The sensational news of Rajasthan Royals’ three Indian players being arrested on charges of spot-fixing has received a bittersweet response in Pakistan. At the cost of sounding exaggerated, the euphoria surrounding incident has reached a feverish pitch.

The reason behind projecting India negatively and as the hub of match-fixing was obvious. After the first edition in 2008, no Pakistani player has been allowed to play in the lucrative Twenty20 league, depriving them of a big pay check year after year. That made the IPL a villain in the eyes of Pakistan’s media.

The only channel to telecast IPL matches — GEO Super — has received several threats to withdraw from its broadcast commitments. The channel has made fortune out of broadcasting IPL games, earning nearly four times the investment every season.

The IPL bust of Sreesanth & Co only provides lots of equal equal ammunition to RAPE in both India & TSP. Nationalist or sane voices pointing out that it was Indian police itself that busted it and this is what any responsible country ought to be doing will fall on deaf ears. For them, its India TSP equal equal.

But to me, what is most relevant to this thread about IPL bust is the sheer obsession of this on DDM. One headline that was deafeningly repeated was "a billion Indians betrayed". How is it I wonder that DDM summons so much machismo, spares no punches, over a piddly kirket misdemeanor (that guilty must be punished notwithstanding), while something as colossal as 26/11 surrender by MMS & Co not only receives scant outrage, but sucking up to the very perpetrators of 26/11 is not "a billion Indians betrayed"?

Finally, I hope Delhi police instead of gloating over busting of soft, gullible targets like Sreesanth & Co should should instead nab TSP terrorists running around the capital city, along with their Indian cohorts even if they have to go against the diktats of "secularists", and show no mercy in busting women rapists.

Musharraf also owns residences abroad and can go there.”However, he said, “Leaving the country for good in any case will end the political career of Musharraf as well as APML the party he founded from abroad, but came back to strengthen its roots in the country.” “Musharraf has faced a tough time at home after his arrival and he should thank his international friends,” Kasuri said, adding he did not need to leave the country.” Meanwhile, insiders in the APML, revealing the details of Musharraf’s flight from Pakistan, maintained that international guarantors had intensified their efforts to rescue the former president and he was likely to land in Dubai after leaving the country. They claimed that modalities for an honourable exit of Musharraf were being discussed by the officials concerned of state and international guarantors of the former president. They added Musharraf was most likely to fly from Pakistan a little earlier before the new rulers took charge from the caretakers. However, they refused to divulge the details of the modalities being discussed or finalised so far by the international guarantors of Musharraf and the state’s quarters concerned. PML-Zia chief Ijaz-ul-Haq, who is believed to be close to the real establishment in the country, has also claimed in a press conference that Pervez Musharraf will leave the country before the elected government takes charge from the caretakers. When this correspondent asked him about some details supporting his claim, Ijaz said Musharraf would leave and that had been decided. He added those who wanted to stop Musharraf from leaving the country might have a little time at hand to take action.

LONDON: British Prime Minister David Cameron has taken notice of the protest demonstration staged by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at 10 Downing Street against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain’s telephonic addresses in Pakistan.According to source, Mr Cameron came out of his residence and witnessed for five minutes the demonstration being held outside.The British PM inquired from his staff about the demands being made by the PTI demonstrators.Responding to the call of PTI hundreds of demonstrators staged a protest against Muttahida Qaumi Movment (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain’s telephonic speeches in Pakistan.As many as 1500 PTI and JI supporters and other demonstrators gathered at 10 Downing Street in London to lodge protest against MQM chief Altaf Hussain. The PTI protesters claimed that Altaf Hussain had threatened its anti vote rigging demonstrators in Karachi with dire consequences during a telephonic speech.
The participants of the demonstration demanded of the British government to put a curb on any interference by any kind of group or organization from Britain into the politics of Pakistan and provocation of the latter’s people.Meanwhile, the London Police earlier rejected arresting activists of a Pakistan-based political party here.According to sources, the London police came up with this clarification in the wake of a news item claiming the arrests that went viral on the social media.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh senior vice president, Zahra Shahid Hussain, was gunned down in Karachi on Saturday night. Soon after her killing, the PTI Chairman Imran Khan held MQM Chief Altaf Hussain “directly responsible” for the murder, saying that the MQM chief had openly threatened the PTI leaders and workers.“I hold Altaf Hussain directly responsible for the murder as he had openly threatened PTI workers and leaders through public broadcasts,” Imran Khan said.

China has come forward and offered to arbitrate between Pakistan and Indian on the long-standing issue of Kashmir provided it is acceptable to India. This was stated by Chinese Ambassador Li Jain in response to a question by a journalist whether Beijing could play any role in resolving the issue during the visit of its Prime Minister Li Keqiang to the subcontinent. There is little chance of Ambassador Li's kind offer to be taken up by New Delhi, that is known to be averse to any such move because it regards the illegal occupied state as its integral part. Furthermore, China has a running territorial dispute with India, besides the fact that it is considered one of the closest friends of Pakistan; even if India were amenable to arbitration, it would not trust China with the task. Pakistan is thankful to China for offering its services to a cause that is very dear to it, is the principal bone of contention between the two subcontinental powers and its solution alone could herald an era of durable peace in the region, with all its spillover fruitful effects on its badly-needed development. However, if Beijing were to support, at the UN and other international forums, the people of Kashmir in their birthright to decide their own future through a free and fair plebiscite held under the auspices of the UN, that would be even more welcome and would stand great chance of success in solving the matter. That is what India, that had itself taken the dispute to the UN Security Council, committed there and to the Kashmiris also. China should press it to honour its solemn pledge.TRENDING DISCUSSIONS
It is noteworthy that veteran Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani has, in a letter to Mian Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister in the making, emphatically stated that no solution would be acceptable to the Kashmiris unless it was in line with the UNSC resolutions. He was saying so seeing Mian Sahib’s eagerness to normalise relations with India, as fast as possible.
At the same time, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, head of his faction of APHC has said that Kashmir should have become part of Pakistan at the time of partition because of its natural links with it i.e., its overwhelming (over 80 percent) majority of Muslims having family ties with Pakistanis and flow of it rivers into Pakistan. Unfortunately, its people became victim to a heinous conspiracy under which India was awarded a large part of Gurdaspur district to provide access to Kashmir by land, in complete violation of Partition Plan since it not only had a Muslim majority but also was contiguous to Pakistan. It is time the Kashmiris were not made to suffer because of that historical error and allowed to decide their own future.

After scaling the peak, the trio hoisted Indian and Pakistani flags side by side atop Mt. Everest, as a message of peace, friendship and collaborative action.

Pakistan Shelling on Kunar Province Resumes.

Two people including two children were injured and four houses were damaged in cross-border Pakistani shelling in the districts of eastern Kunar province Sunday afternoon, local officials said.

Kunar provincial governor Fazlullah Wahidi told TOLOnews in a phone call that more than 170 rockets were launched by Pakistani military on Shigal and Dangam districts of Kunar province in the past 24 hours.

The provincial governor said that these rockets were shelled over eastern parts of Afghanistan by Pakistani military and that Afghan forces do not have heavy weapons to respond to Pakistani military, he added.

"In past 24 hours 170 rockets lunched as a result four people including two children were wounded and four other houses were damaged. The rockets were coming from far away and we are not able to respond," Wahidi said.

Meanwhile, a number of parliamentarians representing Kunar province said that if the government does not find a fundamental solution to the issue, people will rise against Pakistan.

These parliament members said that by shelling on eastern parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan is trying to hand over these areas to Taliban.

"The rockets that are coming from Pakistan, are killing our people. So far in these areas more than 53 people have been wounded and more than 16 others killed, and lots of houses and mosques have been damaged," MP Ghulam Sakhi Mashwani told TOLOnews.

It comes after cross border shelling by Pakistani military on eastern Kunar province continued over the past two years as a result of which dozens of civilians have been killed or wounded and also lots of families were forced to leave their houses. The Afghan government has even complained to the United Nations Security Council, but it seems that so far these complaints have not changed anything.nged anything.

Benazir murder case: Pervez Musharraf granted bail

RAWALPINDI: Former dictator and arrested suspect Pervez Musharraf was granted bail in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, reported Express News on Monday.

The court ordered Musharraf to submit two surety bonds of Rs 1 million each even though the FIA prosecutor suggested that Musharraf should be made to pay Rs 1 billion for the bail.

Musharraf’s lawyers argued that this was a political case and the responsibility of Benazir’s security lay with the officers on duty, not Musharraf.

Another arrested suspect in the case Abdur Rasheed Turabi was denied bail by the court.
Pervez Musarraf is now at the centre of two cases, the illegal disposition of judges’ case and the Akbar Bugti case.

Musharraf’s lawyers plan to apply for bail in the judges’ detention case on May 22.
Safe exit for Musharraf?

PML-N sources said there was growing sense within the party’s ranks that Musharraf’s presence in the country and his possible trial could distract the new government from pressing issues. Therefore, if the former president is allowed to leave the country under the pretext of his mother’s ill health or any other reason, the party should not object to it. So said Kiyani!

While it is clear what the Sharifs intend to do, one party leader said: “If Musharraf leaves the country before the government takes charge, it will be a win-win situation.”

Reportedly, a message has been circulated within the army that Musharraf will be allowed to leave the country soon. The ‘message’ was conveyed in a bid to pacify growing unease within the army over the trial of its former chief.

its obvious to me that they don't want NS as PM of pakistan and will undermine him at any given opportunity - probably by wrecking pakistan's economy until there's a popular uprising.

NS knows the US had a hand in his overthrow by musharaff having quickly recognized the military regime and downplayed his deposement & exile.

ironically NS wants to build a stronger relationship with India if for no other reason than to counteract pakistan's near total dependance on US. China has proven to be a suprisingly useless ally.

Generator blast in Peshawar injures eight

PESHAWAR: An explosion in Falak Ser plaza situated on Peshawar’s Saddar road injured eight people on Monday.

ASP Cantonment Bilal Faisal told Dawn.com that a generator placed on the third floor of the under-construction building exploded, causing the casualties.

Emergency and security forces reached the site of incident.

Nearby shops and electronic goods in the market were also damaged as a result of the explosion.

The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital.

Lady Reading Hospital officials told Dawn.com that eight people wounded in the blast were brought into the facility for treatment.

The undue haste in MMS inviting Gunja to visit India tells it all. It seems our Indian Leadership are a Bunch of “Captain Giveaways” and the haste in trying to have transit to Afghanistan and the CARs shows that our Leadership under the guise of “Trade” is willing to hand over the keys of Red Fort to the Terroristanis.

If you look at the Total Annual Trade of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan you will find that the major part is destined to Europe and China and there is hardly anything left to trade via Pakistan barring Oil and Natural Gas.

The Oil and Natural Gas will eventually go to China and Europe – the later being under Russian control and I do not see of much of the Oil and natural Gas being exported via the oft “trumpeted” Port of Gwadar.

How long Gunja will last is in the hands of Kiyani and Co. and all we can do is to wait and see which way the camel turns.

Ambani intervened with Clinton in 2000 to save Sharif's life, claims Gadkari

Former BJP president makes the startling claim at a function to release Marathi translation of MJ Akbar's book on Sunday

As Nawaz Sharif prepares to take over as Pakistan's prime minister for the third time, here is a revelation from former Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari.

When he was ousted in a military coup in 1999 by then army chief, General Pervez Musharraf, it was the intervention of Reliance Industries chairman Dhirubhai Ambani that saved his life, claims Gadkari. The latter requested then United States president Bill Clinton to save Sharif’s life as "he was an important friend".

This claim was made by Nitin Gadkari at a book release function in Nagpur on Sunday, and is the first such claim by a senior politician.

Gadkari said Ambani made the request at a meeting in Mumbai during Clinton’s visit to India in March 2000, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister. Clinton and his delegation also had a formal event at the Mumbai Stock Exchange, at which Gadkari was present as the leader of opposition in the Maharashtra legislative council.

"Before that programme, Dhirubhai met Clinton and requested him to use his good relations with Musharraf to save Sharif's life, for it was feared that Musharraf would get rid of Sharif like how Zia-ul-Haq got rid of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Dhirubhai said Sharif was his friend and that he should be allowed to live. He also told Clinton that Sharif was as good as his own countrymen because India and Pakistan were one before partition. Both his sons, Mukesh and Anil, were present then,” Gadkari said at a book release function on Sunday.

The book, Talwarinchya Chhayet, a translation of senior journalist MJ Akbar's book The Shade of Swords, is published by Pune's Sarhad Research Centre.

After his visit to India, Clinton went to Pakistan where apparently he secured a pardon for Sharif's life after discussions with Musharraf. "He even conveyed this to Dhirubhai," said Gadkari. Thereafter, Sharif was exiled from Pakistan and offered asylum in Saudi Arabia.

Sanjay Nahar, founder of the Sarhad Research Centre, was present at the event along with Girish Gandhi of Vanrai, as were Akbar and member of Parliament Vijay Darda, when Gadkari made the statement.

Nahar said, "Gadkari made this statement twice in the course of the day. First, he made the statement in informal discussions in the afternoon and then at the evening function. Coming from a former president of the BJP, this statement assumes importance as it shows his concern for stability in Pakistan."

Civil servants across the country have been sent a memo detailing the new dress code, which came into force last week. Sandals and moccasins are now to be worn by all staff, but without socks.
"There shall be no more use of air-conditioners in public offices till such time that substantial improvement in the energy situation takes place," a cabinet directive said.
"The dress code includes white or light coloured shirt (full-sleeved or half sleeved) with light coloured trouser or shalwar kameez with waist coat, and moccasins (shoes without laces) or sandals (shoes with straps) without socks.
"All public servants have been given seven days for preparations and have been directed to observe the dress code."
The unusual step is a sign of Pakistan's increasingly desperate attempts to save electricity, as shortages continue to plunge much of the country into darkness.

Electricity companies are only producing two thirds of Pakistan's required electricity – a result of outdated power generation plants being unable to cope, combined with the government being unable to pay electricity companies for the power they do produce.
Much of the plants were built in the 1960s and are creaking under the strain, while a drought is further hampering power generation.
Musadik Malik, the caretaker minister for water and power until the new government is inaugurated, has also logged a complaint against non-cooperation from ministries of petroleum and finance, who Pakistan Today said are reluctant in making payments.
Power outages lasting as long as 20 hours were recorded in Faisalabad and Gujranwala, while the capital Islamabad has also been hit.
In Peshawar, electricity "load shedding" – black outs – went up to 14 hours, and in the north western tribal areas bordering Afghanistan the situation was worse, with electricity available for only five to six hours per day.
In Punjab, power outage has almost destroyed industry. In Lahore, the country's second largest city, power was cut off for 12 to 14 hours daily, leaving the residents to swelter in 40C heat.
Mr Malik, the minister for water and power, and Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui, minister for petroleum and natural resources, together "expressed their inability to overcome the crisis", the Daily Times said they told a news conference in Lahore, where the temperature was 40C on Monday.
"They have termed financial constraints as a major, and incompetence as a minor, hurdle in resolving the issue," the newspaper said.
"Presenting the realistic picture, the ministers announced that they were going to increase the price of electricity and gas for all sectors."
