Re: AeroIndia 2011
I had a long conversation standing next to the Kaveri. I forgot the jargon used but the Kaveri is basically ready in terms of ground tests - but it has to pass tests to show that it can withstand the rigors of flying when attached to an aircraft - such as sudden starvation of air during a maneuver. The Kaveri team in Russia would like to speed things up but Gromov Flight Test center has a great deal of experience with engines and do not allow wanton speeding up - and ask that all data from each test be carefully analysed before the next flight. The engine has met expectations so far.
The Kaveri will definitely fly on the LCA. GTRE have apparently collaborated with HAL to make sure two LCA airframes will be available for flying the Kaveri. But this Kaveri will not power the AMCA. The AMCA will have to await the Snecma-Kaveri JV. The basic changes in Snecma Kaveri were anticipated on this forum years ago by vsunder - when he heard what GTRE was asking. Pardon me if my terminology is wrong but the man, whose name I can't recall indicated the front of the engine - the "Low Pressure Turbine" I think and said the current pressure ratio is 3.4: 1 and that has to be raised to 4:1. Secondly the inside of the engine has to burn hotter. Snecma say that any transfer of blisk tech will take a decade. Having said that there was a an SDRE blisk on display and that blisk seems to be part of a new UAV engine being developed. I have images/video that I will post in due course.
The LCA is 6950 kg. I could not get much info about weight reduction. The fuselage lengthening of Mk2 will be behind the cockpit. I was told that the Mk2 cannot be lighter than the Mk 1. The Naval LCA is coming on "well" and will fly this year, but Mao was too busy talking to Adm Arun Prakash and Cmde Balaji and I could not wait. The ADS too is progressing Mao mentioned that there is close coordination between the ADS people and the NLCA people regarding what the NLCA will specifically need wrt operating off the ADS. But it is still too early for the NLCA team to put pressure on the ADS people - though both programs will eventually converge.
AMCA has got 100 crores sanctioned and te people were confident of meeting the requirements by 2017 - but they had no idea if the Snecma Kaveri would be ready by then. The Kaveri man said that he was not in a position to give dates for Snecma Kaveri and said that was in the hands of GoI.
Before I forget - a word about the range of Brahmos. The range can go up to 450 km if the altitude of the initial flight is modified from the current value to something like 17 km. More later as my memory throws up titbits.

For Business Visitors the parking is in Air Force Domestic Area. However after you may need to walk till Gate No.1, Registration Counter, for the RFID tickets. There will be atleast 50+ people in the queue. Hope that helps!Bala Vignesh wrote:Asking on behalf of a friend,
Can some one tell me where is the parking for business visitors???? And which is the entry gate???? I have the unique ID, so where should i get the RF tickets from????

Re: AeroIndia 2011
Kanson don't get me wrong. Obviously many aircraft are capable of a vertical climb after take off - but the most spectacular vertical climbs I have seen on videos have been done in "show off" mode - by MiG 29 and others. You know as well as I do that if you keep a plane light, and the T/W ratio is near unity and the plane is kept low on the runway till adequate airspeed is built up a vertical climb on take off is not such a big deal. A loop is the same as vertical climb for about 1/4 of the time.Kanson wrote:How good is the steeper climb, comparable to the J-10 show? But the climb I saw in KGA was closer to the J-10 video - but the J-10 was steeper, since you ask. I have LCA videos from the last 2 days and will put them up in due course. I happen to use a camcorder with a digital video tape - so there is no way of getting clips without actual transfer of all the material onto a computer and it is typically 16GB of material for 1 hour of recording - so it needs some work.
I have LCA recordings from 2005, 2007, 2009 and now and even earlier. The 2007 show had the most quick rolls which were dubbed as "speeded up videos" by the usual culprits.

Re: AeroIndia 2011
Visted Aero-India on Friday. This was the second visit. Reached at 9.30 am at yelhanka and got inside after spending half hour in the line.
Flying display of Bulls was nice. Good performance by F18 team. Sukhoi -30 as usual was fantastic.
Was not happy with the way IAF fighters were lined up with Su-30 loaded with Brahmos in the extreme back.
C-130 was looking awesome.
Got to see a veiled viper member.

Just making it to the airshow today, arrived late but in some style -- in the cockpit of an A321 after a two hour journey in the jump seat!
Bangalore looks great from the air at night.
Lots of strange aircraft lined up at the airport!!

Re: AeroIndia 2011
How does it fly?
Turbofans in place of the 4 wheels?
I am sure that it can hover a few feet above the ground, and it must be a fuel guzzler.
It might be stable if it has 4 turbofans for lift and forward movement (more like the Quadrotor micro UAV - seen in 3 idiots)

Gentlemen,
Just back from the airshow.
for those of you who may be interested:
Tejas empty weight - 6560 Kg.
Kaveri wet thrust achieved at Bangalore (3000 feet) - 72KN. tests in Russia went well. Dry thrust of 52 KN was achieved as well. Integration with Tejas demo by 2013.

1.goode olde dynamic pressure (foldable wings), generatre enough speed for lift
2. an air curtain/skirt (bleed to create an air cushion) to use ground effect
3. on this photo can't see effective propulsion
Unlike tho possible

hi,
how can i book tickets for Air Show (Aero India 2011) for my daughter who is 5 years old in general public quota and don't have Passport (voterid,DL,pan card etc not valid is only due to age factor)?. Why are you making ticket booking process such a difficult ?. As i have to book tickets separately (i.e one for me , one for my spouse and another for my daughter).
I am trying to reach the contact numbers given are not reachable.
Tickets +91 - 7760996391
I even sent a message thru https://www.aeroindia.in/Enquiry.aspx, 2 days back but no response yet.
Thanks,

Take a ticket in her name. Your id will suffice. Also, when I was at SBI, I heard the HAL guy saying that children will be allowed with parents if the tickets are taken in parents name.arisettia wrote:hi,

Your daughter gets through on the basis of an id card of a person accompanying her = so your passport should do for her.arisettia wrote:hi,

Re: AeroIndia 2011
cough cough boys, today morn the traffic jam started from hebbal itself. lots of policemen posted to keep cars moving and service lanes clear. the public parking lots seemed to be quite far with long lines both there and a km long line at main entrance. we reached at around 10.15pm and saw the surya kiran display from the car. I didnt bother to waste time in hot sun trying to gain entry but parked comfortably in service road and village area just after end of runway. 100s of cars were already parked there. its the spot where planes turn into or out of runway after a pass so it was not bad...very wide FOV and clear view. villagers were crowding rooftops and quite decent - nobody was charging extra for food and drink.
here are the 17 best of what I took, with a low end 55-200mm vr lens and handheld.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/33097132@N ... /lightbox/
I fear the people stuck in that queue missed the morning show altogether..the tejas came up just about as we parked and took position. hope the managed to stick it out until the 2-4pm show.
impressions -
- tejas looked powerful but not pushing the envelope as expected
- F18 was a bit slowish in its moves
- Gripen/F16 was very fast in its passes (couldnt take a decent pic due to this, and looked plenty more agile)
- Rafale fell somewhere in between and very beautiful
- F16 and Gripen were both fast and sneaky, almost soundless on approach but growling as it passed you
- Sukhoi was noisy and showed its usual "standing motionless" and 360 tvc rotation thing
- every plane made on slow speed pass to show its handling, in this the f18 was good...almost standing still kind of.
but the EF caught my eye as the most perfect example of fluidic motion, aggression and instability...it made some really low passes and helped by releasing white smoke for most of its routine. clearly an a/c that can do 2 x 360 barrel rolls without even thinking about it....amazing...
its my new favourite mrca plane

Re: AeroIndia 2011
How exactly is that Maruti meant to fly?
Re: AeroIndia 2011
I dont think it can fly, perhaps hover a few feet AGL. hopefully its not using herbal petrol for it. a couple of guys with a rope could tether this hovering car and pull it in any direction.
obviously DGCA didnt want such a loose cannon drifting all over the yelehanka apron with 100 costly a/c parked in close proximity.
but we should see it in some local fair soon...
