One congi "Avatar" recommending the death of the BJP while pretending to be its well wisher.
BJP's JP moment
Sudheendra Kulkarni

To its credit, the BJP has indeed learnt some of these lessons. Formation of the Vajpayee-led NDA government was a creative repeat of the JP experiment in a new format. However, it also incontrovertibly proved that the BJP cannot build, much less sustain, a broadbased alliance by following its Hindutva ideology. Yet, ever since its debacle in 2004, the party has allowed itself to be misled by forces in the Sangh Parivar to think that expansion of its Hindu vote bank will propel its future growth.

It's high time the BJP realised it cannot have a jhanda (flag or identity) for its own growth that contradicts the agenda necessary for alliance expansion. It has to understand and accept India in all its diversity, which will require it to re-interpret its nationalist ideology and redefine its relationship with the RSS (an accidental necessity from the past; also one of the factors behind the Janata Party's disintegration). It has to honestly follow the same strategy—based on social inclusion, good governance and integral national development—for both self-development and alliance-development. Specifically, it must make sincere and sustained efforts to end its alienation from the Muslim community. If it does all this, India might well see—especially when the Congress is no longer as dominant now as it was then—re-birth of the Janata Party as JP had envisioned it, with the BJP as its leader.

Jokers in charge: Tavleen Singh
Chinese soldiers are currently on a camping trip in Ladakh. The insouciance with which they crossed the border and set up their tents on Indian soil revives horrible memories of a war in which we suffered a humiliating defeat. It should have worried our government but it did not. Ministers of the Government of India handled this insidious new form of troop movement with the sanguinity they exhibited when an Indian soldier was beheaded on another troubled border. Is this arrogance, cowardice or stupidity? I leave it for those who understand our namby-pamby foreign policy better than I do to answer that question, but would like to discuss this week the domestic consequences of this behaviour.
The most important of these is that the Sonia-Manmohan government is increasingly being perceived as too weak to protect India's interests. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh rarely deign to explain their policies to the Indian public and always vanish in times of crisis. They leave it to their ministers to speak for them and when these gentlemen speak, they confirm the growing impression that the destiny of India is in the hands of jokers.

Salman Khurshid is an old friend so it saddens me to write that the 'acne' analogy for the Chinese camping expedition was inappropriate and facetious. The Defence Minister has a stock answer whenever he is asked about a border incident, and he is so inarticulate when he gives it that it takes a while to work out that he is only saying that the matter is being investigated. Not once has he said anything that sounds even vaguely reassuring.

The Home Minister says the wrong thing so often that it is surprising that he is still allowed to speak. The latest example came in Parliament recently when he tried to dismiss the brutal rape of a five-year-old girl in Delhi by saying "rapes happen everywhere". Last year, when he was in charge of the Power Ministry and the entire northern grid had collapsed, he had said proudly that we should be grateful for how quickly it was repaired.

If the Sonia-Manmohan government's legacy was just bad ministers, we might still be able to sleep peacefully at night, but there is more. In long years of covering politics and governance in Delhi, I can think of no other time, except during the Emergency, when vital institutions have been more seriously damaged. Last week, the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) admitted to the Supreme Court that they had consultations with the Law Minister while making their report on the coal scandal. This may seem like a major transgression, but it is actually just a symptom of a much deeper malaise.

On account of the peculiar situation of India having for the first time ever (and hopefully the last) two prime ministers and two cabinets, there is total confusion about who is making policy and who is accountable for what. Of course, we all know that Sonia Gandhi is more powerful than the Prime Minister and that her NAC (National Advisory Council) has overridden the Cabinet on many policy matters, but we do not know who is accountable when things go wrong. In the absence of clarity, governance has become a serious casualty. So let us hope and pray that those Chinese soldiers in Ladakh are just having a little summer holiday.

Last week, I chanced upon an interview that Baba Ramdev gave to a couple of Hindi news channels. I heard him say that he would like Narendra Modi to become prime minister because wherever he travelled, he met people who told him that they longed to see a strong leader in charge of India. I am no fan of Baba Ramdev but can confirm from my own travels in our fair and wondrous land that wherever I go, I meet people who express a similar sentiment.

In urban India, there are signs of a Modi wave and the irony is that for this he has Sonia Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh to thank and not his colleagues in the Bharatiya Janata Party. Ever since Modi started making speeches in Delhi, there is nearly as much panic in the higher echelons of the BJP as there is in the Congress party headquarters. This is because the incestuous, murky nature of politics in Delhi has made senior BJP leaders as complicit in what has gone wrong.

If this were not true, would they be stalling Parliament when Chinese soldiers have set up a camp in Ladakh? Surely at a time when there is a serious threat to national security, there can be nothing more important than allowing Parliament to function? Questions about the coal scam can be asked inside the House, can they not? Is it any wonder that ordinary Indians long these days for a real leader?

Coomi Kapoor's Column
High command rattled

Rahul Gandhi's comments at a dinner last week for NSUI alumni in Delhi had the party high command in a tizzy. Rahul, who moved from table to table interacting with the guests, deplored the fact that decisions in the Congress are made by just half a dozen people. Decisions should be arrived at by first consulting thousands, if not lakhs. Gandhi's remarks seemed to suggest that bodies like the Congress Election Committee and the CWC should be rendered far more representative than they are at present. However, a high command member felt that if Rahul's suggestion was implemented, it would lead to chaos.

Tripped up in Amritsar

Arun Jaitley's wife Sangeeta is a part of a women's group which likes to travel to different parts of the country. After Goa and Ajmer Sharif, the group decided to visit Amritsar. What they did not bargain for was that a section of the media would jump to the conclusion that they were part of an advance recce party to check out Amritsar as a potential constituency for Jaitley. Jaitley's wife's trip may have been coincidental but there are straws in the wind that the BJP may in fact ask the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha to contest from the Amritsar seat. Sitting MP Navjot Singh Sidhu has alienated the BJP's ally, the Akali Dal. Powerful Akali minister Bikram Majithia has a long-standing feud with him. They want Jaitley to contest from Amritsar instead. Meanwhile, the BJP, which lost all the Delhi parliamentary seats in the last general election, wants to ensure that a Sikh, a Jat and a Bihari are each fielded from the constituencies in the national capital this time. Sidhu is considered the likely Sikh choice for a Delhi seat.

Lying low

though Amar Singh continues to be a Rajya Sabha MP, he does not normally attend Parliament. Singh's seat is controversial. When he left the Samajwadi Party in 2010, he offered to give up his seat, but Mulayam Singh Yadav asked him to continue, explaining that if Singh resigned, the seat would go to a BSP candidate. But six months later, Mulayam changed his tune and asked Singh to vacate his allotted seat in the House and resign his membership. Singh's hackles were up and he petitioned the Supreme Court challenging the SP's belated decision. The Supreme Court ruled that a larger judicial bench would have to be set up to decide the issue. In the meantime, Amar Singh can continue as an MP till 2014.

Jaya waits to have say

Amar Singh has to decide which party is best suited for his protégé, actress Jaya Prada, who has quit the Samajwadi Party. The Congress would presumably be happy to field Jaya from her Rampur constituency, but Jaganmohan Reddy, Singh's neighbour on Lodhi Road, is keen she joins the YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh. Jaya remains a big draw as an actress in the South. She intends to complain to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha that an Uttar Pradesh traffic police officer and 40 policemen recently barged into her residence in Rampur at the instance of UP Minister Azam Khan and threatened and abused her for using a red beacon on her car. However, since the Lok Sabha gets adjourned daily, she has not been able to raise the issue.

Opting for power

All parties claim piously that their concern is for the deprived and disadvantaged sections of society. But strangely enough, there is no demand from most of the smaller parties for representation on the parliamentary committees for SCs and STs and OBCs. This is because the smaller parties, including the CPM, the Samajwadi Party, the DMK, the AIADMK and the Akali Dal, would prefer to have a member in such prestigious parliamentary committees as the COPU (Committee on Public Undertakings) and PAC (Public Accounts Committee).

Vacant positions

While the number of parliamentary committees keeps increasing, the number of parliamentary reporters to cover the House and meetings of various committees has declined dramatically. Of a total of 45 slots for English language parliamentary reporters, there are 19 vacancies. The position for Hindi reporting is only slightly better. The two director-level posts in the English reporting division have not been filled, although 75 per cent of the work in Parliament is in English. In recent times, 10 reporters quit the department and left for other jobs.

^^ the belief is that.. Kar voters (in general) are angry with BJP for the corruption (theres not much that can change that, though we have to see NMs kar campaigning.. but people are extremely shortsighted)- even though yeddi has been kicked out, they are linking the stink to BJP and not yeddi.. so many insiders believe if they lose this election and congis win.. then by next year, there will definitely be a few scams to expose in Kar and it will be used to win LS seats. Basically the kar voters need to be reminded of the $hit smell that will emanate when congi comes to power

LKA, Sushma, Ananth Kumar. Some say Jaitley is part of D4 and Some do not. Jaitley is definitely close to Sushma. At the same time he owes his seat to Modi as well.

So it is exploiting the local anger to reflect it nationally and soft anti-incumbency. Did not realize that the Indian voter is so dumb that does not identify between state and national elections.

Per several news reports Congress is struggling with a lot of infighting, hollow manifesto and a lacklustre election campaign in Karnataka. I hope, BJP makes use of this opportunity to get a decent number of seats if not get elected again.

Meanwhile the world remains business as usual...

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city ... 773104.cms

They will caste their vote: Karnataka still remains extremely caste-conscious

The survey found Dharwad, Gadag, Chitradurga and Haveri districts much more caste-conscious than the coastal or Hyderabad-Karnatak regions. Fully, 97% of the survey's respondents from Dharwad pronounce caste as the most important factor when it comes to choosing a candidate. Nearly 88% of respondents from Gadag, 76% from Chitradurga and 70% from Haveri are caste-conscious. On the other side of the spectrum, Udupi, Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada districts show fewer than 1% of respondents believing caste is important.

Congress to roll back Cow Slaughter Bill, if voted to power

Gulbarga. Jan 11, 2013. The former deputy chief minister and congress leader Mr. Siddaramiah declared that if the Congress party comes to power in the next assembly election, it would roll back the controversial Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation (Amendment) Bill 2012 at the very first instance.

See how this Act became" Contraversial". Today 5 MPs of INC from Telangana have started a 48 hours agitation for Telangana and Sushma Swaraj went and met them. Time and again she is trying to middle into AP matters and I wonder there is some "Iron" background for all this thing. BJP D4 never tried seriously to grow in any part of AP and even now not trying to see that INC does not get 32 out of 42 MP seats from AP. The drama actor MPs are lost there face long back and may not even win. Please like Sukhendra Reddy and M Jagannadha sold themselves to INC from TDP last time when YSR payed the drama and votes against NDA no confidence motion. Now this lady want to befrind such people again??? Another person who is going to come in the BJP is Nagam Janardhan a long time TDP person who left it during Telangana agitation and now an idependent MLA. He is likely to contest on a BJP ticket from Magaboob nagar.

Instead of allowing actual and long term workers of BJP contest BJP is taking people from other parties. They tried this drama in 2004 and lost in AP. They never serious tired to grow in AP and this time also it may at best a short term burst of one or two seats.

There is no need for him to say all these things in an election which his party is going to lose and out of power in a important South state. Is is a political leader or what??? It is people like him and Sushma "Iron" Lady lost Karnataka to BJP. It would be best for BJP to get rid of all these people as early as possible.

Unfortunately, most Hindutva types do not see any inconsistency between Hindutva and Jaativaad. We may feel sad about it, but that is the current situation. In MH, the Bhagwa waving NCP workers on Shiva Jayanti do not see any conflict between 96-Kuli Maratha pride and Hindavi Swarajya which Shivaji Maharaj was espousing.

Cong-BJP propaganda war to intensify: Asian Age
Propaganda war between the Congress and the BJP would intensify further after the Sonia Gandhi-led party constituted a six member team to puncture the propaganda of the main Opposition ahead of the series of the state Assembly polls during 2013 and the Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

The team headed by the Congress general secretary and the AICC media department chief Janardan Dwivedi, will be meeting on May 2.

“This will be the first meeting of the team,” said the Congress spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit here on Monday.
The team consists of the political secretary to the Congress president Ahmed Patel, minister of state in the PMO V. Narayanasamy, minister of state(independent charge) for the information and broadcasting Manish Tewari and Lok Sabha members Deepender Singh Hooda and Sandeep Dikshit.

Responding to questions Mr Dikshit said the Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh has been added to the team.
While Mr Hooda would head a social media team, Mr Dikshit to lead the research team in the six member main team to function from the Congress’ “war room” at Gurudwara Rakab Gandj Road in New Delhi.

The Congress high command constituted this team after realising that the BJP is ahead in the propaganda.

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, the BJP’s undeclared PM candidate, is said to have created his own network of propaganda. It is well equipped, well informed and fast in action. The network is effective in social media, electronic media and the print media, concede Congress insiders. Mr Modi’s rivals in the BJP and the NDA cannot compete him in the propaganda war for the simple reason that powerful corporator sector, a section of the media are lobbying for his candidature to become the PM candidate.

A BJP sympathiser pointed out that Mr Modi is hardly using the BJP platform after winning the Gujarat Assembly polls for the third time last year. The PM aspirants in the BJP and leaders of the Sangh Parivar are finding difficult to check him, he said. The Congress’s campaign had failed to counter its opponents in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab,Tamil Nadu Assembly polls barring Himachal Pradesh where Mr Virbhadra Singh had on his own demolhised the BJP’s design.

Whatever INC do, there is now a chance to bring Karnataka to a hung assembly situation. Congress can at best be restricted to 85-90 range. I hope Modi uses the Coal scam stuff in his next rally at Mangalore and Belgaum. After SC's observations (not as harsh as they should be) and also Uttarakhand's massive loss in the local bodies elections, BJP surely has a chance in Karnataka to not get drubbed to 40 seat range.

It is now absolutely clear, BJP is losing only because of Yeddi. This entire KA failure is only due to one man and that is LKA

It is not true. There will always be some crowd in cities that says like that. In the end it is proven umpteen number of times in India that corruption is not an electoral issue. Recent example is Himachal. Worst example is AP where Jagan won 90% of bye-elections.

Added later:
Why go for examples elsewhere. See after Reddy bro's are arrested, their party man won the Assembly seat there as independent.

On ground there is enough anger against Yeddi btw. A lot of people I know say they wont vote BJP because of Yeddi..

So let us wait and watch.

Why sir, why wait and watch? Couldn't advani keep his hands off karnataka. He had to destroy it right. Corrupt yeddy is 1000 times better than congress.

Read a news article today saying Varun Gandhi may run for election from Sultanpur. Varun should be used by BJP to take the shine away from ruling half of Nehru dynasty.

Meanwhile, Sushma Swaraj is in a very attacking mode today. She is mincing no words and even attacked Sonia Gandhi directly for the first time in years.

Kkta was destroyed by Yeddi because of his greed and stupidity. If anything Yeddi should have been kicked out earlier, 2 more years of Shettiar, and the picture would be different.

Blaming anyone else for it is pointless. The reality is Yeddi was a bomb, but a powerful bomb. It is simply being cathartic. This is like " if only IAF ordereded 100000000000000 LCAs they could get made in a day" -- when in reality HAL fails to perform.

Karnataka polls: Corruption is a big swing factor
Corruption is the most important issue for voters cutting across key demographic divides. Government employees, the sector most associated with the issue, also feel likewise with some notable exceptions . For instance, people from former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa's constituency Shikaripura in Shimoga district do not think corruption is a significant problem.

LKA is making sure BJP is defeated in Karnataka. Maybe that is his CBM to Sonia Gandhi.

You get moksha after death. Does he mean BJP is dead? If so he killed it!

surprising that many people think loksatta party is free of corruption, criminals.
In KA elections, it has 9% of candidates with criminal record. Of course lowest of the lot.
Highest is among congis and BJP with JDu not far behind- all hovering around 20% on either side.

Vaardhakyam!!! ABV is the reason for loss of UP. LKA is the reason for loss of KA. Everything can be cooked. If things are worked out by BJP and ensure a hung assembly then they can recover back in LS. Yeddi will come back in few months and that is imminent.
