the fight is between raina and yuvi. it's a toss up but I'll take a yuvi on form over raina.

But yuvi is not in form. Far from it actually. He seems to be bowling well though. That's the only reason I can think of why he is chosen above Raina. Raina's only weakness is against fast bowlers on bouncy tracks. And we aren't going to be encountering many of those in the WC (hopefully). In Indian conditions Raina is almost as deadly as Pathan when he gets going. Yuvi used to be the same but he hasn't batted like that in a long time. Raina seems more agile in the field than Yuvi as well.
Kohli's place is fixed IMO. We have enough big hitters. Kohli has a Dravidesque quality to him.

Pranthan will have another opportunity -- I hope he gets to play against the Aussies. He will shine when the time comes. ;)
I have badmouthed munna several times here and pitched for Pranthan. I hope Munna makes me eat my words and Pranthan doesn't.

I've done my share but munna's basics were always better fitted to ODI cricket in the sub-cont than sree. just check how many wkts he got today because of his wkt to wkt bowling.

The problem with Sreesanth as per Dhoni is

He doesnt listen to advice
He does not stick to the bowling plan and bowls what he feels like
He takes too long to bowl an over which causes Dhoni problems with his over rate
He is difficult to control with his temper and results in Dhoni having to apologize or face fines

#1-2 costs us the match, #3-4 makes Dhoni unlikely to use him,

One thing is clear. Never believe dreams. Dreams are illusion put up by your conscious brain while you are sleeping................usually concerning your needs, fears or imagination. I was bit suspicious about BD team (rightly so........they played too good for an underdog) when I had dream of India loosing.

^^ He isnt included in the list of 15 players.

He goes for runs on flat pitches. He has the pace, but not the wherewithal to mix it up and restrict runs.

I don't know why people are misinterpreting Sehwag's comment about Srisanth. I can understand the ones on BD forum because he has time and again shown them their rightfool place, but even folks here..?
He said (paraphrasing) "every one (bowler) did well except Srisanth.." people are quoting only up to here. What he said in the next sentence was to the tune of "but everyone has a bad day once in a while.."
He spoke the truth that Srisanth had a bad day. How is that "picking on him?" I think people are being too sensitive.

I will criticize any player who does not perform. I will also praise him when he does well. Like Munna did today.

Like SRT who got onlee 30 odd runs when Veeru made a near double ton. :) Some are unhappy that SRT did not make the first ton so taking it out on poor Sreesanth who was unwanted for the ODI even by his own kapitan. :P

See Tanaji misquoted Veeru here. If people want to support the Indian team here it better be all in it, off day for one or not. Just high lighting the sensitive nature of such misquotes. :)

That is how you would like it to be, but others don't need to be that way eh? I quit "supporting" when they play pathetic (as in, I turn off the match and do something more productive, like hunting unsuspecting abduls on brf). But I enjoy when they play well. Don't see nothing wrong with it. Cricket is just a game for me (my enjoyment, how I choose to enjoy it) and not a religion veligion. I am surprised how many people associate it as being a "religion" in the subcontinent. Just other day someone here posted it is more than a religion in India. I was like, what?

I am willing to step back in the same spirit.

It is WC after all and the players are representing India here and not their IPL paymasters or brand ambassadors. So maybe the sensitivity in this case. Otherwise I am fine with regular banter and pulling leg etc based on even parochial lines within limits, of course.

From the very little I saw of this match online, it was clear that Sree was really out of his usual self and not for not trying hard. No antics were recorded at least. So give him a break. He is not known for any ODI performances. So is a step in for Praveen's absence for whatever reasons. I am sure if there was another option Dhoni would have picked another.

and to be fair (I just realized it when I read), people are only quoting half of Sehwag's comment on Shree probably because cricinfo did that. Some of us who heard him speak would have a different impression from that statement.

Re: The Cricket Thread

bade sahab, he did have nehra and IMHO nehra is a much better ODI bowler than sree.

sree is a very talented bowler who is best used in test matches for the moment. he doesn't have the control or maturity needed to be a consistent ODI bowler ATM. it's the same deal with ishant.
horses for courses, just because they are talented don't make IS or sree good ODI bowlers. conversely nehra doesn't even merit a place in the test side where these two are shoo-in. pound for pound the lowly PK is a close second as our best ODI bowler after ZK.

I don't see what IPL or brand ambassador or playing for India has to do with it.

Nehra was out with a sore back. So it was either Santhakumaran or another spinner.

Rahul_M, No disputes about Sree's abilities for ODIs. The kapitaan made his mistake by selecting him against the junta's wishes and common sense, mainly since he did not have a choice onlee.

Mahdi-jee, what happened ? did not get ur beef-laid-Appams at BC forums. :rotfl: :P

BTW, thnx for that link at the opportune time to watch SreeKhand getting Appamed. :) and more opportunities for IED Mubarak for you.

The problem with Pranthan is that he has to yet establish to be on the same level playing thoughts among aam fans who measure based on consistent success for a period of time. Talent alone is not sufficient, for example S Vishwanath who was sacked by Gavaskar just for his behavior.. He is the most talented, after SMH kiri but could not survive 'cause of attitude that kiran more can have to take over the gloves easily.

It is important for Pranthan to know these fundamentals, and i am sure if he is a psychology graduate, he should be able to decipher this. God bless him.

Mah pleasure Big Ji

Trust me, I am a fan of appam god, I think he is much better than munna patel and Nehra.

What I don't understand is the herrow worship of the non delivering appam god. Beebal who otherwise set high moral standards suddenly become shenshitb and start linking Appam god's lack of form with mere mortal SRT's run out, whyphor saar?

My 3 yr old nephew who is just back from a holiday in Keralastan has only one question to ask about kirket " is appam god the only bowler in the Indian team ? "

Hope appam god finds form soon, he is after all the only quick bowler in the side who has the experience of winning a world cup.(20-20)

Mahdi-jee, you got confused only how can one be a herrow worshipper of Appam eating Beef god while wearing sickle-chaap banians, it is not allowed in that religion. :P Your IEDs are going phut onree.

Just imagine if we have more Appam eating super-phast bowlers in TI, then this thread would cease to exist. Hope such terrifying dreams are not inflicted upon the innocent mujahid kirket fans. :)
