The Cricket World Cup Thread
Re: The Cricket Thread
Yindia will win onlee.

Re: The Cricket Thread
We'll get the pitches we want when it comes to World Cup time so this SA odi series won't have a huge impact on WC preperations - still a bit sad to see players who play like demi-Gods in the sub continent (Raina, Kohli, Dhoni etc) struggle so much on bouncy, seaming tracks.

Sourav Ganguly, one of the legends of the game, who has a large fan base has already indicated that he is open for playing for any IPL team in case KKR doesn’t retain himAmong all KKR players he has been the best (or one of the best) in all IPL editions. As per reports, KKR is planning to let Sourav go to auction pool again and pick him up from the auction with a lower price ‘if there is any unrest among the fans’.
SRK is sure a paqi. If performance is anything to go by, dada should be in KKR.
SRK deserves all the brickbats from kolkattans. I sympathise with kolkattans.
No dada no KKR no SRK![]()
Which begs the question, why didn't any other side pick him up then. Even with a base price of 400k he wasn't expensive and all the franchises did not even spend 100% of their allocated money. Moreover he's still a better player (in the shorter format) than say Laxman (who went for 400k) and Dravid (500k)
Can't pin all the blame on our paki loving friend SRK.

Guys:
What a brilliant win. Man, oh man, I love it when I see us SDREs maintain their cool under pressure. And MS was just that, cool, calm, and leading from the front.
Of course, as any game this close, luck plays a key role. And lad luck was on our side

Munna bhai has also learned Inglis by the looks of it. Very happy to see a confident team. The Prince was genuinely happy to have taken the catch even though he nearly missed that crucial run-out. What a match this turned out to be! SDREs are getting pretty good all over!

whoa! munna man of the match! what a turn out. awesome win.

Munna made his debut in 2004-5 and Yuvraj in 2000, who exactly is a youngistani here?
We won by fluke and munna is a useless bowler, it was the pressure that got to the equally incompetent Saffa Youngistanis Parnell and Tsostowhatevah

If Pretty and Shetty can do it, even poor Priyanka should. But she needs a rich beau before she can do that.
Re: The Cricket Thread
A slight niggle is sending them back home, no chances being taken as world cup is near. BTW india has won the last 5 out of 6 matches in the ground

Re: The Cricket Thread
The decision to bat first is always good against SA in any condition, put up a paltry
50 runs, take few early wikits and watch SA contrive to snatch defeat from victory 9.99 times out of 10.
except the ball with which got Amla (pitching outside off bouncing chest height and moving onto middle)
all balls were just good, nothing ferocious or terrifying.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Niran, which balls were really "ferocious and terrifying" from the south africans and cost us wickets? They too bowled just good. More often than not, we seemed too weak to clear the 30 yard circle
Re: The Cricket Thread
Oh really? How come the not-so-ordinary bowlers like zaheer failed to break through in the beginning and had to make way for the God like Nehra? And that 'Cadbury's Nutties' headed Tsotsobe is goaded as if he's some 101st tirthankar of jesus christ for running and swinging his arm over with no perceivable thought or strategy.Mahendra wrote:We won by fluke and munna is a useless bowler, it was the pressure that got to the equally incompetent Saffa Youngistanis Parnell and Tsostowhatevah

That must NZ's way of getting back at us for the 5-0 whitewash we rubbed on them. Just pray Kirsten stays on a lot longer, at least a couple of years after the big 3 retire.pgbhat wrote:Stephen Fleming tipped as next India cricket coach

Poms again "thoking" Kangaroos' bowling
Re: The Cricket Thread
So only a handful of odis left now until the World Cup, what is your preferred first eleven (fitness permitting).
I'd go with:
God
Sehwag
Gambhir
Kohli
Yuvraj
Raina
Dhoni
Harbhajan
Zaheer
Kumar
Nehra/Munaf/Ishant
I suppose there is an argument for Yousuf's inclusion in which case I'd swap him for Raina or Yuvraj.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Yusuf is not bowling well, Raina is a better bowler at present. Yusuf is arguably the harder hitter but Raina has bulked up and no slouch either....on indian pitches his weakness against short bowling should not be too much of an issue. and Raina is the better fielder.
I would actually drop Yuvraj and pick rohit sharma. atleast rohit has to be in team incase yuvraj doesnt deliver in 1st couple of matches. Gambhir/Sehwag one could be dropped in matches where both Yuvraj and Sharma get to play. sehwag has not been in good form lately in any form of cricket.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Terrific show by the bowlers: Dhoni
very smart thinking. could have gone either way. But hats off to him for marshalling his team.!! fortune favors the brave.
With South Africa needing 12 runs to win from 60 deliveries with two wickets in hand, Dhoni gave the ball to part-time spinner Suresh Raina and the Indian skipper said it was a chance he took which could have backfired.
"It was an important decision. I thought that if a spinner bowls he may hit the pads and get one batsman out. Normally, he (Raina) bowls well to left handers. Sometime you have to take chance like this," Dhoni said.

konphuses batters with his slow and very slow bowling with run up of phast bowler onlee. smart khiladiI think Munaf's spell was brilliant. He bowls straight and varies his pace well.

Brilliant talk. rub it in. Important psycho talk. Love MSD interviews like dada.He said the narrow loss in the second ODI will continue to haunt South Africa, who are desperate to shed their "chokers" tag in world cricket.
"Playing under pressure is totally different scenario. If South Africa lose matches like this they have to face the criticism of being called chokers. That's one thing which will haunt them," Dhoni said.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Which I consider as a good thing because a player of his calibre cannot be kept quiet for long. And WC is exactly where we want him to come out all guns blazing. (Go Veeru.. Go)Singha wrote:Sehwag has not been in good form lately in any form of cricket.
Re: The Cricket Thread
On coach issue: Stephen Fleming and Dhoni enjoy a good relationship as part of the CSK set up and is considered tactically sound. However, as a coach the challenge is to get the best out of the players which Kirsten seems to have succeeded. Bowling seems to be a worry and Eric Simon's does not seem to have done anything dramatic.
Media and the cricket lovers seem to bracket all youngsters to be struggling on bouncy pitches. Kohli does seem to be at ease playing the so called *ruthless * bowling and Pujara also showed a lot of promise. Vijay, Raina, Yusuf don't like the bounce. Lot of discrepancies have seeped into Rohit's technique, which is a pity whilst Rahane and Dhawan continues to get the cold shoulder from the selectors.

Oh Really?
Aren't the Youngistanis lining up to replace the big three who are supposedly denying them a chance to play and shine on the big stage? Do they really need the blessings of a furrin guy for 2 years before they can be trusted?
Aren't the new god like Undakat, Ravindra Jadeja and others supposed to just walk into the team and help maintain our no 1 ranking after the seniors are forced out by the obviously more capable Youngistanis?
Gary Kirsten would do well to go back to his home country and coach the uber strategist and thinking bowler, the new Wasim Akram.. Tsotso-mullah. The new Indian team post retirement of big 3 and post forcing out of the scheming seniors doesn't really require a coach. If they do need one, I'm sure Mr Chappal -e Hawaii Greg will be too happy to accept
Re: The Cricket Thread
kohli picks himself I think. he is probably the most successful TI ODI batsman in recent days.
I'll pick ashwin over other spinners, save bhajji. ojha being second choice. but then our part timers can do a decent job as well.
p.s. the chahar kid bowled well in the finals and ended the tournament with an avg of 21. would be interesting to see how he turns up.
