The original photo is a beautiful one and he had forbidden me from uploading it when he was alive.
Please upload it in full resolution especially if it is in colour - it makes a very good subject for modeling or sketching.

Shiv,

Do you have decent resolution pics as seen at 2:40, 2:50 (both four migs in color formation over rajpath) 3.37, 3.49, 3:56, 4:00 (Gp photos of crews and individual migs from some album) to add to the BR galleries?

Also the pic of Kukke Suresh on the MiG-21 - any chance of scanning it high res and taking a peek at the tail number? a lot of people (other than raja :) ) would also like to know about it :)

Jagan I can send you hi res pics of all - although the actual paper of the 4 MiG formation is no longer in such great shape. Raja Bose - unfortunately the Suresh pic is in black and white - but last night I found what i was looking for - - i.e the story of the demo. It was for an early 1971 display at Tilpat. There was to be a 4 MiG flying display led by the Sq Ldr (I think) Kapila and a single MiG 21 display done by Wg Cdr Gill with Suresh as standby. The MiG were painted a bright red using dry distemper - and Vayu has a color photo of one such MiG in red - minus the eye - which is pity. Will send Jagan that too if you want.

shiv, Please scan the pic with Suresh in it anyways and send it to Jagan, he can fwd it to me. I have a spare MiG 21 kit so might want to attempt the  paint scheme - people have done the tiger stripes one but this one is even more unique. Just completed a MiG-21 sketch so can't incorporate it into that unfortunately.

Nice video's of US Navy SEAL swimming training. Found it posted on Facebook as a recruitment tool.
Combat Side Stroke- Going to give this one a try this week.

Would be lovely if our guys started putting up some content like this. Would definitely help in attracting recruits. Better still possible recruits (coming from non-traditional military backgrounds) would have a better idea of what is expected rather than have to rely on hearsay-"Physicals, you only get through if you are x ft tall and can run 30 kms at one shot."

X-Post from LCA Thread

Amazing ADA-LCA video of all major tests (background score : Vande Matram AR Rahman)

I like the part when the R-73 screams away in sync with the song at 0:44 and then the last part with 5 LCAs in formation. Kudos ADA and Jai Hind!

I notice that stringent physical requirements are a "turn on" for American teenage boys because the culture in America adulates people who are supposedly badass/kickass. I have nephews (Indian Americans) who dream of joining the Marines and look down on the regular US army.

Lots of Pakis and some others laugh and mock this video that I put up (see the comments) . I will put up a better quality longer video in due course - but this is the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment training - from the 1980s I think

NDTV's food show on INS Mysore...

http://www.ndtv.com/video/player/jai-hi ... yur/189922

I must say NDTV is doing a fantastic job in making our defence forces, our weapons more acessible to ordinary public...

Even though it is a food show & not quite focused on the military side of our forces, it is quite enjoyable....

Beating Retreat - 2011
The full video recording of the Beating Retreat Ceremony, 2011. This is from the Doordarshan live telecast. And I must say that their way of capturing this event has been quite good (I compare this with the Trooping the Colour in the UK). Some 25 tunes, out of which 19 tunes are composed by Indian Military Music composers.
Surprize: From what I could make out from the visuals, two people seem to enjoy this show. Our Vice President MA Ansari, and Sonia Gandhi :).

Looks like the bands are receiving much more attention these days. One thing, the Indian army bands have started seeing the world. The internet etc. also have the video clippings etc. Two years back our Band took part in the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh. With all these changes, I feel the choreography is changing for the better. New marching formations, movements etc. could be seen during this year's Beating Retreat.
Also some of the old tunes seem to have been played on other instruments.
Yes. I noticed two tunes. Bharat Rakshak BAND STAND has the military band version, where as the same tunes were played by the Pipes and drums this time. The tunes are Channa Bilawari and Konkan Sundari.

Found this programme on Youtube and quite enjoyed it. It starts off when Artem Mikoyan is learning his ropes and covers every aircraft designed by Mikoyan and the MIG bureau from the Mig-1 to the Mig-31. Although a western production, it is a pleasantly unbiased programme.

History of the MIG - Part 1

History of the MIG - Part 2

History of the MIG - Part 3

History of the MIG - Part 4
