Rehman Malik says “third” power behind Karachi unrest
Three powers? Who are the first two? Or did he mean to say "(Army + Allah + (screwed up) Awaam)^3?Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday said a “third” power behind the ongoing violence in Karachi, television reports said.

Naeem Ahmed - Son of Pakistan
New York: Prosecutors have charged a 41-year-old man with stalking Caroline Kennedy's daughter for two years, showering her with flowers, balloons and intimate messages referring to himself as her "hubby”.
Naeem Ahmed sent more than 40 messages to Tatiana Schlossberg and continued even after a warning from the Kennedy family's security firm, according to court documents first reported on by the Daily News of New York.
"I know your shape, your sound, your warmth, and your taste," said the inscription on one e-card. Ahmed signed it, "Wishing you a lovely weekend, Hunny Bunny. Sincerely, Yours Hubby, Naeem."
Ahmed's lawyer, Gerald Hertz, said the messages were harmless. A judge has ordered a mental evaluation of Ahmed, who has been in a New York jail since his arrest December 06 on misdemeanour harassment and stalking charges.
"He never hurt anybody; he never made threats against anybody," Hertz said.
Ahmed, of New York, was unemployed and was studying for a taxi driver's license, Hertz said. He was unsure what kind of work Ahmed did previously.
The messages began in October 2008, according to a New York court complaint based on information provided by John Viggiano, the president of Dignitary Protection and Investigative Services, the family's bodyguard firm. Schlossberg, a Yale University student, was 18 at the time.
In May 2009, Ahmed sent a birthday flower arrangement to Schlossberg and a Mother's Day arrangement to Caroline Kennedy. In an e-mail to Kennedy, Ahmed warned her not to talk to anyone about the gifts.
"We can talk and solve all family matters by ourselves," the message said, according to court documents.
In November 2009, Ahmed tried to visit Schlossberg at her New York City home. Soon afterward, Viggiano met with Ahmed and asked him to leave the family alone.
But three months later, the e-mails resumed. Ahmed sent Schlossberg a Valentine's Day e-card that read, "Do I love you? Yes I do. Do you?"
On November 26, he sent an e-card to Schlossberg set to piano music, along with a montage of photos of bare skin, champagne glasses and a bed strewn with rose petals, according to the complaint. The last e-card, sent November 26, showed a boat, fish and bubbles and was addressed to Kennedy and her husband, Edwin Schlossberg.
"Dearest Mr & Mrs Schlossberg and Family! Have a beautiful weekend. Sincerely, Naeem," the card said.
Hertz said his client admired the Kennedy family but took his admiration too far.
Caroline Kennedy, the only surviving child of former president John F Kennedy, is a lawyer and the former chief fundraiser for the New York City schools. In 2008 she announced she was interested in filling the US Senate seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton after President Barack Obama named Clinton secretary of state. Kennedy withdrew from consideration after little more than a month.
The Kennedy family office said no one was available on Friday to field inquiries about the Ahmed case.
Caroline Kennedy has been a prominent supporter of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R Vance Jr., whose office is prosecuting the case. She endorsed the Democrat when he ran for the office in 2009.
Vance recuses himself from cases only "in very limited circumstances”, such as cases involving someone he represented while in private practice, his office said on Friday.
Ahmed is charged with two counts of aggravated harassment and one count of stalking, all misdemeanours. Ahmed has no prior criminal record, meaning he will likely face a maximum sentence of one year in prison if convicted, Hertz said.
Ahmed is barred from contacting Tatiana Schlossberg, Edwin Schlossberg and Caroline Kennedy. He remained in jail Friday after failing to post a USD 25,000 bond.
He was born in Pakistan but has lived in the United States for many years, Hertz said. He was unsure whether Ahmed is a US citizen.

The RCMP is probing an online news report that says a group of Canadian militants is training for jihad in Pakistani al-Qaida camps.
the terrorist group is training a number of Western Caucasians — Canadians in particular— for attacks in Canada
the Canadians were sent to Pakistan in November for "special courses"
the report urged the U.S. and its European allies to work together to confront this new threat

I got an interesting write up yesterday in the email... Apparently it's been circulating on the net for a couple of days. Here it is for download... Not sure who the author is, but it has some interesting observations and propositions... Distribute wide and free, as it says a lot of things we on BRF have been talking about for a while.

Pakistan is not cooperating in Afghanistan, so India has to come up with concessions. What kind of logic is that.

Amazing how casually these pukes basically demand that India surrender its interests. No skin off their back, and thats what India is dealing with. US needs to secure ist interests, and if that means India surrender its, so be it. Matter of fact, US is blinkered and consumed by self obsession, it doesn't even know, nor care, or give a flying f%^ck India's POV. Need some strong leadership in Delhi to stand up to this.csharma wrote:What's with Americans advising India to reach out to Pakistan and resolve Kashmir. Ignatius crap and now Teresita Schaffer. Two weekly holidays for Pakistan armed forces
Pakistan Railways can not run freight services (no oil, no money). Electricity generation companies can not operate their plants to full capacity (no oil, no money). I suspect now Pak Military can not run its day to day operations because of a shortage of oil or money or both. Remember the government announced sometime back two weekly holidays for the entire nation in order to reduce demand for electricity ( the order now has been withdrawn). Pak Military is now trying to conserve resources by granting extra time off for the hard-working staff!
linkThe three services of armed forces will observe two weekly holidays from January 22, according to a government notification in this regard, Geo News reported Saturday

Maulana Azad on creation of Pakistan
The Maulana said this 64 years ago:
The Maulana said this 64 years ago:
But I must warn that the evil consequences of partition will not affect India alone, Pakistan will be equally haunted by them.
We must remember that an entity conceived in hatred will last only as long as that hatred lasts.Hence the pathological and ingrained hatred for the Hindus and India
It will not be possible for Pakistan to accommodate all the Muslims of India, a task beyond her territorial capability. On the other hand, it will not be possible for the Hindus to stay especially in West Pakistan. They will be thrown out or leave on their own. Or be converted forcefully.
Pakistan itself will be afflicted by many serious problems. The greatest danger will come from international powers who will seek to control the new country, and with the passage of time this control will become tight. Aha!! India will have no problem with this outside interference as it will sense danger and hostility from Pakistan.
The confidence of East Pakistan will not erode as long as Jinnah and Liaquat Ali are alive. But after them any small incident will create resentment and disaffection. I feel that it will not be possible for East Pakistan to stay with West Pakistan for any considerable period of time. The moment the creative warmth of Pakistan cools down, the contradictions will emerge and will acquire assertive overtones. These will be fuelled by the clash of interests of international powers and consequently both wings will separate.
Amen to that foresight.West Pakistan will become the battleground of regional contradictions and disputes. The assertion of sub-national identities of Punjab, Sind, Frontier and Balochistan will open the doors for outside interference. It will not be long before the international powers use the diverse elements of Pakistani political leadership to break the country on the lines of Balkan and Arab states. May that day arrive soon. Maybe at that stage we will ask ourselves, what have we gained and what have we lost.

The desperate Americans are convinced that the only way forward for them to cut their losses in Afghanistan and run away from there is through reducing tensions between India and Pakistan. In their calculation, Kashmir valley holds the key to that. They are caught in a vice and are willing to do anything to get out of their self-created mess. In recent times, their attempts started with that Aman-ki-Asha attempt, then stone-throwing and now support for these stone throwers. One needs to also read into the difference of opinion between our Home Ministry and the Army over troop reductions. I am not sure if our Home Minister, whose pleading with the Americans to at least allow a facade of interrogation of Headley that WikiLeaks revealed, is not influenced by US thinking on the situation. Teresita Schafer is simply driving home the US government thinking. David Ignatius can be ignored though the comments section of his article is filled with wonderful replies.csharma wrote:What's with Americans advising India to reach out to Pakistan and resolve Kashmir. Balkan refers to Balkanisation which happened after second world war, what happended in 90's was the smaller version.

They are pushing for giving TSP a say in the valley. Thats what she means by asking India to "reach out" to TSP, meaning "joint management".SSridhar wrote: The desperate Americans are convinced that the only way forward for them to cut their losses in Afghanistan and run away from there is through reducing tensions between India and Pakistan. It was already talked about him and his predictions before in BRF. I gave a similar comment how foresighted he is.nachiket wrote:Amazing. He seems to have predicted future events almost exactly as they turned out.
But someone commented he is tiger under goat skin as his other materials suggest of consolidating Islamic power under India and establishing the lost Mughal empire with *united* Muslims rather than get divided by partition and loose their strength.
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): Dec. 28, 2
Well articulated explained, but i felt hasty in explaining the conclusion. The conclusion is well known revealed by the Americans. And there is another version as Plan B from another American diplomat.JE Menon wrote:I got an interesting write up yesterday in the email... If it is as complicated as reaching other conclusions like becoz of the overarching nuclear hangover , it is much harder to reach the conclusion as stated becoz of the same hangover. What happens to the bombs/missiles which are stored in every part of the partition if the partition happens is the most interesting question everyone will be looking for the answer and how the Army behave.
On the whole very well written.
