A point that we seem to be missing is that MMS is a nobody and yet, as 'titular' head of GOI, he is the face of the government. CON-gress can very convinienty remove him from the post and declare all is hunky-dory and claim moral high ground. That will blow the wind out of the sails of opposition and all other groups. And then 'madam' can play the musical chair with someone else...

I dont know why congress wants to axe antony ... but as per SS the plan seems to sack MMS , MAKE vinci the PM and axe antony .. I am unaware of the rational behind this...

- MMS was asked to stay till end of the year.
- The plan is to bring in baba or beti.
However Baba has lost all confidence.
If above is the plan then need to placate all contenders(PC et al) by nixing the possible benificiaries(AKA).
And remove any chance for comparisons to those contenders to the 2Bs.

Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd Mukesh Ambani and his younger brother Anil today met Home Minister P Chidambaram separately at his North Block office within a span of 50 minutes.

Mukesh, along with Chief Executive of Europe's second biggest oil company BP Plc, Bob Dudley, first had a 15-minute meeting with Chidambaram.

However, it was not immediately known what transpired in the meeting.

After 50 minutes, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group chief Anil Ambani had a 10-minute meeting with the home minister.

Anil too did not speak to waiting journalists.

He is a regular visitor of the home minister and normally comes on every Wednesday while Mukesh came to meet Chidambaram after a gap of several months.

Very curious indeed.. wonder what the Union Home Minister has to do with Anil Ambani every wednesday.

I think you misread the tweet. By "AKA ditched" he might mean that "AKA is not going to be the PM, instead clown-plince will take the seat". That means AKA thought he would get the seat of MMS? That would be like replacing one dead rat with another one. AKA would be as active as MMS.

In what is likely to compound the woes for the Congress and the UPA, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, in a letter handed over to the Prime Minister in New York and to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday, is believed to have stated that the note was prepared with input from different ministries, including the prime minister’s office. The document should be seen not as a finance ministry note but as an “inter-ministerial background paper”.

Does the letter to Sonia represent a breach of OSA or not, that is the interesting question that comes to mind at the moment.

From Jawaharlal Nehru [ Images ] to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has any prime minister received so insolent a letter from one of his colleagues? Dayanidhi Maran was virtually dictating to Dr Manmohan Singh.

The terms of reference were diluted under the DMK minister's pressure, removing pricing from the purview of the group of ministers. This is the first charge that Dr Manmohan Singh must answer, explaining why he left the crucial issue of price to the judgment of the DMK minister alone.

The Maran brothers then fell out of M Karunanidhi's [ Images ] good books, and Dayanidhi Maran was replaced in the Union Cabinet by A Raja in May 2007. The change of personnel gave the prime minister no latitude in taking another look at policy.

On August 28, 2007 the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India [ Images ], TRAI, recommended that spectrum should be given at market prices, and that the ideal mechanism for determining these prices would be through auctions. This was rejected outright by A Raja's ministry.

The then Union law minister, H R Bhardwaj, gave his opinion that the entire issue of allotting spectrum should be considered by an empowered group of ministers. A Raja dismissed this advice as 'out of context'.

In November 2007 Pranab Mukherjee and Goolam E Vahanvati (then the solicitor general, now attorney general), met A Raja. The meeting apparently took place without H R Bhardwaj's knowledge.

Pranab Mukherjee and A Raja emerged from their encounter with completely different opinions, and both expressed these in writing to the prime minister.

On December 26, 2007 A Raja breezily informed Dr Manmohan Singh, 'I have already consulted the external affairs minister (Pranab Mukherjee) and the solicitor general of India and they have advised me that as a preemptive and proactive measure I can go ahead with the allocation of 2G spectrum space immediately.'

By coincidence or otherwise, the external affairs minister also wrote to the prime minister on Boxing Day of 2007. Where A Raja had written about the allocation of 2G spectrum, Pranab Mukherjee opined that it was essential for the department of telecommunications to issue norms, so that spectrum allotment would be as transparent as possible.

The difference is crucial. A Raja was talking about allotting spectrum as fast as possible; Pranab Mukherjee was saying that rules should be in place quickly.

While the prime minister dithered A Raja's ministry was going into overdrive. A mere fifteen days after these letters were written A Raja's ministry had given out no fewer than one hundred and twenty-two licences, not by auction as recommended but at the 2001 prices. The Comptroller & Auditor General subsequently calculated that the exchequer lost Rs 176,645 crore because of this.

The CBI on Thursday told the Supreme Court that it was probing the alleged involvement of Anil Ambani in the 2G spectrum allocation case. The premier investigative agency also said that it was going to probe further to find out the real beneficiaries in the 2G scam.

The CBI gave clean chit to Videocon Industries-owned Datacom in the multi-million scam.

The investigative agency refuted allegations that the Tata group gifted land to DMK family for favours in spectrum allocation. "Unlike Swan and Unitech, Datacom was eligible to get licence," the CBI told the apex court.

"Tata Teleservices was not favoured by former telecom minister A Raja," the CBI said.

If the CBI, as it claims, is investigating Anil Ambani, then, what is P. Chidambaram, as the Home minister doing meeting Anil Ambani in his office every Wednesday???

What Pranab ensured with this letter affair is that PC is damaged goods and cant make a claim to be the replacement for MMS. At same time he ensured he himself isn't too!

CBI today placed before the Supreme Court the Finance Ministry file on the issue of fixing the price of 2G spectrum in 2008 but it could not be taken on record and returned to the agency as some pages of the file were missing.

"Check the pages. Where are the running pages"? a bench of justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly said when it found that some pages were missing from the file.

After drawing the attention of the CBI counsel and senior advocate K K Venugopal, the bench returned the file asking the agency to take corrective measures.

However, during the brief perusal of the file, the bench said it was inherent in the note of the then Finance Seceretary, D Subba Rao that a suggestion was taken from the Army on the issue of spectrum.

The court also took note that there was a document to suggest that telecom regulator TRAI has written to the Department of Telecommunication about creating a level-playing field for the new entrant in the sector so that the new comers do not face pay more.

The bench also drew the attention of the CBI counsel that Subba Rao had written a letter in November 2007 about the pricing for efffective utilisation of spectrum.

The court had yesterday sought the files to examine whether Janata Party Chief Subramanian Swamys plea for a CBI probe into Home Minister P Chidambaram's role in 2G spectrum scam for fixing the price of radio waves on the rate of of 2001 in 2008.

The court was hearing Swamy's plea that CBI was not investigating Chidambaram's alleged culpability in jailed ex-telecom minister A Raja's decision not to auction spectrum.

On the basis of the March 25, 2011, Finance Ministry's note to the Prime Minister's Office that suggested that Chidambaram could have insisted on auction, Swamy argued for a CBI probe into a possible meeting of minds with Raja in fixing a low price for the spectrum bundled with licence.

P. Chidambaram seems to have turned away from his traditional role of aiding karporate interests to aiding just madam's interests + those of his son, family, muthukaruppan/murugesan whatever. Thus Pranab who is pretty close to Ambanis and the usual desi nexus allowed himself to be used as a tool to destroy Chidambaram. It was a risk and he did it knowing fully well the implications and consequences should this backfire.

The man who is going to head the transition to a future Rahul Gandhi government is tainted by scams six weeks before he is set to take over as principal secretary to the prime minister on October 3. File notings available with India Today show that Pulok Chatterji, a senior official in the PMO in 2007-08, was fully aware of A. Raja's dubious decision-making. One note written by Chatterji to Principal Secretary T.K.A. Nair and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh just four days before Raja conducted his contentious auction in January 2008 states, "New operators may be allotted spectrum only up to the threshold level on payment of the normal fees." In this note, Chatterji basically agrees that spectrum can be allotted on payment of normal fees- the existing uasl fee of Rs 1,658 crore- which is what the nine licensees forked out for a pan-Indian footprint.

On January 10, 2008, Raja gave out 122 out-of-turn licences after a melee at Sanchar Bhawan. An internal pmo file noting by Chatterji of January 11, 2008, states, "The PM says dot has issued licences today. This may be taken into account and the issues accordingly modified and submitted to him." Chatterji's note dated January 15 and subsequent file notings dated January 23, 2008, make the PM's position even more untenable. The noting says, "PM wants this informally shared with the dot. Does not want a formal communication and wants the pmo to be at arm's length." An email query to Chatterji went unanswered.

Chatterji also finds himself involved in the appointment of Suresh Kalmadi as CWG chief. As joint secretary in the PMO, Chatterji wrote a note on December 3, 2004, favouring Kalmadi's appointment citing the host city contract and precedent of the 1982 Asian Games. Chatterji's note said Kalmadi should head the OC, but recommended caveats to address concerns raised by then sports minister Sunil Dutt. Among them were establishing a gom headed by then hrd minister Arjun Singh and monitoring and supervising Commonwealth Games preparedness.

I am happy that you finally acted and went over the head of your Home Minister P.Chidambaram (who malafide vacillated), to order the arrest of Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry Mr.Ravi Inder Singh IAS., for betraying the country.

It is now high time for you to consider all my earlier letters regarding Mr.Chidambaram, regarding his being guilty of conduct unbecoming of a Minister. I had written to you earlier about his visiting massage parlours in a seedy Government hotel where Uzbeki girls frequent, driving off in jeans and dark glasses without a driver or anyone else to Greater Kailash in New Delhi-- without informing anyone, and beating up a Times of India photographer for taking pictures of him late night in a Bangalore discotheque and thereby fracturing his own toe in the scuffle. You may also be aware of what I wrote to you about a lady IAS officer in Finance Ministry whose husband (also IAS) had requested her transfer of posting because she was being harassed.

I have been recently informed by my friends in London that the British Intelligence MI-6 had video photographed Mr.Chidambaram while he in the company of an escort service European girl provided by an Indian company with which he has had a formal fiduciary relation, as a paid Director. You also must know that his 2009 elections to Lok Sabha is a complete fraud. His certificate of election from the Returning Officer was extracted under duress by the DMK CM, Mr.Karunanidhi despite Mr.Chidambaram losing the election by 7000 votes to the AIADMK candidate.

But now, it is disturbing to learn that your Government has through Mr.Chidambaram conveyed approval to J&K CM Omar Abdullah to allow return from PoK of all those who had left the troubled State since 1989.

This is a dangerous step that seems to have been decided by a back channel person who has been hell bent on India parting with J&K by hook or crook. It seriously undermines and jeopardizes the national security of the nation. It will help the ISI of Pakistan to better co-ordinate subversive and terrorist activities in India. The agencies of Pakistan have been meeting Omar Abdullah in Dubai and London. I never thought this promising youngster will go to seed like this. Who has been the baneful influence on him? In any case, I urge you overturn this decision.

Most of all, as a safeguard, I urge you to obtain the resignation of Mr.Chidambaram because has de-facto become a national security risk. He has consistently failed to concentrate on the work of the Ministry.

CBI as it now known is not exactly credible. left to CBI there would never be a 2G scam and they would have happily said No loss.

This is the agency which claimed in court to have spent 250 crore in trying to extradite MR Q when it actually spent only 5 Cr.

YSR and YSJ were supposed to clean and no basis of investigation until recently, suddenly in Oct 2011 the CBI suddenly finds that they were corrupt and are required to be probed/ investigated.
