thanks Jagan, are those UM's recent acquisitions ? it's interesting that the IJT gets an IAF series bort number even before IOC !

China finally gets MEA nod for Aero India show
In a last-minute change, India has allowed China’s participation in the biennial air show ‘Aero India’ in Bangalore, beginning later this week.
As reported by The Indian Express, China did not figure in the list of countries when the names of participants were released by the Defence Ministry last week. A senior Defence Ministry official had said that the Chinese delegation had not been cleared by the External Affairs Ministry, leading to speculation that New Delhi might be responding to Beijing’s controversial visa policy with regard to Indian residents of Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.
A Defence Ministry official on Sunday said the Chinese delegation had finally been cleared by the Ministry of External Affairs, paving the way for its participation in the air show. He said it was only a matter of procedural delay at the MEA but did not specify what caused the delay.

Marten saar, the current plan for me is to attend on the 12th. However, it is not yet confirmed due to iffy schedule of the buddies i am supposed to go with.Marten wrote:No one else on the 12th? C'mon people, it's a fine Saturday. We'll have a decent outing there and hopefully get to meet the good Doc later.
If they cant make it on 12th, we plan to go on 13th. However, no AI on 12th means definite visit to the Doctor's house for the meet. Hopefully, should meet you there if not coming to AI on 12th.
If my 12th AI plan is confirmed, will drop a mail to your g-male ID and we could meet at AI.

Mail from CII/AI-11 helpdesk for a query by my friend:
1. Register online with all the required details and make online payment.
2. After receiving unique id, take a print out and visit listed State Bank of India and other ticket sale counters. Tickets can also be collected from the ticket sale counters outside the Yelahanka base.
3. Show your identity and collect RFID enabled tickets. It takes some time. So kindly be patient.
4. One ticket is valid for one full day for one person. If you want to visit aero show on the subsequent day, entire process would have to be followed once again. Tickets are non-transferable.
5. Business visitors will have to park their cars in the P-9 parking (entry from Gate No. 5). Plz follow signages. Shuttle buses are available till the entry gate from the parking area.
6. Cameras are allowed. Please don’t carry baggage.
7. Food courts are there inside the venue.
8. As of now, there is no provision of reimbursement or readjustments of the amount paid.
9. On Saturday business visitor’s ticket is @ Rs 1,000/- per head. On Sunday there is no business visitor ticket as exhibition area will be open to the general visitor.
10. On the day of your visit, please carry the ticket and identity proof. Venue of the air show is Air Force Station Yelahanka on National Highway 7.
Re: AeroIndia 2011
the ticketing system is designed to make it as tough for the lay people as possible. meantime around 30,000 free passes will likely have been handed out to defence PSU employees and their families and friends.
I dont grudge them their free passes, but atleast rationalize and bring the ticketing system to a more liberal 21st century norm to ensure ease of access for normal people.

Re: AeroIndia 2011
Folks,
Had an unexpected chance to visit full-dress rehearsal for armed forces today. I just wanted to do a quick write up.
I could spot the following aircraft:
Flying Units:
SAAB Gripen
EF
Rafale
Shornet
Viper (Block 60 is probably the flying unit and another USAF one is at static display)
Su-30MKI
Tejas
Surya Kirans
IJT (fly by)
Jags (fly by)
Mi-8/17 (fly by)
3 X Su-30MKI (fly-by)
An-32 + 2 X Dorniers (fly-by)
LCH (looks like TD-1 doing the flying unless both of them have the same camo)
Sarang
ALH Demo
I think the best flying performance was by Rafale. Eurofighter was good too but didn't seem as agile asRafale. Saab Gripen was great as well. Hornet's performance was disappointing compared to other MMRCA contenders. Don't get me wrong it was good but not great! Sukohi display was OK...seemed a little bit sluggish compared to MMRCA contenders. Tejas display was good. I wouldn't say it stole the show but one could clearly make out its envelope hasn't been opened completely yet.
LCH did some good moves in the air. Almost matched Sarang's moves. Surya Kiran were impressive as usual but they didn't perform all of their routines. Seemed like their show was cut short!
Static:
Tejas Trainer
Tejas Fighter
Su-30MKI loaded
Mirage-2000
Hawk
Embraer Lineage 1000
Gripen C (?)
USAF F-16
Omega Tanker (DC-10)
USAF KC-135
and many more
As I was about to leave spotted a USAF C-130 aircraft land and headed towards the flight line up. I did not see MiG-35 in the line up neither was there any flying display. I was told that HJT-36 is part of the flying display but did not perform today; neither did F-16 Block 60 (I think it did a touch and go). Or perhaps both of them were on the afternoon roster. Didn't see Raptor as well. Is LCH TD-2 supposed to be static or flying unit? 'Cause I could spot just one LCH and I think it was the flying unit.
Americans are awesome in marketing and trying to win hearts of the people. While taxying back to the parking slot, the Hornet pilot came close to the visiting armed folks (us) with opened canopy and waved to the crowd. He stopped the aircraft for half a minute so that people might take close ups pics of the fighter and then spooled up his engine to head back. No other fighter did that...EF passed in front of the section slowly but it wasn't like the US folks. Rafale was probably trying to show its short landing distance and so was Gripen. We were almost towards the end of the runway that is away from ADVA. It would have been cool if Tejas pilot did the same.
The exhibition area (Interiors) is still being set up. Quick peak into the Dassualt section, abt half done. They were unpacking a scale model of Rafale. I expect night outs for those folks
I have pics (the far out zoom ones look small due to my limited 250mm lens), but it will take me sometime to recover and sort it out. I also will be heading again on Thu to cover business area.

Re: AeroIndia 2011
Yep, that was their act. It would have been super cool if Tejas had done something similar...hopefully they will during the actual AeroIndia days show. Also I think the LCH on flying display is TD-1. It has a chin mounted gun...not sure if the TD-2 has received the same. May be Mr. Hari from HAL could clarify that?
Did not see Dhruv WSI at the show...may be they all turn up during the next 1 or 2 days!

Re: AeroIndia 2011
Phew what a day!!!... Watched the dress rehearsal today.
Started off with the Para's doing their sky diving bit. It was the turn of 3 Mi 8/17 helos carrying India, Airforce and Aero India flags. They were followed by small boy formation an AN 32 and 2 Doniers. Followed by 5 Jags, 2 IJTs and then by the sight of the day 4 Tejas in formation (the 5 was sipping coolers as this was only a dress rehearsal). This was followed by 3 Rambhas with the flank planes peeling off to the right and left respectively. Finally they were followed by a short display by the SuryaKirans. Watching them over the years I did feel this is they were a little duller than their usual "josh" display.
The first of the Individual performances was the Tejas. This was spectacular to watch. Never seen Tejas this way. After seeing this display and knowing that this is not the full envelope I wonder if it would outperform a few of the MMRCA contenders (the F-16 and the Gripen better watch it) after the complete program is done. Yes there were a few things I was praying the Tejas would show, a slow high AoA pass but that was not to be. This show was my second highlight of the day and the incident after the show (read below) proves it.
After the Tejas was the Rafale(I am not 100% sure of the order). First time watching the plane, impression is it is very close to EF2000 in performance. Standard performance, and Raf. ale is definitely a very beautiful plane in the sky. What did strike me was this plane was the most unknown of the lot. A guy next to me identified Rafale as the Typhoon (he did get all the others right). SHornet was next, impression is that it is one of the best performers at low speeds (those huge LERX kick some serious muscle, and so do those engines). Thrust vectoring would have been great on this. There was this super marketing gimmic of the pilot who drew a collective "Haaa" from the crowd by opening the cockpit while taxing and waving to the crowd. While taxi ing away he also waved the control surfaces which also thrilled the crowd.
This was followed by the Rambha and her pelvic thrust vectored dance. Flat spins, tail slides rolls et al.I am yet to see an Indian piloted Su-30 do a cobra. I dont know if I am the unlucky one or if Indians dont do it (a question for the Gurus). After this was the Gripen again a standard gripen show. Could not help remarking how similar it was to the LCA's flying. One thing about the gripen is the takeoff and landing performance. Easily the best of the show. Landing was extremely short and surely displays the ability to land on highways. After this was the LCH. I must say LCH is by far the most confident of the display's that I saw. For a craft with < 75 hours testing the moves were as much as the WSI Druv. It def put in a show. The way it was flown would surely silence a lot of vested interests who would try to stall its induction into the forces.(hope they dont ask it to prove itself against the Ah 64 they way Arjun had to). Finally the Sarang.
Incident after the show: Went home and met a active pilot (so one who knows his planes and is aware of the capabilities of a plane). He was watching the initial part of the show and said he watched 3-4 of the individual participants before going home. I told him I was happy to see the Rafale for the first time. He asked me the first plane was Rafale right...I said not it was Tejas...His jaw dropped. He refused to believe me. He said YELLSEEYAY cannot move like this.you are giving me crap. Finally pulled out my camera and showed him the tail number. He left is a state of shock. I had a glow on my face.....WATCH OUT WORLD.. TEJAS SHINES

Re: AeroIndia 2011
Seedo sahab,
Please upload the LCA video.
To answer your question about IAF pilots doing the cobra: A cobra maneuver is not good for the fatigue life of the plane. IAF fields operational planes at air shows, and obviously doesn't need to market Su-30s. Hence it doesn't show the Cobra.
There was a report few days back during the Kalaikunda (by Kartik/Andy?). The article was about an EF-super pilots review after a back seat ride. He was mollifying the EF buyers that they bought the right plane after spending over 130M/plane (that was what his concluding statement was). Anyways, he did discuss the cobra maneuvers by IAF. It seems the IAF doesn't do a nose-up cobra, but an intense nose down one. It seems the EF-pilot wanted the IAF pilot to immediate pull the nose up after the cobra. But this was not possible as the nose of the Su-30 is quite heavy. He argued that thus the cobra has only limited use in a close combat situation.

Just a small correction for the record..
Cobra is not good for the fatigue life of the TVC nozzles (does not have an effect of the fatigue life of the a/c structure otherwise)!!!
