Well, thats funny! Why the hell does paki navy need Nano cars?

It makes one thing clear, in public they pretend they have nothing but contempt for Indian products. But, secretly they admire anything and everything Indian.

Kishji - Nano costs Rs. 1 lakh onlee and is the cheapest available car in the market. No need for expensive Toyotas to be used as car bombs. Fauj is trying to tighten its belt with cost cutting measures for non-state actors expense reimbursement onlee. :D

The army there is engaged in side business. Seriously and not meant sarcastically. Nano could just be an exchangeable commodity for further profits.

Trade deficit swells by 45pc to $17.64b
I m ran Allin Kundi
ISLAMABAD - The country’s trade imbalance has swelled by over 45 percent during the first ten months (July-April) of the outgoing financial year 2011-12 chiefly due to higher import bill in the period under review.
According to latest figures released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Thursday, the country trade deficit has recorded at $17.649 billion in July-April 2011-12 period as against $ 12.171 billion on July-April 2010-11 showing a huge increase of over 45 per cent in just one year. The trade deficit had crossed the annual target of $13.5 to $14 billion with still two months to go in the outgoing fiscal year. The PBS figures showed that country’s exports had recorded negative growth of over three per cent during the first ten months of the outgoing financial year, as it had recorded at $19.393 billion in the period under review against the $20.092 billion of same period last year. On the other hand, country’s imports had increased by 14.81 per cent in one year, as it has recorded at $37.042 billion in July-April 2011-12 against $32.263 billion of July-April 2010-11. Therefore, the trade deficit remained at higher side of $17.649 billion in July-April period of 2011-12 against $12.171 billion of same period last year. The Commerce Ministry officials held international economic situation responsible for the widening trade deficit of the country, as according to them prices of importable commodities like oil is on the increasing trend in international market contrary to the declining prices of our exportable goods. The prices of textile made commodities had decreased in international market that made impossible for Pakistan to achieve last year exports level of $25 billion during the outgoing financial year.

Printline Pakistan

Battle for Karachi

Since the start of the year, as recorded in this column, Pakistan’s commercial engine, Karachi, has witnessed target-killings. Covert wings of the city’s three main political rivals, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Awami National Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement, and Sindhi and Baloch nationalists are allegedly responsible for the violence.

Karachi’s Naib Nazim (an administrative post) Malik Muhammad Khan was shot dead in Lyari (a district in Karachi) while protesting Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s conviction for contempt of court earlier this month. The federal government’s help was invoked and the Pakistan Army Rangers took charge of the city and launched what is now being called the “Lyari Operation”. Last week, federal interior minister Rehman Malik termed Lyari’s situation similar to that of Swat a couple of years back. Dawn reported last week that President Asif Zardari had directed the Rangers, local police and other security forces to join in a large-scale attempt to stamp out the violence “across the board”.

Normal life was disrupted following the violence, which claimed 40 lives. Lyari’s public transport, schools, colleges and hospitals, all suffered. The News on May 9 carried the new date sheet for Class IX exams in the troubled area. The Express Tribune reported on May 10 that Tariq Kamal, assistant chief reporter of a Sindhi newspaper, was kidnapped and later killed.

MISSING IN ACTION

THE ghost of Pakistan’s “missing persons” has raised its head again. Some time back, the Supreme Court had questioned security agencies about their whereabouts. Last week, Daily Times had reported that Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, while hearing the cases of missing person, gave the Balochistan chief secretary and top cops a deadline of two weeks to produce the missing persons before the court. As time went by, these “missing persons”, as though by magic, traced the way to their homes. Daily Times reported on May 10 that seven of them were brought back home. Balochistan has the highest number of missing persons, followed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. The issue was also raised in the Senate on May 10, reported The Express Tribune website.

FALSE ALARM

THE EXPRESS TRIBUNE on May 10 carried a story that qualifies as a rejoinder to news carried in the Indian media. The story stated: “The Mumbai Police on Wednesday released photographs of three alleged terrorists, out of five, that it claimed belonged to banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and had entered Mumbai. The three, however, are present in Lahore, with two of them running businesses and one serving as a security guard at the city’s famed electronics market Hafeez Centre.” The men were identified as Atif Butt and Mehtab Butt, and Baber. It turns out that Atif came across his photograph and a report on an Indian magazine’s website while browsing the Net.

According to media reports, the International Council of Jurists (ICJP) has conferred the “prestigious” International Jurists Award, 2012 on Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, in recognition of his contributions to the administration of justice.

When the Pakistan Analysis correspondent rang the land line contact number on the ICJ Website which is +0044 20 7799 1688:
“Hello! It is Singhania & Co”
A nice feminine voice sweetened the ears.
Further investigations revealed that the so called “International Council of Jurists” is nothing more than “An Indian Company”. Most Paradoxically, Mr Iftikhar Chaudhry is its Vice President and going to receive award himself!

A fair but pointless question. The usual chest beating and all inclusive "South Asia" blame game.

At a time when America was enmeshed in the unpopular Vietnam War, he told me, budding US scholars found the nation of Gandhi more appealing than the one mired in military dictatorship. The US counterculture’s affinity for India was a factor as well, he adds. Today, America still has nothing like the Centre for the Study of Pakistan at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.

What's he talking about? In the US, the Centre for the Study of Pakistan is all over the place. The students are generally about 1 to 2 years old. Not only that, there's even adult centres of study of Pakistan spread all over the US. Matter of fact, people study about the Pakistan all over the world, not just the United States.

Saying goodbye: 22-year-old Saheli passes away at Islamabad zoo
An elephant’s life is 90 to 110 years of age, unfortunately Saheli was 22 years old and lived a short life at the zoo.

Stuffed

Dr Saleem Sulheri, a veterinarian at the zoo, said that the body will be buried and the fossils will be extracted for preservation at Pakistan Museum of Natural History in Shakarparian.

The display of the elephant’s skeleton would add another attraction to Islamabad, as recently a whale shark was brought here from Karachi to after it was found dead on seashore.

On How President Musharaff won Sanad I Imtiaz in 1965 war?
Mush was posted as a lieutenant in Sialkot sector in 1965 war. In the middle of the night his troops were battered by Indian artillery. The field gun, in Mushys unit, got fire in that action, and Mushy removed the ammunition, before the gun could explode, saving lives.

He goes around saying, that he was involved as a commando, in the special forces during 65 war, and his act of valour, cannot be made public!

Budget 2012-13: Pakistan includes $1.1b in evasive coalition support

Desperate times ahead, the begging bowl is out.

ISLAMABAD:
The coalition’s support may not be forthcoming but that has not stopped Pakistan from including $1.1 billion in the next year’s budget as reimbursements from the United States on account of the Coalition Support Fund (CSF).

Sources say it may be indicative of a thaw in frozen ties between the war-on-terror allies.

..

For the current fiscal, authorities had budgeted $1.34 billion, or Rs118.7 billion, on account of CSF reimbursement but the US has not released the amount yet, linking it with reopening of the Nato supply lines. Outstanding CSF dues at present amount to $2.5 billion.

Some sources, however, say that the finance ministry’s budgeting of the CSF indicates that both the sides have arrived at an agreement.

...

There are unconfirmed reports that an understanding on tax on Nato containers has also been arrived at.

“The [US and Pakistan] have resolved the outstanding issues,” said a western diplomat on condition of anonymity. The US could offer compensations to the families of deceased soldiers blood money according to Islamic law, he said.

The US was ready to apologise till April 15, but the attacks in Kabul inside the heavily-fortified red zone changed that, he added. No direct link has been established between the attack and elements from within Pakistan.

“Both Pakistan and the US officials have been negotiating for the last ten days,” said Secretary Finance Abdul Wajid Rana in a parliamentary committee meeting.

He said negotiations were going on for release of $400 million, “but still there are risks”. He did not explain the nature of risks.

Rana said there were indications that $400 million could be released before June, provided some of the issues are resolved.

Since June 2010, the US has not disbursed any amount and after May 2011 attacks Pakistan has not billed CSF claims, the secretary said.

“So far, we are calculating $400 million in our non-tax revenues for this fiscal,” said Rana Assad Amin, spokesperson for the finance ministry. The amount is only 30% of the original budget estimates.

A unique video, Barka (Indian liberal?) vs LaWhori Ejaj and RAPE Moeed (both of whom claim to be realists but are RAPE).

This is a case of friendly fire, I thought Paki right liked Indian left.

I don't hold Barka in high respect but BRAVO lady for calling out the Pakis on their perfidy.

LaWhori Ejaj applies LaWhori logic and concludes Hilary's $10 million bounty on Hafiz 'Pig' Saeed has to do with getting access to Indian retail markets and to persuade India to reduce its imports from Iran. How despeately the two RAPEs want to assosciate Paki geo-strategic importance nuisance to Secretary's trip India trip. The only time Pakistan was mentioned in the joint press conference of our FM and Secretary of State was when Sec said that Pakistan should do more and not allow its territory to be used a launch pad for global Jihad.

As a matter of fact, Barkha never really asked about Pakistan in that interview, it was Secretary of State who brought in the al zawahiri issue and than clarified State Department's position on Hafiz 'Pig' Saeed.

I can't believe I am defending Barkha.

PS - I strongly condemn PTV's grave provocation of putting a younger pic of Barkha on their show. The Indian nahshun will never forget this. 8)

Pak 'terrorism accountability' bill introduced in US Congress

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/pakistan/Pak-terrorism-accountability-bill-introduced-in-US-Congress/articleshow/13107455.cms

"Pakistan has for decades leveraged radical terrorist groups to carry out attacks in India and Afghanistan," Congressman Dana Rohrabacher said introducing the 'Pakistan Terrorism Accountability Act of 2012'.

The legislation would require the Department of Defence to list all Americans killed by terrorist groups operating with impunity inside Pakistan and Afghanistan and supported by elements of Pakistani government.

For each person killed, USD 50 million would be subtracted from US foreign assistance to Pakistan -- a requested USD 2.2 billion -- and given to the victim's family.

Sri Lanka not to host Pakistan-Australia series

Sri Lanka has dropped plans to host a limited overs series between Pakistan and Australia in August as it clashes with the island's Premier League, Pakistani cricket officials said Saturday.

"It's disappointing," Pakistan Cricket Board's chief operating officer, Subhan Ahmed, told AFP.

"Initially the SLC (Sri Lankan Cricket) offered to host the series and we stopped negotiating with others."

Since Sri Lanka told Pakistan of its decision Friday, Pakistan had started negotiations with other countries about hosting the series, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia, he said.

"We are looking for other venues to host Australia... and hope to finalise it soon," said Ahmed.

Hiten, oh no. This is chankian diplomacy of the highest order to wean away Pakistan from the Chinese influence. You see, TSP is no longer a threat but the two-front war is a looming likelihood and our diplomacy and statecraft now is directed towards taking Pakistan on our side so that the two-front war is blunted. When Sri Lanka and BD refuse to play Pakistan or host series, India's offer is like manna and must generate enormous goodwill. That goodwill shall translate into more trade, less negativism and therefore less terrorism.

Veena Malik's intimate pictures create furore in Pakistan

Pakistani actress and Bollywood wannabe Veena Malik has been successful in attracting eyeballs, but like always, this time round too, she's making news for the wrong reason!

After sending out a shock wave across Pakistan with some of her startling images that showcased Veena cosying up with an unknown person, who was later identified as director Hemant Madhukar, who is making a 3D horror film with her, now, the starlet is being slammed in her own country.

The images that indicated that both Veena and the director were in high spirits and were too cosy to be called just an item, have not gone down too well in Pakistan. And, reportedly some right-wing Islamists have demanded action against Veena for sipping alcohol in public (the pictures show Veena drinking alcohol).

That's not all, some Indian Muslim groups have also expressed their displeasure at Veena's pictures and have sternly advocated that she should be sent back to her country.

Well, with both Indians and Pakistanis slamming her, wonder what Veena's going to do for damage control?

You see, TSP is no longer a threat but the two-front war is a looming likelihood and our diplomacy and statecraft now is directed towards taking Pakistan on our side so that the two-front war is blunted. When Sri Lanka and BD refuse to play Pakistan or host series, India's offer is like manna and must generate enormous goodwill. That goodwill shall translate into more trade, less negativism and therefore less terrorism.

But Indo-Pak trade is slightly negatively correlated with subsequent conflict. Increase in trade is more likely to follow with increasing conflict. The "trade reduces conflict" is not empirically universally supported for all pairs of countries.

I really don't see anything extraordinary in that VM pic. That is standard at any nightclub or party in India. That sort of picture maybe clicked even between not intimate persons. People in a group just having fun and a chilled time. But for a nation fed on goats and sheep..i guess frustration at seeing someone having fun runs high.

Kerry warns Pak to be more cooperative
Chacha Chodhri: Bole Paki Bole Terra Kaun Abba

WASHINGTON: Top American Senator has warned Pakistan that the US would have no other option but to resort to “self-help” if Islamabad does not become more cooperative in the war against terrorism.
Such a warning, ahead of the Chicago summit later this month which is expected to take crucial discussions related to Afghanistan, came from none other than Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee and architect of the Kerry-Lugar-Berman Bill that allotted USD 7.5 billion to Pakistan for five years.“I personally think it is simply unacceptable to have a zone of immunity for acts of war against armed forces and against the collective community that has tried to accomplish what it has tried to accomplish,” Kerry said in his remarks at a Congressional hearing convened by him on the upcoming NATO Summit in Chicago.
That means Pakistan has to become more assertive and more cooperative, and we may have to resort to other kinds of self-help, depending on what they decide to do,” said Kerry, who in the Obama Administration is considered to be the best friend of Pakistan. Several times in the past three years, Kerry has flown to Pakistan to troubleshoot when all other means had failed , be it the Raymond Davis Case or the helicopter that got damaged in the Osama bin Laden raid at Abbottabad a year ago. Such a remark coming from Kerry is reflective of the changing mood in the United States particularly at a time when the two countries are holding crucial negotiations on the reopening of the ground lines of communications and other related issues between them

More pictures in the below link

Furore in Pak over Veena Malik sipping alcohol in public with Indian director

But thats not the reason why posted this link. There is an interesting quote at the end

The city qazi of Lucknow Maulana Abul Irfan Miyan told India TV that the protests against Veena Malik in Pakistan were justified, and the Pakistani actress should be sent back to her country.

Veena Malik is on a working visa in Mumbai to act in Bollywood films.

"These pictures are not those of a religious Muslim woman. These pictures appear to be those of Jewish and Christian women", said the city qazi.

As we already know in BRF, Pakiness is a state of mind and there are many Pakis within India.

Interesting to see the distinguished panel of Pakis parse Hillary Clinton's Kolkata visit. Just look at the video of her photo op with the sound off-genuinely friendly reception, 800 flashes going off, Clinton flushed with delight.

And then compare it with her reception and her body language in Pakistan.

One is reminded of the 'ram-rod straight PA men and officers' who looked like being 'straight out of a Hollywood movie' impressing Americans like Nixon or John Foster Dulles or LBJ. All that seems gone forever.

But, many Indian Muslim wimmen actors have done (and continue to do) much worse than what these photos showed. Where has been this Qazi ? Or, is it that only wimmens from the 'Land of the Pure' must behave modestly based on the justifciation of the 'Two Nation Theory' ?
