The hypocrisy of Narendra Modi’s detractors
Jaggi is tearing apart sickular anal-cysts who are after NaMo.
Jaggi is tearing apart sickular anal-cysts who are after NaMo.
So, the first issue: 2002 and Modi. The objective facts are these: neither India nor Gujarat has been riot-free or communalism-resistant (for details, read here). On an average we have had one major communal conflagration almost every decade. Gujarat got it last in 2002. A decade later we had something nearly as bad in Assam.
What made 2002 different was TV. What made Assam different from Gujarat was also TV – or the lack of it due to Assam’s relative inaccessibility to the media. But there was also an additional factor at work: the general media presumption of guilt when it is the BJP that’s involved. There’s a greater willingness to believe that communal incidents under Congress watch must be mere aberrations. The Congress benefits from our prior and well-entrenched beliefs about who is communal and who is not.
Remove this presumption, and we would have forgotten 2002 as easily as we did 1984 and 2012.
Those who refuse to believe this BJP-is-communal-Congress-is-secular line have an additional argument against Modi: his unwillingness to apologise or express regret for the administrative failures in 2002.

Why Gujarati Muslims are with Modi
by Zafar Sareshwala
by Zafar Sareshwala
Modi and Gujarat are development symbols for the nation. Although the scars of 2002 still remain but it was not just an enigma that more than 31 per cent of the Muslims voted for the BJP in the 2012 Assembly elections. Media has not yet realised this. The reality has not yet dawned that 6 out of 8 Muslim-majority constituencies were won by BJP candidates last December. And this momentum of the Muslims overwhelmingly voting for the BJP continued in the local elections of February 2013. Modi has been time-tested several times in the past decade and this is perhaps the first decade in the last 60 years when Gujarat remained riot-free. The reason was simple. Modi has given the Gujaratis the boon of peace and justice which money can't buy. And across civilisations of the world, people have liked a leader who can provide them peace and justice because prosperity is bound to follow if these are made available to the people.

If he is going to be campaigning in the state assembly elections, as he did in Karnataka, then he needs to ensure that the candidates on whose behalf he is asking for votes are actually candidates that he believes in . Thus he has to have a major say in the process (maybe with assistance from people working under his supervision).Arjun wrote:Any particular reason Modi needs to manage the assembly elections in addition to Lok Sabha? Let him be insulated from after-effects of assembly elections..Pranav wrote:"However, there was no clarity on whether the party would give in to Advani's proposal to set up a separate election management committee for states heading for assembly polls this November."
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/new ... 450998.cms
And BJP voters even in the assembly elections will know that the product they are choosing is backed by the full credibility of NaMo Namah.
What happened in Karnataka was that he was asking for votes without having had any control over the past performance of the government, choice of candidates or responsibility for future performance.

Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
Sir, I hope you are right and I am wrong and am sure Modi is much more capable than I give him credit for. My worry is this is a watershed moment in Indian politics. And time is the enemy. He has to convince the people not just about him but his ideas. People have been used to a certain brand of politics and it takes time to convince them otherwise. Plus a few people in his party aren't convinced themselves. He. should not be handicapped with less time and support and then turn around and say development will not get votes and welfare and caste equations only matter. It is convenient for people to think that way. Am sure quite a few in Sangh parivar are waiting to cut him down to size. A few cashew boys will be propped up. It is quite daunting. My opinion is to let tarrel deepel readels to tilt at windmills one more time and wait for next chance than someone in tarrel mold coming back in 2019 muttering I told you so.Arun Menon wrote:saravana wrote:My gut feeling is that Mr. Modi will not be the PM candidate for 2014 or earlier. There are too many entrenched people fighting against him inside and outside. After all, going by his work in Gujarat, it will be a stop to politics as usual and there are enough snouts in the trough to make it happen unimpeded. There could be post poll calculations and conditions that might preclude Mr. Modi becoming the PM. Mr. Modi should focus on post 2014.
Tarrel than mountain readels can lead the party and show their mettle for the third time.
No need to be defeatist. Despite all kinds of predictions of doom, Mr. Modi is moving steadily towards his goal, albeit at his own pace. Just remember, no matter how entrenched things are, nothing stays the same forever. The time for change has finally come.

Re: Narendra Modi vs the Dynasty: Contrasting Ideas of India
I don't really see that many entrenched people in the BJP fighting against Modi's rise. There is LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Ananth Kumar. Except for Advani others are actually quite short people. None of these really can be sure of winning their own seats without outside help. In 18 months time, two of the above may not even be the Parliamentary Board or any other party post.saravana wrote:My gut feeling is that Mr. Modi will not be the PM candidate for 2014 or earlier. In the wider Sangh Parivar there may of course be others not happy about Modi - Pravin Togadia of VHP, etc..
But surprisingly there aren't that many against Modi in the BJP.

Ramdev was quoted by the daily as saying: "Shivrajji is a good man, doing good work for the country. There are many who are doing good work, including lay farmers and labourers. But there is only man with the saahas to take on the government".
"Those who cannot digest these qualities of Modi should do kapaal bhati (a yogic breathing exercise made famous by the Baba) and improve their digestion," he added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Yoga guru Swami Ramdev had praised Narendra Modi saying that he would be the perfect prime ministerial candidate in the 2014 general elections.

Incidentally, one has noticed Advani fans are always frothing at the mouth regarding Kejriwal, much more so than Modi supporters. I think it reflects the insecurity of having failed in the role of an opposition party, having been completely tamed by Maino.

Well I am not even a member of BJP much less a follower of anybody! I cannot even say I am a follower of Modi, even if I would want to say that. I do however consider myself as a supporter of the BJP as an expression of Bharatiya Nationalism.Pranav wrote:Pranav wrote:IMO if LKA fails to fall in line BJP workers should welcome him at Goa with a bucket of black paint on his head and a shower of chappals.Saar you still regard yourself as a follower of the fellow? And I think one crucial lesson we need to learn as Bharatiyas is that we do not humiliate one from among us! Self-respect as a Bharatiya is possible only if we respect other Bharatiyas.
There is no doubt that LK Advani is a leader of the Bharatiya Nationalist Movement and he has made important contributions to it.
Of course LK Advani is also a politician and a politicians have interests. We don't want our leaders to be a bunch of renunciates either.
He would come around to Modi when he is ready. Give him some time!

Modi has given the Gujaratis the boon of peace and justice which money can't buy. And across civilisations of the world, people have liked a leader who can provide them peace and justice because prosperity is bound to follow if these are made available to the people.
Not only the Muslims of Gujarat, in a recent interview given to 'Milli Gazette', former IG of Police, Maharashtra, SM Mushrif said: "The most safe place for Muslims today is Gujarat." He further says that the state of Maharashtra has done the greatest damage to the Muslim community which is ruled by so-called secular parties like the NCP and the Congress for the last 10 years. So many cannot be wrong at the same time; there remains no doubt about why Muslims are gravitating towards Modi.
No wonder the Modi hate campaigners are finding a hard time to sell their part of story because they are in stark contrast with the ground reality in spite of repeated media-trials.
I remember Mahesh Bhatt, the renowned film director ,once speaking from a Jamiatul Ulema -e-Hind platform in Surat, said and I quote him: "Narendra Modi, sun rahe ho? Jis mazhab ko tum aaye din kehte ho ki ye aatankvadiyon ki gangotri hai, uske Rasool ne kya kaha hai...".as he quoted a Hadith of the Prophet. Mahesh Bhatt soon received a call from Narendra Modi. Modi told him, "Maheshbhai, Musalmaan 5 aaiye, 50 aaiye, 500 aaiye, 5000 aaiye, main milne ko taiyyar hoon, main aapki saari problems ko solve karne ke liye taiyyar hoon. Main aapko ye hi kehna chahta hoon ki main available hoon." Film director Mahesh Bhatt had put forward this to the Islamic leaders of Jamiatul Ulema-e-Hind and to the Muslim community in general.
Here the CM seems to have won over the hearts not by practising divide and rule but by ensuring inclusiveness and submissiveness to the people. Taking into context the Muslims of Gujarat, they had never seen such inclusiveness and such a discrimination-free society. The only thing, every Gujarati was looking for, was development.
In the past, people of Gujarat always lived under the fear of communal riots but efforts and endeavours of prominent Muslims had made it possible for numerous Muslim delegations - Islamic scholars, businessmen, youth, women and even street hawkers to meet Modi. He has met them all and given an ear to their grievances. This was something the Muslims had not seen in the last 40 years of Congress rule. Muslim madarsas were supported. Madarsa students, who had never seen or gone to a school, got a chance to appear for SSC and class XIIth examinations.
The number of Muslims employed in the police force is 12 per cent in Gujarat,. while Muslims employed by the Gujarat state government is around 10 per cent of the total sarkari workforce.
Apart from justice, this government has been able to provide a terror-free atmosphere. So as compared to earlier when a Muslim could not even venture out to some parts, today he or she can freely move around and there is terror-free interaction between the communities. Such an atmosphere was unseen anywhere before 2002 in Gujarat.
Modi is portrayed as anti-minority whereas the experience of the minorities in Gujarat is that Modi is a very minority-friendly person. Not surprisingly, most Christians vote for Modi. They have never complained against his regime.
The most important thing is once the bottom people taste Development and Opportunities, they can't be herded by people like Sonia or Rahul or Owaisi or Dogvijay. This is what terrifies sickular DOGS!n the words of V V Augustine from Kerala, who used to frequently interact with Modi during his tenure as a member of the National Minorities Commission, "People who spread the canard that Modi is against the minorities are reflecting their own political biases. My experience is totally different. He listens very carefully and acts very fast in case of genuine problems. As a member of the Minorities Commission, I dealt with several states. Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar governments have also been good. But no chief minister is as good, as strong and determined as Modi. Now even Muslims realise that Modi is good for them. There are two kinds of Muslims in Gujarat - the rich and the poor. My experience tells me the poor Muslims are solidly with Modi because a riot-free Gujarat and a resurgent economy with new opportunities have benefited the poorer Muslims far more dramatically. It has provided them avenues of upward mobility. Truth is truth, how can I deny facts?"
The end result today is that Gujarat has seen its first ever post-Independence riot-free decade with inclusivene growth. Muslims have gravitated towards Narendra Modi and Modi, the most hated figure in 2002, is the most suitable prime ministerial material for the country in 2013.

In a cadre based party like BJP, I'd be very very surprised if these AC leaders without any mass support whatsoever manage to hijack the PM candidature issue.

There will always be people who have their own ambitions trying to sideline modi. There is nothing wrong with that, it is their legal right. But that should not stop modi. If he feels he is the better of the lot and has a larger support base, he should push forward. Didn't ABV have enemies within the BJP/RSS/Jan Sangh. He had plenty, he maneuvered to reach the top. Modi has done that within Gujarat and has to do the same at the national level. I was not even expecting him to come this far. So far so good, lets see what happens
