It is tough call regarding Dhoni. He batted (wasted) 42 balls and scored 25 (@ SR 59.52). He was definitely slow, but he briefly held the team together with Tendulkar. Sachin and Dhoni had to play slow to avoid a real collapse. Dhoni scored mostly singles, but he gave many dot balls, another 5-7 runs from those dot balls would have inched our score towards more respectability.

Kohli, again gave lots of dot balls. So in the finals, Kohli and Dhoni have to get their act together :-) GG should be dropped.

^^ time to start shivering in a nearby corner, given we have to defend a 260 total with soda pop "pacers" like Nehra and Munna ( can safely add 20 runs to each of their tally on account of their (non) fielding skills)

I feel the trick will be in not allowing more then 6 runs an over in first 3 power plays. a soft old ball will be hard to score off on this pitch. Immediate goal to restrict pakis to less then 90 and take away one or two wickets which would be bonus.

Let us not discount the pitch. There was already a mention of how two-paced the pitch is.
Boss when India bats it is always a bowling Pitch, When opponents Bat it suddenly tuens into a Batting Pitch, havent we seen so many times in the past.

I will belive there is somthing in this Pitch inly if Pakis lose 3 or 4 wickets before the 10th over.

Kamran Akmal looks in fine touch he has smashed a boundaryy of the first ball

Kohli was a bit tense today. The worse thing is that most of our players got out playing defensive shots. Yuvraj played across a full ball, Kohli of a leading edge, Dhoni and Sehwag to LBWs. GG is hyper and not surprised that he got out stumped. Wish Sehwag had the luck of God today. Thanks to God's scrappy 80, Sehwags 38 and Raina, we got to 260.

Dew is a supposed to be a major factor for dropping Ashwin. Dew will help the ball come on to the bat and spinners will struggle to grip the ball. MChd went by history over current form. 3 seamers for Mohali or giving the last over to Nehra was based on history and not on current form. It may come back to haunt us. But MChD is a media darling. Except for Times now occasionally, media has been very supportive of him. Look at the cricinfo preview article today.

I'm not sure about Ankit's maths here: "260 is not a bad score actually. Add 10 to it because of the pressure of a World Cup semi-final. Add another 15 to it because India's fielding will save that many. And add another 15 to it because of the pressure of both country's Prime Minister's watching. So it all adds up to a total of 300! Well done, India."
True that!

I mean seriously, bhaat ij the problem with the coach hain ji?

Are TI's bowlers only for bowling?
Considering that they get plenty of opportunity to bat when TI goes out to bat (thanks to our glorious batting line up), shouldn't the coach teach them some basic skills and impart some spinal level intelligence?

1. If there is a genuine batsman at the other end and there are still 4-5 overs to go, the tailender is supposed to give the strike to the batsman. The tailender is allowed to go after a ball only if he believes that he will be able to connect it from the middle of the bat.
2. Surely the coach can give them that akkal no?
3. The way Nehra got run out, it seems the guy doesn't even watch someone running between the wickets. No concept of grounding the bat when running to the danger end. The guy practically just kept on running and wielded the bat in the air like it was Hanuman-ji's gada.
4. MS Dhoni's batting style (or lack of it) was on plenty of display. The way he was forced to keep shut by the paki spinners shows. A batsman with a weak technique will get exposed if a good spinner comes along and we are not in the slog overs. MSD was hard pressed to even take singles!

MMS is going to watch the whole match???

Does ANY PM of India have so much time at hand to watch a full cricket match these days hain ji?

Sure hope that the PMO has a secure communications set up at the stadium and the babus have a lot of files there for him to look at. Since Sonia G, Rahul G, Sharad Pawar are also present, they could hold a party meet right there, or even a cabinet meet.

Not so fast we need at least 4 such overs in tandem to build pressure so that Pakraoches collapse like a pack of cards.

We needed to use playing at home to our advantage.

This match should have been at Eden Gdns - lets see how the opposition batsmen play when they can't even hear themselves think because of 90,000 home fans.

The atmosphere here does not sound too great. (or am I just looking for excuses?). It's too 'friendly' and good natured.
