Bin Laden’s rooms did have the only air conditioner in the compound, in a region where summer temperatures can top 100 degrees,” reports the Associated Press. Oh, you ********.
Consider that as temperatures on the East Coast of the U.S. rise well into the 90s today. The Al Qaeda leader would sit in his nicely chilled room–possibly watching *****–while his soldiers, defenders and family sweltered. Oh, and of course he planned terror attacks in his spare time. And in the winter? No heat, just blankets, which–shocker–usually seemed to end up around bin Laden’s shoulders. The terror chief seems to have had the best of a lousy living arrangement:
Pakistani officials described the emerging picture of life inside the compound. One official described it as bleak, almost prison-like in its austerity. Some of the roughly two dozen surviving residents told Pakistani intelligence they subsisted on a weekly delivery of one goat, which they slaughtered inside the compound, plus milk from a couple of cows kept in the courtyard. There were also eggs from chickens that roamed the courtyard and vegetables from a small kitchen garden

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110608/ap_ ... aden_troveWASHINGTON – The U.S. is tracking possible new terror targets and stepping up surveillance of operatives previously considered minor al-Qaida figures after digging through the mountain of correspondence seized from Osama bin Laden's hideout, officials say. The trove of material is filling in blanks on how al-Qaida operatives work, think and fit in the organization, they say.The new information is the result of five weeks of round-the-clock work by a CIA-led team of data analysts, cyber experts and translators who are 95 percent finished decrypting and translating the years of material and expect to complete the effort by mid-June, two U.S. officials say.Al-Qaida operatives worldwide are feeling the heat, with at least two of them altering their travel plans in recent weeks in apparent alarm that they might become the targets of another U.S. raid, one official said. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the review of bin Laden files taken by U.S. Navy SEALs in a May 2 raid on his Abbottabad, Pakistan, hideout. As for bin Laden's suggestion to hit oil tankers, there is an indication of intent, with operatives seeking the size and construction of tankers, and concluding it's best to blow them up from the inside because of the strength of their hulls. In a confidential warning obtained by The Associated Press, the FBI and the Homeland Security Department said that al-Qaida operatives also recommended test runs, but there's no evidence the plot went any further, the officials say. The U.S. has briefed allies such as Britain, Germany and other countries in Europe on the contents of the trove relevant to their nations or their portions of the counterterror fight, officials said. They have also shared some of the information with Pakistan, as part of an effort to renew cooperation with Islamabad

US diver launches underwater search for Osama's body
June 14, 2011 10:10:14 AM
IANS/RIA Novosti | Moscow
Eccentric California salvage diver and entrepreneur Bill Warren, 59, has announced that he wants to find Osama Bin Laden's body as proof the Al Qaeda leader is really dead.
"I'm doing it because I am a patriotic American who wants to know the truth. I do it for the world," Warren told the New York Post.
The nearly decade-long hunt for the elusive Al Qaeda leader, believed to be the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, ended May 2 after US Navy Seals gunned him down in a town close to Islamabad.
The terrorist's body was buried at sea. The White House said it would not release graphic images of Osama's corpse, but the CIA did later show the photographs to select US lawmakers.
"I have a Russian girlfriend, and she tells me that over there, in intelligence circles, they don't believe bin Laden's really dead," Warren said. "I do not trust my government or Obama."
Warren expects the search will cost about $400,000 and will rely on several boats and high-end technology. If Warren finds the body, he will hold a DNA test at the ship.

Old but relevant‘Advice’ turns Pakistan around
K.P. NAYAR
San Francisco, May 5: Saudi Arabia and Turkey separately played significant roles in persuading Pakistan to give up Osama bin Laden and facilitate his elimination by the US, according to pieces that are slowly fitting the puzzle of Sunday’s anti-terror operation in Abbottabad.
In limited, highly classified briefings for key Congressional leaders, the Obama administration has shared some of its assessments that the Saudis advised Pakistan that it was necessary to take the al Qaida bull by its horns as part of a bigger strategy to manage “the Arab Spring” which is threatening established governments from Oman to Morocco.
The briefings for key men on Capitol Hill dealing with intelligence, defence, foreign affairs and homeland security, which have begun in Washington, are not entirely designed to share highly sensitive information with those who are outside the operational perimeters of the successful plan to eliminate Osama.
Re: Osama Bin Laden Killed in Pakistan-2
Most likely the KSA and Turks advised the Pak civilians, for the TSPA was caught quite dazed at the Abortabad raid. So there are parallel decision paths in TSP.
Re: Osama Bin Laden Killed in Pakistan-2
^^ Yes, that is likely. The major reason why KSA recognised the taleban was because Prince Turki advised King Fahd this, so that they could persuade Mullah O to extradite OBL and anti saudi monarchy guys back to KSA in 2001. Prince Turki was sacked also because of this failure - and at the same time the Taleban ambassador was expelled. US worked on something similar then too.

Let us see what Zawahiri does to what he called the "US Colony" = Pakistan? Or if a new general takes over from Ashfaq, and since it is most likely that the ISI is hiding him, things may get interesting.

ISI kept OBL in a safehouse. Zawahiri too would be in some safe house somewhere in some cantonment area. One thing is certain the next video will have Z making a statement or two of declaring war against Pakistan and US. Scripted by ISI. US will immediately sanction 2 billion usd in aid..and lots od SD people will go Paki allies etc once again. Coming to see it's a nice script really.

The Guardian cited a former senior US counter-terrorism official as declaring, "Both sides also agreed that Islamabad would vociferously protest the incursion afterwards in keeping with public sensitivities."
Under the deal, Pakistan would allow US forces to conduct a unilateral raid on its soil in search of bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri. "There was an agreement between Bush and Musharraf that if we knew where Osama was, we were going to come and get him," the US official was quoted as saying.
The Guardian said a senior Pakistani official confirmed that the deal had been struck originally by Mr Musharraf and renewed by the army during the "transition to democracy" - a six-month period from February 2008 when Mr Musharraf was still president but a civilian government had been elected.

Cuomo: Right. You've said in the past you would like that someone else take care of Osama bin Laden. That it's complicated for you. That it's tricky about what would happen. If you were to capture him you don't know whether you'd give him to the United States. Those type of comments raise a suspicion about how dedicated you are ... to that mission. ... But the reality is it's complicated for you.
Musharraf: Yes, it is.
Cuomo: Osama bin Laden. A lot of people ... are in... favor of him here.
Musharraf: I spoke the truth, but that doesn't -- that doesn't mean that we won't handle the situation. If we get it, that we can -- we will handle the situation. Obviously. But I was just expressing a wish, very frankly -- well, I shouldn't have done it, maybe.
Cuomo: You shouldn't have done it because when you say, "We'd rather somebody else do it," it raises questions ... about how aggressive you wanna be on it, right?
Musharraf: No, I don't think it should have created that doubt, because we are extremely aggressive on any targets that we see. When we see targets and we hit them, you don't see faces. You know that this is the enemy.
The -- they are doing training. They are together, they are doing military training and we hit them. Now we don't know whether Osama bin Laden is there or [unintelligible] is there or anyone is there. We may be having some intelligence that so and so may be there. So...
Cuomo: If you knew where Osama bin Laden was, would you go in and get him and turn him over to the United States?
Musharraf: Well, let's not go into the semantics, but we will get the target. Yes, indeed. Absolutely.
Cuomo: Even if it were Osama bin Laden?
Musharraf: Absolutely.
Cuomo: And you would turn him over to the U.S.?
Musharraf: Let's not talk about whether we will turn him over to the U.S. ... or we do something here. How will we behave? Within... we'll treat him very well or we'll beat him up or something. (LAUGHS) Why get into that?
Cuomo: But it's a big question certainly to the Americans. This is enemy number one for them. They wanna know that their friend in Pakistan is on the same page. And that if you caught Osama bin Laden he'd turn him over.
Musharraf: I think the people who need to know know it. And I don't think the media is the one who needs to know.
Cuomo: Why is it something you wanna be careful about?
Musharraf: It's a very sensitive issue. It's a sensitive issue in the people of Pakistan. So why -- why get -- why arouse sentimentalities?
Cuomo: Because it's also a sensitive issue to your friends in America.

Head of the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Dianne Feinstein, lets slip that records of Osama Bin Laden’s Abbotabad compound may have vanished:
Read it all in Foreign Policy:Asked by The Cable if she had seen any evidence that senior Pakistani government officials had been involved in the hiding of bin Laden, Feinstein paused, thought for a moment, and then gave a very careful response.
"I don't understand how somebody could buy the land for $48,000, get the building permits, get a contractor, build for a period of time what is essentially the largest home compound in the area, where somebody lives for five years, and nobody asks who's there or finds out who's there," she said.
Then she offered this fascinating tidbit:
"I understand it's very difficult to go back and find the records, that they suddenly disappeared. That's not a positive sign either," she said.
Pressed by The Cable on how she knew that the bin Laden files had been lost, she said, "That's what the rumor is... I didn't hear this from [the] intel [community]."

During his final years, Osama bin Laden expressed interest in everything from killing President Obama to his deputies' personalities to an article in an extremist magazine that he didn't like, according to two U.S. officials familiar with material seized during the raid that killed bin Laden. A trove of digital communications and hand-written notes show how bin Laden ran his weakened network from his solitary hideout in a garrison town in Pakistan. He was especially engaged in decisions about leadership posts and developing plots, the officials said. Bin Laden's writings discuss his strategic goal of carrying out attacks that would prevent President Obama from being re-elected, though he also wrote that "the alternative could be worse," a U.S. counterterror official said
Bin Laden was bent on inflicting mass-casualty attacks on the West, the U.S. official said. At the same time, however, he criticized an online propaganda magazine edited by a young American in Yemen, saying the bloodthirsty tone of an article could harm al Qaeda's image among Muslims, according to the U.S. counterterror official. ( Bet a Paki Kasab must have come up with such bloody plan)
The magazine, called Inspire, "apparently discussed using a tractor or farm vehicle in an attack outfitted with blades or swords as a fearsome killing machine," the official said. "Bin Laden said this is something he did not endorse. He seems taken aback. He complains that this tactical proposal promotes indiscriminate slaughter. He says he rejects this and it is not something that reflects what al Qaeda does." The sentiment apparently evokes bin Laden's concern -- previously expressed in al Qaeda letters intercepted in 2004 -- about backlash among Muslims who feel the network has gone to violent extremes, especially in Iraq, and killed many Muslims in the process.
