Re: Indian History Discussions - III
From C. Alexander article in Sulekha posted above: My reading of the history of early Christianity leads me to believe that the Western churches' obsession for converting others to Christianity is based more on their historical tradition of using proselytization as an instrument of statecraft for th...

Re: Histories of Cities in India
Sridhar, from my primitive cryptic clues experience, the answer would be Surat. Doubt me not is sure ->sure + hat - he(thee) = surat.

Sridhar,
You need to give the number of letters in bracket. Also need to tell if the clue is built on English language only.
Sure?

HH:
TIA
My apologies for a little digression, but HH (and Kaushal too), why do you refer to marAthAs as maharattas? I thought 'maharatta' was used by mughals to describe the great marAthAs because they could not pronounce it?Finally they were reurbanized under the maharatta revival
TIA

Kolkata looks like Park Street or Burra Bazaar (I know, my Bong friends will groan at equating the two ) - more likely Park Street.

Kaushal, AFAIR, it was late Shri. Chandrashekhar who commented thus on PVNR's (lack of) decision-making regarding the Babri issue. He is the one who reputedly coined the famous indian saying '(making) no decision is a decision too'. definitely deserves a mention in the pantheon of Indian Chanakyas

Re: Why has it become so cool to hate India
There was a very nice scene in 'Agnipath' where Mithun Chakravarty plays 'Krishnan Ayyar, Yem Ye' and defends his lungi dress and even does a number in it. At least Mumbai has come a long way in accepting white 'veshtis' - we Mumbaikars, though, prefer the checks on our lungis while the Punjoos seem...

Re: Why has it become so cool to hate India
In the meanwhile, let me just say that hating parivar/BJP is not hating India. That is precisely my point RSji. I don't care if every commie/marxist/'Roy'alist shouts from rooftop anti-BJP/Parivar slogans. Spend serious dollars/Rupees and buy anti-BJP rallies whatever. But these worthies attack Ind...

Re: Why has it become so cool to hate India
Have yourself more informed on the subject. The number of India haters has only reduced in all these years and not increased. A very big difference now is that awareness level of these things has increased now so it looks the other way around. Nope Raj Singhji. When BJP was not in power, the India-...

Re: Why has it become so cool to hate India
There is a sub-question here. WHEN did it become so COOL to hate India? I guess since BJP took over the reigns of the state and did not collapse as was generally expected. You will notice that almost the entire Hate India brigade and their tirades are aimed at BJP or some other Parivar offshoots (ID...

Re: Agni test of 09 January 2003
I think maintaining a public NFU is a good policy but the real policy should be FU I think the withdrawal from NFU is a diplomatic statement to various players (uncles, poodles, TSp, PRC etc.) that we are upping the ante in the game. Having a hidden FU policy does not help us much because the world...

Re: Pakistani plot to explode dirty nuke foiled
I think this incident will not affect the US Govt stance vis-a-vis TSP in any way. Is this the first time a TSPian or TSP trained operative has been found engaged in terrorist activities in US ? It won't be the last time either. The whole of America knows that most of the 9/11 attackers were Saudi -...
