Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Not necessarily. He may be from SOG who are known to have been using Tavors for a long time.sarabpal.s wrote: Well good find we can expect zittara in hand of poor CISF chap who guarding in Delhi metro with long barrel INSAS

some good pictures are in republic day thread
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Abhishek, I think you are confusing between the SOG and SPG. The SPG protect the PM, president, ex-PMs etc. and hence have TFTA weapons and clothes and looks. SOG is different. Gaur is right, you can't really tell if that picture is of a SOG jawan or not.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
i think this may clear the air
The Army’s special forces were the first to receive them. It was then the turn of security personnel in J&K. Finally, CRPF personnel [Central Reserve Police Force paramilitary force] operating in Maoist-infested Lalgarh have got access to sophisticated weapons imported from Israel.
http://revolutionaryfrontlines.wordpress.com/2010/09/In 2009, Union home minister P Chidambaram cleared the procurement of 10,147 assault rifles from IWI in a `144-crore deal. The defence ministry had also imported similar weapons for use by its special forces.
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
SG was the first to recieve Tavors (specially the micro Tavors). After that it was the turn of PARA, RR & J&k Police SOG. Now MARCOS have also operating them it it seems that many other are also in the process of doing so. So, I am not saying that the person in A Sharma's post has to be SOG. It is just more probable because I have never heard that J&K Police (other than SOG) wear hands free comm set and carrrying Tavors. Of course, AFAIK there is way to tell from that pic whether the person is from SOG or not. Sometimes you can tell the difference when they are wearing mixed camos during operations but not when they are in proper uniform.
PS: I have seen a pic of a SOG personnel carrying Tavor many times on the net. The picture is taken from very low height and shows a khakhi clad masked policeman looming over while carrying Tavor. Unfortunately I am not able to find that pic now. If anybody comes across that pic, it would be very nice if a link could be provided. In fact it is a very common pic and I am bewildered that I am not able to find it now.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Think from the link above, it seems that it was a CRPF guy holding the Zittara/Tavor..
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
By the way, here is a pic of NSG from previous Republic Day security preperations. I do not think this one has been posted before.

Cool shot that, its Goa right or some other place in the South?
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
Vishalji,
that looks photoshopped more than anything. At Goa, the sea is at one end of the runway iirc. Don't think this picture is from there.
Btw, isn't this 'farce' mag that is derided on BR?

I just guessed Goa due to that being a MiG 29K but yet unsure about it being Goa hence the QPrasad wrote:At Goa, the sea is at one end of the runway iirc. Don't think this picture is from there.
I tweeted them about that photo, lets see what/if they reply.

Sir-ji, this looks real to me and it seems to be Goa.
This is a google earth pic from one possible angle that the pic has been taken from. The elevation is not correct of course, but the general direction is.

but the shadows don't match up.
For example the shadow of the guy standing next to the cockpit is completely off.

No its not, checkout the shadow of the canopy on the ground.indranilroy wrote:but the shadows don't match up.

The angle is the same to that of the guy standing beside the cockpit.
The sun seems about 10~11'o Clock to the Photographer & all shadows appear in accordance to that angle of light/azimuth.

Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
force has a bit of history with BR. force mag had carried articles by prasun sengupta which were word by word copies of articles by BR stalwarts(Rupak and others) hosted on the mainsite and also a couple of pics taken by ArunS @ a navy function. when the issue was brought to the notice of force management, they flatly denied that any such thing had happened (Vishal Jolapara wrote:I have no clue. Saw a nice looking photo & had a q about it thats allPrasad wrote:Btw, isn't this 'farce' mag that is derided on BR?![]()

to top it all, they threatened to sue BR for copyright abuse because some of their articles were quoted in the forum in the course of regular discussions. (as happens in an internet forum)
since then, BRF has a policy of not posting material from force. I'll let a lone pic pass but articles and such are not allowed.
p.s. apologies for disturbing the pics thread. this issue needed clarification.
cheers all !
Re: Miscellaneous Pictures - Indian Military
What I found really funny is the way Mr. Prasun Sengupta was posting on Shiv Aroor's blog and having a general rant about internet fora. Soon a lot of anonymous people started posting stuff about Mr Sengupta on the blog feedback. Shortly thereafter Uncle Google responded with Mr Sengupta's name among the top links in searches related to plagiarism. Shiv Aroor then went and deleted all the references in his blog.
But in certain word combinations on Google searches, some people have become immortal.

For those wondering about the lady officer on an armoured vehicle in the Army/Republic day parade, it's Capt Poornima on an NBC reccee vehicle.
Now. Just wanted to share my own experience and captures at the army day parade:
