FYI, the original word was "batters" back before W.G. Grace was a gleam in his dad's eyes. The word "batsman" came into vogue in the early 20th century (i can dig up the reference). People are just returning to roots onlee.

PS: I wouldn't be surprised if there is an anti-Bengal wave in Bengaluru on this issue (just kidding Mahul R!). :P
given the events I won't be surprised if there is an anti-bengal (cricket assoc. of) wave in kolkata itself.

partha, was the sidhu episode from the sharjah match where we crossed 300 for the first time and sachin sidhu both got 100's ? azhar made a 29 off 10 IIRC.

So fans cant buy tickets online because Kyazoonga are incompetent and buying tickets at gate is not possible because you get lathi charged. Looks like a deliberate state of affairs so "preferred" folks in various associations can get these tickets.

Yuvraj Singh just about escaped a possible major injury when a ‘beamer’ from Sreesanth struck his left hand during Thursday’s practice session at the National Cricket Academy here.

Main bach gaya, aur kya. Boy, I was lucky,” Yuvraj, who has off and on been getting injured for over four years now, told The Telegraph on returning to the Royal Gardenia.

Sreesanth did promptly apologise, but Yuvraj wasn’t too impressed. Understandably so. Later, he regained composure and resumed batting.

The ‘beamer’, clearly, was the sole talking point at Team India’s extended session in the lead-up to Sunday’s marquee match, against England.

That a bowler is throwing a beamer even in a practice session is not a great sign about his form and control. Bouncer is one thing..

Throwaib Chuckthar and Brethrow Lee employ the beamer as a weapon to unsettle batsmen who have an upper hand on them. One can almost predict when they are going to chuck the beamer. I think Appam God is having a bad time Chappad phad ke, the good thing about it is luck can change in a jiffy.

I would most definitely play Appam God in the next game.

on radio I heard:
ICC took 10,000 - not sure who gets these, would get sold in black?
british cricket took 10,000 for its fans - I do not think 10k brits would land in blr to watch this, someone will sell in black?
politicians took 4000 - ofcourse!
sponsors took a thick cut - I guess they have some right to.

finally only 5000 tickets were left. of these some were sold online in the 20 mins the website was up. rest for the people in line.

And to think the same BD team that ireland bundled out for some 205 in 50- overs scored 280 odd against the Yindian bowling 'attack'.... scary to think what sturdier teams will do against same attack only....

^ Saar it is not an "attack", it is the Indian batting "defense". If the "batters" don't score 330+ it is their problem! 8)

completely different pitch. a BCB official said they were picking a low and slow spinning pitch for the irish as against a batting wicket against India.

Saw fans being beaten black and blue by Police outside chinnaswami stadium. The poor guys were there just to buy tickets and cheer for India.
For once everyone should Boycott these matches and let the organizing committee baboons watch the empty stadium.
Anyways BCCi and its cohorts don't want fans in the stadium.

chinnaswamy stadium has a thick layer of standing water inches deep per toi pic. more rain is forecast today. outfield could be too dangerous for fielders.

the people who braved police lathis to get their paltry few tickets may be all for nothing. sad.

Yes Rahulji, it is that match where we hit iirc 305. I remember Azhar pelting Ata Ur Rehman left right and centre.

Nehra is injury free. seriously a PIL needs to be filed and supreme court needs to hand a judgement that in ALL CASES , atleast 85% or more tickets must be sold in open sale. and BAN the giving of complimentary tickets to "high officials and ministers"

Do the grounds belong to Associations? If no, then limit the # of complimentary tickets. The state government should make sure that no logistics including security will be provided unless 90% of tickets are reserved for the public. Ratnakar Shetty's comment that associations/sponsors are also public doesn't cut.

The ground belongs to the associations. BCCI merely rents them from the associations. This is why there has been a ticket fiasco: there was no central authority issuing tickets for the WC: every association was printing its own. The associations have it in their charter probably to share the tickets, so we are shafted.

Add to that the grounds have their capacity reduced due to renovation AND creation of hospitality boxes at the cost of regular seats to make a profit means that ordinary spectators hardly get any tickets.

What we need are mega stadiums rather than piddly 30K ones.
