Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

I am not providing dodgy comparisons Karan. How do u say F-16 is not good enough when we have problems when US supplies the Block 52 to Pakistan. Among all the five aircrafts, the only ones that had seen actual combat are American fighters. Rest all are yet to see an actual fight. What you say anywa...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

The problem is that everyone thinks that he/she has the "correct" understanding about MMRCA and others have flawed understanding. Over the long period, MMRCA had changed a lot and that is why single engine aircrafts competed with heavier twin engine ones! IAF has selected Rafale and they h...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

I know that...it was just to point to working with Russians instead of the Americans...and despite all of this, we got a MiG++ ! It is not that we didn't approach Russians, we did but they wanted us to shelve LCA and instead offered us license manufacture (or was it co-development, cant remember) o...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

In my opinion, we were right in detonating a nuclear device, from India's point of view and Americans were right in sanctions from their point of view. Did they only sanction India and not Pakistan, I dont think so. It is very clear that Americans will always work towards American interests and will...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

On the Mirage 2000 issue, here is the excerpt from Wikipedia " In 1999 when the Kargil conflict broke out, the Mirage 2000 performed remarkably well during the whole conflict in the high Himalayas, even though the Mirages supplied to India had limited air interdiction capability and had to be h...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

And for those who have been saying that the extended capabilities of SH were to be funded by the buyer, are we not funding the development of T-50? When I said why not AL31FP and not GE414, I did not literally mean the engines per se but why not a defence collaboration with Russians than the Americ...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

Eklavya, I am not going to stoop down to your levels and provide a response to your personal comments. So, what technology did India ask for in the Mirage 2000 that was denied? You are a time waster; at least have the decency to admit it. If you read the archives, Soviet Union was neutral in the 19...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

Is it not true that the Mirage 2000 supplied to India was a stripped-down version? Some critical technologies were removed and then supplied to India? What did India ask for that was denied? If you are going to make allegations, back them up, or you will be taken for a time waster. Also, in the 196...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

Why are we still going with GE-414 engine when we have AL-31FP available? Because it would no longer be the L CA It is massively bigger and heavier, more in the F110 class. I know that...it was just to point to working with Russians instead of the Americans...and despite all of this, we got a MiG++ !

^^^ Isn't it true that US confiscated everything? and sent Indian scientists home empty handed? if that is true, then what you mean by "very fact that our LCA was designed with US support" ? US doesn't care about India, in 1962, they wanted to nuke China and the same US wanted to nuke us ...

There is something that I have always wondered. And I am not sure if it is OT...but in the 1962 war against China, USA was prepared to defend India, even if it required nuclear weapons. Here is an except from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sino-Indian_War) "The Kennedy administration w...

If F-16 are phat phat, then why are we worried. Even though F-16 are old, and dont meet our requirements, they still can help TSP drop nukes on us, they still are potent machines. I am a bit surprised, but pardon my ignorance. We have been gung-ho about TOT, but our indigenous plane LCA is years behind schedule. Re: Possible Indian Military Scenarios - XII

Surrender of China will not be a reality. And asking them to move out of Tibet is a sure no-no. The cause of Tibet was lost in 1950-51 when their army lost to the Chinese and the world sat quietly twiddling its thumbs. Either we should have stood up for Tibet in 1951 and fought off the Chinese army ...

Re: Raffy wins - Go Katrina!

Why not F-16 Block 60 which was offered. Around 40-60 of them could be used to fill in the numbers. What we should realize is that no country will be willing to part with technology for which they have invested billions of dollars, just because we are ready to pay for it. And with the offsets, we ar...

Re: Possible Indian Military Scenarios - XII

NFU looks always good on paper. I doubt if in such a situation, the GOI will take a decision to counter strike or even use Nuclear weapons. The reason why this is easy for China and not for India is because the CPC does not have to face the electorate to be elected. There are no elections where gene...

Why not buy 40-60 F-16IN from US...F-16, till today, is one of the most capable and battle hardened fighter...and Lockheed Martin will be eager to sell it to India...and preferably should come through the FMS route. TOT is just a red herring. Had TOT been successful, we would not be struggling with ...

Why cant the DRDO/IAF/ADA decide on the engine now...Kaveri surely is under powered as it was not considered for LCA...am not too sure if twin Kaveris will be good enough for the AMCA... Boss, no offence but stop peddling the Super Hornet here now. I'm not peddling the SH, I'm pointing out the flaw in the argument that was presented. If IMMEDIATE availability was so important, they would have gone for the SH. If they're willing to wait a little for EF/Rafale, why not wait a little ...

Re: MRCA News and Discussion - March 2011

I some how feel that it will be a balance of price and meeting the requirements. While Rafale and EF look to be good aircrafts, they come with a price. MMRCA is meant to fill in the gaps in large numbers. And expensive aircrafts cannot be bought in very large numbers. A Gripen or F-16, as I believe,...
