Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): 29th May 2012
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): 29th May
Scanning the eight top headlines of todays Daily Times, one is happy to know that it was a quite normal day in the land of the pure. Two headlines described how the Ummah in this wonderful country takes care of fellow Muslims of various sects and regions in the country, to wit:
Punjabis targeted in Turbat, 18 shot dead, Victims include 14 from Punjab, Baloch Liberation Tigers accepts responsibility
and
Sunni scholar shot dead in Quetta
Two talk about how Bakistanis amuse and entertain the rest of the world when they emigrate there, well because you can move a Baki to UK, but you can never take the Bakiness out of him:
Seven British-Pakistanis held on terror suspicion
and
30,000 illegal Pakistanis ‘missing’ in United Kingdom, Pakistan High Commission clueless about missing people, UK authorities say missing people were refused permission to stay in UK
Three of them concern a very important subject, namely Baki Ech and Dee. The first headline describes how a diplomat from big, bad USA has trampled Baki izzat:
No new agreement with Pakistan: Hoagland
the other two headlines show how Bakistan has fought back and taught the superpower a lesson or two:
Pakistan to scan all NATO supply containers
Railways won’t transport NATO supplies: minister
Since the newspaper also has to cover boring, mundane everyday topics, the last headline:
PM reshuffles eight federal secretaries
Punjabis targeted in Turbat, 18 shot dead, Victims include 14 from Punjab, Baloch Liberation Tigers accepts responsibility
and
Sunni scholar shot dead in Quetta

I don't know who Ilan Berman is but he suffers from the same cognitive bias that has been shown up in Western scholarship in the Out of India thread. It's like this:Acharya wrote:Once the lobby power reached its limit the real information is coming out

That direction isn't necessarily Islamist; the same Pew center poll found 55 percent of respondents to view al-Qaeda unfavorably (the same percentage as in 2011), and largely-negative attitudes toward the Taliban and its various factions to be more or less unchanged from previous years. China, by contrast, is seen by 90 percent of Pakistanis as an ally, particularly against regional rival India.
In Mr Berman's mind he reasons as follows " I think Al Qaeda is Ialamist. I know Pakistanis are not Islamists. So if I ask Pakis whether they like Al Qaeda or not I will instantly know if they are Islamists on not" This level of cretinism goes right up to he White House in America.
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): 29th May
Is Pakistan Islamist or not?

Wanted to share an interesting fact that I came across accidently last week. I work in washington DC pretty close to where all embassies are located. Most countries have their embassies located on Massacheusetts Ave. India has 2 old buildings via which it runs its operations. Its not huge by any standards. Most countries including many european countries have similar sized offices. The other place where embassies are located is call Van Ness Ave. This is like few miles away and most embassies here are custom built and lot bigger in sizes. The biggest I have seen is Japanese embassy and them as I walked down the street I saw a huge building with C Asian blue tiled arches built so was curious who had built it. Walked towards the front of the building and was shocked it belonged to pakis. it is sandwitched between Malaysian, UAE & Nigerian embassies (all smaller than pakis but still larger than Indian) across the street is chinese embassy & pakis jaani dushman the yahudis. I was amazed at the size and how modern the embassy looked with seperate entrances for visa seekers as well as other diplomatic staff. My wonder was who in this world paid for this custom building in such prime location. How are pakis managing to run such a large show. And if DC is the biggest embassy of pakis how do they utilize their staff in projecting their rentier image. I see a big disconnect between aam joe on street I speak with and the statements coming out from foggy bottom or pennsilvania ave. Any more experienced members can add light

The Mohammadden Sabbath of Friday sees yet more killing in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. This time around a cleric belonging to the majority Sunni sect of Mohammaddenism is targeted.
Why is it that the Mohammadden Sabbath on Friday rather than exerting a calming influence seems instead to incite a significant minority of Mohammaddens in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to violence

I can't answer your specific question, but this is a modern day example of how Aurangzeb or the Nizam of Hyderabad were filthy rich while poverty and want was the norm around them. For the Macaulay in us, I would use the French Aristocracy example of Marie Antoinette at the time of the French revolution. The Pakistan army and government are_extremely_rich. That is at the expense of other Pakis. The manicured lawns and tasteful architecture in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad are the Pakistan that the rich want others to see - as is the custom built embassy. There is a culture of ostentatious symbolism of "If mine looks bigger, I am better" that is rampant in the US, and Pakis have figured that out. Pakistanis understand America far better than Americans understand Pakistan. Mostly we are so unwilling to give Pakistan credit against America that we will rarely admit that, although on BRF we are always happy to say Pakistanis are more clever than Indians. There is an inherent conclusion in that argument that I will post in microscopic text because it is OT for this post and any debate would have to go in an appropriate thread under hijab.Brad Goodman wrote:Wanted to share an interesting fact that I came across accidently last week. If Pakis are smarter than Indians and Americans are smarter than Pakis, it follows that Indians are the least smart of the lot.

GoP owns a few properties in Washington D.C. The embassy was moved to its latest address during the 'tight buddy' times of Bush & Musharraf. I suspect that all the properties were funded by the GoTUS.

More fun. Pakis will rejoice, no doubt, at their Afghan brothers also getting the same brotherly designation.

Ms Clinton added: "We are not even imagining abandoning Afghanistan."
The last country to be granted major non-Nato ally status was Pakistan in 2004.
The designation allows for streamlined defense cooperation, including expedited purchasing ability of American equipment and easier export control regulations. Afghanistan's military, which is heavily dependent on American and foreign assistance, already enjoys many of these benefits. The non-NATO ally status guarantees it will continue to do so.

Actually my Pet dream is Pakis Build a 100 storey Mosque which costs 15 Billion to contruct and 1 Billion to Maintain. As a trade off they should close down Paki railways, 4-5 power plants sell all stock, rails etc as scrap metal, reduce funding to education.
I would Much Paki Afsars with SHiny uniform and Shiny unused, unpracticed Inventory and most of thier defence budget going in for that purpose of making things look shining.

Yes Niran. I remember this incident too. The jinns across the border know how to market themselves and in the process have the yanquis by the short hairs. In strategic parlance, they know what weak spots the other guy has and leverage it.niran wrote:during 50ies when the yankee embassy was being built in islamabad the construction had to be stopped midway due to(pliss to be holding something tight) opposition from Jinn baba, no amount of chadder-al-peshi or jinn busting could not restart the constructionBrad Goodman wrote:Wanted to share an interesting fact that I came across accidently last week.<snip> members can add light

Even better if the mosque is new-clear powered
It can be named Atomi-Riyasat-Sunnat-E-Waqf-ittehadul-Pakisatani-Elites-(Masjid) Sialkot
Anyway we need a new term for Bakistanis machine gunning down each other something on the lines of IED mubarak

Nothing!!!! According to Hina Rabbani Khar and other clarifications given by the talking heads on Pakistan TV, *unilateral* drone targeting and execution by the US is what is being objected to. Drones can and will be operated "jointly" with Pakistan. Check the July 4th and 5th shows hereSSridhar wrote:TSP closed the transit routes for 9 months, demanded unconditional & unqualified apology from the US etc when the last set of 24 were killed. This just my thoughts, but it appears that the US and Pakistan will operate on a Quid-Pro-Quo basis. For each Afghan Talib or a Haqqani Network person killed, Pakistan will demand a TTP guy liqudated

The Paki ability to lie is without match. Edit in the paper that calls itself "Eyes and Ears of Pakistan" and "Widely Read and Trusted Daily":

Two army divisions worth of terrorists killed , two army divisions worth arrested, and three army divisions of arms recovered. And Pakistan is "helping" the war on terror. Yeah. I can see that.SRINAGAR, India, July 6 (UPI) -- Since 1990 the Indian military has seized enough weaponry in Kashmir "to equip two to three army divisions."
An army officer speaking on condition of anonymity said the government of Jammu and Kashmir security forces have seized 30,752 AK-series assault rifles, 11,431 pistol and revolvers, 1,027 universal machine guns, 2,262 rocket propelled grenade launchers, 391 sniper rifles and hundreds of other weapons, including light machine guns and self-loading rifles along with ammunition, 63,000 grenades and massive amounts of explosives, the Telegraph newspaper reported Thursday.
The officer said the recovered arms and ammunition was enough to equip 30,000 soldiers, remarking: "A conventional army division has around 10,000 men and officers. The seized weapons would form the basic nucleus of weapons in two to three divisions and will meet their requirement of small arms, automatic weapons or ant-tank capability."
Since 1990, 21,449 militants have been killed and 21,655 arrested in Jammu and Kashmir, while security forces have lost more than 5,300 soldiers. In the cross-fire more than 16,000 civilians have also been killed.

Before it was state actors. Now it is non-state actors onlee! As usual, the non state actors are not Pakistanis, but will manage to have passports and NIC cards. Pakistan is also a victim of non state actors and the rest of the world needs to do more to understand the sensitivites of Pakistan.SSridhar wrote:TSP closed the transit routes for 9 months, demanded unconditional & unqualified apology from the US etc when the last set of 24 were killed. Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan (TSP): 29th May
Shivji, you are displaying your small hearted, hindu bania zehniyat. These were not terrorists! They were freedom fighters rising up spontaneously against the Hindu army oppression! Pakistan is at the fore front on the war of (sic) terror and is a key, two-timing, non NATO ally. Pakistan provides moral and diplomatic support and takes a principled stand in its support of freedom fighters. All that arms was an inside job of RAW and the Indians.shiv wrote:Just a little data point that I have now archived in my voluminous Pakistan archives. On Thursday, the stepfather of the missing actor, Pervez Tak, confessed to murdering Laila and four family members during interrogation in another case. He said their bodies had been disposed of near Mumbai.
Laila, her mother Saleena Begum and three other family members have been missing since February 2011. Police, however, said the murder theory could not be confirmed till they had sufficient evidence to corroborate Tak’s claims.
Saleena’s third husband, Tak, is a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba member, who was nabbed in Kishtwar on June 21.

1) Of the terrorists killed or arrested, how many are foreign? for TSP, Kashmiris are just cannon fodder
2)
we have these movements
LTTE (finished)
Khalistan (finished),
J&K (last leg?)
Maoist (still raging)
NE (on the back burner)
Number of security forces killed in each of these counter insurgency cases will see a downward trend overtime when narrowed to the timeline of each insurgency
However, when you draw the timeline across all insurgencies, that trend isn't consistent, there are spikes at the starting or the middle phases of each insurgency (the inflexion point is when number killed on both sides is consistently in favor of the security forces and the morale of the insurgents lower level cadre saps enough to retrospect and see through the brainwashing from their leaders)
so, the question is do we have a national or institutional memory of tactics and equipment for security forces? in which case the trend of security forces killed should remain downward even with new insurgencies enabling them to reach those inflexion points quicker
some time back there was this neat characterization of TSP dictators going through different phases before the next one starts it all over again, maybe we should build such cycle to insurgencies as well
3) And why such cycle wouldn't work for Taliban in Afganistan?

What's Wrong with Pakistan?
Apologies if already postedPerversity characterizes Pakistan. Only the worst African hellholes, Afghanistan, Haiti, Yemen, and Iraq rank higher on this year's Failed States Index. The country is run by a military obsessed with -- and, for decades, invested in -- the conflict with India, and by a civilian elite that steals all it can and pays almost no taxes.
