OK, now this may just be a tad tooo far...

Smart Namo, the Narendra Modi branded Android phone (TOI)
NEW DELHI: Gujarat chief minister NarendraModi will soon get a smartphone dedicated to him. Smart Namo, an independent body formed by Modi fans, has announced it will soon launch a mobile phone by the same name. The upcoming Android phone is the group members' way of showing their dedication and respect to Modi, the official website for the device says.

According to the website, Namo is an acronym for Narendra Modi as well as Next-generation Android Mobile Odyssey. Modi is popularly referred to as NaMo on social networking websites. Apart from launching the standard version of the device, the group has already starting working on the "Shri Narendra Modi signature edition" handset.
Well, chweet and nice and all but the cynic in moi fears the potential for mischief and self-goals a tad... how so, you ask? sample this...
The Smart Namo group includes Gujarati businessmen who have a mobile business in China. Ammeet Desai, the spokesperson for Smart Namo told The Wall Street Journal that they got the idea for this phone from China itself, where several products like MP3 players and smartphones are sold with branding of the leaders.{Where's the facepalm icon just when you need one...?!}

The group's members will design the phone over the next month and go to Modi for his approval, the report says. Desai said that the group will establish a production plant to manufacture the handsets in Gujarat.{Whew... some saving grace that...}

While it does not give a time line for the launch of the device, the group says it will launch the smartphone "very soon." The report claims that Smart Namo phone will cost Rs 16,000 at launch and have videos as well as apps related to Modi. The group will be selling the phone at cost, thus making no profit from it. {Kyun bhai? And I've been yelling myself hoarse how Namo is the only self-consciously non-socialist mass neta in today's polity...hain ji} Cheaper versions of the device are also in the pipeline, including a feature phone that will cost Rs 1,000.

After Kalraj Misra issuing statement in support of drunkard pervert from B'wood, here comes another move from D4 in UP.
Varun Gandhi lines up rallies in UP to project himself as mass leader

BJP national general secretary Varun Gandhi will hold rallies in Agra and Bahraich districts in September and October with an aim to project himself as a mass leader in Uttar Pradesh. He will address more such rallies in the state till December in the presence of top leaders of the party.

The first rally will be in Fatehpur Sikri of Agra district on September 15 and the second on October 2 in Bahraich.

A team of over a dozen associates of Varun have already begun preparations in Fatehpur Sikri. They have identified the location of the rally and started mobilising workers from Agra and Mathura districts. Sources said that senior BJP leader L K Advani will be the chief guest at the rally, where a gathering of more than 1 lakh people is expected.

The BJP UP unit, however, is yet to receive a formal communication from Varun in this regard. "I have come to know that a rally will be held here on September 15 but the party state unit has not given any directives so far to make preparations for it," said Baby Rani Maurya, BJP state secretary who belongs to Agra.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj will be the main speaker in the rally in Bahraich. A senior BJP leader of the Awadh region said, "During his Bahraich visit on July 24, Varunji had said that a massive rally would be organised here in October and Sushmaji would be chief guest. We will start preparations for the rally after the monsoon."

When contacted, Varun confirmed that several rallies would be held soon, with the first in Fatehpur Sikri. He denied comment on the objective of the rallies.

Sources said the other rallies would be in Shravasti and Orai, where former BJP president Nitin Gadkari will be the main guest. The party's campaign committee chief Narendra Modi is so far not in the list of leaders whom Varun is approaching to be the guest in the rallies.

A senior party leader said Varun had planned one massive rally in the state every month till December with three objectives: Varun wants to project himself as a mass leader, develop his own identity in public and show strength by ensuring huge gatherings in these rallies.

After becoming general secretary, Varun organised a political rally in Bareilly and another in Sultanpur, which shares a boundary with Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Rahul Gandhi. BJP president Rajnath Singh and Gadkari were chief guests at these rallies.

Inside story of CSDS polls as as communicated to us by sources 6 days back
The response was overwhelmingly -50%+ approval for modi. They burnt midnight oil to figure out how to spin data against Modi. Rifts widening in CSDS
The final figure for Modi approval has been whittled down to somewhere around 25%

Mahadevbhu, the survey confirms that NaMo is the most popular leader. Please go through it again.

For your reference, another article about the same survey: Yes, Modi is the most popular leader, Rahul trails: Survey

Wow. So The Hindu really did some chankian-ness by publishing some nonsense about likeability today, did it?

anyways. Modi and Rahul are close to each other in popularity, it seems like;

"When respondents were asked who of the two they wanted to see as the next prime minister, 33 percent favoured Modi and 31 percent favoured Rahul. Among women, the responses were equally divided. Among SCs, Muslims and in the southern States, Rahul has a good lead over Modi. The latter on the other hand leads Rahul comfortably in the Hindi-speaking states and in states where the contest is mainly between the Congress and the BJP."

You are not the first one to notice this :). Chindu's Letters to the Editor is actually a joke. They have some stock "letter writers" (a platoon of Arundhati Roys ;) ) who put in their expert opinion on each and every thing . To act neutral Chindu does publish letters which also gives the opposite view. But the bias of the news paper is pretty much obvious. But the last time the paper got a solid drubbing was when it tried some nasty tricks on Swami Vivekananda. Chindu apologised to its readers.

PS: The Hindu says it is the "India's National News Paper". Does any one know, who they got this "national" tag? They are no way a government agency. Or is it any self-proclaimed title?

Reminds of following couplet from Tulsidas

नवनि नीच कै अति दुखदाई। जिमि अंकुस धनु उरग बिलाई॥
भयदायक खल कै प्रिय बानी। जिमि अकाल के कुसुम भवानी॥

The meekness of a mean creature is a source of great trouble like the bending of a goad,
bow, snake or cat. The sugar coated speech of a villain is as alarming, Bhavani (Parvati),
as the flowers that blossom out of season.

There might be a media play here. Because as per the recent 20 panels/commission formation, Varun is incharge with Anant Kumar for rally organisation:

Methinks, Varun is doing what he is expected to do.

This looks like a misrepresentation by the media to make it look like a revolt against Modi.
Varun Gandhi had a 90 minute meeting with Mohan Bhagawat yesterday and this plan has the blessing of RSS and confirms with the BJP electoral assignments announced recently.
After L K Advani, Narendra Modi, Murli Manohar Joshi and Nitin Gadkari, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat held a 90-minute closed-door meeting with Varun Gandhi Friday.

Sources said the meeting was part of an RSS plan to promote young BJP faces that represent Hindutva as well as development. Days before she was chosen by BJP to establish a connect with first-time voters, Poonam, daughter of the late Pramod Mahajan, had met the RSS chief.

Varun (32) and Poonam (30) are the youngest faces in BJP and sources said Bhagwat thinks they have "potential as future leaders".

"The choice of Varun is due to his strong Hindutva credentials. When he was in jail, Bhagwat, then sarkaryawah, helped him a lot. Poonam is being seen as a parivar child loyal to Bhagwat," the sources said.

Varun, who has been given the charge of West Bengal and has to organise 100 rallies in the country with Ananth Kumar, was reportedly advised by Bhagwat not to court controversies and fall in traps of other parties.

RSS watcher and analyst Dilip Deodhar said: "From the series of meetings Bhagwat is having with BJP leaders, it appears like return of the (Balasaheb) Deoras era when RSS took active interest in party affairs.

"Deoras discarded the legacy of Golwalkar Guruji by dabbling in politics. Bhagwat appears to be following him."

with NaMo at the helm, he will be scrutinising all the rallies and the speakers their machinations etc.
NaMo has come along way. also many others have hitched their bandwagon on to his leadership.
D4 is nowhere in the scene. low purush is going lower and lower with each passing day. He cannot carry the political future of the rest of his brigade.
The wriitng is clearly oin the wall.

Amongst the potential leaders only low purush had the best chnace which has been unsuccessful.

so whatever congi presstitutes write one should not lose heart.

------------------------------------------------------------------

it is good if congi pressititutes give prominence to all BJP leaders free of charge to spite NaMo and create schisms in the minds of the supporters and neutral voters. 8)

SSC is no babe in the woods. IIRC he was responsible in getting Uma Bharati removed from her post as CM of MP. After all he is a politician. You don't survive in politics in India without being ruthless in some way.

Having said that, SSC has done good work in MP, and is quite popular. IMHO it is OK if he does not put Modi on his election posters or ask Modi to attend his election rallies. What he is saying, in essence, is that he can manage pretty well on his own the Assembly and Lok sabha elections in MP, and does not need NaMo's help. And that should be fine, as it frees NaMo up to focus on other states that are in contention. It also shows that he is a capable leader who should be groomed by BJP for bigger role on the national level in future.

The only danger vis-a-vis SSC that I see for now is his being manipulated against NaMo by the D4. People like LKA and SushmaSwaraj cannot win a Lok Sabha seat on their own, so they need safe seats in 2014. NaMo is unlikely to accommodate them in Gujarat this time, so their best bet is to get their seats in MP through SSC. That is when they will try to pump up SSC's ego and pit him against NaMo.

To counter this, NaMo will have to work out his own equation privately with SSC (and Raman Singh and Manohar Parrikar and vaundhara Raje), so that they are assured of significant roles under a NaMo dispensation at the center, and thus neutralize D4.

As for Shatrughan Sinha, he did stellar service for the BJP during the '80s when it was politically 'untouchable'. Shatrughan was quite popular then, and his joining the BJP, and participating in BJP rallies, made quite a difference in the Hindi heartland. He was perhaps the first Bollywood star to have joined the BJP, so we should recognize his service.

Having said that, I think his contribution to the BJP over the last two decades has been net negative. He sulked big time during ABV Govt until he was granted a ministership, and then he was a big flop as a central minister. He spent more time decorating his office than doing any actual work.

He has become a total Dilli-billi now, and is quite cozy with the Congis and other parties, and quite distant from ordinary BJP karyakartas. In the meantime, his star appeal has gone down, and he is not a crowd puller any more.

I think he is playing a slimy game in opposing NaMo. He knows he is not going to get far in a NaMo dispensation. May not even get a Lok Sabha ticket this time. So he may be angling to get suspended from BJP, so he can jump into the arms of Niku and get a ticket from JD(U). Then he would do his rona-dhona in public as to how NaMo ungratefully kicked him out after his decades-long service. This could impact a few seats in Bihar which would suit Niku and LKA in their fight against NaMo.

With friends like these NaMo doesn't need enemies.

It is quite possible that Ms. Roy might even be instigating her "dhilli billi" "chelas" (IOW chemmach or spoons) to write those letters using her (Wo)Man Booker Prize money. After all it was the "only noose paper from the Indian Subcontinent" on Queen's desk who would cut it with her "Kohinoor" encrusted letter opener. I wonder what time her mornings would have started? A few Beefeaters and that would be the time when a mangu-changu like moi would be returning home from a day's back-breaking honest work.

Rajput exodus to BJP expected

The BJP is expecting a Rajput exodus from all parties in its favour ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. BSP's Vijay Bahadur Singh, who was recently expelled by Mayawati for supporting Narendra Modi, is all set to join the BJP. The other Rajput leaders in touch with BJP president Rajnath Singh are Congress MP from Sultanpur, Sanjay Singh; Independent MLA from Rae Bareilly, Akhilesh Singh; and the infamous Raja Bhaiyya. Around two dozen Rajput MLAs are feeling orphaned after Amar Singh's exit from the Samajwadi Party and have queued up behind Raja Bhaiyya. After the SP stripped Raja Bhaiyya of his ministerial post in the wake of the murder of the superintendent of police of Kunda, a revolt has broken out among SP's Rajputs. It is to be seen when Raja Bhaiyya walks over to the BJP and how many MLAs he brings with him.

From Ram Vilas Paswan

Q: What triggered the split between the BJP and JD-U?

A: First of all, I don't see this as an ideological split. Had Nitish Kumar anything to do with ideology, he would have never sat in the lap of the RSS for 17 years. Nitish Kumar talks about L.K. Advani. But he forgets that in 1995 BJP had two faces – Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L.K. Advani. Advani represented the communal face of the BJP. In 2013, he says Advani's face is secular and Narendra Modi is communal. People understand all this. In fact, the split was a result of the fight between the Advani and Modi lobbies in the BJP. The Advani lobby wanted Nitish Kumar to put pressure on the BJP not to elevate Modi as the election campaign committee chief at the Goa meeting. Nitish had thought that BJP will succumb to his pressure tactics, and then he will boast that he has control over the BJP and Modi. He had also assumed that he would be a contender for the Prime Minister's post in case neither the BJP nor the Congress gets a majority in the general elections, as he can claim to the Congress, that he was able to rein in Modi. But the strategy boomeranged. They never thought that the RSS had made up its mind about backing Modi, no matter whatever the consequences. Nitish Kumar was not in a position to retract as he had gone too far.

Q: What, in your view, will be the political implication of the break-up between BJP and JD-U in Bihar as well in the country?

A: JD-U was very much dependent of BJP's cadre strength, which has grown remarkably in Bihar in the last 7-8 years. The party is much better organized compared to JD-U. Unlike JD-U, where there is only one leader, the BJP has got a second rung leadership in the state. Even in the JD-U, there was no unanimity over the issue of the split. Sharad Yadav's politics always revolved around anti-Congressism. If Nitish talks too much about Congress or secularism there can be a split in his party. The rebels are just waiting for the right opportunity. The Congress, on the other hand, is watching. At present they have many options like the SP, BSP, DMK and now JD-U, who will be there to bail it out in Parliament. It will use them as per its need. Our assessment is that the next Lok Sabha election will see a straight fight in Bihar between the RJD-LJP combine and the BJP. The JD-U, without the BJP, has lost its strength in Bihar. It won't be a surprise if JD-U tally gets confined to the single digit. JD-U, despite being in power, will be marginalized.

This is exactly what all surveys said in the previous round of surveys, until yogendra yadav/CSDS/CNN-IBN/Hindu came up with this concocted survey.

The following is important.
While Prasad's intention may well have been to create fear among a section of his social coalition of Muslims and Yadavs, so that they vote cleverly to prevent such an eventuality, RJD's main rival, JD(U), has begun claiming that he has gone "soft" on the BJP.
Laloo is playing a fall guy to help Nistish's utterances gets credibility. In the end Laloo+Paswan+INC will go together. There is a hate-Laloo stuff in Bihar's forward classes and they want to grab a few of this away from BJP. Again, this is all a trial balloon and does not mean a success.

From the pioneer

MODI TO WOO HINDI BELT

http://www.dailypioneer.com/todays-news ... -belt.html

Posting in full.
The BJP is planning an extensive nationwide road show of its most popular leader Narendra Modi, who is also the party’s campaign committee chief.

The idea behind this event is to capitalise on Modi’s popularity by making him cover maximum parts of the country in less time. But this would be a slight deviation from “Yatra politics”, which Modi’s campaign managers feel has lost its sheen, of late.

Modi’s aides are also in consultation with different groups to replicate his Gujarat-type 3D campaign on the national level. Called 3D-L, the national campaign would be an “upgraded” and “refined” version of the Gujarat model. Modi’s 3D shows at 53 locations across 26 cities in one go during the Gujarat campaign had made it to the Guinness Book of World Records.

“We have already moved (on these campaign events). We are looking for a suitable name for the road show. It will be different from a yatra in a way as Modi would not address three or four rallies on a daily basis,” sources close to Modi told

Extensive thrust is being laid on Uttar Pradesh and Bihar — together making for 120 Lok Sabha seats. The schedule of this event will be planned in such a manner that Modi visits every nook and corner of these two States of the Hindi heartland.

The rough sketch of the proposed road show outlines a travel of 150 to 200 km everyday, halt during nights, Sah-Bhoj (community feast) with workers, visiting villages on the route and addressing group of people, if they turn out in large numbers.

“It is becoming quite difficult to make arrangements for one or two rallies every day. With the kind of outreach that 24X7 television has, even the Press prefers not to physically visit the rally venue. So we are not thinking of clubbing rallies with the road show. However, separate rallies would certainly be held,” sources said.

They claimed, with Modi hitting the street, it will create an “atmosphere” in the favour of the BJP and will lift the morale of party cadre.

The party has not taken a call on the timing of this yatra and it would depend upon the “sense” that it will gather during the first ten days of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session and the Prime Minister’s speech on August 15.

“If we feel that UPA could hold early elections then these events would start by September. Else there could be a delay of a month or two,” a BJP leader said.

A Gujarat-based company has already made a presentation to Modi’s aides for the 3D-L campaign. One such presentation was made to senior BJP leaders during the recent Goa conclave of the BJP.

“A final call on these events would be taken once the meeting of the entire campaign committee and sub-panel related to it is held in the first or second week of August,” sources said.

Chairman and members of the sub-panels are being directed to visit States and make arrangements to lift BJP’s campaign at the lower level. A Central War Room, to oversee the entire campaign, would be soon set up in the national Capital. Screening Committees for States are also being set up to suggest leaders on “dos and don’ts” to avoid violation of model code of conduct during elections.
All in all, a purposive, decisive and fwd looking campaign. Would've expected nothing less from NM. The difference that genuine fervor and passion (the kind money can't buy) amongst ordinary karyakartas and volunteers can make on voting day would be worth watching. Or so I hope.

I know this view may well be unpopular on this dhaga but so be it....

Consider exhibit A in Hindu's nonpartisan and facyual coverage... NM's SRCC speech. I challenge anyone here to name one, any one, news vehicle that had covered the context around that speech as well and deeply as the Hindu did.

They alone covered the raging protests outside the speech venue by genuinely liberal students of SRCC. Doesn't that count for anything? So what if that was the only thing they covered about the whole speech, eh?

He need his girl to continue "work" in Hindi films. So even in BJP he needs to be 'secular' and opposing Modi is a basic requirement to be secular.

Oh nice. So what kind of a party is BJP that features a pervert on stage in its meetings?
Again, the attitude being shown here is that "if I see someone not acting according to how I'd like the script to go, I will start calling them names on BRF".
Just FYI, BRF is not your venting room.

Often the not-comfy with Modi leadership in BJP are remnants of 1977 Janata experiment. I see three BJPs.

ABV and LKA types - old BJS
D4 types - JP followers
NM, SSC, RS, MP etc - new BJP

Looks like the new BJP is RSS mentored.

Also Shatrughan Sinha has quite bit of rapport with Nawaz Badmash and could be useful in future if needed.

I think he should be allowed stay to show BJP tolerance.

Exactly. It is heights of stupidity, to quell dissent and difference of opinions - at the drop of a hat. It is not Army, where obedience and discipline are paramount - having huge rule in saving or taking lives.

BJP, should approach each episode on a case to case basis - and not behave like Rahul who expects his part workers and politicians to tow the party line all the time. If Sinha is actively colluding with INC or other party to bring BJP then he should be expelled, not because he favors one leader over another.

Modi cannot work without intellectual/elite support, as they bring legitimacy to his accomplishments and vision.

Where did the meme of Rahul being a dumb, silly, idiot (essentially a man with sub par intelligence) come from ? And why?

I know it is tactical advantage to portray him as a dumb guy, just like in America Bush was portrayed as a dumb guy. I disagree with such portrayal. Just because people drop out of schools or have different opinions, or come to different conclusions is not sufficient enough to decide they have intelligence sub par.

So why the caricature of Rahul being a dim-witted and dumb guy?

^^^
1. Rani ki Jhansi (beehive, no coherent tying of sentences during his long blabbering speech)
2. Ask the designers/manufacturers of Aakash tablet when it will be ready! (Not knowing that Kapil Sibal is in his own government)
3. What will you do to solve the "education" problem in India. (Reverse question when questioned)
4. People of Gujarat are angry with Modi (immediately after Modi is re-elected 3rd time)

RG has not stepped out. Both SG and RG has not gone beyond prepared speeches and doctored interviews. People do forgive genuine mistakes, but they do want to see their leader in action. Provide some direction, echo their hearts and minds etc

Lilo: Thanks, I am not in a place to view those videos. I have watched couple of them before. In the first case where he accosted the student was he was cornered, and politicians get cornered and weasel out of situations all the time. Some do it elegantly than others. The last one is related to Uttarkhand, right? Again he was being at the most a nasty politician.

Disha: I trust most of the talks/speeches in desh are prepared too. So can the beehive analogy considered a misfire on the part of his 'think tank', or does he take the blame for that? I am not sure if he was the right person to ask some of those questions, so he ended up trying to weasel out. I do think when presented a question, and if he does not know the answer, he should have the gumption and conviction to state his opinion and vision. For example the education question.

All these happen because he seems to be not well-prepared on the subjects, or as an individual who has not threw those topics with his core team. That is the contrast between him and Modi. Modi seems to have the answers - because I assume he or his team have discussed these at least from a perspective of campaign mode. After hearing his speeches for some time, I believe he has convictions in some of those topics and at some point in his life thought about them.

So if I were Rahul, I would take some time off (from whatever he is doing), and spend a month or two in trying to understand the problems of the country and have the ability to address some of those issues.

I do not know if he is dumb or intelligent, but he seems ill-prepared to wrestle with the problems of the country.
