British Moslem community is in action: Rohingya Journalism Fund

Code: Select all

http://rohingyajournalismfund.blogspot.nl/
SUNDAY, 10 MARCH 2013

The importance of this project
I'd like to give a bit more of a picture of how this fund idea came about, and why we consider it such an important project:

We have received reliable reports that a third round of violence against the Rohingya (and very likely Kaman) minority groups in Burma is being planned, and is likely to be executed in the near future (around the turn of the month.) So far international media coverage of the persecution and ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya has been relatively limited, despite the situation being extremely grave and getting steadily worse- but if we can document the latest conflagration on the ground this could change all that.

In the case of the Sri Lankan civil war, it was only when the appalling nature of the atrocities visited upon Tamil civilians were exposed by the work of Sri Lankan journalists and Channel 4 that the international community began to get really serious about seeking accountability and others became aware of the suffering of the victims.

France24.com:
Taqiya, or the terrorist ‘art of deception'
A year after the Toulouse attacks by Mohamed Merah (pictured), French counterterrorism experts are monitoring the practice of "taqiya" - or deceiving society by concealing one’s faith – and its uses in jihadist circles.

Nearly a year ago, as one of France’s longest-ever police sieges was about to end on the morning of March 22, 2012, Mohamed Merah – also known as “the Toulouse gunman” – uttered a cry that seemed enigmatic to the uninformed, but was weighted with meaning for counterterrorism experts.

“It’s not the money, it’s the deception that’s critical,” said the 23-year-old French-Algerian shortly before he jumped off his Toulouse apartment window and was gunned down by an elite French anti-terror unit.

Economist: Green glass ceilings: How Muslim clerics turn jihadist
WHY pious and peaceable Muslims turn to ultraconservative and even violent versions of the faith is a subject of great interest for scholars and policymakers. But so far little effort has gone on studying the radicalisation of the clergy.

Now Rich Nielsen of Harvard University has examined the books, fatwas (religious rulings) and biographies of 91 modern Salafi clerics, as well as of 379 of their students and teachers. He found that the main factors behind radicalism are not poverty or the ideology of their teachers (as might be assumed) but the poor quality of their academic and educational networks. {Aha!}

Such contacts determined the clerics’ ability to get a good job as imam or teacher in state institutions. In Saudi Arabia and Egypt, where most of the 91 came from, the government has long co-opted religious institutions. Those who failed to land a job were more likely to avow violence as a tool for political change.
Mr Nielsen reckons he has proved causation by controlling for other factors—eliminating the chance that those more inclined to extremism shun state jobs, for example. “It’s about a glass ceiling,” he says. “Clerics who don’t get positions must compete to appeal to an audience. Jihadist views are a way of making themselves appear credible, since there is often a high cost associated with it, such as prison time.{aka a temper tantrum}

His research may help those seeking to stem the rise of radical preachers. Rather than spending a fortune snooping on them and then jailing them, it would be cheaper to offer them a decent job. {aka jiziyah}

Muslim Brotherhood Statement Denouncing UN Women Declaration for Violating Sharia Principles
Muslim Brotherhood slams proposed UN CSW document which contradicts principles of Islam and destroys family life and entire society.

The 57th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), taking place from March 4 to 15 at UN headquarters, seeks to ratify a declaration euphemistically entitled ‘End Violence against Women’.

That title, however, is misleading and deceptive. The document includes articles that contradict established principles of Islam, undermine Islamic ethics and destroy the family, the basic building block of society, according to the Egyptian Constitution.

..

A closer look at these articles reveals what decadence awaits our world, if we sign this document:

1. Granting girls full sexual freedom, as well as the freedom to decide their own gender and the gender of their partners (ie, choose to have normal or homo- sexual relationships), while raising the age of marriage.

2. Providing contraceptives for adolescent girls and training them to use those, while legalizing abortion to get rid of unwanted pregnancies, in the name of sexual and reproductive rights.

3. Granting equal rights to adulterous wives and illegitimate sons resulting from adulterous relationships.

4. Granting equal rights to homosexuals, and providing protection and respect for prostitutes.

5. Giving wives full rights to file legal complaints against husbands accusing them of rape or sexual harassment, obliging competent authorities to deal husbands punishments similar to those prescribed for raping or sexually harassing a stranger.

6. Equal inheritance (between men and women).

7. Replacing guardianship with partnership, and full sharing of roles within the family between men and women such as: spending, child care and home chores.

8. Full equality in marriage legislation such as: allowing Muslim women to marry non-Muslim men, and abolition of polygamy, dowry, men taking charge of family spending, etc.

9. Removing the authority of divorce from husbands and placing it in the hands of judges, and sharing all property after divorce.

10. Cancelling the need for a husband’s consent in matters like: travel, work, or use of contraception.

All thanks to oil?

Then how were Bipin Chandra Pal & Lothrop Stoddard so accurately able to predict the coming storm before they got oil?

According to Pal writing in 1923:
"The same thing is likely to happen in the Islamic world also; and the fall of Turkey in Europe will hasten this combination. It will not be an organized confederacy like that of China and Japan, but a far more dangerous, because more subtle, combination of the hearts of countless hordes who hold nothing so dear, neither land nor life, as their religion. And the real strength of this Pan- Islamic outburst will come from Egypt and India [which then included present-day Pakistan and Bangladesh], where it will be safe from the crushing weight of the Pan-European confederacy. England will not allow her European confederates to interfere with her own domestic affairs; such interference would break up the confederation at once. She will have to settle this Pan-Islamic problem, so far as it may affect her own dominions, herself."

http://kalchiron.blogspot.ca/2010/11/bi ... sh-of.html
Some quotes from Stoddard:
"The brown world, like the Yellow world, is today in acute reaction against white supremacy... The great dynamic of this brown reaction is the Mohammedan Revival…

"Islam's warlike vigor has impressed men's minds ever since the far-off days when its pristine fervor bore the Fiery Crescent from France to China. But with the passing cycles this fervor waned, and a century ago Islam seemed plunged in the stupor of senile decay. .. Yet at this darkest hour a voice came crying from out the vast Arabian desert, the cradle of Islam, calling the Faithful to better things. This puritan reformer was the famous Abd-el-Wahab, and his followers, known as Wahabis, soon spread the length and breadth of the Mohammedan world, purging Islam of its sloth and rekindling the fervor of its olden days. Thus began the great Mohammedan Revival.

"That revival, like all truly great regenerative movements, had its political as well as its spiritual side. One of the first things which struck the reformers was the political weakness of the Moslem World and its increasing subjection to the Christian West… The result in Islam was a fusing of religion and patriotism into a 'sacred union' for the combined spiritual regeneration and political emancipation of the Moslem World...

"No more zealous Moslems are to be found in all the ranks of Islam than those who have sojourned longest in Europe and acquired the most intimate knowledge of its sciences and ways. Mohammedans are keenly alive to the ever-shifting uncertainties and divisions that distract the Christianity of today, and of the woeful instability of modern European institutions."

- The Rising Tide of Color by Lothrop Stoddard, 1920
To this Islamic civilization all Moslems are deeply attached. In this larger sense, Pan-Islamism is universal. Even the most liberal-minded Moslems, however much they may welcome Western ideas, and however strongly they may condemn the fanatical, reactionary aspects of the political Pan-Islamic movement, believe fervently in Islam's essential solidarity. As a leading Indian Moslem liberal, The Aga Khan, remarks: "There is a right and legitimate Pan-Islamism to which every sincere and believing Mohammedan belongs—that is, the theory of the spiritual brotherhood and unity of the children of the Prophet. The real spiritual and cultural unity of Islam must ever grow, for to the follower of the Prophet it is the foundation of the life and the soul."[57]

If such is the attitude of Moslem liberals, thoroughly conversant with Western culture and receptive to Western progress, what must be the feelings of the Moslem masses, ignorant, reactionary, and fanatical? Besides perfectly understandable fear and hatred due to Western aggression, there is, among the Moslem masses, a great deal of genuine fanaticism caused, not by European political domination, but by religious bigotry and blind hatred of Western civilization.

- The New World of Islam by Lothrop Stoddard, 1921

This has been going on right from the time the prophet founded the religion. He was opposed by other arabs of his time and those opposing were ruthlessly put down. In every century you can find arabs and converted muslims ruthlessly putting down kafirs and those who question them. This will go on well after oil runs out of arabia.

Questions for the gurus: Is everyone from the Hussein line also his follower? Which side of the Shia-Sunni divide (if any) does her lineage put Elizabeth in? Also, if she has Islamic lineage and is not a Muslim herself, does that make her an apostate? And finally, the most important question of all - does her (ancestors') apostasy or having more Shia/Sunni blood make her wajib-ul-cutlet?

The best way to convert a people is through royal patronage of the religion, very effective through royal decrees or through financial means at disposal, they can 'help the poor realize their true path of salvation'. If that doesn't work, there are other ways at their disposal anyway like intimidation. All the three are desert religions anyway, many time mutually compatible, so for them, conversion is easy. Instead of Jesus they just have to say Mohammad. Of course, they have to go an extra mile of adding (PHBU) everytime they utter his name for the fear of becoming a cutlet...but hey look at the bright side, they get 72 unwashed peaches, it is worth all the trouble.

Not just Queen Elizabeth but every royal somewhere may have some connection to Mohammed. Similarly one can say, all Royals of the world, including Queen Elizabeth is descended from Rama. This is of course all a nonsense quest, but what is interesting is that the grounds are being laid for the eventual conversion of the Royal Family to Islam.

In fact the Windsors would be the first monarchy in Europe to convert to Islam eventually with the British Elite doing so very quickly after that. How else to perpetuate their habit of loot!

Queen 'should remain Defender of the Faith' - BBC poll

-----------------------------------------------

But while the rocking-horse was speaking two boys stole away, unnoticed by their parents, from a house on the edge of the waste place, and were coming across it looking for adventures. One of them carried a broom, and when he saw the rocking-horse he said nothing, but broke off the handle from the broom and thrust it between his braces and his shirt on the left side. Then he mounted the rocking-horse, and drawing forth the broomstick, which was sharp and spiky at the end, said, "Saladin is in this desert with all his paynims, and I am Coeur de Lion." After a while the other boy said: "Now let me kill Saladin too." But Blagdaross in his wooden heart, that exulted with thoughts of battle, said: "I am Blagdaross yet!"

Given the story that was told to me (and other tourists) on a boat by a student punter on the River Cam flowing past King's college in Cambridge about Prince Charles's stint there, I wonder how it would affect his relationship with Islam?

Charles had a bodyguard at the college and developed a "relationship" with him. The relationship continued through the Diana days, but at last when the coast was clear the bodyguard had a sex change operation and became Camilla Parker Bowles.

Another Bengali chick (no not Sarmila Bose) had done detective work to unearth this in recent times, which was discussed excitedly in every Moslem forum with Paki presence.

BBC: Queen Victoria and Abdul: Diaries reveal secrets
Abdul Karim was one of Queen Victoria's closest confidants despite efforts by royal circles to suppress their relationship before and after her death

Previously undiscovered diaries have been found by an author based in the UK which show the intense relationship between Queen Victoria and the Indian man employed to be her teacher [in Urdu and "Indian Affairs"].

The diaries have been used by London-based author Shrabani Basu to update her book Victoria and Abdul - which tells the story of the queen's close relationship with a tall and handsome  Indian Muslim called Abdul Karim.

...

"In letters to him over the years between his arrival in the UK and her death in 1901, the queen signed letters to him as 'your loving mother' and 'your closest friend'," author Shrabani Basu told the BBC.

"On some occasions, she even signed off her letters with a flurry of kisses - a highly unusual thing to do at that time.

"It was unquestionably a passionate relationship - a relationship which I think operated on many different layers in addition to the mother-and-son ties between a young Indian man and a woman who at the time was over 60 years old."

Ms Basu hints that it is unlikely that the pair were ever lovers - although they did set tongues wagging by spending a quiet night alone in the same highland cottage where earlier she and John Brown used to stay.

"When Prince Albert died, Victoria famously said that he was her husband, close friend, father and mother," Ms Basu said. "I think it's likely that Abdul Karim fulfilled a similar role."

...

"At a time when the British empire was at its height, a young Muslim occupied a central position of influence over its sovereign," Ms Basu said.

"It was a relationship that sent shockwaves through the royal court and was arguably a relationship far more scandalous than her much reported friendship with Mr Brown."

Such was the level of ill-feeling he generated that barely a few hours after the queen's funeral, her son Edward VII unceremoniously sacked Abdul Karim.

Egypt vigilantes hang thieves in public
Egyptian vigilantes beat two men accused of stealing a rickshaw, then stripped them half-naked and hung them from a tree in a bus station in a small Nile Delta town on Sunday, according to security officials who said both men died.

The killings came a week after the attorney general's office encouraged civilians to arrest lawbreakers and hand them over to police.

The state-run newspaper Ahram reported on its website that the two were dragged in the street after being caught “red-handed” trying to steal a rickshaw. It said they were beaten but alive before they were hung.

According to one hadith, the Prophet once allowed a travelling party of Ethiopian Christians to pray and rest in his mosque - at that time the only mosque in the world. But I'm not sure if that example was over-ridden by a later hadith. In today's world its unlikely to happen, I dunno. How did Guru Nanak gain entrance to mosques during his travels in the ME? Maybe he was considered a wandering seeker.

This is from what I read years ago:
* islam borrowed from christianity and one can argue that islam comes from christian tradition
* christianity comes from judaism. Jeseus Christ was from a jewish family and jews of the day never acceptem him to be a prophet. Jews till today do not accept christ and some consider him as reformist jew of his time.
* Judaism comes from Egyptian religion of that time
* you can also tie in assyrian, and even zoarastrian religions to this mix

Abrahmic lnk between Islam and Christanity is all fine and dandy, but it hardly ever filters down to good relation between the two. They have been trying to wipe each other out in every single place they crossed paths. To Islamists, westerners are still kafirs, even if they are Christians and non-Abrhamnics are even worse.

Anyhow, my point was it's only the comparatively liberal Christians who are trying to reach out through such gesture. One way street onlee. Maybe they are afraid of the militant muslims and just trying to appease them.

jamwal ji,

what I want to say is that Christians would have a hard time finding theological differences which they can convert to legal reasons to proceed against Islam.

Perhaps. But religions like these don't need to find a reason to declare someone wajib-ul-cutlet.
If Christians can be mollified by recognition to Jesus as God's prophet by some Islamists, then Indians too don't have anything against Jesus or Mohammed either. They are considered holy men here too. But that never stopped these numbskulls from doing whatever they feel like.

This situation is a lot like in Pakistan. First they fought against people who had too many differences, real or made up. Then the quest for purity led to massacres of Ahmedis, Bengalis, Balochs and now Shias. Presently, mainstream Christanity is more or less dominated by moderates, unlike Islam. But the situations may change without anyone being the wiser. Influence of groups like WBC may increase, Catholics may grow more conservative under a new leadership. You wouldn't need to declare theological differences for a fight then.
