Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Nope, There is no Hindu vote in TN. so she is being smart. Karunanidhi has put chappals on Sri Rama's photos and called Hindus robbers, yet a large chunk vote DMK. So I think Amma is playing smart as we have seen from the past. Minorities will rally around religious benefits, majority are caste based.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
^^ Things are now different in TN... Several caste groups are allying together... If BJP ties with PMK+ allied caste groups, It won't be easy for JJ to win.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
^^ This has been always a mystery to me. The people in the state are as religious as any other, atleast a small temple on alternate streets and quite open about their faith. But come politics, most of the folks are nonchalant about politicians abusing Hinduism.
EDIT: Of course caste matters but this is orthogonal to caste.

LoC killings: Another minister embarrasses Nitish Kumar by giving Pakistan clean chit
Jamui (Bihar): After the controversy over statement by Bihar Minister Bhim Singh on the killing of five Indian soldiers along LoC, his colleague in Nitish government has now raised hackles by giving a clean chit to Pakistan over the issue.
"I don't believe that Pakistan is responsible for the incident (killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani army on the LoC in Poonch district) on Tuesday," Agriculture minister Narendra Singh on Saturday said, in remarks which come as further embarrassment for the Nitish Kumar led JD(U) government.
"Pakistan is our younger brother and a neighbour," he commented when asked about the firing incident in which jawans of 21st Bihar Regiment were killed when they were patrolling along LoC on Tuesday last. Four of the five army men killed were from Bihar.

On Thursday, Rural Works and Panchayati Raj Minister Bhim Singh had said that policemen and soldiers are recruited to make sacrifices for the nation, for which he later apologised after his comments created a furore.:

How on earth do you get Muslim votes by insulting your own soldiers and state dwellers ? How ? How ?
Do they think that a Indian Muslim would feel good and happy if you denigrate a fallen soldier. What evils have we performed in past lives to deserve this kind of legislatures.
Guess we are worse than those folks at westbro baptist church.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
No. That is because of the lack of any Hindu leader to check them. I've said this before, there is huge Hindu votebank to capture across the nation, but sadly there was no taker till recently. The moment NM showed his steel, the entire nation is with him. INC and alikes may still win this election, but he is doing an all important job of awakning the Hindu pride and makes sure their voice is heard and are counted in the equation.kshatriya wrote:That is because DMk/AIADMK has local caste leaders who convince the voters irrespective of the secular BS that comes from chennai

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Politicians aren't exactly fools unlike what people here love to believe. They must be getting votes from certain communities by doing what they are doing otherwise they wouldn't have cared much to make any kind of statement about it. You seem to have forgotten a recent incident (for the sake of "secularism" I guess) so here's a pictorial reminderVikasRaina wrote:How on earth do you get Muslim votes by insulting your own soldiers and state dwellers ? Yes. The only leeway is when elections are declared and EC promulgates the orders under the President's dispensation.

Move to side-line Jogi: Is Congress heading for a split in Chhattisgarh?
Fissures within the leadership of Chhattisgarh's opposition Congress are widening, threatening a split in the main opposition party just few months ahead of the upcoming assembly polls in the state.
Matters have reached a head between rival factions, led by state's first chief minister Ajit Jogi a mass leader with pan-Chhattisgarh support base, and state's PCC chief Dr Charandas Mahant and other leaders at the helm of organization after Jogi embarked on a five a day tour-virtually throwing the gauntlet to his political adversaries. Mahant and other party leaders have been trying to side-line and isolate Jogi; apparently with the tacit support of few central leaders.

Harayana is the only state where I would want to see the principal opposition party i.e. INLD get decimated either by Congress or by BJP+HJP.
BJP somehow should not prop up INLD. Congress is corrupt but INLD has been Corrupter in chief with no resulting benefit of development to the state.

Delhi hit by massive poll scam: Election commission unearths 13 lakh bogus voters and over 80,000 valid voter cards for dead people
The office of the Delhi Chief Election Commissioner has uncovered a massive electoral scam involving the use of forged documents to obtain voter identity cards for suspected Bangladesh nationals, 13 lakh bogus voters and inflated voter numbers per family in about 20,000 households.
Huge irregularities have been unearthed in the old electoral rolls of the city, resulting in the deleting of the names of about 13 lakh bogus voters from the old list over the last few months.
Surprisingly, during a revision exercise, officials found over 80,000 valid voter cards for dead people. The election office is now engaged in a summary revision. The Delhi Election Commission has deleted 13 lakh names as they were "bogus" voters.

In WB, Bdeshis are helped by local politicians, babus or influential people to get voter ID, ration card, etc sometimes in exchange of money. It is all very well organized and easy. who is going to finance it? gullible holloi polloi of course
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
When idea of cold storage came up, there were many who talked of efficiency and loss of wastage and of course 'progress' but not of competitive price rise or election loot. No one now talks of importing onions since we have cold storage no? In Australia price of onions is about 20Rs per kg. Won't be surprised if onions in Australia would be export quality onions from India. It's an open season to loot because innocent people are elected by innocent vote bank and no one in the whole country would know details.
God forbid if NaMo makes farmers in Gujarat grow onions it will be blow and onion tears to secularism. The most corrupt are pseudo-sec for electing corrupt for sake of pseudo secularism.
So what are benefits to pseudo-seculars for electing the currupt? Race to grab power and punish non-pseudo-seculars?

Nafed is the main canalizing agency for export of Onion and is largest exporter of onion.
india does export a lot of onion and during period of supply shortage, export is not stopped as NAFED would suffer. Nafed is headed by INC MLA Dr. Bijender Singh, from nangloi. So it is not Pawar as such but congoons involved in this. They had created this crisis in 2004. making this crisis now does not make sense. Looks like production has really suffered and if export is stopped Pawar and his farmers would lynch congoons in Maha. Catch 22 , perhaps.

Doesn't seem to be the case if NCEAR reports are any pointer
http://www.linkedin.com/groups/New-Seas ... .203775619
National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCEAR) has estimated a 20 percent drop in
onion output for 2012-13, while domestic as well as export demand for Indian onions will remain strong.
As per initial estimate, area under Rabi crop (Harvest - December/January ) of onion in India could be down by 30-40% due to shortage of water.
eastimating price boostup due to this loss of yeild during early Rabi crop (November/December) arrival, For 100% new crop white onion kibbled is around USD 1950 to 2000/ton FOB Port of Pipavav / Mundra - which is a bit higher compare to last season,
Another Report
http://www.freshplaza.com/news_detail.asp?id=110990Onion and potato prices shot up sharply across the country, except north India, on supportive fundamentals. While the damage of potato crop in the hilly areas, especially in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, lifted traders’ sentiments, stockists held onion in anticipation of further price rise until the new season crop hits the market in October.
Data compiled by the Nashik-based National Horticulture Research & Development Foundation (NHRDF) showed that onion prices rose by up to 41 per cent in the last two weeks on reduced supply from stockists. Guwahati was the worst hit in price rise with 41 per cent, followed by Mumbai at 31.48 per cent.
Potato followed suit with prices swelling by up to 42 per cent in Hubli (Karnataka). In Kanpur, one of India’s largest producing centres, potato prices jumped a marginal 7.14 per cent in the last fortnight.
“Stockists have started releasing stocks intermittently in anticipation of lower quantity of goods in warehouses. Since stocks at 2.7 million tonnes are 5-10 per cent lower across the country, compared to the last year, stockists are making profits to the maximum extent possible,” said R P Gupta, director, NHRDF.
According to Tariq Anwar, minister of state for agriculture, onion production is estimated to remain lower by 4 per cent at 16.82 million tonnes during FY13.
This year, however, early monsoon rainfall has benefited onion sowing. Thus, overall area during the kharif sowing season is estimated to remain 15-20 per cent higher from the level of around 200,000 hectare (ha) in the previous year. Early and late kharif seasons constitute around 20 per cent each, while the remaining 60 per cent of around 1 million ha acreage is covered in rabi season.
Apparently, onion arrivals have declined steadily during the past two weeks. Plying of truck was hampered due to heavy rainfalls across the country. For potato, however, June-July is a harvesting season when crop matures in hilly areas. Because of the recent flood in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, a major portion of crop has been damaged.
However my comments were based on unprecedented rainfall in UK and HP areas which caused Onion crop damages and this was one of the possible outcome pointed out by some when I was watching Kedarnath tragedy.
However hoarding can not be ruled out.

INC does not want to be in power OR to be seen responsible when Indrashakti strikes. This is the evasive maneuver. They want to have presence as dominant opposition in front of weak BJP govt (one like ABV) preferably headed by NM so that the blame of India suffering from Indrashakti can be put squarely on BJP and NM, thereby decimating them in next elections and eat fruits of the stringent measures taken by NM (who will take hard decisions true to his dharma which are essential).niran wrote:and the theory is?Atri wrote:

Until the Indrashakti (recession AND Jihad from AFG) is blamed squarely on INC (it is their making after all) by most of the aam janta without any doubt in their collective mind whatsoever, BJP should stay in opposition and keep being seen as right guys. There is no point in causing the debacle of this govt. They should be allowed to linger as long as possible with NM seen as a knight in shining armor.
