Today is fridin, keeping in view the Ayodhya judgement was hoping for a quickfire century. But have been disappointed so far. The batting performance leaves a lot to be desired.

As already posted by Ameet,

Terrorists attack & destroy 15 NATO tankers in interior Sindh

This is big news for the fact that the Taliban presence in interior Sind is now confirmed. This is the first time I have heard of such attacks in interior Sind.
Confirming the attack, District Coordination Officer (DCO) of Shikarpur said “unknown terrorists, in dozens, have attacked the NATO containers carrying oil with rockets. Some 15 to 20 containers were destroyed in the attack and the fire is still blazing and we are trying to put it off.”

He said that the containers were eventually bound for Afghanistan.

“The situation is under our control although there is still exchange of fire was going on between police and some terrorists who have been holed up,” Ahmed said.

Police said that the attack took place in the darkness as the containers were parked at a petrol pump and were filling up for their onward journey to Quetta.

According to media reports, around 50 terrorists took part in the operation.

If this alliance is not diched by the US then it will suffer the same fate as the USSR. Yet it is considerd an alliance that is too crucial to fail.

Truly twisted thinking.

http://dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?pa ... 010_pg7_22
It can be confirmed that al Qaeda and a group based in North Waziristan calling itself “Brigade 313”, which is made up of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and allied extremist group members, including Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and Karachi-based Jandullah, has prepared a plan to attack the 19th Commonwealth Games, which are due to be held in News Delhi from October 3 to October 14, Daily Times has learnt.
Mathematically, there is a growing chance of a military takeover in Pakistan. The only question is will the Paki Army make the move before Obama visits India or after the visit for a coup. If Kiya nahi is really desperate he would do it before the visit. Also, before he takes over, he will make sure that there is an attack in India during "The civilian govt" rule,as they can simply say afterwards,"Sorry, the earlier guy didnt leave his number!" or "Civilian govt incompetence led to the attack" etc.India would be simply firing dossiers to Paki Army afterwards.

CWG games is a real challenge for India. Its highly secured,no doubt, but we should not let any other important areas vulnerable.

Sridhar Sir don't you think it is a bit odd that Talibs are conducting attack against NATO right at a time when TSPA would like to send a message to Unkil? We have seen the same tactics before in 2008-09 as well. I am no longer sure these attacks are done by talibs. ISI/TSPA may be directly involved.

Anyway what is the difference between ISI, TSPA and Taliban?

Nuggets from Urdu Press in TFT
Zia killed by America

Famous ex-ISI officer Brigadier (Retd) Muhammad Yusuf told Jinnah that America had all the capacity to kill General Zia in the Bahawalpur air crash. It had broad connections within Pakistan and could hire anyone to do the job. He did not mention why the Americans killed their two very senior important officials just to get Zia killed in the crash. He did not mention Aslam Beg either.

Sindh has more ‘ghairat’

Reported in daily Jinnah, the province of Sindh was most full of ghairat (honour) because it killed 21 women in one month to save the honour of men. Women were killed by their near relatives in all cases. After death women are not buried in the normal graveyard.

General Zia was great!

Writing in Jang, famous columnist Haroon Rashid stated that General Zia was killed by American imperialism when he refused to toe the line on American policy in Afghanistan. He ruled for 11 years but was a better ruler than Ayub and Yahya. The Americans later pressured President Ghulam Ishaq Khan and dreamed of arresting General Hamid Gul. There were 500,000 people at Zia’s funeral.

Zia inquiry stopped by US and Beg

Quoted in Nawa-e-Waqt, son of General Zia, Ijazul Haq stated that his father’s death remained a mystery and he could not accuse anyone, but inquiry into the Bahawalpur crash was delayed by the US whose team reached Pakistan after 10 months instead of 48 hours. He said the inquiry was blocked by the US and ex-army chief Aslam Beg. He also suspected Mossad and said that when his father ruled, Indians could not dare kill any Muslims in Indian-administered Kashmir. According to Express, he said during Zia’s rule there was no natural calamity as divine punishment.

The Diary of a Social Butterfly in TFT
Just back from Karachi where we’d gone for Kabraji wedding na. Oho baba, Kairas and Aban’s son’s. What do you mean you don’t know them? He’s a hot short lawyer in a hot short firm and she does nature. When I heard she’s into nature and all, I asked her to tell me the names of her products. Which products, she asked. Bhai all those natural, organic type skin creams, anaar ka shampoo and coconuts ki lip gloss. She pretended to look non pulsed and I immediately thought keh vaisay, no matter how sophisty they may look oopar say, under say all these women are same. They’ll die before they tell you the name of their tailor or their face cream. So I complained to Janoo keh look Aban’s not caring shearing type and he looked up at the ceiling and told the ceiling slowly, ‘She does NOT serve behind the till at Body Shop. She’s got a very big job with IUCN. And that’s an organization that’s trying to conserve nature – forests, animals, oceans, that sort of thing.’ How bore!

Anyways, the wedding was elegant, yet on simple side. Janoo tau was in his elements. He doesn’t like big splashy weddings na. Crack. All of Karachi’s nice khandani types were there – Habib Fida Ali, the Mazaris, Ava Cowasjee and Parsi ladies in their beautiful old diamonds and their beautiful old ghararas – they call those satin all over embroidered saris ghararas na. Don’t know why but they do.

Back in Lahore I was immediately chaired up when I saw on TV that a snake had been found in a room in Delhi ka Olympic village. Itna mujhay maza aya na. Serves the Indians right, I said to Janoo, for doing so much of showing off and then having their bridge collapse on top of their heads and everyone in the world laughing at them. Bus! Then tau I don’t know what happened to Janoo. He lost it. Started shouting at me about how I could even have the guts to mention the failings of others when half our country’s drowning and children dying of starvation and our cricket team cheating and rulers thieving. :rotfl: :rotfl: As if it’s all my fault! Between you and me, Janoo needs a holiday. No?

Such Gup from TFT
Big time real estate

Meanwhile, Gill on the Hill has his hands full with his family too, with one of his sons said to be dabbling in big time real estate. Our mole says Junior is in the process of doing a deal with a Pakistani-British developer to invest in London’s upcoming Olympic village.

Mind boggling

And before you start hurling a torrent of abuse at Pakistan’s political class, dear reader, let us inform you that others deserve your ire as much, if not more. The National Lootmaar Cell of our great and glorious khakis buys thousands of vehicles every year – cars, vans, jeeps, you name it. In one instance recently, they asked their suppliers to sell them bearings as well. Each bearing cost Rs 450/ each, with the supplier’s healthy profit built in. The NLC officials asked the supplier to over-invoice the cost of each bearing to Rs 3300/ each. Just add up the vehicles, the bearings and the sums – it is guaranteed to be a mind-boggling exercise.

Hasty retreat

Following Gill on the Hill ’s remarks about NRO beneficiaries and how they’d all be brought to book, Hubby threw a fit. How can you say that, he thundered. I will NOT sacrifice my ministers. I will not have my ranks decimated. We will sink or swim together. And other words to that effect. After which, Gill beat a hasty retreat on the matter. We hear Gill also summoned his family to Isloo and had a frank discussion about their plans in the event of Gill losing his job.

Khaled Ahmed Rants about TSP governance in TFT
Hollowness of ‘governance mantra’: By sheer habit, everyone not in government is ganging up to get rid of the government. Reason? Bad governance, they say. In the past, governments were sent packing by the army on grounds of ‘national security’ or ‘corruption’. A whole procession of political lemmings followed the low-IQ general who destroyed democracy in hopes of shaking down the rich to fill the treasury which he thought democracy had emptied. This time too politicians are readying themselves for their leap off the cliff by sheer habit, led by such immaculate personalities as Imran Khan and Munawwar Hasan. No matter how you look at the aroused judiciary in Islamabad, you end up giving it the dubious role of the army’s bedfellow under Article 190.

Politicians and their minions among TV anchors want governance during the worst flooding in history while the economy is in the oxygen tent of the IMF. Thirty years of terrorism - out of which 20 years were allocated to jihad not so secretly waged by the state – has undermined the institutions and made Pakistan forget governance. Civil servants and judges know they can be beheaded if they don’t help the terrorists; they feel better in the conscience exercising dereliction as an option in place of colluding with the Taliban and Al Qaeda. The Awami National Party (ANP) which saw its leaders slaughtered in Swat as the army stood by and kibitzed was understandably absent from the scene when the flood hit Swat. In Lahore, the fear of the terrorist is so real that it is much better to stay out of trouble through dereliction than risk getting killed. The commissioner relies on the device of blaming India and Israel every time people are suicide-bombed in order to avoid being target-killed by the city’s Islamists who back Al Qaeda’s projected revolution in Pakistan.

Najam Sethi's edit on TSP's Politics
Political brinkmanship

Some hacks had predicted a “thrilling” clash between the Supreme Court and the Zardari government on Monday, September 27, that was supposed to result in the ouster of the government of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani soon thereafter. This was based on Mr Gillani’s repeated avowal in and out of parliament that he would not write to the Swiss government, as demanded by the SC, to reopen the money laundering case against President Asif Zardari on the grounds that he enjoyed presidential immunity while in office. The PM had buttressed his arguments by asking how the president, who is the head of state, supreme commander of the armed forces and an integral part of parliament, could be proceeded against in a foreign country without surrendering the “sovereignty” of Pakistan which is parliament’s foremost duty to protect and defend as laid out in the constitution.

In the event, however, Mr Gilani’s law secretary did not appear in the SC on Monday to present the PM’s aggressive point of view. Instead, the Attorney General politely requested the SC to postpone the matter until the fate of the government’s NRO review petition is settled. Significantly, the SC accepted the AG’s argument, thereby reprieving the PM until the next date of hearing, 13th October, while simultaneously ordering the NAB to investigate and present details of all pending cases relating to Mr Zardari and other PPP stalwarts in other countries like the UK and Spain etc, thereby stressing its determination to unearth and recover all illegal funds stashed away abroad. On the other side, the PM has lamely gone silent on his “Presidential Immunity” viewpoint in order not to provoke the SC but he has also reneged from a commitment to compel all NRO-beneficiaries to resign from their posts in government, in order to close party ranks and protect the pillars of the regime.

Clearly, then, we have some breathing space but no solution to the crisis. Each side seems bent on defending and enlarging its position. Equally clearly, the space for a cool rethink by both sides seems to been have brought about through the courtesy of the army chief, General Ashfaq Kayani, whose discreet council was broadcast on Monday via a picture of him sitting at ease in the presidency with the President and Prime Minister. Conventional wisdom says that the army wants a much better performance from the sitting government rather than any regime change that brings in old and equally discredited faces and makes matters worse.

The government is using guerilla tactics to delay decisions on hurtful matters. So it is blowing hot and cold. It accuses the establishment of witch-hunting the PPP government and making it impotent – the army has already claimed control over foreign policy and wants to dictate economic policy, including defense budgets. And it accuses the judiciary of encroaching on space reserved for the executive and parliament. At the same time, however, the government has placated General Kayani by giving him an unprecedented three year extension as army chief and sanctioned an immediate 25% increase in a supplementary defense allocation for 2010-11 to fight the war on terror. It has also backed down and refrained from resisting several of the SC’s controversial judgments and orders that affect it adversely.

Therefore we may expect the government to try and fortify itself in the run-up to the next D-Day, October 13th, with better legal advice and some deft moves to thwart the SC. It may either appoint a new NAB chairman who is favourably disposed towards it or delay the appointment by putting the burden on the opposition with which consultation is mandatory. The government may also request the SC to defer the matter of the NRO to parliament for review and obtain a majority resolution in its favour, a course of action that would make its current NRO review appeal that much stronger and delay matters further. If and when this fails, the government could plead Presidential Immunity and Presidential Sovereignty, additional delaying tactics. In the final analysis, it might even agree to write a letter to the Swiss authorities that is worded in such a way as to avoid any bartering of parliamentary or presidential sovereignty and immunity and without enabling any quick reopening of the case in Geneva. We know that the Swiss judge who investigated the money laundering case from 2003-2006 and the Swiss Attorney General who closed the file in 2008 are not on the same page regarding Mr Zardari’s culpability and the constitutionality of closing the file.

Therefore the game for the PPP regime is far from over. At the heart of the matter are the core contradictions among the key players: the army doesn’t want the PPP regime to be replaced by a PMLN regime headed by Nawaz Sharif; the SC doesn’t want any elected regime to lord over it while it is making a revolutionary quest for popular legitimacy beyond the scope defined by the constitution and parliament; and the army is shy of a direct intervention in which the mainstream parties and the popular SC are arrayed against it. This dynamic complexity is creating space for the PPP’s slippery maneuverings on the brink of the cliff.

Rational and democratic. Maybe even entirely pragmatic. This is how, I believe, one can and should see the Allahabad High Court’s ruling on the long-running Ayodhya religious dispute on Thursday.

You're right saip ji.

Actually Sheikh Mujibar Rehman won the Pakistani elections in 1970. He won 160 from 300 seats in the National Assembly.

So in fact Bangladesh is the true inheritor of pre-1971 Pakistani State. That means any Plebiscite in J&K can have only India and Bangladesh as the two choices.

When are we having the plebiscite by the way?

I like this part

"No Pakistani government or military leadership can survive" if it's seen as a pushover for America, cautioned the ISI official.
It has not been a pushover to date? Starting with Amritraj's demands? But I have listened to this Ignatius dude; he seems to be a typical Pentagon/CIA mouthpiece because he sings the same line about TSP's facing a so called "threat" from India.

News update :Former Pakistan military ruler Pervez Musharraf has launched his new political party, the All Pakistan Muslim League, in London.

Mr Musharraf said Pakistanis felt "despondency and hopelessness" and he vowed a "jihad against poverty, hunger, illiteracy and backwardness".

He earlier told the BBC the government in Pakistan was dysfunctional and the economy and the country were failing.

Not to worry saar.

mushy was the one who taught the pakis how to deal with "returning politicians" a la the daughter of the yeast when she wanted to rise.

mushy is headed for a quick rendezvous with a rusty lamp post and a prime hempen necktie in the event of his unfortunate return to base.

The joker is just trying to convert his black money to white by starting a political party.

It is impossible to believe that Mushy is planning to get back to pureland "by 2013 elections" without a nod and a wink from the PA. So, the question of his meeting his 72, whenever he land in Pindi, seems far-fetched to me. It is being orchestrated by the PA as they would like to have some "democratically-elected" gormint in Slumbad. Most likely PA is not keen to take over. If a coup was indeed in the works, I would not hear about it on TV. It will just happen.
Reminds me of all the hype of "six-months-to-go-for-pureland" in April-May 2009. Some toys/gifts/concessions are being negotiated in the background. Let us not forget that NATO supply convoys are getting hit these days. All pressure being applied onlee.

The Pakistani military says it is investigating a video purporting to show a firing squad of uniformed soldiers shooting dead young men who were blindfolded and bound.

Its authenticity cannot be verified. It is unclear when or where it was filmed.

Human rights groups say they have previously documented extra-judicial killings by Pakistani troops but cannot vouch for the video.

Pakistani military officials have dismissed it as fabricated.

"No Pakistani Army soldier or officer has been involved in activity of this sort," army spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas told the BBC.
Sounds so apologetic and disbelieving, compared to their firm Chatisinghpura "Injuns did it" tones. If anyone had any doubts on BBC's pak infested "South Asian" desk....

Mr Musharraf said Pakistanis felt "despondency and hopelessness" and he vowed a "jihad against poverty, hunger, illiteracy and backwardness".

He earlier told the BBC the government in Pakistan was dysfunctional and the economy and the country were failing.
Pakistan needs more Islam and what better than a new party with "Muslim" in it, 400% secular like the Al Quaid e Azam. It is quite funny how almost everything to do with the land of pure cretins has something or the other to do with Londonistan. It seems that over time all of Pawkistan's future PMs have been waiting in a queue in London for the current PM to be popped off so that they can go and claim their place in the jihadi musical chair.
