Re: Islamism & Islamophobia Abroad - News & Analysis (9-8-20
Islam, a religion of peace at war with itself Yes, Islam is a religion of peace for the people who take that side of the argument. What a rotten thing for them that there are people with bombs and guns, and a martyr’s eagerness to use them, on the other. The nature of Islam, and especially of its p...

Re: Islamism & Islamophobia Abroad - News & Analysis
As kids, I remember hearing the phrase "ulta saabi" which means "reverse muslim". Muslims did everything the other way from the norm. This is the reason. OT: the 'ulta' IIRR came from the fact that Urdu/Persian/Arabic was written right-to-left, so "ulta" w.r.t Indic sc...

Re: Out-of-India - From Theory to Truth
RajeshA ji,
Based on my readings, people have been ascribing this genetic contribution to 1. "Dravidians from S. India" 2. "Veddoids from India" 3. Links via Indonesia. 4. etc, etc.
So it seems to be all terribly speculative based on each person's current pet theory

Re: Out-of-India - From Theory to Truth
The genetic data on Australian Aboriginals came from Northern Territory of Australia . So it is the Aborigines of Northern Australia that are related to "Dravidian speakers from Southern Indian". Does it say in that paper that the the genetic linkage is via "Dravidian speakers from S...

To make matters more interesting ( from http://imgpublic.mci-group.com/ie/PCO/AllAbstracts_FINAL.pdf:) As a FYI, from what I've read, this study used a analysis tool whose accuracy for age estimations is not widely accepted. P-2033 Estimating a date of mixture of ancestral South Asian populations Pr...

Re: Discussion on Indian Epics, Texts, Treatises & Kathas
A certain genetic type for example is shared by some Keralites and west-coast Italians of long European genetic ancestry. Who went where? Especially when you do not find any traces in between? Does it mean that Italians came and settled India from a stock that is genetically separated by at least 2...

Interesting possibilities for sure. Wonder how some of this http://www.sepiamutiny.com/sepia/archives/006503.html will fit with the model being proposed.

Re: Distorted history- Causes, consequences, remedies
If Namboodri's really "colonize" and "Sanskritize" Kerala, two serious questions. (1) How could they colonize without resistance from "natives"? If there was resistance, how did the Namboodris manage to overcome such resistance - militarily/by coercion? (2) why did the...

Re: Distorted history- Causes, consequences, remedies
Supposedly the Nambhodhiris ( & maybe Nair groups ??) did 'colonize' Kerala and hence the sanskritization of 'Old Tamil'. The degree of Sanskrit in spoken Malayalam actually varies with who ( which group) is speaking it. In fact there is no clear evidence to say that Namboothiris came from some...

Same case for Telugu. As high as 60% words are from Sanskrit. Kerala was never colonized by anybody from north India, and it is full of Sanskrit words. I never understood why Malayalam was classified in a different language family. But it will make sense when you take into consideration the politic...

Any chance we can keep this thread accessible only to logged in members? Right now its public and INMVHO there is really no need to allow any passer-by an inside look into this very internal affair.
