^^^Which is why unkil is soooo keen on rapprochement of sorts b/w TSP and Dilli. Pak tactical brilliance can, even now, spark a war dilli maynot want and one that will wipe-out TSP as we know today. Ukil's hyper-eager to avoid THAT outcome above all at all costs. Perhaps.

CRS,

Buddy don't feel so dejected. India is a country of 1.2 billion people and they are bound to be fools amongst us. There will always be some people who will think otherwise. Say suppose (hypothetically) saying that we were to nuke Pukes out of existence, there still will be bunch of people who will continue to think and espouse views as to how evil Indian military, security and govt machinery is to do that to pukes long after puke land is no more.

An example being, one can see that some people still tell how morally wrong it is for land of Gandhi to possess nukes. I used to get angry and have blood boiling over such fools and their perceptions, but have realized the best way to go about is to voice the counter (right) view as passionately and with logical arguments Let masses choose. Have faith in Indian mass. And do your best to educate them by all means.

CRamS wrote:I don't know about the rest of the world including US, but its only India that faces an existential threat from TSP. For US, TSP terror is a threat to the extent that it can declare victory and preserve its H&D (one up over the Russians) and run away.

The equation India is confronted with visa vi TSP is dire. And its only India thas has got to find a solution, the rest of the world has no dog in TSP's obsession to destroy India. And if you have elite pukes in delhi like that lunatic b%^&*h who draws a moral equivalence between Paki murderous assualt in Mumbai with TSP and Talibunny internecine slaughter, India can be destroyed without much of a fight with TSP.
CRS, I do concur with you on the following: India does face a massive terror threat (I won't call it an existential threat even with their nukes), it is India and India alone that must sort out Pakistan, and people like Ms. Bharve completely queer the pitch.

However, I do not believe that Pakistan is *not* a terror threat to the US or the rest of the world. Pakistanis have been involving in terrorism from Philippines in the east to US/Canada in the west, from Scandinavian countries up north to new Zealand down south. I am not sure if you have seen this (slightly dated) terror map.

There are four distinct groups operating within Pakistan today, three of them under a united leadership while one is undergoing a metamorphosis. Among the three with a common leadership, one wants to focus on global jihad especially against the Americans, while the other two on their immediate objectives in the region, namely India and Afghanistan. The two with the local focus however do share the idea of global jihad. All three consider the present setup in Pakistan as not conducive and are working together to seize that country. The fourth group which is currently undergoing the change would take the Pakistani Army with it to the camp of the other three whenever the change becomes complete. It is not the question of 'if' but 'when'. There is no ideologically insurmountable divide that separates the two groups, but only some historical events. Pakistanis are hoping that Insh'a All'ah, the change will happen soon and minds will meet quickly so that Salafi, Wahhabi, Deobandi and Ahl-e-Hadith forces can espouse a common cause and take Pakistan to the pinnacle of its glory and achieve the dreams of its founding fathers.

CRS et al. re the Barves and her ilk.

I think you should see these people in the context of paid lobbyists. Think about how many ret General (VP Malik), Admirals (Ramdas) etc are in the 'peace business'. Their retirement benefits are not generous and they can't really get a job in a related field (milInd) so they appear on stage to do the Aman ki Asha crap. OPen question is who's paying them. Hint it's not unkil. It's the Pakis and the Chinis. This lot can be bought and they are. Nothing really ideological to begin with, as time goes on, they overlook the source and start to believe.

In the US, you must register as a foreign lobbyist if you're taking funds from abroad and espousing a political view. I believe the NDA tried to do something similar but got shot down thanks to 'coalition politics'

Ramdas and wife are loaded.

In such a free loading crowd, it's usually a luxury and all expenses first class paid for "aman". Asha usually comes for free for the morons who populate this nether world. Juicy photos in plenty must be filed away at ISI offices, of oldies puffing and panting away.

Lecturing fees and other easy pickings ease the rigors of retired life, with shady NGOs picking up the tabs. It's amazing how many such geezers have been taken on as "consultants". You can see many of them being wined and dined at expensive watering holes.

Ramdas's son in law is paki so the motivation is not so difficult to see. This daughter married whilst Ramdas was still in active service.

Man gets 15 years for shipping paintball pellets
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — For the third time in the last five years, a judge has sentenced a former Maryland schoolteacher to 15 years in prison for supporting a Pakistani terror group.

U.S. District Judge Claude Hilton had twice sentenced Ali Asad Chandia to 15 years in prison for helping a leader of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist group ship 50,000 paintball pellets from the U.S. to Pakistan.

Twice a federal appeals court tossed out the sentence, ruling that Hilton did not articulate the justification for such a harsh term.

At Friday’s hearing, Hilton said the evidence showed that Chandia knew that Lashkar was a terrorist group and that he willingly lent his support.

Clinton warns against U.S. abandonment of Pakistan
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned against abandoning Pakistan again as she urged Capitol Hill to back the administration’s request for assistance for key allies including Islamabad.“We are trying to deepen our relationship. There are many challenges confronting us, but we know what happens when we walk away from Pakistan. We did it before, and the results, unfortunately, were quite dire for us,” she told lawmakers in a testimony before a House Appropriations Committee. In Pakistan, she said, the United States “continues to demonstrate its commitment to an enduring strategic partnership focused on economic, military and police assistance to help root out extremists and support other critical investments.”

Its jumma and heavens have also decided to take a power play here. Unfortunately it was a dud

Small earthquake jolts northwest Pakistan
KARACHI: A light earthquake of magnitude 4.8 jolted northwest Pakistan near the border with Afghanistan on Friday but there were no immediate reports of casualties, an official said.

The quake struck at 4:32 pm (1132 GMT) with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush mountain range, chief meteorologist Mohammad Riaz told AFP.

Tremors were felt in several cities in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its capital, Peshawar, he said.

The small quake hit a few hours after a devastating 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit Japan on Friday and triggered tsunami alerts across the Pacific ocean.

Pakistan was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake on October 8, 2005 that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless, mainly in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

CRS, Calm down and use spell check. I am afraid you will get a fit. India doesnt face an existential threat from TSP. Its a terrorist threat. And is allowed as one can't take them out while they are under US protection. Meanhwile their acts are getting more an more egregious that US has to protet its own uimmage of 'credible' netural global cop. That image is taking a beating with every TSP found with terrorist links expecially when one realizes that US is funding the TSP which does nothing about such terrorists.

Chetak, OT but how is Ramdas and his wife loaded? Maybe answer in OT thread? I thought he married Katari's daugther. Katari was an upright middle class officer. So where is the load coming from?

Pakistan to extend term of spy chief - report
Pakistan's government will extend the term of the head of its main intelligence agency to ensure continuity at a time of pressing security problems, a Pakistani newspaper reported on Friday. Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, director general of the military's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, is due to retire this month but will remain in office, perhaps for two more years, the Dawn newspaper said. Pasha, a former head of military operations for the army, was appointed head of the ISI in September 2008, at a time when U.S. officials questioned the reliability of the spy agency in the campaign against Islamist militancy.

At least 6 killed and several vehicles torched in Karachi, Pakistan protests
At least six people were killed and three others injured overnight in Karachi, Pakistan after protests turned violent following the Supreme Court's decision to dismiss Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau Justice Deedar Hussain Shah, local media reported Friday.

At least 13 vehicles were torched, while shootings were reported in Karachi's Garden, Sachal Goth, and Malir areas, the Express Tribune reported. Angry protesters also indiscriminately fired against shops in the Sindh metroplois, causing panic throughout the area.

Protesters also attacked public transportation routes, as at least two buses were torched at the Boat Basin and in Ranchore Lines.

Violence prompted schools, public transportation, shops, and gas stations in Karachi to shut down.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Chief Altaf Hussain from London expressed grief over the incidents, calling for the people of Karachi to remain calm.

PM issues new security guidelines for ministers
According to the prime minister’s secretariat, in the new guidelines, the federal cabinet ministers had been advised to strictly follow the security rules.

“They should not leave their house or work without security clearances nor should ministers make changes, withdraw or draw down the security provided to them by state. They should instead leave this to the institutions providing them security.”

It was also made clear in the guideline that if ministers do not follow the security rules then ‘they’ alone would be responsible for the consequences.

So you have no problem calling a public figure wahji-bull-cattle even for a dustbin, but when asked to provide some detail, you hide behind "not on a public forum"?

No problemo. Its all scripted only. As if the napak senate something commie-tea has any authority at all in the land of distilled purity.

Cheena will find ways to force 'em subs down poor pak navy's throat, what is poor pak navy to do only, eh? Of course, PRC isn't into freebies, so in return for some non-monetary quid-pro-quo perhaps.

Meanwhile, PRC will also show bewafa unkil how to force gifts down the throats of an unwilling/unable papistan. How sweet.

Death of State ? - Khaled Ahmed
What we are witnessing in Pakistan is the gradual demise of the state in the face of terrorism which traditionally depends, not on its fighting strength but on its ability to create fear. Intimidation is the key word: the West called it the Stockholm Syndrome, which is a mixture of fear and the tendency of the scared to empower himself by identifying with the tormentor. We can call it the Swat Syndrome where people, abandoned in the clutches of a cruel, beheading warlord, simply joined him. The state is experiencing the same kind of transformation, and that includes the establishment, the executive branch like the police, the lower judiciary and the political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).

The media is more vulnerable because it is up-front and is seen by Al Qaeda through its interpreters among the Taliban and their minions in Punjab. The TV anchor is scared of taking sides in a showdown where everyone sides with the terrorist. He is helped in his abdication by the abdication of the pillars of the state itself. The Urdu media (TV and Urdu newspapers) has a discourse diametrically opposed to the English-language print media where fears of the impending collapse of the state are being expressed by young writers and bloggers.
He then goes ahead to give a sampling of how the Urdu press has described & analyzed the Bhatti murder.

Pakistan gunmen torch NATO tanker
Gunmen attacked three oil tankers carrying supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan on Saturday, officials said.

The gunmen intercepted the tankers carrying fuel destined for NATO forces in Afghanistan, setting one of them on fire and puncturing two others causing the oil to leak, senior police official Javed Shah said.

The tankers were attacked in Bolan district, some 70 kilometres east of Quetta, the capital of restive Baluchistan province.

There were no casualties and local security officials confirmed the incident.

NATO trucks and oil tankers are frequently targeted by arson attacks blamed on insurgents attempting to disrupt two key supply lines that cross western Pakistan bound for foreign troops fighting in neighbouring Afghanistan.

Most supplies and equipment for coalition troops in Afghanistan are shipped through Pakistan, although US troops are increasingly using alternative routes through central Asia.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, rockets fired by suspected militants killed six members of a family.

A rocket hit a house in Khairdin village, some 430 kilometres south-east of Quetta, early on Saturday morning, killing a couple and their four children.

"A man, a woman and their four children were killed when a rocket hit their house," Mr Shah said.

"Apparently the rocket was fired by miscreants," he added, referring to tribal rebels who have waged an insurgency to demand more autonomy over region's natural resources like oil, gas and minerals.

"We are investigating the incident."

Neither is true. The retirement benefits are generous. And they can get plum jobs.

But let me speak of the retiremet benefits in the context of the discussion we have been having on the "US and Vhina in Pakistan" therad.

Because the Pakistan army is supported and kept aiive, India has to maintain a wide variety of standing military and paramilitary forces ranging from army to other central forces. every one of these men have to be given a pension and health benefits for them and their families for life. It irritates me to see voluntarily blind people "excusing" the US for supplying arms to Pakistan that require India to respond in this manner. It's not just about wars. You can't have an effective force without perks and benefits including retirement benefits. But, I am told "It's OK for the US to supply F-16s, NVGs etc to Pakistan. It makes no difference to us." That is sophistry of the first order.

Public reaction to Taseer killing depicts the real Pakistan
Celebration of former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer's assassination and garlanding of his murderer Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri with roses by hundreds of lawyers depicts the real Pakistan, Pak Institute for Peace Studies Director Amir Muhammad Rana has said.

"The Pakistan we saw in the wake of Taseer's killing is the real Pakistan," the Time magazine quoted Rana, as saying.
"They might dress Western and eat at McDonald's, but when it comes to religion, most Pakistanis have a very conservative mind-set," he added.

Neither is true. The retirement benefits are generous. And they can get plum jobs.
1. They are in the 'peace business'. Check it out.

http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/sou ... 99157.html''

"V.P. Malik, India’s former army chief and Jehangir Karamat, a former Pakistani general, have been among the active members of the track-two diplomacy. Other members include India’s Congress leaders Mani Shankar Aiyar and Jairam Ramesh, and Tariq Aziz, former secretary of Pakistan’s National Security Council. He was also an advisor to former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf.

"Salman Haidar, former foreign secretary, Prem Shankar Jha, writer & analyst, Amitabh Mattoo, professor, international relations, JNU, Admiral (Retd) K. Nayyer, and Admiral (Retd) Ramdas (Chairperson Emeritus of the Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy).

2. The Army retirement benefits can be found here

How 'plum' are they compared to private sector Paki Generals? Post- Kargil and after his retirement, VPM was interviewed by (I forget which) NYT or WAPO "sitting on his bed, in his tee shirt in his modest bungalow'. Not exactly Corpse Commando stuff is it? (Mush bought a London flat for $45 million)

3. That still does not answer the question of where Ramdas got his money....

I would guess the 'peace lobbies' recruit heavily among retired Generals/Admirals--those who don't make it to Governorships of states are special targets. It starts with flattery of him, listening to the tale of financial strictures from the wife and a helping hand on the promotion/employment of offspring.

Look, there's a parallel in every field. Look at Anil Kumar (McKinsey) who made $1mm plus--generous retirement packages followed by plum positions on board and consulting offers. And see what happened:

The 'Duchess of Windsor' famously stated, "You can never be too rich or too thin." (well Rajaratnam got it half right)
