"Taken out" as in killed or as in bundled in to a helo?

Today DNA profiling is an extensive lab procedure and portable Rapid DNA kits don't exist. (Sep 2010)

http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/0 ... lysis.html
One of the fastest DNA turnarounds to date in a big British investigation was achieved in the case of the Ipswich prostitute murders in 2006. A team from the Forensic Science Service (FSS) was on duty around the clock, analysing material from the five bodies and the places where they were found.

Despite the intensive effort, it took three days from swabs from the body of Anneli Alderton, the third victim, being submitted to a laboratory to the confirmation of a match with Steve Wright, the killer. Wright, whose DNA profile was on the database after a conviction for theft, is serving life for the murders. (July 2009)

Is there any government statement from the US indicating a DNA test was done?

I am sure that burial at sea is announced, but might be awaiting go ahead after DNA confirmation.

OBL must have been roaming freely inside the high wall compound, in plain view of Global Hawk and Satellites.
That is what the US meant by In plain view.

No outsiders would have been able to see it.

What exactly does burial at sea mean here? Corpse put into a metal box with deadweights and sunk or boulders being tied to the corpse with rope. The first option would make sure that the corpse remains constrained and does not float to the surface.

More Pak loving from sec state clinton. Yawn.

Apparently Satellites had eyes on target before operation launched. Jammed Radar. audible but was not visible on jee radar.

And confirmed from a journo - Pak (and no other country) had not been briefed about operation until after.

Pranav, those are news agencies quoting sources... Unless we have a government official stating this in public, we have no GOTUS confirmation that a DNA test was done. These sources might not know themselves, as is often the case with people ever ready to talk to the media and could very well be speculating about the method of identification. It is highly unlikely that this sort of information is disseminated down the chart that quickly. It is less than a day so far since the event. Of course, the sleeping with the fishes story might be just that - a story.

Of course, we can speculate that it was not Bin Ladin at all, or that he was killed much earlier, or whatever you are suggesting.

Why some people on this forum are hell bent on proving paki toe line that pakis were involved in this op. It was repeatedly confirmed by BBC, CNN and pakis own govt that this op was done wholely by US forces. The fact that it took so much time for paki govt to come out officially to give a statement indicates what state of shock they went in.

Of course, the place where he was killed and where his soul ascended to heaven on winged swine, with canine outriders, will undoubtedly become a shrine to the Martyr Osama Bin Ladin, to be visited for centuries to come by devout Pakisatans and others, to seek blessings before they send out their children to madrassahs to graduate with a degree in suicide bombing.

A must read from SSS: All peace treaties with Pak mil are off and guys in NWFP ready to go to war with TSP. Lets see if true.

Osama's al-Qaeda ready for a fight
By Syed Saleem Shahzad

ISLAMABAD - Command of al-Qaeda will be taken over by a select handful of leaders who had been chosen in advance of the death of Osama bin Laden, who was killed on Monday morning in a strike by Pakistani and American special forces on a compound in Abbottabad, about 65 kilometers north of the Pakistani capital Islamabad.

The death of the 54-year-old Bin Laden, who had a US$50 million reward on his head, is also likely to mark the beginning of a shift of the war theater from Afghanistan to Pakistan, al-Qaeda insiders tell Asia Times Online.

Asia Times Online contacts in the North Waziristan tribal area - a militant hotbed - confirmed that several meetings had already been convened in the town of Mir Ali to formulate strategies. They all confirmed an immediate and fierce retaliation against Pakistan and the breaking up of all ceasefire agreements with the Pakistan military.

The US had been on Bin Laden's trail ever since he fled Afghanistan when American forces invaded the country in 2001 to oust the Taliban in retaliation for the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York and Washington; Bin Laden and al-Qaeda planned the attacks while guests of the Taliban.

"I can report to the American people and to the world, that the US has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden," President Barack Obama, also the US commander-in-chief, said from the White House. "After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body," Obama said. "The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation's efforts to defeat al-Qaeda."

It his believed one of his sons, two of his wives and many aides were killed in the raid, which included helicopter gunships.

Bin Laden's death was confirmed by Pakistani intelligence. Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha, the director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), said the ISI had been aware of the operation and was part of the whole process.

The US has put all its embassies on alert, warning Americans of al-Qaeda reprisal attacks. This corresponds with information obtained by Asia Times Online that Bin Laden's death is likely to revive international terror operations against Western capitals that had been frozen following the great Arab 2011 revolt.

Late last month, Bin Laden warned that al-Qaeda would unleash a "nuclear hellstorm" if he were captured, according to classified diplomatic documents released by WikiLeaks.

Obama said that the Central Intelligence Agency had been closer on Bin Laden's trail since October 2010 and that he had been visible on intelligence radars early this year, something that was exclusively reported by Asia Times Online:
After a prolonged lull, the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has launched a series of covert operations in the rugged Hindu Kush mountains of Pakistan and Afghanistan following strong tip-offs that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been criss-crossing the area in the past few weeks for high-profile meetings in militant redoubts. ( Bin Laden sets alarm bells ringing March 25.)
The next steps
Following the upheavals in the Middle East and North Africa, Bin Laden had been spurred into action to create unity within the Islamist cadre of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the Afghan battle against the Americans. For this reason, he recently traveled to Pakistan to meet with Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the legendary Afghan mujahid and founder and leader of the Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan political party and paramilitary group, and many other top jihadi leaders. He is believed to have shifted to Abbottabad about 10 days ago and was about to move again, sources told Asia Times Online.

They said that al-Qaeda's leadership shura (council), would run the organization and a new chief would be decided later. A new generation of commanders includes Sirajuddin Haqqani, Qari Ziaur Rahman, Nazir Ahmad and Ilyas Kashmiri, who have joined forces with al-Qaeda.

Over the past few years, Bin Laden had become more of a popular iconic figure than a nuts and bolts leader - most organizational policies were run by his deputy, Egyptian Dr Ayman al-Zawahiri, and other ideologues. Therefore, operational mechanisms can be expected to remain the same.

On the basis of interaction with top al-Qaeda leaders, this correspondent has no doubt in predicting that Operation Osama Bin Laden marks the beginning of a shift of the main war theater from Afghanistan to Pakistan and that all previous efforts for reconciliation between Pakistani militants and Pakistan will be sabotaged and all guns will turn towards the Pakistani military establishment.

Syed Saleem Shahzad is Asia Times Online's Pakistan Bureau Chief and author of upcoming book Inside al-Qaeda and the Taliban, beyond 9/11 published by Pluto Press, UK. He can be reached at [email protected]

Guys, I am getting somewhat worried over all these reports of TSP not being informed, not cooperating, siding with the Jihadi's etc.,

This is positively harmful....

What we want is for all inside TSP to believe that they indeed cooperated with unkil, indeed betrayed OBL's gPS coordinates and indeed played a role...then the fun is doubled.

We have to convert the tabla to a mridangam gives better music.

The Concrete Mary looks to be the apt type for disposing of a criminal, over time barnacles, barracuda & sea anemones will eat away the exposed corpse, with molluscs making their homes in the hollows.

The sea casket looks too well adorned and ceremonial to be used in this instance.

Gaganullah,

I see some merit in this. Per my sources (highly classified) -

USA and Pakistan Govt were aware of OBL's whereabouts since the beginning of GWOT. They decided to keep OBL under house arrest so they can continue with their GWOT as planned.

Indian intelligence agencies were able to track down OBL's exact location early this year. They have been planning a special ops mission to kill OBL and expose USA and Pakistan perfidy.

That is why India went along with GCC plan to move 20K+ Pakistani army to GCC area, so it will reduce the risk of Paki retaliation after the planned cross-border raid.

When USA pressed GoI on why they rejected F-16 and F-18 from MMRCA deal, someone in GoI leaked to USA that it is because of this OBL finding and exposure of USA perfidy.

USA did not have any option but to orchestrate a quick raid on that Abbotabad compound to kill OBL themselves before Indians could do. It is also believed that KSA has agreed to declare OBL a non-muslim, if there is a mass outrage across muslim world against this USA operation.

That helicopter crashed when it hit the electricity lines going over the compound.

The same source also informed that RAW has detailed knowledge of the whereabouts of Mohammad Azar, Hafeez Saeed, and Dawood Ibrahim and Indian cross border raids will happen sometime in next 6-12 months; before the announcement of mid-term elections in India.

We have to see if Pakistan army can handle such a coordinated raid to capture/kill those three assets by India. The insider says that Pakistan may call back its troops from GCC area.

As a consequence of this development Bahrain is expected to fall in to Shia hands. Iran will give up its nuke dreams in return for a nuke umbrella by Russia. India-Russia-Iran will support a free Afghanistan, coinciding with USA withdrawal. It is also believed that PRC will be kicked out of this big boy game as it is yet to prove its capabilities w.r.t protecting its allies. So far PRC hasn't proved its capabilities beyond supplying 1st generation heavy nukes and highly unreliable missile delivery systems to Pakistan and North Korea.

To protect its geopolitical interests, USA is expected to develop at least two bases in Af-Pak border.

In what could come as a big embarrassment for Pakistan's powerful army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden was killed just yards from a military compound that he visited last month where he had famously claimed that his forces had broken the "terrorist backbone".

"The terrorist backbone has been broken and Inshaallah we will soon prevail," Kayani said in his address at a passing out parade at the Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul on April 23 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

Incidentally, Osama was today killed in a highly secured compound just 800 yards away from the academy by the US special forces' personnel
