So it seems very obvious from this pic that this conical third stage delivers the true multirole capability and Mach20++ velocity to A5; being the reason they might have made it conical :?: .
V.K. Saraswat, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, told The Hindu, the launch will mark a “historic day.” “Agni-V is a game-changer and a technological marvel. It is a weapon which can perform multiple functions.” It could be used for anti-satellite capability, for putting micro and nano satellites in orbit and carry multiple warheads.
^^
I think this A5 Third stage + RV is a real game changer; loitering class of vehicle cruising at hypersonic speeds through exoatmosphere (SPACE) in a depressed trajectory BEFORE reentering with the payload in its terminal phase into the atmosphere. Also who knows this A5 TS+RV might be a technology demonstrator for our space based Kinetic Attack Loitering Interceptor (KALI).

Also without doubt from his statements, its quite obvious that A5 is our first true CARRIER KILLER ICBM :D ; an answer to the chinese DF31. I also doubt this might be one among the reason why DRDO postponed the A5 test from last year after chinese demonstrated their ASAT and AntiCarrierICBM ambitions. So by doing postponed the tests we might have incorporated all this capabilities into a single A5 that can be used as multirole missile with far greater accuracy of its class in the world :-? .

the problem is the conical 3rd stage cannot support the ogival nosecone needed for a MIRV payload.

it will need a new 3rd stage for MIRV..compare to any modern icbm
http://images.vunet.org/topol_m_type_ru ... _sosia.jpg

but for a basic MARV with its own fuel store, this big unitary RV maybe needed.

As per this animation, only part of the third stage is conical. The rest is cylindrical.

I think, the shroud perhaps is for a single dose.. and half of it should be considered for taking up the 5K* reentry heat. And the model should have corrected for Mirv10, they would expect that be part of more off the third stage that could be housed in the RV.. so, instead of the nose being detached, nose + maal goes for the 10 different focal point. Now, the third stage needs those modifications, if each of the independent maal carrier gets flex nozzle.

Agni-V set to soar today
In case of any technical delay or problem posed by the weather, the launch is likely to be postponed to Thursday morning.
The pre announced Tests are too testing of the Jingo's heart, no more announcements before tests.

quietly collecting signatures data from the distinguished members of the audience.

A5 also carries a sunsui dvd player with Don2 DVD that starts playing moment of liftoff and broadcasts to a satellite. Khan and Panda sniffers who breathlessly intercept and analyse it live in the situation room with director level people having their morning black coffee will be treated to king khan smoking ganja and watching his molly dance in the lounge bar ... all the telemetry they want

in any case Cobra ball is supposed to be able to track RV as it plunges down, so they can make own conclusions about trajectory and speed.

the very high level of pre-announcement even for a 1st shot with photos and countdowns is unusual....must be some message behind it.....kind of pulling apart the kimono to show what lies within.

That hindu pic showing a nuclear physicist wearing shirt gives a message too. I am happy nobody complained on the loose strap taking the A5 load on that pic.

I see this postponing by hours is to let the sniffing sats waste their fuel :P

I believe unkil will be praying for the success of A-V as well, while chinks will be making constant flybys with their sats.

The United States and India held their fifth regional dialogue on the Asia-Pacific region here on Tuesday during which the situation in South China Sea was discussed at length, said government sources

I love the timing of the launch though.

Agree with you saar.

Contrast this with how A4 was tested as A2-AT only to be renamed after the successful shot! Similar deception wrt Shaurya and Sagarika with all those so called Prithvi tests.
It is as if the DRDO and GoI have invited khans and the chinis to witness and record all they want.

yeah they had airbases in assam ... places like jorhat , tezpur, chabua date from those days....mainly DC3 dakotas but other types too like B24 liberators converted to cargo ops iirc. they flew over eastern arunachal to yunnan & sichuan province and back to supply the KMT. lots must have crashed due to bad weather and mountains upto 10,000ft high. I saw a book once about this operation...range after range of rolling hills in the photos with peculiar stone towers that the native people of sichuan erect in their villages and on ridgelines.

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2008 ... 884964.htm

http://www.wmf.org/project/stone-towers-southwest-china

erected more than a 1000 yrs ago, these noble beasts have seen the coming and going of civilizations, despots and saints, tyrants and reformers, the rise and fall of man....and they shall remain long after we are gone....
