Is it worth to buy Thinkpad T530 just for bigger dimensions considering 15.6" screen is not common as 14" is?
Also hearing that DVD Writer are to slowly getting obsolete with newer models coming in market without DVD W/R, will that trend catch up with thinkpad/vostro/probook/pavilion type business series laptops too?
I am not familiar with the T530. 15.6'' is a bit big in terms of portability and weight, but it is a matter of choice for everyone based on their needs.
I did not get the DVD writer, got an additional 500GB HDD instead. Thinkpad definitely has that option with customization, am not sure about the others.
DVD writers going out of fashion means that eventually the optical media will fade into oblivion. That worries me as me secondary backup right now is about 20-30 8GB DVDs. My main backup is a 2 TB WD my book and core backup is on a WD my passport. THe "backup" for the WD backup are 8GB DVDs. Now I am confused as to what will be the alternative to my DVDs in the future.
Cloud is an option but there is only so much I can upload with a 30GB data limit. I can do it incrementally over time but the recent decomissioning decision of google cloud reader was a shocker in that what I felt will be a forever "tool" suddenly had its plug pulled (I dont buy the google + route). So even if cloud will be an option what will be the "forever" option (if there is one), how do the maulanas in BR plan their long term data persistence?
^^^That would occur due to deformation of pixels when viewed through the curved top glass. However I haven't seen that effect - perhaps the display is calibrated to output in a way which counters that?
To add to what Yogi says, what about family photos and videos? I have several Gigs of them on my HD and we have stopped printing pictures, so I guess my HDD is the only way. I have a personal cloud that serves as a backup.
BhairavP wrote:Kjoishy saar, if you need to play non-Fruitco approved videos on your iPad Videos app, run them through Handbrake using the iPad preset. Encoding takes some time, even on my i7-2600k @ 4.4GHz, but the resulting files will play 400% on the iPad Videos App.
I just got an iPad, so the plan is to download movies, TV shows etc, convert to mp4 format using Freemake, and then upload to iPad so I can watch in the train to work and back. I can get them in the "Video" app but it is hard to find the video I want since the name is cut off after a certain length. I'll check Handbrake.
Mickey needs to make Office365 free for initial 12 months. I doubt anybody would go back to Google Docs after using it - the UX now exactly feels like the equivalent native app so much so that today I got confused as to which one was native vs non-native when running the browser in full-screen mode.

Forget about google glass.. check out google nose..
^^^Depends on what you are looking for? If love new techy stuff and have $1500.- you won't miss, go ahead. If you are looking for some mainstream CE device with polished UX, you will be disappointed. It is a technology demonstrator at this point, not a full blown product offering.
that would akin red mullah says openly that he eats sandwich daily in lm dhaaga. btw, rob bin has sudden interest in mms growing b@lls.. trying some new type of gizmo eh!~..
did you buy it or get it as a gifted proto? most protos are not exactly prime time ready - lately my life has been a mass of such problems with proto boards, shifty third party vendors , "we dont know if it will work, but you can try it out" kind of statements....
I might take it apart to poke at the electricals if I can do it without breaking the display/touchscreen or its flex - nowadays these tablets are hard to disassemble without proper suction cup jig.
iPad Mini should basically eclipse iPad and other tablet sales. Its perfect for kids and has a larger display than the 7 inch tablets without feeling physically larger. The iPad mini kept both nieces occupied during ~10 hour road trip beset with delays from San Diego to Bay Area.
Any final insider-knowledge release date for the Thinkpad Helix? Need a new laptop stat, and I really like it's form factor. Enough to tempt me over the Series 9 and Asus UX31
looking for a long lasting over the ear (somehow into the ear is uncomfortable for me) noise-cancelling stereo headphones with mic. should work with all gizmos, suitable for work and off work.

I wonder about the QC of the N7. I went through a couple and finally took them back to the store and got a refund. At least you didn't lose too much money on it.
As you said, many of these tablets and phones are held together with double-sided sticky tape and glue (spit). I can't fathom the idea of spending nearly a $1000 on one when I know in 12-18 months it will be kaput.
The Chinese actions are pretty easy to interpret - they are trying to develop a greater consumption driven economy and want to appeal to latent nationalism so people buy more domestic companies' goods and less of those from MNCs. Even they have a phoren fetish - perhaps more so than we do.
But that is the problem - they want to get out of the mass manufacturing system as they're priced out by their labor costs . They're trying to ensure a consumerist population in love with import maal doesn't turn them into something like the US that runs a substantial current account deficit .
OK found the cause of the Nexus 7 problem. The micro USB connector is off the PCB - poor soldering. Re-soldered it in and it works now. Thankfully nothing broke during disassembly/assembly.
Bawarchi apologizing to Chinese has a pretty strong symbollic value.
It is quite common perception of chinese maal as being cheap sometimes legit but sometimes also an illegit allegation. Apple's case actually turns the tables on the best perceived yamiriki company and where the CEO goes on record apologizing.
If Bawarchi had turned to Kerrorist's office for help, I am sure something equivalent would be been cooked up but for US domestic consumption, they would have spun it as Apple single handedly made communist country apologize to Apple, US and more specifically to Kerrorist
What do maulanas here think about 7 inch Windows tablets?
IMO, if priced right (sub $300? and at least one sub $200) and offerings with build quality like GB's Lumia, M$'s Surface or ech pee's envy x2, Win 8 will gain a lot of traction.
Given the uphill battle, there needs to be few Win 8 devices that can be bought at lower price points. For the likes of Dhell and Ech Pee ...these 7inch (as against 10 inch with keyboard) don't even cannibalize their mainstream offerings.
Bigger Q.: What will happen to Desktop ? Selling point for RT is Office on Desktop, for Windows 8 is compatibility for all desktop apps. On a 7 inch device... Windows wont have that selling point. That is why they need Office Blue/Gemini(Full Office suite for Metro, like Onenote and Lync)
