Military Multimedia - Indian Armed Forces
Re: Military Multimedia Content
^^ Seems to be a massive improvement and increase in Garud equipment profile compared to the earlier sneak peek during Rocky and Mayur show 2 years back!

Excellent show... this guy Rajeev Ranjan rocks... his simple rustic hindi, along with the great access he has been given by IAF makes this an amazing episode to watch. the quantum leap in Garud's firepower as well as tit-bits about their responsibilities gladdened my heart.Nikhil T wrote:NDTV : Garuds Rajeev Ranjan
Garus are the desi SOARs!!!
I always wondered why Garuds never participated in any exercise with other foreign forces, any ideas gurus?
Re: Military Multimedia Content
No, they do. Garuds have participated in Ex Red Flag (2008?) and in IAF-French Air Force (Ex Garuda).Shrinivasan wrote:Excellent show... this guy Rajeev Ranjan rocks... his simple rustic hindi, along with the great access he has been given by IAF makes this an amazing episode to watch. the quantum leap in Garud's firepower as well as tit-bits about their responsibilities gladdened my heart.Nikhil T wrote:NDTV : Garuds Rajeev Ranjan

Re: Military Multimedia Content
Guys,
Check out this excellent 4 part series documentary about Su-27 Flanker family. Found the links on another forum.
Don't miss Part 2 for footage of P-42 platform used to break several world records. The very short take-off run is impressive. Also Part 4 contains amazing but seen before footage of Su-30MKI maneuvers in good quality. Part 4 also contains some good footage of Russian Air-ground guided bombs/missiles.
Su-27 The best fighter in the world
Edit: This documentary is as good as any American fighter doc on Discovery or Military Channel.

Re: Military Multimedia Content
I guess it belongs here:
Su-30 at Mach 2 without canopy:
(Is it 27 or 30 and is it true ?)
Those photos are real and were made during the filming of the Russian movie involving jet fighter stunts. In one episode they had to film the jet without a canopy, so rather to film it on the ground they decided to hire a high-class pilot to make a real flight without that glass thing. He had to take off a few times on such plane in order to film enough material to be included in the final footage.
“The maximum speed I achieved on the jet plane without a canopy glass was around two times greater than speed of sound. While on this speed I even managed to pull out my fingers in glove for an inch or two outside – it became heated very fast because of immense friction force plane undergoes with the air.“, writes the pilot.

Ouch to the Ejection.
The g-forces experienced are mind boggling. My cousin ejected at Gwalior and just managed to stay in the squadron, unlike Nachiketa who had more a greater impact on his spine.
The rule of thumb is that a pilot's backbone/ spine/ vertebrae can only survive a maximum of two to three (if you are lucky) ejections
if he just ejected twice for the movie..... well a career limiting move.
Must have been the Vodka before the flight

Re: Military Multimedia Content
x-post from newbie dhaga..
I was watching a AC landing incident where a F-18 Hornet pilot had to eject when the arresting cable snapped after landing and jet rolled and fell in front of the AC....I was wondering when the pilot ejected in front of a moving AC from a falling jet... is he not between rock and a hard place? I mean how can he survive that massive 70,000 ton ship coming straight at him? I am pretty sure there is a way just want to know the procedure.
here is the video...

Re: Military Multimedia Content
The seat would have boosted the pilot high into the air, and when the chute deployed, he would land on the aircraft carrier or behind it. The fallen jet would have been pummelled by the carrier if it didn't sink fast enough. I feel bad for the deck crew, that arrestor cable most likely dismembered a few legs.Prithwiraj wrote:x-post from newbie dhaga..

Re: Military Multimedia Content
I think carrier landings are always on the oblique runway so that a ditch will not allow the carrier to sail over the ditched aircraft. The aircraft themselves have specs that cause them to float for a while giving time for a trapped pilot to escape. To my knowledge these are fundamental safety requirements because landings may involve damaged aircraft. There is also a helo always n the air during take offs and landings for quick rescue.
Re: Military Multimedia Content
^^Awesome Story
While not about landing, gives some idea of what to expect when rolling off the deck of a carrier!

Markers ? I think they are sensors for NBC recce vehicles.
BTW, Pinaka is using new type of launcher. which was made public in 2012. Was it L&T or Tata, can't remember now.
Sarvatra developed by L&T has been inducted too. I wonder why the commentator mentions BEL as the manufacturer

Re: Military Multimedia Content
new type of launcher?
do you mean the launch tube assembly or the carrier vehicle?
As far as the carrier vehicle is concerned the ones in the video are still on Tatra.
Tata motors has a new 12 x 12 solution for the Prahaar which was shown in def expo last year.
BTW
the army day parade this year was one major showcase for DRDO developed systems including the BMP-2 derivatives/

Launch tube assembly.
Tata did have a lot of vehicles for defence market. Almost all the systems on display on this parade Arjun, Brahmos, Pinaka, BMP derivatives, Sarvatra and that communication gear were indigenous.
