Finally the Varanasi blast is being unravelled:

Yasin Bhatkal masterminded the 2010 Varanasi bomb blast

yasin Bhatkal masterminded the 2010 Varanasi Bomb blast

Mohammad Ahmed Siddibapa alias Yasin Bhatkal was the chief architect of the 2010 bombing of Sheetla Ghat in Varanasi, he has reportedly told his interrogators.

He was helped by fellow Indian Mujahideen operatives Asadulla Akhtar alias Haddi, Mohammad Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu, and Wakas alias Ahmed, a sources in the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad said.

The bomb was planted by Asadulla and Wakas. Yasin and Tehseen were also in Varanasi when the bomb went off on the evening of December 7, 2010 and killed two persons, the source said. The bomb, sources said, was assembled at a house in Darbhanga, Bihar, and transported by bus to Patna, and then to Varanasi. They planned to place the bomb where Ganga Aarti is performed to cause maximum damage, Yasin reportedly told his interrogators, but due to some confusion it was left on the stone staircase
.

Yasin and Asadulla were arrested on August 28, and the NIA has announced rewards of Rs 10 lakh each on Tehseen, and Wakas, who is suspected to be a Pakistani.

The NIA has intensified its hunt for Tehseen after Yasin reportedly told them he could be hiding in Lucknow or Kanpur.

NIA to hold Yasin till Sept 21

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court Tuesday extended Yasin Bhatkal's NIA custody till September 21 after the agency contended that it needs more time to interrogate him as he had been involved in "subversive activities of causing blasts in different parts of India" since 2003. On the other hand, the NIA wanted Yasin's associate Asadulla Akhtar, who was arrested with him, to be remanded in judicial custody. But NIA's

Hyderabad unit sought permission to arrest him in connection with the February 21, 2013 blasts in Hyderabad's Dilsukhnagar. The court granted the plea and sent Asadulla in two days transit remand of the unit. PTI

From the Bhatkal revelations there is modus operandi (tow differetn teams one to scout and one to plant bombs) and a signature bomb design(Ammonium Nitrate with electonic watch timers) they have which is used repeatedly.
Looks like the IM was involved in most of the bomb attacks spread all over India.

Then why was Doggy Singh giving cover to the IM operatives since 2009?

It would be an interesting exercise to data mine the various bomb blasts thread and correlate to the Yasin Bhatkal confessions.

X-post...
IM role of dishonor...

Looks like most of the blast cases invovlved IM.

What about the Bodh Gaya attack? maybe another covert module?

I beg your pardon!

There is everything that is wrong with the above approach. This is an existential problem.

Hence, one has to think in terms of solving this "problem" permanently, by emancipating and liberating RoPers from the control of the clerics.

This can be done. The key is to first start thinking along these lines.

RomeshT: as ugly as the proposal sounds, its what Hindus are left with, in the presence of a belligerent Muslim population with active state connivance. If Hindus dont stand up and counter punch, they will get steam-rolled over. Sometimes its as simple & necessary as that.

If the State did its job (in terms of non-appeasement, rule of the law, prevention of riots, punishing the guilty promptly etc), street justice wouldnt be necessary

As a fact-finding team from New Delhi, we are dismayed by the evidence we see of the severity of the violence in the villages. The official count of those killed is thirty-nine, of which it has been firmly established, six were Hindus – or more specifically Jats – and the rest, Muslims. Again, the official estimate of those displaced is twenty-five thousand, of which all except about seven hundred are Muslims. Those displaced from other faiths, the DM affirms, are Dalits who have fled Muslim-dominated areas in fear of retaliatory violence. They have not been specific targets of violence though.

Jolly canal surrounding shrub forest has still not been combed by UP authorities for any victims or dead bodies as per times now sting, even after 10 days have passed after the actual event. How is such callousness from the State Govt being tolerated by right-minded organizations. Why is not there any massive campaign against ISI Yadav or his son by any groups or civil society yet. Anyways what is the excuse for BJP, VHP, BD, Congress, JP, SS D4, SS, AJ and other worthies from picking up this issue and giving it more media publicity. Why this deathly silence from usual suspects. Is it the oncoming elections. In any case, this is a very shameful silence, and even those who keep silent will not be able to preserve any credibility and will lose credibility in this fight.

The last time I was in des (south India). The islamists were so brazen in their contempt and hatred. You can see it in their eyes if you are not one of them. They also turn abusive. For ex: God help you if you get into a accident with one of them. I also noticed that many of the younger teens are itching for a fight. The other thing i keep noticing every time i go back is the increase in Burqas.

Not that there is anything wrong with following any religion, but Indian constitution should have a provision to ban any religion that promotes exclusivity and believes in special people. Strictly banning exclusivity in the form of cults, religions and enforcing it severely is a must for any future secular state to survive. In that respect I agree with the many knowledgeable posters here that Bharath is doomed :(

While the situation is grim, we should not resign ourselves.

I have read a recent book titled, “Defeating Political Islam: The New Cold War.”

The author of the book has devoted an entire section on India’s existential fight with Islamic radicalism.

Here’s more about this author: http://www.moorthymuthuswamy.com/About% ... uthor.html

This person appears to have developed the knowhow of how India can defeat the enemy.

It seems to me that rather than trying this and that, to tackle violent RoPers, we should tap into his expertise.

WOW!! The Empire strikes back!!

Unit set up by V K Singh used secret funds to try and topple J&K govt, block Bikram Singh: Army inquiry

Misusing secret service funds to destabilise the Omar Abdullah government in Jammu and Kashmir, to pay off an NGO to try change the line of succession in the Army top brass, to buy off-air interception equipment, to conduct "unauthorised" covert operations — a string of alleged irregularities by the Technical Services Division (TSD), a controversial Military Intelligence (MI) unit set up by former Army Chief General V K Singh in May 2010, should come under the scanner of an external agency like the CBI.

This is a key recommendation of a secret Board of Officers inquiry report into the functioning of the TSD. The inquiry was led by Lieutenant General Vinod Bhatia, DG, Military Operations.

The report, which includes original Army documents and notings, was submitted to the then Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma around March this year. It has rattled the security establishment and prompted a series of measures to curtail MI's powers, tighten monitoring of its covert operations and its use of secret service (SS) funds.

Government and Army sources have confirmed to The Indian Express that a summary of the report has been put up by the Ministry of Defence to Minister A K Antony who is understood to have instructed that its contents be brought to the notice of the Prime Minister's Office. The report has been examined, sources said, at the "highest levels" in the MoD and the PMO.

National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon is known to have chaired more than one high-level meeting to discuss the report and follow-up action.

Sources said the report contains financial details of withdrawals of SS funds from accounts of the State Bank of India that match payments claimed by TSD officials — in their statements to the Board — for specific operations. It, however, cautions that given the covert nature of these operations, there is an element of "deniability''.

Significantly, the Board of Officers inquiry took detailed testimonies of key personnel of the Army's Intelligence Corps who were attached to TSD units, including Colonel Hunny Bakshi, who handled its key operations.

There are also statements from other senior MI officials who were not associated with TSD but have confirmed what they described as "siphoning'' of large sums of money for purchase of snooping equipment and operations.

The Indian Express has learnt that the report cites testimonies of officials on money taken from SS funds for operational expenses by the TSD at the expense of other commands and field units. These claims include:

* Rs 1.19 crore given to Ghulam Hassan Mir, presently Agriculture Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, to engineer a change of Governmrnt in Jammu and Kashmir. When contacted by The Indian Express, Mir called the charge baseless.

* Rs 2.38 crore was given to one Hakikat Singh on orders from Army Headquarters. Hakikat Singh set up an NGO named "Jammu and Kashmir Humanitarian Service Organisation (JKHSO)," which was linked to "Yes Kashmir," another NGO which filed a PIL against then Army Commander Bikram Singh (who is now the Army Chief) in the alleged fake encounter case in Jangalat Mandi when Bikram Singh was a Brigadier. That PIL, which was later dismissed, was widely seen as an attempt to scuttle Bikram Singh's appointment and change the line of succession in the top brass.

n Rs 8 crore was spent on purchase of interception equipment from a Singapore-based company in November 2010 ostensibly meant to be deployed in the J&K 15 Corps. In March 2012, following orders of the then DG, MI, Lt Gen D S Thakur, the equipment was physically destroyed. Incidentally, this happened days after a report in The Indian Express on the illegal use of this equipment in New Delhi.

* Frequent foreign travel by TSD officials to places like London and Dubai using their personal and not official passports and of specific TSD officials "doctoring'' documents to tarnish Army officers.

Officials in the MoD and PMO familiar with the Bhatia inquiry report told The Indian Express that with such details, the Army could well have initiated action against serving and retired officials but it has instead submitted the original records to the Ministry, leaving the final decision to them.

Indeed, when contacted, the Army spokesman said: "The case (the Bhatia report) has been closed from our side."

Said a top PMO official: "The problem confronting us while dealing with the TSD report has been two-fold. One, those running the TSD appear to have covered their tracks well and destroyed crucial evidence; two, the statements contained in the inquiry report have no legal sanction. In fact, if they are faced with a court martial or CBI inquiry, these officials can turn around and deny everything they have admitted before General Bhatia.''

Sources also said that before he demitted office in May, then Defence Secretary Sharma gave instructions that MI should now submit a quarterly statement of expenditure of SS funds to the Ministry of Defence.

The Government has also taken up the issue of a strict charter and mandate for the MI given that the agency is required to engage itself in only counter-intelligence and anti-militancy operations on the border and not conduct any covert or clandestine operations like the TSD did. Also, instructions have been given that, henceforth, no special units, such as the TSD, are to be raised without authorization from the Ministry of Defence.

Intermediary tells express: GEN SINGH said you will get it in the neck if you publish

Former Army Chief General V K Singh was contacted on telephone by The Indian Express on September 17 but did not respond to calls or text messages. The next day, he was sent a set of questions seeking his comments on the TSD and the findings of the inquiry report.

To confirm the email's receipt and to again try and reach Singh, The Indian Express contacted Kunal Verma, a photojournalist commissioned by Singh — when he was Army Chief — to write a set of three pictorial books on the North-East.

On September 19, Verma called this reporter early in the morning with an offer to fix a meeting with Singh. A few hours later, he said Singh had told him to convey that "he does not wish to speak to The Indian Express and should the newspaper write anything about me they will get it in the neck".

Verma claimed that Singh was unable to read the email since he was shifting residence and could not access it on his phone since it was not functioning. Verma asked for the email to be copied to him which The Indian Express declined to do.

Later in the evening, however, PTI reported Singh as saying: "This (an apparent reference to the Bhatia report) is simple vendetta as some people are not comfortable with me sharing the dais with Narendra Modi to espouse the cause of ex-servicemen in the country."

He told PTI that if anyone has recommended a probe into the functioning of the unit, then that person is "talking through his hat" as its operations were meant to be secret.

And here what Tavleen Singh has to say....
Now that things have calmed down enough in Muzaffarnagar for the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi to make a visit the time has come for some dispassionate analysis. Not just of what happened in this particular riot but of what could be happening in Muslim communities across India. In situations of communal tension we have become so accustomed to blaming Hindus that we could be missing something insidious and very dangerous. We could be missing signs of radicalisation in the Muslim community that we do not dare talk about because it is so politically incorrect especially in the aftermath of communal violence that usually results in the death of more Muslims than Hindus. In Muzaffarnagar it has been heartbreaking to see injured children and disturbing to see whole villages emptied of their residents because Muslims fear for their lives. This is why it is easier to blame administrative incompetence and Hindu perfidy than Islamic radicalisation for what happened. But, it is important to confront the reality of radicalization among Indian Muslims and try and deal with it or consequences for the future are likely to be too awful to contemplate.

More than a bit of radicalisation
In the name of ‘secularism’ neither the government of Akhilesh Yadav nor the Sonia-Manmohan government in Delhi are likely to accept that behind the violence in Muzaffarnagar lies a deeper, darker reality. It manifested itself in the violence with which Muslims responded when the two young Jat men came seeking to avenge their sister’s honour. And, it manifested itself in the rumours that Muslim rioters in the area used automatic weapons to attack Hindus and security forces. Details remain so murky of what actually happened that I called a retired police officer in Lucknow whose analysis I trust and asked him if he had heard that automatic weapons were used. He said he had.

This led inevitably to my next question. Did he think there was a bit of radicalisation among Muslims in this part of western Uttar Pradesh? This is how he answered. ‘What do you mean a bit of radicalisation? Have you never heard of the Dar-ul-Uloom in Deoband? This is all the same area and for many years now there has been evidence of jihadi elements and of all kinds of weapons being smuggled into the districts of Muzzafarnagar and Shaamli…so yes there is more than a bit of radicalisation and it has been there since the late eighties, early nineties.’

Remember that it was in a village in western UP, not far from here, where Omar Sheikh imprisoned his foreign hostages in 1994. He was arrested in connection with the kidnappings and remained in an Indian jail cell till he was released in exchange for the passengers of IC-814 five years later. He went on to organise the beheading of Daniel Pearl and other acts of jihadi violence.

My point is that the ugly, crowded town of Muzaffarnagar, and its surrounding villages, has long been a hotbed for jihadi violence. It is unfortunate that the media has not gone into this aspect of what happened. All we have had so far are tirades on national TV about how politicians are exploiting the situation for petty political gains. That is an old story. They always do. The new element is the sinister influences of the international jihad and the inability of the ‘secular’ government of Uttar Pradesh to do anything about this or to deal with situations of communal tension with an even hand. From all accounts an even hand was absent in the way in which the Muzaffarnagar violence was handled.

The Samajwadi Party government in Lucknow appears to have been tougher on the Hindu community without having managed to impress Muslims by doing this. The most prominent Muslim in the Uttar Pradesh government, Azam Khan, has made his anger public and Muslim organisations in UP have said clearly that they believe that since the Samajwadi government took power eighteen months ago there have been deliberate attempts to polarize Hindus and Muslims.

This was confirmed to me by my police officer friend who said leaders of both Hindus and Muslims were responsible for the widening divisions that were now very serious. Would this help Narendra Modi build support once the election campaign begins, I asked, because it would have been impossible not to and he said it would. ‘There is not much support for the BJP,’ he said ‘but there is definitely support for Modi not just because of the polarisation but because he is seen as someone who can deliver. He is seen as a real leader.’

Lives of common man cannot be left at mercy of these dubious govts to wake up on right side of bed, more often than not, they don't.
In the meantime, keep 14 feet long spikes while riding motor bikes. Good for crowd control.

Wrong. Two people called the shots till Mulayam came in picture (rumors of him pleading for his govt. not to be dismissed ) : Azam Khan & Shivpal Yadav . Akki is a kid who happens to enjoy red beacon & helicopter ride . Luckily he is not a fukra in league of another political spoiled brat sitting in Srinagar.

Azam khan was caught off guard & so was reactive .Simply put he don't want another Azam Khan in his region/ western UP . He sees himself as first CM of Harit Pradesh should that ever happen .

Caste is a big factor among muslims of western UP.

From a lurker!
(On forum we have assumed that the worst of indian muslims & DDM has assumed worst in hindus.
A few issues come to mind before rushing to judgement : indian muslim community is cohesive . A mullah has more control than a politican who has to deal through a mullah most of the time.

Take the case of AK47 being used , it can only happen if Mullah of that particular village or area agreed & allowed . Can a politican do it on his own, possible but then it has to happen in area where he has his reliable supporters BECAUSE he cannot bring his armed men from outside without coming in notice of muslims in village . So most likely it happened via a mullah . Did he acted alone or some senior mullah from deoband or other place had a role .

If you look at news coverage on muslim politicans statements , it looked more like reactive than pro-active . Each trying to undo the other , doesn't look like a well thought out plan from a politician point of view .

So who stands to gain ?

SP ,not much it already had muslims in pocket . If its INC then its post-riot actions doesn't make much sense .On other hand BJP made substantial gains definitely . As for AK-47 , its not a common weapon among muslim community in this highly criminalized area of UP . There's someone else , what about deobandis going to meet PM , why to delhi & not luckhnow ? Again i am not saying there's no communal trouble but very likely those who did jolly canal massacre are still roaming free & mostly innocents & powerless have suffered among hindus & muslims. Among hindus , most have been SCs/jadhavs. Just a few thoughts. )
Something to think about?
Are those Mullahs acting independently or in cohort with some outside powers like Paddy wndered in his book?

^ A typical B Raman type talk ; safe and sound in 4 walls of one's house with AC chugging one can obviously take that politically correct route and say oh Media is harsh on Hindus but so is BRF on Muslims (where man ? And moreoever MSM vs BRF , seriously  ) while in the media the news moderators themselves twist facts and raise the fig of Hindu terror who on this board is allowed to post such vitriol against any community ?

Rest of what he/she has written is all figment of his wishful imagination ; anyone who owns a AK47 in India does so because he/she is trigger happy (also AK47 comes under a completely different section even a 3 star general after retiring cannot keep an automatic assault weapon he will at most have to contend with a 15 round pistol ) this is not some do-naliya which you use on weddings or one's son's naam-karan samskaar.

Places like Meerut and Muzzafarnagar are well known for illegal arms manufacturing and trading (My parents are in Doon these places are on the way from Delhi) and it is not a co-incidence that % of a certain community in these areas is above 30 ; when a sizeable section of a community is illiterate , involved in one or the other type of shady business to make a living and congregate on fridays under some psycho who is too high on his own koolaid why does it surprise anyone if it is always them who draw first blood ?

As for the Mullahs they are just a representative of their followers it is just that the most intolerant one with extremist views gets to be the mullah , it's that simple .

As long as there is this one community anywhere, there will be groups that will take advantage, draw inspiration from the book, exhort and encourage followers towards violence. The resistance to that call for violence depends upon 3 factors: 1. Fear of retaliation/ Percentage Islamists 2. Political authoritarianism 3. Humanity.

This minor group can hijack the entire community easily. Every act of transgression from the Islamist ummah will be met with violent death. SO no one is prepared to act, particularly from within the community. Thus the fence sitters within their community find it easier to target the democratic and liberal setup that allows this nonsense..till the liberal setup is in cahoots with the Islamists. Then the moderates within the Islamist community sit up and start looking ironically at ppl like NM. This is what happened in Gujarat. Pont 2 came in prominence. In Muzzafarnagar all 3 points failed and there was hardly any resistance to the nonsense over many months, so too in Kashmir. The best option obviously is to drain that ideology. But that cannot happen if we start thinking of laws like 'Hate' speech bans. We have to sully, ridicule, laugh at the Islamist doctrine everywhere in the SM and media. Bring the doctrine and it's most ardent proponents to shame and disgust. This approach must start ASAP and best is now.
