Re: The Cricket Thread
I got my last 3 predictions right about WI, Aus and TSP and something in me says we are gonna lift the cup this time. So I am very confident of winning the exhibition match (Final was played today and we won).
Re: The Cricket Thread
c'mon swamy. they are opponents who we shall fight with honour and in the fields and let the village be.
why go the paki rout and call the opponents kaffirs and torment the hapless village?

Re: The Cricket Thread
Pakistan got 275+ against the Lankans, we should be able to get 300+. That should be enough to win against them.

More from me later, but briefly, India must devise a strtagey to tackle Lasit Malinga who chucks blinding yorkers
. Perhaphs our guys deserve a few beers and a night out with their significant others, but come AM tomorrow, the strtagegizing & preparation should begin. Even getting bowlers like Murli, Herath, and Mendis won't be easy as Ajmal and Hafeez showed today.

has anyone noticed sonia gandhi clapping and raising the victory fist in air after last wicket of misbah fell?
Re: The Cricket Thread
I did not notice that!Still, the rivalry-driven emotions of each country were reflected in the televised images of each leader as it became clear toward the end of the match that India had won. Mr. Singh was clapping, while Mr. Gilani sat grim and silent. India will play the Sri Lanka in the final match in Mumbai on Saturday.

1. I did not call them people names, just the 2 chuckers.shaardula wrote:c'mon swamy. they are opponents who we shall fight with honour and in the fields and let the village be.

2. When did Srilanka ever treat India nicely for us to treat them equally?
3. I do not even ridicule Pakistan, why would I ridicule Srilanka, though their actions ever since their independence is anything but noteworthy. Let us not even get there

Re: The Cricket Thread
round arm is a valid legal bowling action. there have been players in the past who used round arm action. only we have not seen such bowlers on tv. full marks to malinga for re-discovering it for himself. with so much cricket and coaching around and easily available these days, there is a serious danger of lot of cookie cutter bookish players. cricket is only richer because of unschooled people like malinga.
and murali has shown, with rigid casts on, how he bowls - just as good. i dont care what aussies say.
and note, bowling is more than chucking. even if every bowler is allowed to chuck, very few international level bowlers can do what murali does. forget international you cant get buchi babu level batsmen out based purely on the amount of spin you get. batsmen dont get out because the ball is turning at odd angles. they get out because they fail to anticipate what the bowler is going to do next. that is people like even ``chuckers'' like murali dont get a wicket every ball they bowl. they have to first prep the batsman and then when he is least expecting and on command bowl that wicket taking ball.
watch the stump camera views carefully. you will see how the best batsmen select their stroke at the moment of release of the ball ,before the ball has traveled any distance in air.

Re: The Cricket Thread
While reviewing the highlights, when the Pakis were around 100 for 2, the commentators called them the favorites now. They lost two wickets within five runs. Jinx Jinx Jinx.
Re: The Cricket Thread
ok anyways, SHQ is making a special dinner, coz MSD and Co prevented the pakis from going to mumbai. she follows no sport. i convinced her it would be unjust if tsp ended up in mumbai. that is all she knows.
meanwhile i learned today that my captain is a WKK. had a longish discussion with him. all my life i have stood by my captains whether or not i was in the playing 11. But this guy is disappointing. He is a spineless WKK who is pandering to the two easily replaced paki players in our team and only there for the novelty. Honest to god, I love saeed ajmal and mohammed amir and have nothing against individual paki players. But my captain is an ass. I'm quitting my cricket club. I'm not even going to be a drink boy, which i have done for a long time.

Pakistan 208-9 (Gul LBW b Nehra 2)
Re: The Cricket Thread
just finished watching the highlights
Phew! Thank god I didn't watch the match live...
Gawd would have given me a heart attack if I had watched it live....
In the Indian innings after Sehwag was gone, India never could seize back control of the match.
I think the pakis were under tremendous pressure looking at the amount of misfields and dropped catches.
Although it looked a comfortable win in the end it really wasn't....I had a paki sitting right next to me at work streaming the match on his desktop.....it was funny watching his emotions as the match progressed
Nobody else at work was interested as the white boys had been booted out of the competition already.....
I wish I could go to the nearest paki restaurant in town which advertises "Indian Pakistani Cuisine" and scream losers at them.....but, I am holding back otherwise I will be wajib-e-cuttled

shaardula: If I did not think those two were good at whatever they were doing, why would I be concerned? Why would I call them out, huh? It is pre-match trash talking on my part. So your read of my post is off the mark - like Tait's bowling

Syed Ahmad of Pakistan says… Today at 6:08 AM India would have lost if the match was not fixed. There were loud rumors even when the 2nd semifinal hasn't been decided. This Pakistani cricket team is a bunch of match fixers and nothing else. Take a few facts about today's match: Umar Gul conceded 69 runs in 8 overs. Even I don't bowl that many fulltoses for neighbourhood team and if I ever do my captain would seriously rebuke me. Then 6 catches were dropped by different fielders. How come? Then Hafeez, Shafiq and Younis got out themselves at a stage when they had to stay. Afridi got himself out and he looks like a 10 years old kid playing cricket in a park. Last but not the least they didn't take batting power play at all. I don't know how to handle all these controversies if I am in a team management of such a pethatic team but I have serious doubts the way they play their cricket and its only about game integrity... may be we need another News of the World revelation to bring few other facts about this team. No one really wants to play with them now.

Only in pukistan:
Special prayers were offered in mosques and at homes across the country and people recited verses from the Koran praying to Allah to guide the Pakistani team to the victory.
Even prison authorities in Karachi made special arrangements for the inmates to watch the match and gave Indian team shirts to some 200 Indian prisoners to support their team, prison officials said.
"We have set up screens in all jails and in Malir jail where there are some 200 Indian prisoners and given them the shirts of the Indian team," prisons chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo told AFP.
Tribesmen in Pakistan's restive North Waziristan were even cleaning their guns and collecting explosives for celebratory fire in preparation for their beloved Pakistan beating India.

I have no doubt that Sonia is patriotic towards India. She's lived in India since 1968 and women have amazing powers of adjusting to the lives and tastes of their husbands. I bet she feels alien in Italy now.And she looked genuinely happy too.
Re: The Cricket Thread
come on guys.. naturalization is good enough for any one to accept citizenship, and for that matter marrying the numero uno person of India means something!
there are many desis in the khan land, where citizenship by naturalization, alone will not relinquish ownership and relationship to mother India. Similarly, any person being born in one country, can't lose that from memory altogether.
So take it from that perspective.

Al Capone was a huge fan of Babe Ruth, he truly enjoyed baseball games, a real American patriot.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Sonia's choice of citizenship is her personal matter and I care a FF as to what she does with it, however what is a matter of concern is how chootiy@s in India can buy into 'desh ki bahu' and similar senti crap and override fundamental constitutional protocols before voting/supporting a candidate.

^^ AoA...we won onlee ( couldn't log into BR after the match as was completely drained after the roller coaster)
Thank God the Pakis didnt reach Mumbai and TI gave them the 72 in Mohali itself.
Was it only me or did Munna look super charged throughout the match? The man was virtually jumping up and down the whole match and cheering every fielding effort, doing some smart fielding himself, mouthing off against a lot of the Pakis and generally, celebrating like no tomorrow with every wicket!!!
Have NEVER seen Munna so active in any match before.... Wonder what was the trick which made him super-charged?

Rumors will start that Puki playahs threw the match away to earn goodwill so that they can play in IPL.
