the only way to mollify the Paks is to lean on the Yindoos. To simplify what he saysThus, just as it is difficult to see an end to the war in Afghanistan—and the neutralization of the Taliban sanctuaries more broadly—without a shift in the policies of Pakistan, it is equally difficult to envisage such changes occurring without shifts in the Indo-Pakistani relationship.
For Afghanistan to be pacified lean on Pakistan.
For Pakistan to be pacified lean on India.
We just need to extend the logic further and point to China. Our Government and babus should not shy away from naming China as the biggest threat to India and demand unacceptable concessions. The recent example of asking the pakis to join the FMCT is a step in the right direction IMHO. The rest will follow.
There are a set of people who relentlessly push the paki agenda. Instead of badmouthing them, we should camly use their own logic to hit them.

I know there are some fanatics on indian side as well though they are evenly negated by the sane minded people which are in bunch. The educated lot fights for the rights of every common citizen irrespective of their religion hence we see a upward trend in india’s growth. But the biggest and the most visible perk is the rural and urban land given out to serving and retired officers. They also get subsidies and other benefits to develop the land. The estimated worth of the legally acquired assets of Pakistan's generals, says Ms. Siddiqa, is in the range of $ 2.59 million-$ 6.9 million, based primarily on the value of rural and urban properties of these new land barons. The Pakistan military, as a single group, owns more land than any other institution or group, amounting to about 12 per cent of total state land. And unlike other state institutions, the military can convert this land for private usage. Farmland has been converted into land for laying golf courses or residential housing schemes. Of the 11.58 million acres of land under its control, more than half is owned by individual members of the armed forces, mainly officers. Agricultural land is regularly transferred from provincial governments to the Ministry of Defence, which is finally responsible for dividing the total land acquired at a given time amongst the three services, which then redistribute it among their individual members. Land entitlement varies from 240 acres for generals to 100 acres from lieutenants to majors to 32 acres for non-commissioned officers (NCOs). Many officers receive more than one urban plot of land. In 1994, eight such plots were allotted to the then DG ISI. She notes that Gen Pervez Musharraf bought farmland in Islamabad for Rs 40 million and a former DG ISI made Rs 100 million through the sale of his farmland.

He pointed to a hearing the Supreme Court has opened over a leaked memo as proof the court has been inconsistent. The memo allegedly asked the US to help Pakistan's civilian leaders to curb the power of the country's military. The scandal led to the resignation of Pakistan's ambassador to Washington and has increased tension between the military and the civilian government, threatening Mr Zardari's position.

Analysts believe some in the army leadership are determined to ease Mr Zardari out of office before the end of his term.ressure from the country's chief justice over the memo scandal could prove decisive. Mr Zardari spoke to supporters at the Bhutto family burial site in Sindh province, in his first public appearance since questions were raised about his health.

In the narrative, there is a comparison of the baloch struggle with the struggle for Bangladesh. Even though the desired results would be the same from India's perspective (i.e., independence), the Bangladeshi and Balochistani (Kalat) histories are different. Bengali Muslims overwhelmingly voted in favor of pukistan (being the main proponent for that land of the pure) whereas the Balochis did not. For a period of 9 months, Kalat was actually an independent state. Also, please do not forget where the "direct action" call against the Hindus first started. No Hindus died (AFAIK) in Kalat/Balochistan as a result of the partition.

Another 26/11 is a definite possibility, and I wouldn't be surprised if there has already been a considerable amount of intel buzz regarding this sort of risk. I visited Mumbai last month; South Mumbai, on a Saturday night (circa 12-1 AM) was absolutely dead. No people on the sidewalks; hardly any traffic; not even the paan-beedi shops were open, let alone bars/cinemas etc. There were well-armed Police naka-bandhis at every major intersection from VT to Worli.
No specific terror threat had been reported in the news to warrant a sudden clampdown, and people who live there tell me that this has been the general state of affairs downtown for several months. In general, I noticed a marked difference from my visits during Nov/Dec 2009 and 2010, when the city was bustling all through the night.
Well, it seems Mumbai at least will be ready this time.

Remembr I did say everyone is on red alert for war in the middle east. TSP is integral to defence of GCC. but for all that to happen you need PRC to keep India in check. Wasn't there news that PRC will have bases in Pak?
Thing is if Mushy got an appointment with King A, there must have been something serious (N Deal?) to discuss because normally the political file is handled by the GIP (intel) guys.

Karachi: Tension between Pakistan’s civil and military leadership over the memogate issue has reduced after the Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates governments contacted the PPP government and key opposition leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, a pro-establishment Pakistani newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The newspaper in its report said the contacts by the Arab dignities led to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s statement in which he expressed his satisfaction over the General Kayani’s role, a day after he delivered a fiery speech in the parliament, saying there could not be state within state, a direct allusion to country’s powerful military and ISI.
The newspaper reported the Saudis were concerned over the Pakistani government and Nawaz Sharif’s continued criticism of the army. It added that the Mr Sharif held a meeting with a Pakistan Army general in which they discussed situation emerging from memogate controversy.
The paper said the UAE and Saudi Arabia have also expressed their concerns over the Cabinet decision on removing army and ISI chiefs, adding that leaders from both the countries contacted the prime minister and eventually Gilani backed off from his decision.
Quoting diplomatic sources, the paper said that both the Arab countries wanted democratic set up to be continued in the nuclear armed nation, adding that the Saudi Arabia and UAE hailed Kayani’s pro-democracy remarks.
The PPP has changed its attitude and directed its leaders not to issue anti-establishment statements in the media following the messages from the foreign countries,” the report said.
The report further said that President Asif Ali Zardari’s speech in Larkana on the 4th death anniversary of her wife and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, tried to low the temperature.

Thrice before, Pakistan had created mischief. First it arrested Baradar. Next, it sent an impostor for Talks whom the unsuspecting US SEALs escorted all the way from Peshawar to Kabul. The impostor later turned out to be a Pakistani prisoner. Revised US ties made conditional on civil N-technology
Are the pakis pushing their luck too far?
And what does the US and NATO get in return? Perhaps a honorable exit.ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) on Wednesday finalised its draft recommendations for new terms of engagement with the United States and the future of Nato supplies from Pakistan. The Committee declared that the basis of the new relationship should be conditional on the agreement to transfer civil nuclear technology to Pakistan so that Pakistan could control its energy crisis.
The PCNS declared that greater access of Pakistani products to the US and European markets should be ensured. The PCNS met Wednesday with Mian Raza Rabbani in the chair here at the Parliament House. According to sources, the committee asked for a complete halt to drone attacks, ensuring respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan and a guarantee of the non-transgression of Pakistan’s frontiers in the future.
Sources said the draft proposal also sought a complete ban on Nato supplies from Pakistan. It was further said that bilateral relationships should be organised at an equal level and no drone attack will be carried out on the soil of Pakistan in the future.
Raza Rabbani, while talking to journalists after the meeting, said the committee had finalised draft recommendations for new terms of engagement with the US and matters relating to the suspension on Nato supplies. He said the recommendations were finalised through consensus.
To a question about the ISI chief’s meeting with US officials in Doha, Raza Rabbani said that the committee had no knowledge about it and the Foreign Office too was unaware of any such meeting.
Rabbani said the PCNS had summoned the finance minister and his team today (Thursday) to give a briefing on the financial implications on Pakistan if it opted for complete suspension of Nato supplies. “If we feel that any amendments are needed in the draft recommendations after the briefing by the Finance Ministry, we can make changes,” he told the media.
He said the committee had also summoned the secretaries of the Ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs next Tuesday to share the draft recommendations with them before handing them over to the government to be presented at the joint sitting of Parliament.

Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): 06 Dec 201
Pakistan transformed into a brutalised society
Murders of political leaders are nothing new in Pakistan. Even the Founder of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, died under mysterious circumstances. The first prime minister of the country, Liaquat Ali Khan, and twice elected prime minister Benazir Bhutto were gunned down in the Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, while it has been speculated that Prime Minister Hussein Shaheed Suhrawardy and Chief of the Army Staff General Asif Nawaz, a liberal general, were poisoned. The culprits were never apprehended.
Against this backdrop, the brutal murder of Punjab governor and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Salmaan Taseer by one of his own official guards on January 4 last year was symptomatic of the brutalisation of Pakistani society.
Pakistan was perceived by Mohammad Ali Jinnah as a secular, democratic welfare state, but ironically even when Jinnah was alive his speeches were censored by the Radio Pakistan on the instructions of bigots – and it has been documented by eminent journalist Zamir Niazi in his valuable book, “Press in Chains”.
The faith-fools have the fools by their tails, the reason for all this "rona dhona".Sectarianism and ethnicity was promoted by the despotic general and the heroin and Kalashnikov culture replaced the culture of love, harmony and hospitality that earlier prevailed in Pakistan. Right-wing parties such as the Jamaat-e-Islami collaborated with the military general and ‘Jihadi’ forces were promoted at the behest of the US government. It has been documented by the American scholars that the Afghan war against then Soviet Union was funded by drug money. No wonder ex-president Farooq Leghari said on the floor of the assembly that narco-money had penetrated so deep into Pakistan that it could overthrow any government.
Though General Ziaul Haq perished in an plane crash in August 1988, his legacy lingers and a tolerant, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic society has been brutalised so much so that neither the poor nor the elite feel safe. It was against this backdrop that Taseer was gunned down on January 4, 2011, and right-wing extremists raised a hue and cry in favour of the culprit, painting him a hero.
Sadly enough even the liberal forces that happen to be the silent majority turned a blind eye to the brutal murder of Taseer. One could hardly deny that the vast majority of silent spectators or liberals in Pakistan have been held hostage by a miniscule group of Mullahs because they have been better organised and armed to the teeth since Zia’s era.

Kayani off to China to buttress defence ties
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani left for China on Wednesday in what is seen as a crucial development in the backdrop of changing security dynamics in this region.
An official statement says General Kayani left for Beijing on a five-day official visit at the invitation of Chinese authorities. The event is widely seen in sequel to Pakistan’s initiative for reviewing rules of engagement with the US amid its ongoing row with the Western military alliance just days after Pakistan’s military rejected the findings of a NATO launched probe into Mohmand Agency attack on two military pickets in November last year.
Some important defence pacts consensus on which is likely to be arrived at during the aforesaid visit include Pak-China border security cooperation, proposed anti-drug trafficking measures and joint military exercises.
In addition, it is learnt, the Pak-China border security cooperation entails bilateral agreements on joint border patrolling, surveillance and intelligence information exchange to stop the infiltration of illegal immigrants from both sides of the Gilgit-Baltistan-Xinjiang border and bilateral understandings on defence production.
Military cooperation in this regard is reportedly finalised between China‘s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Northern Light Infantry (NLI), an operational regiment of Pakistan Army deputed in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The proposed enhanced cooperation between PLA and NLI is widely perceived as part of Pakistani security establishment’s counter narrative strategy against its hostile relationship with the allies amid the US reported reservations over NLI’s close collaboration with the Chinese Army.
