Re: INS Arihant (ATV) News and Discussion -2
Agreed. Arihant is a great achievement. And we should be rather thankful to the Russians for their assitance inspite of wht I've felt as our "strategic ignoring" of Russia... Was reading an article last week that the Armed forces of India have done about 50 military exercises with USA in t...

[qoute]Also Hindusthan Shipyard is now wholly MODs and not having any pesky civilian ship construction crew. [/qoute] Don't really agree with this statement. If someone thinks that a "military crew" makes a ship, its simply not so. Military shipyards also employ them as 'civilians'. (eg. :...

Re: J&K News and Discussion-2011
Pakistan tries to use the Islamic identity to woo kashmir, and lay claim on it. They're good in portraying the issue like two sides of a coin: the islamic issue as a weapon to build resonance inside Pakistan, and peace&demilitarization and poverty alleviation to appeal to the west, and "hig...

Re: Indian Navy and International Anti-Piracy Ops
These events show a glaring weakness of patrolling in seas that ought to be in our sphere of influence if we wish to become a true blue water force. Our force levels are too low and the blanket for anti-piracy operations is too spread out and too thin. Pirates have been active even in what we consid...

^^^^ paki alert, bad mouthing the Indian armed forces. If the Kashmiri muslims dont want the armed forces there, why dont they give up on violence and start acting like citizens of India. The soliders in the state are there to eliminate terrorism and not to do jee janab and kowtow to the islamic sc...

-1 I believe you harbor a delusional picture of Pakistani liberals - a picture that they present and want to portray. I also believe that you have forgotten or you are unaware of how these same Pakistani liberals kept mum and kept sipping their whiskies when Hindus and Sikhs were hounded out of Pak...

Re: J&K News and Discussion-2011
^ Wasn't that the agenda from Day-1 ? What beast is 'Kashmiriyat' I wonder. This was always another word for Nizam-e-Mustafa where only the 'pious' Muslims would be allowed to flourish and piousness in Islamic society directly flows from the barrel of the gun. Kashmir has been an Islamist movement;...

Re: INS Arihant (ATV) News and Discussion -2
I have a noob question: If only say 20% of the thermal energy is converted to electrical energy what happens to the rest? Now in a land based reactor most of this unconverted energy would be let off as steam but I suppose this is not possible or ideal in a sub. You'd expect some awesome heat exchan...

INS Arihant is presently berthed under a shed at the Ship Building Centre (SBC) near the Naval Dockyard in Vishakhapatnam and will undergo all the standard harbour and sea trials common to all nuclear submarines. The crew has been trained at the Kalpakkam training nuclear reactor and in Russia, and...

India should follow a foreign policy with its pillars on the following points: (1) Open and tacit support to the liberals of Pakistan, whose views could match with the larger Indian society. Help liberal / secular / socialist institutions in Pakistan - the present liberal class is a class of scotch ...

Re: Libya No Fly Zone: Political and strategic aspects
We're diverting off topic it seems. However, it's quite clear that our fence-sitting mentality has made us lose out on an opportunity to show our capability for decision making in the world arena. India's foreign policy is too "goody-goody" to make any real change. We're atmost,.. irreleva...

Cochin's beginning
There seems to be a lot of action in line for the southwestern coast. Once the handling charges of ICTT Cochin become competitive, its going to get a lot of international traffic for sure. India needs to leverage its economic strengths into strategic advantage, which India often fails to do. India c...
