Hearsay in twitter is that SSS notes and dairies have been confiscated by the goons. They probably knowingly halaled him to send a message to everyone who suddenly started showing symptoms of growing a spine.

In other news, Major Jernail Mohammed Nawaz, the commander of the Punjab Rangers, got his 72 in a helicopter crash.

^^ Why is $#%^ name would ISI so brazenly and openly bump off a internationally known journo when their stock was already at a all-time low? Is it that ISI has decided that $hit has hit the fan( esp w.r.t Unkil) and all caution can be thrown to the winds?

Well,
There are two kinds of consequences, internal and external. The ISI by now doesnt give a rat's musharraf about external consequences. They caught Raymond Davis, they shelter the Haqqani faction under unkil's nose and remember the closing of NATO routes and "non-state actors" suddenly appearing and torching NATO trucks? As far as Unkil is concerned, this is not their fight and wont get involved. Did they suffer any consequence at all for Daniel Pearl's murder? (He was killed by Omar Sheikh Saeed, freed from India after Kandahar hijack and Omar Sheikh Saeed was happily living in DG ISI's house for 2 weeks or so before "surrendering")

As far as "internal" consequences are concerned, everyone has been suddenly reminded who the big boss is and should be browning their shalwars now. That includes politicos like Groper and Nawaz (who wanted a third-party inquiry into OBL raid) right down to journalists who started questioning the army and ISI.

AFP:
Interior Minister Rehman Malik confirmed that a police investigation had been ordered and promised a reward of nearly $30,000.

"Anyone giving us information, evidence or clue about the murder will be given a reward of 2.5 million rupees ($29,410)," he told reporters.

But police officials in Islamabad and where the body was found each told AFP that the investigation was the responsibility of the other.

"Previous enquiries into the murders of journalists have not been made public and it is not clear if the fate of this enquiry would be any different," the Pakistan Press Foundation said in a statement.

[urlhttp://www.rediff.com/cricket/report/shahid-af ... 110601.htm]Hampshire drop Afridi after PCB withdraw NOC[/url]
Pakistan's sacked and retired captain Shahid Afridi [ Images ] suffered a setback on Wednesday when English county Hampshire said it would not be playing the all-rounder in their Twenty20 [ Images ] league after the Pakistan Cricket Board revoked the requisite NOC.

Hampshire, in conjunction with the English and Wales Cricket Board, have decided not to play Afridi and release him from his contract after the PCB revoked all NOC's issued to Afridi to play in foreign leagues.
Angrez also dont have large hearts? :(( :((

Seem to be quite small hearted like the cunning, evil SDREs and not allowing "crowd pulling champions" like TFTA Afridi to play.

sum you are a BRF veteran.

You have yourself been on here where Botx Babe was halaled and you lived through 26/11 with us and we now know the ISI was involved. They are a violent, criminal organization worse than Dawood Ibrahim. They probably thought that what he had to say was worse than a continuing reputation that they are murderers. There are some high up Pakis involved here.

An "International journalist" counts for nothing

^^ True..no point trying to think of rational reasons w.r.t. TSP and TSPA.

Meanwhile, B.Raman on SSS:
ISI worried that Shahzad would expose their terror links
Who killed him -- the Inter-Services Intelligence as it is widely suspected in Pakistan or the 313 Brigade or the two acting in tandem? Next to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba, the 313 Brigade has the closest contacts with the ISI. By virtue of his former association with the SSG, Ilyas is believed to have a network of contacts in the army, the SSG and the ISI.

It is apparent that Shahzad was killed either because of what he reported in his despatch of May 27 regarding the penetration of the navy by the Al Qaeda or because of what he intended reporting about the training camps of the 313 Brigade.

Thus both the ISI and the 313 Brigade had a common motive for having him eliminated. Was their decision to eliminate him only related to his story on the Mehran attack or was there more to it? Whoever took the decision to eliminate him was in a desperate hurry. He was kidnapped within 48 hours of the first part being published. He would have most probably despatched the second part in the week beginning May 30. His captors wanted to do away with him before that.
The "real" truth will never be known just as the "real" truth behind the murder of Murtaza Bhutto in Karachi in 1996 and behind the murder of Benazir Bhutto at Rawalpindi in 2007 was never known.

People will be arrested and prosecuted, but they will not be the real perpetrators. The history of Pakistan is full of such instances of mysterious elimination of inconvenient people.
Shahzad is the latest to join the ranks of such mysteriously eliminated people. He has paid with his life for daring to look into two incidents, which the ISI wanted to be covered up -- the Mehran attack and the stay of OBL at Abbottabad.

Right alongside 9211 Brigade -- Downhill Specialists, aka, Nau do Gyarah

There is some speculation that the internecine warfare between AQ, ISI and PN has to do with revenue sharing in the drug trade. Knowing Bakis, I wouldn't be surprised if the P3C's were being used to transport Afghani maal.

Pakistani journalist was tortured to death: police http://www.dawn.com/2011/06/01/pakistan ... olice.html

http://www.dawn.com/2011/06/01/my-coura ... eague.html
An excerpt from his book ‘Inside Al-Qaeda and the Taleban “ beyond bin Laden and 9/11' tells us this about the Mumbai attacks: “With Ilyas Kashmiri’s immense expertise on Indian operations, he stunned the Al-Qaeda leaders with the suggestion that expanding the war theatre was the only way to overcome the present impasse. He presented the suggestion of conducting such a massive operation in India as would bring India and Pakistan to war and with that all proposed operations against Al-Qaeda would be brought to a grinding halt. Al-Qaeda excitedly approved the attack-India proposal.

Ilyas Kashmiri then handed over the plan to a very able former army major Haroon Ashik, who was also a former LeT commander who was still very close with the LeT chiefs Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi and Abu Hamza. Haroon knew about a plan by Pakistan`s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) that had been in the pipelines for several months with the official policy to drop it as it was to have been a low-profile routine proxy operation in India through LeT.

“The former army major, with the help of Ilyas Kashmiri`s men in India, hijacked the ISI plan and turned it into the devastating attacks that shook Mumbai on November 26, 2008 and brought Pakistan and India to the brink of a war.”

A close friend of his tells me he called Saleem Shahzad on Sunday and had a long chat and told him to be careful. “I told Saleem I was sure his writings were ruffling many a feather. ‘And these people are not benign. Who has ever held the agencies or their allies accountable for anything in our country? Yaar, khiyal rakhna (be careful)’.”

According to the friend, Saleem and he discussed the militant infiltration in the lower ranks of the Defence Forces. “He also expressed a fear that there would be a rise in violence as the security establishment is really shaky.”

Regarding the kidnapping of the bankers, an email I got points out that the men kidnapped were from the same bank where the emailer's father works in a very senior position. The kidnapping happened three days ago and there is no word as of this post with regard to ransom, or what the kidnappers' objectives are. The emailer adds that "this sort of stuff is happening a lot these days... God knows what’s coming ahead".

Revenue Department official, Mushtaq Solangi, was abducted for ransom. According to Darakhshan police officials, Solangi is a land official in Gadap Town’s Revenue Department.

While police continued their search of the kidnapped official, his family received a call from kidnappers demanding an exorbitant ransom of Rs40 million for his safe release.
No news about the industrialist’s son.

maybe the best theory is that its not part of ONE grand plan, but each powerful demon raping TSPs backside has his own plan and TSP is the free-fire zone where all such plans intersect ...

message forwarded to me by a friend - sounds fairly desperate
.. the markets are forced to shut down 3 days in
week. How the hell are they supposed to do their businesses and feed their families?
There is chaos and turmoil on the streets, every day.

Abruptly there is a price hike on everything, Rs 90 for a liter of petrol.
A US$ costs Rs 86 these days, now they are now fixing it to Rs 91 a dollar.
More inflation to come.

This country is near bankruptcy and now they are trying to run the country
with people’s money.

In Pakistan, the situation has never been so terrible. People are dying of
hunger, they have started selling their kidneys and even their own children
now.
Only India can save Pakistan, but Pakis have to give up Pakistaniyat.

Shravan,

The men who were kidnapped were somehow colleagues. Maybe they are part of the same conglomerate or something... But that's what was in the email. Unless it was some other kidnapping...which would make things even worse...

Maybe the case. The guy's father does not work at any of the banks mentioned above.

You are IMO watching history being made. A few older codgers saw that in 1971.

If I wear my peace cloak I can see peace - under certain special circumstances. But there will be turmoil before that.

For thousands of years people living on either side of the fertile Indus traded with the happy lands to the east. You stop that and they are fcued no matter which way you cut it. he Paki establishment has one more chance to surivive - i.e to sell their enriched Uranium to countries who need it for nuclear power.

Pakistan is headed to becoming another North Korea.
Where the dear leader(s) enjoy a rich westernized lifestyle, with the choicest alcohol, and comforts of life, and the commoners don't get paid for several months.
There will be widespread famines, severe power shortages, industries will one by one shut down, and there will be a law and order problem.

In Pakistan's case the law and order problem is likely to be even more severe because the taliban and the Jihadis will indulge in everything from sectarian violence to terrorist attacks against the state and the people.

If the world doesn't quarantine pakistan, they will be spouting off more terrorists who will hit out at targets in every prosperous land that they can.

An analogy will be a slum inhabited by crooks and criminals close to prosperous housing colonies, where the crooks repeatedly carry out small robberies and then melt away into that slum.

That is what Pakistan is going to/has started to become vis-a-vis the countries of the world.

actually the invasion that pakistan has not allowed for is the traditional one
i.e. the afghan raiders pouring through the khyber
in their desert mard delusions about ghazwa e hind, they forgot that they are the historical front line of al-hind
the time is coming when taliban technicals will be cruising the streets of pindi between the shattered hulks of TSPA edifices, with long lines of slaves being driven once more beyond the Hindu Kush

as a coincidence Lalmohanji I just watched blackhawk down in star movied HD here. soothing visions of ruined kutcha streets between rows and rows of sullen buildings with no intact windows, pockmarks and rubble from past fights, people bent over in street corners in drug and glue sniffing haze, "technicals" with raving mad fighters cruising slowly to and fro.....great cinematography there.

Najam Sethi's description is a bit erroneous:
1. During torture, the perpetrator often lose control over themselves, and indulge in excessive torture. Since they do not feel the pain that the victim is going through, and they mostly can't tell when a person is near collapse, torture often continues beyond the tolerance limits of the victim.

Then there are these sick minded people who are so into torturing, that they are actually deriving pleasure from the victim's suffering.

A mixture of internal injuries, severe pain - both physical and emotional probably killed SSS. He might even had one of those silent heart attacks that people of his age group tend to have ~40-ish.

2. Now if the ISI goons' intention was only to severely warn SSS, they should have stopped well short of killing him.
Their intention was to severely punish him, to the point where he would be fearful for his life. In that grey area, the goons probably overdid the torture.

No excuses for the goons' action. Cold blooded murder if there was any. The point is that the persons who did this - probably some JCO rank persons who do the beating and low ranked officer (Captain/Major level) are probably getting their routine slap on the wrists from senior ISI and Army officers. Now the system in Pakistan will move to protect the ISI, the Army and the involved persons.
Also the situation plays into the Army's hands, all the other TV personalities who were criticizing the army get the feedback that they need to STFU if they want to stay alive. So it seems the Pakistan Army will ride this out, by stonewalling all inquiries and questions.

Until the next crisis, which will soon materialize when the deadline to take out the list of 4 terrorists arrives.

As Pakistan's ISI Gets Linked to Terror Groups, Can India Push for a Showdown?
Pillai also describes how India has tried to convince the U.S. to do more to stop the flow of counterfeit currency from Pakistan into India, arguing that the fake money funds terrorists who threaten both India and the U.S.
However large the Indian military might loom in the Pakistani imagination, the reality is that India is not going to retaliate now for an attack that is nearly three years old, particularly in the absence of new evidence. While India might want to score diplomatic points by highlighting evidence of Pakistani duplicity, it has very little incentive to seek out a military confrontation with Pakistan. Why? Investors tend to get very nervous about the threat of war, and this government's most impressive achievement is its record of solid economic growth. It is unlikely to do anything to jeopardize that.

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/MF02Df06.html
The leaked reports over the past two weeks of a series of meetings between United States officials and a Taliban figure close to leader Mullah Omar seemed to point to real progress toward a negotiated settlement of the war in Afghanistan.
But in fact the talks are part of a Barack Obama administration strategy aimed at putting pressure on the Taliban leadership in part by dividing it from Pakistan as well as bolstering Obama's domestic support for the war.
Pakistan's spymaster Hamid Gul: angel of jihad or windbag provocateur?
Gul is Pakistan's guardian angel of jihad – an outspoken Islamist who supports the Taliban and spends much of his time peddling lurid conspiracy theories on television.

But the story quickly crumbled. First the Afghans changed their account, saying Omar had been captured, not killed. Then the Taliban insisted their leader was active and well. Finally Gul popped up, like a puppet show villain, to nay-say his detractors. "Ridiculous, rubbish, a joke frankly. What else can I say?" the 74-year-old, arching an eyebrow, told the Guardian at his office near army headquarters in Rawalpindi. "Those people need to find a scapegoat and I am a convenient symbol."

Rajaram,
I think the PNS Mehran is related to some clown jewels. S^3 got killed as he figured it out. Hajam Sethi is trying to protect the ISI goons.

TSP involved with terrorists in not earth shattering new news.

I think where we are getting fogged is the traditional role of nooks to attack land targets. The fact that the PRC and TSP are working on integrating something on an anti-submarine patrol aircraft (Onion) means its related to something they both see as a threat. The Indian second strike option is the only thing that would attract their joint efforts.
I think when the Arihant goes on its deterrent patrol, this nuke armed plane will also go on patrol.

Where I am not clear is the attackers' objective? What did they seek? The Onion blowing up happened in first one hour of the 17 hr encounter. What happened during the later 16 hours? Did they take something else with their hostages?

A Somalia...only with fanatic barbarianism and religious bigotry and jihadi fervour thrown into the witches brew..look at how pirates are roaming the seas...TSPians will roam the lands..many are doing that anyway..some become foot soldiers to barbaric animal kingdoms and sheiks of ME killing Shias or other regime's opponents for money.

India should IMHO make it abundantly clear to Baluchis that if they follow the vision of Gaffar Khan and rekindle the spirit of early part of last century...they would have 400% support....Sindh is too large and messy and too full of barbarians to get involved, but Pashtun lands and Baloch certainly are fair game...

It is extremely unlikely that SSS was accidentally killed during torture. It is most definitely a deliberate act.

The body was dumped in plain view as a warning to others. It would be very easy to 'disappear' it if an accident occurred.

WRT to TSP, this a land of 190 million people. India can't save them. I don't think they can save themselves even. There is no real bottom to this sort of decline. Every outrage is followed by another even worse outrage. There is still a long ways to go.

Absolutely. These fellows are skilled torturers. Sajad Haider - the man whose autobiography I reviewed described how he was tortured. They are good - and the victim is transported to a prison where it can be done. It's not as though they do it in public places. SSS was caught for Wajibul Cattle

That begs the question. We have no reason to believe that SSS was not a Allah fearing, good Muslim. Killing a good Muslim is a huge crime in Islam. So the ISI officers who killed him committed blasphemy? I just wonder how does a common religious Pakistani reconcile with these issues?
You can call terrorist x and y as a non-Muslim when they kill other Muslims (or frreedom fighters when they kill non-Muslims) but in this case it is clear to everyone this was done by whom..

Hear what SSS's brother has to say about the discovery of his body.

He says, the family got a call from the police that a car had been found 200kms from islamabad with a body inside.

The relatives immediately rushed to the site.

By the time they reached there, the police had already buried the body!!! And they had taken pictures of the body that showed the injuries.

Now isn't this reminiscent of hosing down BB's sun-roof lever site?

I won't buy the argument that the police are staunch islamists and will bury a dead man before the sun is down in each and every case. Poor guy that SSS.
