BR Admins / Moderators,

There is a discussion going on in Armoured Vehicles Discussion Thread

- I find lots of disinformation on blow-off panels and lack of information to users.

- I want to post the below mentioned links and a good sum up(from these links) on how different is ammo storage in T-72/80/90 compared to Modern western mbt's.
- Point is to highlight besides M1 series all tanks have same level of protection of crew against ammo delfagration.

links are:
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/sh ... nks./page2
http://208.84.116.223/forums/index.php? ... 19018&st=0

is it possible for admins to review and grant me permission to post it.

Admins, if permission is granted to d_berwal then the same "disinformation sniff test" must be applied to his posts too that spread anti domestic product propaganda for reasons best known to the poster.

Dear Mr. Berwal,
We appreciate your concern and attempts to educate us. You typically don't need permission to post anything on this forum. A moderator may decide on the contents of your post after you have posted it. Even if one of us gives you "permission" here does not guarantee that it will be exempt from normal moderation procedures by another one among us. Whatever is posted is subject to critique by any other member. However, if at any time in any thread a moderator asks you to stop posting on a certain issue, in a certain manner, drop any thread of discussion etc., you are expected to comply.
You are free to post/not post anything on this forum. You are responsible for what you post and (if it requires), any moderator action that may result.

Thanks

Is there is thread for discussing matters related IAS or if I were to broaden the scope 'Bureaucracy' ?

For instance where does one post the following ?

with members using their own syntaxes to deprive back-links to pakistani sites, with this, IMHO, assuming bit of a ridiculous proportion [w/o the next post one would've had no idea what site was being referred to], things can get confusing & tiresome if more and more members adopt the practice

my suggestion: add a digit at the end of the TLD

Take for example this URL: http://sites.google.com/site/brfdictionary/

to deprive the backlink, yet make it accessible to those interested, one could add a number, say 9, at the end of the TLD, like this

http://sites.google.com9/site/brfdictionary/

just specify that 1 can access the acual site be removing the 9 - less cumbersome this way IMO, than having to figure out that Earth-E-Shaster here means pakobserver & not a Shirleen farticle in Nutty Nation

On a different note, if one finds the actual BRF dictionary's URL too cumbersome to type, one can also access the same using this URL [case-sensitive] http://j.mp/brfdictionary

Admins, I apologize if this has been asked and addressed before.

My paid email service that I used for BRF membership will be going away very shortly, and I don't have another one to take its place. Do I have any options besides losing my membership?

Thank you.

Is it possible to have a Tweet link to each post of the forum so that users who are logged into both Twitter and BRF could easily tweet the posts. It will create a wider audience.

from the MRCA thread.
Guddu wrote:+1 to the above, no argument with that. If I can make a brief OT comment.
May I however respectfully point to a double standard at BRF: calling someone Burkha Butt once is not ok as it has supposed legal risks for BRF, but use of ass-saaf-kiyanahi is as common as Kim-wipes. ...
a clarification is needed here.
did any BR mod make that comment about legal risks ? I don't think so. in which case do not ascribe that comment to BR policy.
we have a code of conduct against name calling of BR members and public figures (esp. Indians) and that is enforced, although one or two instances might go under the radar. name twisting is par for the course for BR (f.e a number of people refer to me as Mahul R) and is NOT an offence.

the references to certain genocidal pakistanis whose sole occupation is devising ways to take the lives of innocent Indians(among other nationalities) might be seen at variance to this rule, but this 'hypocrisy', if you want to call it that (and I don't) is something that we embrace wholeheartedly. comprende ?

Which thread to post Nuclear news and analysis from Japan now (ref the last post by Gerard on the old Jap thread) ? The situation there is still evolving and lot of critical news and developments arise from that the same.

We should be at least tracking the news, to share and be better informed.

Is an intellectually challenged moderator right to change an username to any funny sounding one?

Usernames are changed to conform with forum guidelines. Different moderators use different methods. I use names from the cast and crew of the movie Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

However, since it was an actual name, the username has been restored.

Dear moderators and webmasters

Want to raise some issues around the quality of forum discussions these days. I have been a BR lurker for donkeys years and do not post unless I have a specific question. I am a pure enthusiast who has enjoyed the days of open debate, discussion and analysis and of course one-stop shop for news.

Over the last year, the forum has descended into a jingoistic, ultra-right-wing propaganda vehicle. Some of the older forum members restrict viewpoints, deride and bully other members by calling them "dhoti-shivering SDREs". While, I can appreciate having such a strong point of view, this restricts open discussion.

I hang together with a few other enthusiasts from my campus days, all BR lurkers and occasional posters, and the refrain is being echoed everywhere. Many have cut down on their visits to the forum.

I think the moderators have a much larger role to perform in getting the forum back to the "quality forum" that it used to be. We cannot let it slide into the same decline as the other mil forums have over years. To me and a few others, this is an existential question for BR.

I may sound like an old fogey here, but I do genuinely feel for the forum. Its my one true hobby.

+1 to this. I have been a lurker for long with the occasional post in between. I really used to enjoy the excellent discussions by the 'old guard' and also the leg pulling that a newbie went through (first hand experience). Though what K_Rohit says is correct in a way, I believe the old guard, which remains is also fed -up of a lot of newbie jingoes who write things without thinking. This was never a jingoistic forum and instead i used to always feel proud of ourselves how we took the right view without going into overtures.

Also, from a moderation perspective I see few mods or bradmins active. But, I will not blame the mods only, we as the old guard also hold a responsibility. Many a time, I have reported posts which I found were not keeping in line with our BR expectations. I dont want this turning into another 'deaf and dumb' forum. But sometimes it gets way out of hand.

A suggestion, can we have every new comer into the forum write out a small essay of sorts (200 words?) which explains his need of joining BR and also comment on atleast one current 'affair' of the armed forces, before he is allowed here?
I dont mind helping in reviewing this as well. We could then allow the person to post. I say this because a lot of people now have official ID's which makes it easy for them to access this forum.

I dont mean to be snobbish but I feel that this forum has seen better days.

:-o
I have to strongly disagree with this suggestion. Such an entrance exam would suggest a misplaced sense of superiority on part of the forum. I feel that the primary reason for any person to join such forums is to learn. It will be highly arrogant of the forum to form a kind of special/exclusive Arm Chair General club.

I am all for improving quality of the forum, but the forum policy being suggested would have a far greater detrimental effect.

A small suggestion If I may. IS it possible for for BR to at least bi-bifurcate the Strat section of the forum, While the main heading and styling be the same as before, a small link can be provided to a separate section named as "TSP : News and Discussion".

I notice that in the strategic forum there are around 38 active threads on the first page and off them on an average there are 10 to 15 Paki-centric threads which include Benis dhaga, Economic stress, nuke proliferation etc etc etc. It'll be great if we could move them en masse to a separate section which is still under strategic section but has a sort of sub-link (like a caption).

India is moving forward very fast and we have diversified relations across nations of the world (civilized ones) which need to be discussed and analyzed in greater depth and Intense debate on TSP related threads can dilute that and also give the impression of BR being somewhat "Pak centric" (which its not). For posters like me who only wish to see TSP punished for its dastardly acts but not intrested in it's say to day crisis management, this would be great as it gives more space to several more important topics. Thanks !!

1) My handle was changed from Dronacharya to RaghuD, I cannot think of ANY possible reason for this change.

2) I was never informed about this change, and I don't think there is a way to login to this forum without the userID. Heck! You cannot even do a forgot username.

3) I had to actually create a SECOND user ID, look at forum posts made by my first ID and determine what my new username is.

Without intending any personal offense, this is probably the WORST moderation style I have ever come across.

Looking forward to your reply

Raghu, your username was changed because dronacharya is not a human sounding name (we use that phrase in the sense that it is a common name in our day and age)

you WERE informed about the change, by an edit in a post you made. however you faced a problem because that post was in the restricted section. it was an oversight by the mod who did the change, nothing else. if it makes you happy I apologise on his behalf for the inconvenience.

I suspect Gerard deleted about 7 posts of mine from International Nook dhaaga without notice. Is he taking a stand in the debate and afraid to discuss inconvenient news. However, he himself failed to follow his diktat. While I find this offensive I think BRF might still be a place for open discussion or reporting of news which many may not agree. If member in the position of moderation has some stand he should have the courage to take that stand and debate it in that thread and recuse himself from moderating it and leave it to others, that is, if he has any conscience.

1. My name isn't Raghu.

2. Even if the forum wasn't section, it's hard to go through all the posts and look at edits. A pm or a mail would have been nicer.

2.1 The word Chankiya is found in the BR Glossary. However I find users with the username Chaanakya. The word Droneacharya is also found in the BR Glossary. But, I guess the username Dronacharya [Notice no Drone] is not allowed. Also wondering as to how handles like "amdavadi", "Cyberu", "Mort Walker", "Theo Fidel" are more human-like than Dronacharya :) [They have made a lot of posts too]

3. While I do understand that this forum has little tolerance for handles that mean something beyond a name, what surprises me, is that the so-called senior members are allowed to bash a new member, just because a thread was created in the general section.

4. What astounds me all the more that is that a moderator, who incidentally happens to be the one that changed my handle without notice, "enjoys" by self-confession - the so-called ragging meted out to a new member. Having used several high class forums including the Ubuntu forum when it was it at it's prime, thescienceforum.com till date, I find this sort of moderation standards strange to say the least. May I draw your attention to the fact that the word moderate owes its roots to the Latin word Moderari which roughly translates to "restraining". Of course, I would totally understand if the word moderation is supposed to mean something else in a non-first-rate forum. In which case, I request that the "moderators" add this "revised" definition to the BR glossary.

1. every mod has his own methods for choosing new usernames. however, you can always make a request for an username that's human sounding, it will be changed if it's available.

2. not practical, it's a largish forum with too few active mods. the current system works fine 95% of the time. it's natural for people to check the posts they have made last.

2.1.(?) valid point. some pass under the radar and some are from before the time username regulation was in place. it's a little unfair to retroactively change usernames after someone has spent a long time on the forum.

3. BR humour might look odd to a newcomer but there was no ill-will. no bashing either.

4. it's called mock seriousness, a type of humour.
if you find BR beneath your level, well nobody forced you to be here.

I have already pointed out that it is not a Fukishima thread nor will we allow it to be converted into such. It is not an anti-nuclear thread either. These threads are to follow the nuclear industry and weapons establishment.

The entire 'debate' has run its course and the repetition, ad nauseum, serves no purpose. Every other participant in that thread is reporting every other member. A moderator opens that to find more than a dozen complaints from everyone and his/her aunty.

We have had quite enough.

The last time I checked this was an Indian military interest forum populated by jingoes. There are other places on the Internet where folks with agendas can discuss things.

Since there is no 'debate', there should not be any reason for personal attacks, hence no reports are expected.
