Re: Personal Health, Nutrition and Fitness Thread
Martenji, don't be harsh on self. Try to remember key non-smoking moments; times when the lungs feel better, or when eyes feel cooler, or you feel all the energy. The more you register these memories, the more easily they will help you move away from "hopefully" to "certainly". n...

What signals are there of chinese devaluation, in the near term?
I can find this statement, which appears to say that they don't expect it to appreciate, that is the signal, but they just let it float?

Re: Managing Pakistan's failure
The weaning away list is depressing at how weak a leverage it appears to be. Pak is not going anywhere anytime soon; it has at least three benefactors to hold it up. And despite all its machinations, they will hold it up because of how valuable it remains to them. All the righteous protestations wil...

But even then, the roads can't grow as the square even as area does. I watch the people give up drivin, get on commuter trains, then the commuter trains get late, and everybody's sayin, f*ck this, I am going to north carolina or idaho or whatever, many do. Meanwhile, downtown, 1Br barsati, $1M now. ...

I am stunned at how the property prices are taking off at home. Three years ago, 0.70L/sq. yard, now, 1.25L/sq. y. The punch line here -- we must think bubble ("big bumboo time a'comin") when it's boomin? I mean, when we say something keeps "appreciating" and note that mass is co...

Consider, for e.g., IIIT Delhi (was that two or three I's?), anyway follow this link: http://www.iiitd.ac.in/people.php Not bad for faculty preparation, when compared to "rest of world" in CS I'd say. (but there may be huge variance, I don't know yet). That said, the whole CS field itself,...

Go with your calling immediately, post-haste, if you have found it. Plan A and plan B type of analysis will not get you to make the change you seek to make, and you will find many opportunities for "safe exit" if you feel you won't make it along your committed path. What's tougher, harder,...

Ha, thanks for that enqyoob! My polished and clean Grease Car is getting many converts at different social levels! What would be sustainable growth of economy, and wouldn't that be dependent on the state of the prosperity, e.g. "efficiency mode" for the prosperous, and "afterburner mode" for those not? Does the "freemarket" naturally lead to this dynamic -- sorry if basic question, ...

Re: Indo-UK: News & Discussion
Where education is concerned the undergraduates who come out of germany, e.g. karlsruhe, or many through france, seem to be really well prepared. As things move into the research realm, US/UK seem to be a bit more together. But there is nothing special or great about any of these "pedagogies&qu...

Re: Managing Pakistan's failure
The control that the US can assert over pak army is possibly useful in certain activity -- the eye-ball to eye-ball type, or kargil. But how is this going to be useful in preventing terror in India, or reducing it? It hasn't so far for all the control the US seems to have over it (not even headley r...

Leaving is: a) An economical option for the US in the short run. b) A political solution for Obama. c) A way to maintain geopolitical status quo via a well-fed TSPA. d) A step in better funded TSPA. e) A sure way to return the Taliban to Af f) A sure way to ramp terror in India. g) A way to further ...

Re: Managing Pakistan's failure
If US stops propping TSPA by leaving entirely, it has to contend with a "what happens to nukes" as someone said here. In that "rapid collapse" scenario, it can easily concede a loss of region to China, if latter decides to prop TSPA at ~$1B a year in the world community's interes...

Yeah, I agree. Why not say bike from kargil to kanyakumari instead, to find out "what you got"? Or, "swim the english channel" or, climb everest? far more challenging getting in and sticking with those things than getting out, unlike smoking. But, just listen to your instincts ca...

Re: Managing Pakistan's failure
Pak's future is bright if the US leaves. So, will it get out of AF? They have reason to stay; exert geopolitical influence. They have reasons to leave too; there is “no military solution,” mildly put, and the economy is in tatters, etc. The geopolitical agenda continues in AFPAK, esp. if they go “un...
