Sherry Rehman next on Pakistan militants' hitlist, friends fear
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/ma ... ws-hitlist
And then there was one. Of the three brave Pakistani politicians who stood up for Aasia Bibi, an embattled Christian woman flung on to death row last year, just one is still alive: Sherry Rehman. The liberal parliamentarian from Karachi, known for her glamorous style and outspoken views, spearheaded efforts to reform the much-abused blasphemy law after Bibi, a mother of four, was sentenced to death for allegedly insulting the prophet Muhammad.Rehman, 50, was joined in her lonely struggle by two men – the Punjab governor, Salmaan Taseer, and the minorities minister, Shahbaz Bhatti. Now both of them are dead and worries are growing that Rehman is next. "Make no mistake: she is in grave danger, like nobody else," one friend said.
She flies to Islamabad discreetly – once on a friend's private jet – but dares not appear in parliament. Her movements have become secret, highlighting how a vibrant voice has been silenced by intolerant forces some warn could entirely suffocate Pakistan's fragile democracy. "We are the knife's edge. A clerical tsunami is headed towards us," liberal academic Pervez Hoodbhoy told a literature festival in Karachi last month.
( Call This Romilla Thapar Principle)
Ironically, although many people have died as a result of blasphemy since the military dictator General Zia ul Haq made it a capital offence in the 1980s, none have been hanged under the law itself.Instead dozens of blasphemy suspects, the majority of them Muslims, have been murdered, either while standing trial, in prison or after returning home. It's not just them – judges are fearful of ruling in blasphemy cases, fearing they too will be targeted.

Are the leftists of the west slowly coming to conclusion that the Islamists are a threat to the west as much as the Indians, and hence singing different tunes?

Kanchan Gupta's article is relevant: http://kanchangupta.blogspot.com/2011/0 ... i-rip.html
As after Taseer’s assassination, the Left-liberal commentariat in India has been vociferous in denouncing the murder of Bhatti and shedding copious crocodile tears.

The libbers’ grief would have been touching but for the fact it is so much bunk. Here’s why. The Left-liberal commentariat remained stunningly silent when Bangladeshi dissident writer Taslima Nasreen was being hounded by mullahs and their storm-troopers. There were no voices of protest when Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen goons assaulted her in Hyderabad. There was undisguised glee when the CPI(M) used manufactured mullah rage against Taslima Nasreen to chase her out of Kolkata.

I know it for a fact that many of those who are waxing eloquent on the “assault on freedom of expression and liberalism” in Pakistan had ‘advised’ the Government of India not to extend Taslima Nasreen’s residence permit.

The Left-lib commentariat has been vicious while lashing out at those who have dared criticise the abuse of sharia’h and Muslim Personal Law in India, or sought a uniform civil code to protect the rights of Muslim women. They pitilessly mock at those who denounce the burqa, insisting it’s a matter of “individual choice” which is of course not true. They gloss over the most regressive actions and utterances of the mullahs and accuse their critics of indulging in Islamophobia.

X Posted from the Oppression of Minorities thread.

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan seems to have paved the way for the killing of the Christian Minorities Affairs Minister Shahbaz Bhatti by Islamic Terrorists by withholding adequate security arrangements.

Dawn reports the late Minister was not provided with a bullet proof car nor on the day of his assassination escorted by a security detail despite the late Minister requesting the same:

Minority minister and the missing security

The fact that the now dead Minister was faced with a clear and present danger to his life from Islamic Terrorists was not exactly a big secret as Jang reports:

Jang had warned of plot against Bhatti twice

In the Islamic Republic of Pakistan the fate of an individual belonging to a religion other than Islam and thus being a “Dhimmi” is a horrible one.

^^^ I hope these RAPE types have security cover in Dilli. Am sure TSP would like nothing better than to execute a hit on Indian soil. Would kill 2 birds with one stone - complies with wajib-ul-cutlet and soils India's reputation for peace, progress, openness, freedom from fear and all those nice things.

Pakistan's blasphemy laws: a history of violence

http://afpak.foreignpolicy.com/posts/20 ... f_violence

A Return to Hell in Swat: The Pakistani Army -- and Gen. David Petraeus -- treated the counterinsurgency effort in the Swat Valley as a monumental success. A year later, things on the ground look quite a bit different.

Inside the Taliban Shuffle

http://afpak.foreignpolicy.com/posts/20 ... an_shuffle
Not many women can say that Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan's troubled former prime minister, tried to set her up on a date with a Pakistani man. Kim Barker, the author of The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, can do that one better: she can say Sharif tried to set her up with Asif Ali Zardari, :rotfl: the president of Pakistan.

Barker, appropriately, declined Sharif's kind invitation; she also had to decline, sometime later, Sharif's invitation to be his latest mistress. :rotfl:

...

Then there are the constant clichés. A decade after U.S. troops first assaulted Afghanistan, it is difficult to discuss the war without resorting to clichés. They permeate everything written about the country, whether the people (tribal, venal, obsessed with sex and animals and p0rn :rotfl: and drugs and politics), the landscape (a "moonscape," to be more precise, as if America lacks deserts or mountains), or the fighting (bloody, Taliban, IEDs, ambush, airstrike).

Assassination leaves everyone shell shocked

Oh, really ? Everyone ? When do 'a few relatives and friends' become 'everyone' ?
Condemning the assassination, U. S. Ambassador Cameron Munter said his country would stand with the people and government of Pakistan in their fight against the forces of intolerance and violent extremism that was a threat to all.
The 'people & Government of Pakistan' are against violent extremists ? It is either a standard operating procedure to use such meaningless phrases due to reasons of 'realpolitik' or some people cling to a fond hope that somehow the trajectory of salafism can be reversed in Pakistan.

Bhatti's assassination is an insider job. Not that it is too difficult to kill a person, especially on the killing fields of the Land of the Purest. But, I am convinced that Bhatti was deliberately left to the mercy of his killers by the jihadi-pasand Government of Pakistan. It is similar to the assassination of Ms. BB when the State hired the killers and then deliberately slackened security to her to allow the hit squad to complete the job. For proof, look at the following two reports, one from DT and the other from DAWN.
Bhatti Assassinated
According to sources, the minister had already informed the Interior Ministry and Cabinet Divisions about the continuous threats he received for his stand against misuse of the blasphemy law.

Bhatti had even asked for enhanced security and a bulletproof vehicle from the ministries concerned but his request was not entertained despite the fact that the minister was on the hit list of religious extremists. Even Islamabad police failed to provide him a security cover.

Bhatti had, his family members revealed, also asked for a residence in the Ministers’ Enclave over security reasons, a request which was not granted until his death.
So, none of his requests for enhanced security cover was acceded to though GoP (Gilani & Zardari) knew that he was on the hit list and being a kafir was most likely the next target after Taseer. Yet, they turned down protection to him.

Now, read this report by the IG of Police, Islamabad.
Bhatti assassination not due to security lapse: IG
Durrani said usually ministers are provided with one squad but Shahbaz Bhatti had been provided with two squads for his protection.

Durrani told APP that Shahbaz Bhatti himself had directed that the squads not be provided at his residence.

There was no squad or protection with him when the assailants opened fire at Shahbaz Bhatti.
Now, that is incredulous, to say the least. Why should a minister who took threats to his life seriously and who asked for enhanced protection spurn away police squads that were supposedly given by the Islamabad police ? Even if no squad was provided at his residence, why was there no protection for him when he was moving about ?

Not to dispute your assessment, but apparently Bhatti did not take the security detail when he went to see his mother (and possibly prayed with her). He did take the threat to his (and possibly his mother's) life serious and maybe he did not want to incite any of his security guards (2 Kaffirs praying is enough to incite the pure blood)? That being said, his usual habit of not taking the guards with him when visiting his mother, and the timings of his trip etc should have been leaked by an insider. The yahoos could not simply have guessed it.

Ofcourse the fact that nobody gave him a bullet proof car or a residence in a safer location speaks volumes.

None of the Paki politicians have mentioned "Christian" or "Blasphemy law" in their condolence for Bhatti. And Nation edit today explicitly mentions that it is a RAW-CIA-Mossad conspiracy to spoil the image of Pakistan.

Anujan ji, that is even more unbelievable for me. Bhatti knew he was most likely to be bumped off, demanded high security for him including a bullet proof car and yet thought that those who were following him to kill him would not do so whenever he was visiting his mother ? Why ? Out of of respect for filial affection among the Believers ? Besides, everybody knew he was a kafir and would be following kafir-rituals inside his own or his mother's house. I expect him to be a regular church goer as well. Also, he had clearly said that blasphemy law must not be misused and asserted that he stood by that statement (saw a BBC interview yesterday). So, his views and religious affiliations were well known. Why should only visiting his mother incite feeding frenzy among his security sharks that he discarded the security detail ?

Bhatti travelled without security detail because he did not trust them. Hi mistrust was based on Taseer getting killed by his own guard.

Obama condemns assassination in Pakistan
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama on Wednesday condemned the assassination of the only Christian member of Pakistan’s government, calling the slaying of Shabaz Bhatti a “horrific act of violence.”
Republicans and Democrats in Congress echoed Obama’s outrage, hours after Bhatti was gunned down outside his mother’s home. His slaying came just weeks after the killing of liberal politician Salman Taseer. The two men had pushed to change laws that impose the death penalty for insulting Islam.
“He is literally a modern-day martyr,” said Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., at a Capitol Hill news conference.
Bhatti, a campaigner for human rights causes, had been aware of threats to his life. Obama said Bhatti “fought for and sacrificed his life for the universal values that Pakistanis, Americans and people around the world hold dear” — including rights to free speech and religious freedom.Assailants from al-Qaida and the Pakistani Taliban Movement in Punjab province claimed responsibility, calling Bhatti an “infidel Christian

Good. All this Bull-Cattle business is like what Suppiah said . Barbarians culling each other. Yeah, the unwashed bearded Abduls will wipe out the suave RAPES and the Langotya types will come to power by doing more Bull-Cattle. What that will mean that a massive amount of Bull-Catling will have to happen , including between the PA and the Abduls and finally the Paki state will collapse into a Somalia like situation.

That it the time when it will be so toxic that it will of of no "strategic" value to Unkil and Panda or anyone, sort of like a Somalia. Then Unkil be forced to stop treating Pakiland as an "Asset" , but as a massive proliferation and nook leak problem and move to nook nood pakiland. That is great for the world and all humanity. Pakiland state should atrophy and be destroyed. There is not two ways about it, whatever the WKK types and "Joined in the hips" types go on and on about.

The one thing we should absolutely make sure is that absolutely ZERO Paki Abdul gets to cross the border into Guj, Rajasasthan, Punjab and into J&K when Pakiland implodes. Any refugee centers/safe areas/safe havens should be set up by the UN within the current Pakiland borders and any Paki trying to enter India should be sent back or get their 72s in the process of doing so.
And oh, also shoot up any Paki boat that tries to cross the 12 nm limit into the Arabian sea /international waters .

I used to be furious when Obama and other Western leadwers did psy-ops on India recalling Indias pluralistic religious heritage, tolerance etc these being a not so veiled threat to keep Hindu nationalism in check and allow free undermining of the rashtra by every two bit seccesionist.

But this is hilarious-the shared Ameircan and Pakistani heritage of free speech and religious freedom.Or may be he is speaking the truth that the Abrahamic derivatives are fundamentally alike. They believe in free undermining of ancient traditions, while repression, cloaking, double standards are perfectly OK for their purpose.

But Pakis atleast are not as poisonous as amir khan diplomutts and may take offense at Obama's sermons.

Same source:.
The army cultivated and supported the militants as proxy weapons for their own strategic purposes in Kashmir and Afghanistan. Soldiers are the Taliban's principal targets, but links with the militants are still maintained by some of their officers. The judiciary is also party to these suicidal games. Estranged from her party, Ms Rehman is exposed to prosecution in Lahore and Multan on petitions to get her disqualified as an MP and have her tried for blasphemy. This is not justice. It is legal persecution and any court should have thrown these petitions out. The government, the army, the courts are all playing with fire. Appeasement never works and, in the end, that flame will consume them all.

Pakistan is on it's way to be the true Islamic Republic. Problem is it doesn't have to be that way. The RAPE vs Army vs Mullah tug is now playing it's final chapter. The country is ripe for change in Status quo. What it means is that current Landlord RAPE leadership will have to go. Army for a long time has been playing bothe sides. On one hand sleeping with Landed gentry and on the other hand financing / training the Mullah inspired forces. And as stated earlier by me and many other members, Army is slowly shifting the Paradigm in the favour of the Mullahs.

The figures are clear Pakistan cannot continue to be a viable state at the rate of growth and rate of brrowing it is currently following. Time has come a major policy shift. Current RAPE leadership has proven without doubt that it cannot deal with it. What now Army and Mullah's fear is that if the current political structure fails then the vaccum left behind should be immediately filled without Abduls hitting the street. The whole Pakistani state which includes the three players, depends upon the Abduls not being the part of power apparatus. Army will do whatever it takes to ensure that Abduls do not have say in the power politics in future.

Get set for more hit jobs and a massive loan default in next few months. Current RAPE leadership can't hope for any assistance from abroad till Army plays ball. Zardari and Co made a major strategic erorr by not following through with policy of getting ISI and MI under it's direct control. One poke from Kiyani was enough. Instead they could have stood the ground as at that time public support was with them and against the Army. That short term compromise id the long term Waterloo that PPP has to now deal with.

The US Af-Pak Policy in Disarray - G. Parthasarathy
It could well have been a scene from a Sylvester Stallone Rambo thriller. The “good guy” is “Rambo” Raymond Davis, a Special Forces sharpshooter turned CIA agent, sent to eliminate “bad guy” terrorists in a “Major non-NATO Ally”, Pakistan.

Rambo Raymond is followed by two “bad guys” through the shady areas of Lahore, on January 27. The “bad guys” are actually ISI Agents assigned to trail Rambo Raymond, who has been eliminating the ISI's Jihadi and Taliban assets in Pakistani terrorist badlands, including in the tribal areas, straddling the Afpak borders.

The ISI stalkers draw their pistols and move towards Rambo Raymond's car. Rambo Raymond draws his six-shooter and brings down the two bad guys. He radios for help and an American Consulate car rushes towards the scene, with the rescuers running over a pedestrian while driving the wrong way, on a one-way street. Rambo is overpowered and jailed. All hell breaks loose between the two “major non-NATO Allies”.

The American version of the status of Rambo Raymond is that he holds a Diplomatic Passport and was issued a visa, being designated a “regional affairs officer”— a euphemism for his being a CIA operative, with his background known to the hosts. He was also listed as “administrative and technical staff” which entitles him to diplomatic immunity. According to the Pakistanis, Davis is actually an employee of Private Security Agency, Hyperion Protective Consultants.

Oddly, while the Americans claimed Rambo is an embassy employee, the State Department spokesman described him as a “(Lahore) Consulate Employee.” Amidst these flip-flops by the Obama Administration, former Foreign Minister, Mr Shah Mehmood Qureshi, joined issue immediately after he lost his job. Qureshi claimed that his Ministry had carried out a detailed study and concluded that Rambo Raymond was not entitled to diplomatic immunity.

PAKISTAN'S INTERNAL POLITICS

These developments came at a time when Pakistan's politics had reached new levels of volatility. The Zardari government in Islamabad does not want hassles in relations with the Americans. The issue would have been settled and Davis quietly repatriated to the US if the incident had taken place in the Federal Capital Area, where President Zardari controls the Police. But, Lahore is not the Federal Capital. The Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Shahbaz Sharif, has shown no inclination of making life easy for President Zardari.
{Absolutely. Besides, the Lahore High Court is terrorism supporting anyway}
After easing President Zardari's PPP out of the ruling coalition in Punjab, he will move to get his brother Mr Nawaz Sharif back as Pakistan's Prime Minister. Mr Nawaz knows that his PML (N) will sweep the polls in any national election. The Sharif brothers also have no inhibitions in being seen to be supportive of the growing anti-Americanism in Pakistan. Mr Shahbaz has funded Mr Hafiz Saeed's Jamaat-ud-Dawa after it was declared an international terrorist organisation.

The Punjab Police swiftly arrested and charged Davis for murder, knowing that the judiciary headed by Chief Justice, Iftikhar Ahmed Chaudhury, is virulently anti-Zardari. The Lahore High Court has deferred the case till March 14. In the meantime, Rambo Raymond sleeps in a Lahore jail, despite assertions by President Obama himself that he enjoys diplomatic immunity and should be released.

Stirring this boiling cauldron is the all-powerful General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and his ever-loyal ISI Chief, Lt. General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, now under extension. There has been no love lost between the CIA and the ISI in recent days. Rambo Raymond was undermining the ISI by establishing his own links to eliminate the jihadis in the Pashtun tribal areas along the Afpak border.{It means that Rambo Raymond was indeed getting coordinates of the jihadi hideouts for drone attacks}

The army quietly joined the chorus seeking to push the Americans to a corner and force them to offer concessions, even though General Kayani does not exactly love fellow Punjabi, Mr Nawaz Sharif. What the Americans, like some in South Block have failed to acknowledge, is that Gen. Kayani believes that the Americans need Pakistan just now more than Pakistan needs the Americans. He evidently feels that the Americans will blink first, which they show every inclination of doing, in this standoff.

US REALISATION

The Rambo Raymond affair is a manifestation of the larger malaise affecting the transactional American Pakistan relationship. Thanks to some adept diplomacy by India, the Obama Administration soon gave up the thoughtless proposal mooted by Pakistani author, Ahmed Rashid, that it should actively involve itself in meddling on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir by appointing Bill Clinton as a Special Envoy.

Moreover, its initial honeymoon with China soon led to estrangement, accentuated by the global economic downturn. The realisation dawned in Washington that India would be a useful partner in fashioning an inclusive Asian architecture for security and co-operation.

Terrorist safe havens in Pakistan cannot be eliminated unless the US reduces its dependence on Pakistani logistical support and fashions alternative arrangements with Russia and Afghanistan's Central Asian neighbours. Only then can the international community evolve viable policies for governance within Afghanistan and ensure that Afpak borders are no longer what Admiral Mullen called “the epicentre of global terrorism”.

You know history tells us that whenever Pakistan is about to be flushed down the toilet, Some geo-strategic events just sucks them back into the toilet bowl. So I am not holding my breath for the popcorn-beer fest.
The state of Pakistan is not going to wither away so soon. As usual TSPians will find another Mullah Omar for themselves and follow him till thy kingdom come. As I always says, Pakistan will not die until India moves in for the kill.

indeed, they are like the occasional large turd that looks heavy and bound to get flushed but somehow has hidden channel of gas inside that resists every attempt to use the cistern flush....BRRRRRRR....the flush handle is pushed to max and bowl grows turbulent, the turd is almost gone for good, but then magically floats back to the surface  finally one grows impatient , grabs a full manual bucket and flushes out both the turd and the old water in the U shaped section of the commode.

Ouch that must have hurt TFTA Mard. He has brought shame to the Proud, Bakistani Kaum. Had it been Mughlaiya Sultanate, he would have got his revenge in a group attack.

He is Wajib-ul-cuttle
