Grave? these folks have so much money that they can live without moving their butt for the rest of their life. So can their offspring. He probably did not think that the amount of "work" the IPL campaign would require was not worth $200K (in case he got only that much, which was likely). He wouldn't do it for less than 400K is what that says. He would rather sit home and eat popcorn and watch it on a large screen TV. Or shop in premium "shoppes" in London or France instead.krishnan wrote:Talk about digging your own grave

I don't know if it came out in the inglish papers but he had made it clear beforehand he was not going to play for KKR this time, come what may. he also had a coaching proposal from them which he refused.

KKR to find a role for Ganguly: Shah Rukh Khan

http://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/a ... 077759.ece"I would love it, I would love Sourav to be an integral part. You don't have a team in Kolkata without him. So, I will speak to Dada when I get back," Shah Rukh said.
The fans of Ganguly yesterday burnt Khan's effigies in Kolkata protesting his exclusion from the team.
“No Dada, no KKR. Shah Rukh Khan is responsible for all this. We will boycott all KKR matches,” said a group in Maidan burning the Bollywood heartthrob’s poster.
http://www.sportskeeda.com/2011/01/10/s ... o-ganguly/
His case was unique as no IPL team placed a bid for him during the auction and the re-auction even after his performances in last seasons of IPL. While the ‘prince of Kolkata’ was the highest run-getter for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 1 and 2, he was also the 4th highest scorer in IPL 3 with 493 runs with an average of around 37. Not just that, his catching and fielding in last season were clear indication of the effort he had put to perform better to win IPL for KKR. (His catch was nominated for best IPL catch last season in IPL awards). Even an extreme Ganguly baiter wouldn’t have expected no teams picking Sourav in their teams. The non-inclusion was bound to have shaken ground among the cricket lovers.
Shouts of empty eden garden during IPL and Anti-Sharukh sentiments were prominent among fans. The message was loud, you can’t insult the son of the land in such a humiliating way. The team KKR may have to face bitter situations ahead as many fear of depletion in its fan base. In fact, a survey by Hindustan Times has revealed that at least 54% of Kolkata fans may not support KKR in the next season.

Netizens React to KKR Dropping Ganguly dated 2nd dec 2010Rahul M wrote:I don't know if it came out in the inglish papers but he had made it clear beforehand he was not going to play for KKR this time, come what may. he also had a coaching proposal from them which he refused.
An unconfirmed news report about the Kolkata based IPL team Kolkata KnightRiders(KKR) not retaining ex-Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly for the 4th season of the IPL has caused unrest among his fans. Sourav Ganguly, one of the legends of the game, who has a large fan base has already indicated that he is open for playing for any IPL team in case KKR doesn’t retain him
Among all KKR players he has been the best (or one of the best) in all IPL editions. As per reports, KKR is planning to let Sourav go to auction pool again and pick him up from the auction with a lower price ‘if there is any unrest among the fans’.
SRK is sure a paqi. If performance is anything to go by, dada should be in KKR.
SRK deserves all the brickbats from kolkattans. I sympathise with kolkattans.
No dada no KKR no SRK

Re: The Cricket Thread
Looks like the fight for 'uncapped' players has started already. Manish Pandey, wanting to play for Sahara Pune Warriors, is in the center of a controversy. More here in TOIlet article.
Then there is this news that Jr. Mallya landing in Baroda to "watch" Ranji finals. Other teams got the wind and there is a mad scramble to get to Baroda. It doesn't help that the rules relating to uncapped players, apparently, are very vague.

Why to blame KKR only if nobody else wanted SG in their team.

The only thing India has to watch for against SA is not getting hurt. If our batsmen are hurt, it would be problematic for them for the world cup. Our guns should also consider injuring them as an eye for an eye approach.
It is important to use our Bench strength for these ODIs against SA, and keeping and rotating the ones we need to release for the world cup.

btw, there were rumours that dada's career is being ended by vested interests in the BCCI due to some covert mijjile launches in collaboration with senior log ki betis
to be fair, it does look like first India role and then KKR role have been ignominiously ended
jadeja said on ndtv again that dada has been the most successful Indian captain ever... this is no way to respect our warriors

Re: The Cricket Thread
The latter. Soccer was much more popular among the black crowd, whereas rugby and cricket were traditionally seen as white sports (rugby = Afrikaner domination, cricket = Anglo & Afrikaner domination). For a long time, South African blacks used to cheer for the opposing team in both rugby and cricket for this reason. Blacks only started to take interest in rugby when Nelson Mandela revealed that he used to follow the Springboks from prison and wore the #6 shirt of the afrikaner captain of the SA team during the world cup. When SA won the world championship that year, the captain of the team dedicated it to the 40 million citizens of the country.krishnan wrote:Just a lone black in SA team. i have seen white south africans break down in tears recalling their emotions when mandela stepped out in the boks shirt... i think it was a mixture of a collective guilt trip for apartheid and relief that the black people were not going to slaughter them all
the significance of that moment in south africa was immense... but many more miles to go yet

						Re: The Cricket Thread
the ranji trophy final is over and rajasthan are champions for the first time, beating baroda. a fairytale story if there ever was one, coming from plate group with 3 players rejected from their respective state sides, aakash chopra, kanitkar and parida, you would have been laughed at if you predicted this at the start of the season. a win outside the traditional winners bodes well for Indian cricket. if this was US we would have seen a hollywood movie on this win in a few years.
