I figured this India is favourite business. Slots for the semi-finals have not been sold yet and if India crash out in Quarters, the Broadcasters will make a huge Loss. SO all this Hype is send the ad rates sky high with advance payments.
If the Broadcasters were confident of India getting to the Finals, semi final and final spots would have been horded and released in the last minute.
Bloody Cheats- zero patriotism.

Bhajji and Chawla did the trick. Munna is back to his usual service, 22 of 2 overs.

^^ Sacrilege.
We must raise our expectations sky high so that they can be dashed later. You are committing sacrilege and heresy by not conforming to this. May lice strike your beard and your goat.

No no it's only spinners who performed well, batting is yet to reach it's peak.

We need to win the toss in those venues , actually batting first was the key yesterday too .Marten wrote: We need to quickly run through our stats at all grounds. Chennai, Mumbai, and Dhaka might not be the best grounds for us. Not sure why, but we've struggled a bit.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Pranthan bowled decently. Especially compared to Nehra and Munna who were both selected in the squad ahead of him. We have to pin all our hopes on the spinners and Zak. Munna is sure to get smacked around just like yesterday. Nehra isn't much better though he may fire unexpectedly.
The batting of course is unsurprisingly still in doldrums. Yuvraaj and Captaan saab have to get their act straight. Nice to see Sehwag score a fifty. If he fires at the top that is generally enough to turn the match in our favor. Let us hopes God is not rusty after all his time away from ODIs.
BTW, what happened to the substitute option they had added for some series a few years back? I thought it made the matches more interesting. The only problem was that the captain had to announce the 12th man (and substitute) before the toss instead of after it.

Re: The Cricket Thread
we would badly miss praveen kumar in this tournament.
Re: The Cricket Thread
^^^ cough cough...you say that even after today's victory? Whats with you man? Yeah I know he's one of the smarter chaps around, but when there's a batsman on a roll, he's plain meat at times. Don't think we'll miss him 'badly'. But he's a fighter, that guy.
Re: The Cricket Thread
I thought they brought on pathan too late today. krezja was flighting the ball so wide of off stump, it got me salivating in the drawing room. Should have sent the uber homo sapien 2 down instead of that scum like yuvraj. Thats where we lost at least 4-5 monster hits down the drain. Of the 7 balls yuvraj played today, he didn't play even one ball with authority. These days he seems more at mercy of the bowlers. Instead of yuvraj, we were better off having a rohit sharma or uthappa in our side. I foresee yuvraj embarrassing himself even more as we move along in this tourney, to the extent that he will be left out of the final 11 and the next tournament. dhoni will follow closely. I'm damn worried about raina though. He seemed to be riding a heavenly wave just a few months back, going neck to neck with God. Would be sad to see him turn into another irfan pathan.
All we need is Gambhir to fire - just a matter of time before he does that. He looks so solid dealing with the super fasts and spinners alike. Subhanallah, the sweet smell of world cup keeps getting stronger.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Dm, today's wicket was a bowler's wkt. PK should be used in 5-6 over opening spell, 2 or more in the mid overs to just make up numbers and not more than 2 at the death.
dhoni hasn't used him correctly. he is not a bowler to be given 5 overs at the death.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Pravin Kumar can generate and control movement with the new ball. He's a lot more effective at the start than than Munna and Nehra and can take the all too important early wickets. At the death he loses his usefulness due to his benign pace. I agree with Breaperullah. We will miss him. I am hoping Pranthan pulls up his socks and grabs the opportunity he's got. Of course our great Kaptaan has to pick him in the playing 11 first.
Re: The Cricket Thread
At the moment, the greatest service the great kaptaan can do us is dropping himself out of the starting 11.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Does a captain has to be in the playing 11?
Re: The Cricket Thread
yes, not in 11 then no can be kaptaanSaiK wrote:Does a captain has to be in the playing 11?
Re: The Cricket Thread
^^^
I believe that the captain has to be on the playing 11. If the captain has to leave the game for some reason, the vice-captain takes over, or if the vice-captain is not present, captain designates who is to be the captain in his absence.
Mind you, captain role is largely ceremonial in International cricket. He has to be the chap that takes the toss, declares the innings officially closed, the guy that the umpire conveys messages to, the guy that leads the squad to the field to meet some dignitary etc.
In boarding school cricket, captains have a bit more power. They help decide the playing squad and make sure everyone is following the training schedule and stuff.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Armenullah, he also decides the Bowling changes, field placings, batting order, tactics, etc. all pf which have a significant impact on the game. The captain's role is ceremonial in football. In cricket, it is very important.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Since cricket is a team sport Fielding, Bowling and Batting needs to be weighed in a 33.33% each. Any team member that saves 50 runs with his fielding alone is as good as scoring a half century. Same thing with bowlers!
BOWLERS and CATCHES win matches!! Batsman can only defend.

Re: The Cricket Thread
huh, there's nothing fielders can do if yusuf pathan is on song against the bowlers.
Re: The Cricket Thread
The winners of this world cup is Pakistan. As a last minute change Diggy Raja and Mulayam Singh will jointly present the cup to Afridi.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Bah, ignore this Ahmaddiya Qadiyani kaffir...They will peak exactly two days before "our" final match. <--please read this sentence twice.
Why is SRT not playing? He has played exactly one match after the 200 hasnt he?
Re: The Cricket Thread
imo dhoni needs some good knocks to justify his seat in the ODI team...infact in any team. form seems to have fallen off steeply after marriage
no comments on the yuvaraj. atleast he bowls some useful spin and is good at gully when fit.

Anyone know what the deal is between the two? He is on record earlier saying that SRT's luck is so bad that he will never win a WC.Why didn't Tendulkar succeed as a captain? You were in the same team, so you should know.
I don't want to talk about him. There are some people I just don't want to talk about.

Re: The Cricket Thread
IIRC prior to the tour of OZ in 99-2000 SRT refused to captain a side with Mch Azhar and Bch Mongia in it because of their close connections with bookies, but obviously there is more to it. For that matter, I'm not too convinced about paaji Kapil's innocence either.

SRT will play 3 matches and then will go injured list.
Ofcourse the prima donna Yuvi will hurt his <shoulder/knee/hip> while diving and will be on bench along with Zaheer..

Re: The Cricket Thread
SRT has been around so long that he played under Azhar and Azhar's era is like ancient history. How can one forget that ********'s running everybody out and then spooning catches to infield. One time in Sharjah, this idiot went for fielding in the long on so he can see Bijlani sitting in the stands...he was making signs to her. And one other time, the fellow came to bowl at the most inopportune of the moments..spot fixing. I am convinced it was Azhar who introduced fellows like Mongia, Prabhakar (although Prabhakar could have been in it before Azhar or around the same time), Jadeja etc to the bookies. And on top of all that, when he was exposed, he said he is being victimized for being a minority. He now says that he was 'misinterpreted'..but I am not sure. He is capable of making such statements.Tanaji wrote:Anyone know what the deal is between the two? He is on record earlier saying that SRT's luck is so bad that he will never win a WC.
SRT's failure as a captain was due to, in no small measure, Azhar and his buddies playing for the other team. SRT had some bad luck in crucial matches too. Good thing he gave captaincy up..so he can bat for as long as he has.
added later: b.astard is ***ed out. hmm. is that such a bad word?
