Pattern of Infilitration: LeT cadres usually infiltrate independently from
known launch pads in POK/Pakistan. Due to a majority of its attempts being
interdicted by the Army between the Line of Control (LoC) and the border
fencing, it has changed its tactics. The use of human guides has given way
to greater reliance on global positioning system (GPS) devices and satellite
phones (Thurayya sets). An infiltrating column is well armed with AK-
47/56 rifles with at least 2-3 magazines each and enough rounds of 7.62 AK
ammunition. In a group of 2-4 militants, one AK rifle is generally equipped
with an under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL). Each terrorist is equipped
with hand grenades, ammunition pouch, rucksack, camouflage jackets, and,
on some occassions, even mobile phones and some Indian currency. Earlier,
militants, while infiltrating, were provided minimum munitions, which were
supplemented once they reached their operating station in the hinterland.
This indicates a shortage of ammunition now within J&K.

Once groups of militants reach the launch pads, the launch pad commanders
identify viable routes of infiltration and send reconnaissance parties of one or
two militants or guides. If they return without being fired upon, within a day or
two, an infiltrating column is sent on that route, mostly at night or during the
wee hours of dawn. The training of LeT militants has improved qualitatively and
they undertake LoC crossings under snow and bad weather conditions through
treacherous routes more often nowadays. This was observed in March 2009
when large groups (15-50) of LeT and HM militants attempted infiltration via
the snow covered passes in the Keran and Gurez sectors, along with huge
quantities of munitions. If a large group of six or more militants is detected,
one or two militants engage the Army while the rest attempt a diversion to
infiltrate. Some such attempts have proved successful as in June and August
2008, and in March 2009, in the Keran, Machal and Gurez sectors, where
groups of 15-25 LeT terrorists infiltrated, and upon being detected, split into
two or more groups, while a pair of militants kept the troops engaged with
tactical fire from behind boulders. The militants have also identified gaps in
troop deployment on the LoC and infiltrate via the inter-linking boundaries
between battalions and brigades. In the first week of August 2009, multiple
attempts were made in a single brigade sector in the Kupwara sector of north
Kashmir. While some sneaked in, many were eliminated. Once surrounded by
troops, directions are communicated by handlers to inflict maximum casualties
on the troops, if unable to infiltrate further. For instance, a group of terrorists
in the Keran sector split into pairs in the forests between the LoC and the
fence, and intermittently engaged the troops for a week, inflicting casualties
whenever they closed in on them.

In instances of a large group or an important leader being infiltrated, local
launch commanders are directed to provide a reception party at the LoC
and guide the group to its destination in the hinterland. This led to the high
casualties inflicted on a special forces team inside Hafruda in March 2009
,
where the number of infiltrating terrorists was swelled by the reception
party, later joined by terrorists already present there.

The LeT’s preferred routes of infiltration remain the Tangdhar, Keran and
Machal sectors in Kupwara district (north Kashmir). Its major launch pads
are concentrated around Bugina, Athmuqam, Dudhnial and Kel opposite this
sector. Some special training in snow warfare and para-sailing was imparted
to its cadres around these camps in Muzaffarabad and Neelam districts. Top
LeT commanders and its major communication nodes are also concentrated
here. It has reduced its attempts via Rajouri and Poonch, owing to greater
chances of detection and reduced cadre strength there.

...

A perceptible shift in the LeT’s strategy has been restricting the use of
fidayeen or suicide squads. This was the deadliest LeT trademark and had
created the maximum impact on the security forces. The LeT had lost a large
number of its cadres in fidayeen attacks from 1999-2007. The frequency of
these attacks started coming down from 2004 onwards. Barring the two
attacks in Jammu (May and August 2008), there has been no such attack
in the state in recent times. The fidayeen strategy, hence, proved costly to
the outfit and it has since attempted to preserve its cadres. The lull was,
however, broken on 06 January 2010, when two fidayeens loosely affiliated
with both the LeT and HuM, carried out a strike at Lal Chowk, Srinagar.
Subsequent communication intercepts have revealed the need to bring back
fidayeen attacks to stem the downward spiral of militancy in J&K and bring
back focus on it.

The recruitment of Kashmiri youth into the LeT continues to be low.
However, there have been a few instances of men being lured and provided
training within J&K. Post the Amarnath land row agitations and subsequent
anti-India protests, attempts were made by the LeT to win recruits to its side.
In fact, one of the Kashmiri militants killed in the Lal Chowk fidayeen attack
is reported to have joined the LeT after participating in the “Muzaffarabad
Chalo” march in Baramulla (August 2008). He was agitated with the perceived
police highhandedness in opening fire to quell the demonstrations. Recently,
eight Kashmiri boys from south Kashmir were apprehended in Srinagar
while on their way to Kupwara in an attempt to crossover to POK for arms
training. They were being coopted by the HM for the LeT. There have been
reports indicating increased cadre strength following successful infiltration
attempts in the forest belts of Rajwar-Hafruda and the Lolab Valley of north
Kashmir. The LeT is making similar efforts to regain lost ground in the Pir
Panjal region of Surankot.

Unable to strike singularly, the LeT has increased its cooperation with
other outfits, especially the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. At a recent meeting, the ISI
had brought together their cadres and made them infiltrate in mixed batches.
In the hinterland, they have been asked to form small teams of four militants
consisting of at least one Kashmiri HM militant. The HM would provide
logistical support while the LeT members would carry out low profile strikes.
There is evidence of such teams having been launched into action since
August 2010, with repeated strikes in Srinagar and Sopore on policemen
and CRPF personnel deployed in market places. The militants open fire with
silencer-fitted weapons and melt away, aided by local support and direction
provided by HM modules. There has been a spurt in the targeting of civilians,
including women, and suspected security force informers in Pulwama and
Shopian districts of south Kashmir. A group of foreign militants is believed
to be behind these killings, aided by the HM, which traditionally had a strong
base in south Kashmir.

By and large, the LeT remains unpopular with the local population in the
state, due to its predominant Pakistani and foreign cadre profile, and their
abhorrence of the Kashmiri youth

Details on the March 2009 ops in Hafruda:

http://www.indianexpress.com/story-print/439227/
At the end of the five-day Kupwara encounter that killed eight Army personnel and 17 Lashkar operatives, all evidence points to “extremely sophisticated planning and logistics” behind the biggest infiltration attempt across the Line of Control this year, security officers involved in the operation said.

Army chief General Deepak Kapoor said the high casualties of Indian Special Forces — all eight from the crack 1 Para — indicated a “high level of military training.” As did the nature of the infiltration attempt — through treacherous terrain and the recovery of highly detailed maps of the forests, along with GPS devices, radios, satellite phones, snowboots and ice axes.

At 10,273 feet, a narrow, winding road over the Sadhna Pass — its surface covered by frozen ice — is the only entrance into the stunning valleys of Karnah in the Kashmir Valley. To its left, in the vast isolated swathe, walled by the snow-capped peaks of the Shamsabari range, is the heavily guarded Line of Control. It was here on March 19, that 25 militants sneaked in — watched by both the Army and the Lashkar-e-Toiba.

This incident led to the QuikClot donation effort on B-R to which a lot of members (and especially lurkers) contributed enthusiastically. Ofcourse it got hijacked in the middle by crooks like Bhavesh Bhatt who are worse than the Pakis, before the money finally ended up with IA's welfare fund.

Kashmir encounter: Woman hostage rescued, three terrorists gunned down
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi ... 232989.cms
Three terrorists were reportedly gunned down in an encounter between the militants and the Army in a house in Lolab area of Kupwara district of the state on Friday.

The encounter is still on and according to sources one to two terrorists are still holed up in the house in Maidanpora village, 120 km from Srinagar.

Earlier, the Army managed to rescue a woman, who was holed up along with the terrorists.

Army officials confirmed that the woman is safe and has not suffered from any major injuries. Other members of the woman's family had come out earlier.

According to Army officers, amongst the militants two are said to be commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and are responsible for spreading terror in the state.

Apparently, the operation was conducted by SOG and 18 RR. However, since I came across that on a Anti India propaganda site, take it FWIW.

TOI-Let should atbest do a proof reading before they race to report. They start of by saying "women hostage" and then say "..women, who was holed up..."
If the women was holed up with the terrorist, how is she a hostage...
If the women was a hostage, she was held by the terrorist...
also what is the significance of the Comma after the women in that sentence...
It looks like THREE terrorists where HOLED up in a house, they held the family living there as hostage, during the siege by the security forces, most members were let go/slithered away.. except this woman. After Killing the three pigs, this women was rescued by the forces...

May the Force be with You!!!

Authorities in Indian Kashmir deployed thousands of security personnel in the main city of Srinagar to prevent separatist protests on a key state holiday, officials said. July 13 is marked in Indian Kashmir as 'Martyrs' Day', which marks Maharaja Hari Singh's use of force in 1931 to quell protests against his rule, resulting in the death of 23 Muslims. Separatists had planned to hold anti-India demonstrations but authorities responded with hardline measures detaining and arresting key separatists

Sum, they might have been in hot pursuit, remember couple of days back, a solitary pig went and hid inside a mosque and in another case they went into a home (but the residents sneaked out to inform authorities coming after them)... Support for Pigs in J&K has dropped drastically and fast disappearing.

Another one bites the dust:

http://www.dailyexcelsior.com/web1/11july17/news.htm#2
JAMMU, July 16: Army and police today gunned down a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit in an encounter at Battalhal in Loi Dhar near village Kohat, Keshwan in Kishtwar district. Slain militant happened to be close associate of lone LeT surviving commander Habib Gujjar alias Salman. Official sources identified the slain militant as Khursheed Ahmed alias Al Kama, 20, son of Abdul Rashid, a resident of village Hirkani in Keshwan area of Kishtwar district.

On specific information, troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles, 74 CRPF and police launched a major search operation at Battalhal, Loi Dhar this afternoon. Troops had specific inputs about the movement of Khursheed Ahmed, who had joined militancy in May this year after killing a civilian Abdul Gani during Panchayat elections in Kishtwar to spread terror among the people.

IA/JKP/CRPF unit is like travel agent continously monitoring the itinerary/size of the party of the LET pigs starting from when they assemble in the launching camps and sending them to their eventual Jannat

A cartoon can be made Jannat travels : books tickets from LET launch camps in POK to Jannat, confirmed ticket in seven-ten days. Multiple Boarding points like Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, Baramulla etc

Posting from the Misc Pictures thread
I think the article was talking about giving them some field experience in J&K etc. Not permanent duty. Experience has to be built up somewhere. And despite western notions of difference between Army Special Forces and City SWAT teams, in India the situation is blurred. Where in the western world the Army Special Forces etc would always be deployed externally, the SWAT teams would do internal counter-terrorism ops.

That is all fine and good. But if you share a land border with these terrorism sponsors, then the distinction is blurred. In J&K, Army Special Forces are acting on home territory alongside police forces. And in Mumbai, Pakistani military trained commandos are assaulting civilian locations. If the Army was the trained force required to quell 26/11 type scenarios, and J&K police regularly train alongside the Army Special Forces, why can't the Mumbai SWAT do the same?

At the very least it will give them the required experience in firearms, equipment, endurance, synergy with other operational forces in the field and most important of all: confidence and pride in their unit. There is nothing like live-field experience to solidify the unit's role in the mindset of its operators.

Go where the experience is available is all I say.

-Vivek
I agree with your point about experience. However, in my opinion, the CT operations in J&K/NE are vastly different from those that Force One may face in Mumbai. There, it is primarily jungle and countryside warfare. Experience is experience, no doubt. But still, it would be better if Force One is used as a SWAT team, taking down violent criminals, drug lords, etc, instead of combating terrorists in forests. That way, they would get the necessary experience, that too specialized to their area of operations. The Army is doing a stellar job in both J&K and N.E. because of its specialized units (RR and AR, respectively), along with S.O.G and CRPF. In such a scenario, sending 'fresh blood' in might lead to chaos and confusion. The units there might take a dim view of a metropolitan policemen fighting alongside. The J&K Police has been playing an important role in combating terrorism for a long time and it is their home ground. Similarly, if Force One starts taking the place of 'encounter specialists' and the like, it might help them and Mumbai as a whole.

Force One is a unit formed of locals for tactical operations within the state. There are other forces which are being deployed for long term 'federal' missions like COIN in J&K and NE.

There is a twist to this, LongwarJournal has reported that the victims in this video were Paki Cops and the shooters were TeleBunnies. No points for guessing who trained the bunnies.
they look like innocent villagers caught in the middle of two sides.. there were quite a few elderly men there.. who probably cant be in regular armed force..[/quote]
Prithvi, I just posted what I read in Longwar journal. it stated that these were the cops who were responsible for the brutal execution style killing of Six boys last year...http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/ ... ly_exe.php Bill Roggio is not a DDM, maybe Lifafa. Have your heard any info to the contrary? if so source please?

This article maintains it is 11 militants killed. Might be an update, since they said the operation was still ongoing

Video report of the operation being discussed above.

Edited later: What's interesting to note is the terrorists apparently try to cross the Kishanganga river by boats.

CNN-IBN reporting that 16-17 turds tried to row across and 12 of them were sent rowing straight to meet the 72 ( 6 bodies found, 6 washed down the Kishenganga)...the hunt is on for the remaining 4-5 who might have escaped.
