"Sole Islamic nuclear weapon armed" Islamic Republic of Pakistan, has entered into an agreement surrendering her own sovereignty. The agreement allows Iran to carry out counter terrorism operations within Pakistan.

Iranian Government controlled press agency, Press TV, quoting Iranian Member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Mohammad-Saleh Jokar:

“Upon the ratification of the security agreement between Iran and Pakistan, Iranian armed forces can legally enter Pakistani territory to eradicate terrorists and their entrance does not require the approval of the Pakistani Senate as the issue has been examined and ratified by the Pakistani government,”

Guess that since this surrender of "sole Islamic nuclear weapon armed" Pakistan’s sovereignty is to an Islamic Republic, namely Iran, all is “halal” unlike in the case surrender of sovereignty to a Kaafir nation like the USA

there is talk some other commanders are not happy with Sajna being given the top job. hopefully there will be splits in the TTP with competition on who is the most purely violent. will make them more difficult to manage for sarkar raj.

Pakis have to understand one thing. H.mullah was the architect of the Camp Chapman attack. There was absolutely no way the Americans would let him live, irrespective of what piss process or whatever else arrangement Pakis was trying to make with him. TSP is completely irrelevant to Unkil's decision.

Role of Jews in Karachi’s uplift highlighted

The Jewish community was once an integral component of Karachi and played an important role in the city’s development. If its synagogue had not been destroyed, our younger generation could have learnt a lot from their history and the region’s multicultural past.

This was said by scholar Gul Hasan Kalmatti while reading out his insightful paper at the second session of the first two-day International Conference on Karachi at the Arts Council’s auditorium on Saturday.

Mr Kalmatti’s paper was titled Karachi Ke Yahudi. He said as British rule took root in Karachi, quite a few communities (Goan Christians, Parsis and Jews) migrated to the city.

The Jewish community mostly came from Maharashtra. The first place of worship that they built in Karachi was in 1893 near Ranchhor Line (where today a building Madiha Plaza stands). A senior member of the Jewish community, Solomon David, was instrumental in setting up the synagogue called Magan Shalome. He was a respected figure who held important positions, including some in the municipality. The synagogue was the centre of the community’s socio-cultural activities. A couple of years later, two more halls were added to the building. Though some scholars suggested there was one more place of worship for Jews in the city, there were no signs of that, he said.

Mr Kalmatti, the only speaker of the day who spoke in Urdu, said in 1988 the synagogue was burnt and brought down by religious zealots. If it had remained, students of history could have learnt a great deal from it. Solomon David died in 1903 and was buried in the Mewashah graveyard. “When I went to the graveyard to film a documentary, I encountered many difficulties,” said Mr Kalmatti.

PESHAWAR : proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has ruled out the possibility of holding a dialogue with the Pakistan government, saying talks with the 'US slaves' were no longer possible, Geo News reported Sunday.

“The (Pakistan) government has given us the present of Hakimullah Mehsud’s dead body,” said Shahidullah Shahid, spokesman of the banned TTP, in a media statement which has come amid optimistic statements from the Pakistan government regarding the fate of the proposed peace talks.

Shahidullah Shaid said the selection of the TTP’s successor will be made in the next couple of days.

Earlier today he said the TTP had appointed an interim leader to head the group temporarily after the death of commander Hakimullah Mehsud in a US drone strike.

Mehsud, who had a $5 million US government price on him, was killed along with four cadres in North Waziristan tribal district near the Afghan border on Friday.

"Asmatullah Shaheen Bhittani, the head of the supreme shura, has been appointed as temporary head of the TTP," Shahid said, adding that prayers for Mehsud were still going on.

The killing of Mehsud sparked a furious reaction from the Pakistani government, which accused Washington of sabotaging fledgling efforts towards peace negotiations with the Taliban.

Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar said a group of clerics had been ready to go and meet the TTP to initiate talks, which have been backed by all major political parties, when the drone struck.

"We were waiting for a meeting, while the Pakistan army and government was sitting with the US finalising deals to sell us."

"Time will tell whether we take revenge of his martyrdom or not," he said. In the past, the TTP has responded to its leaders being killed with deadly violence.

Looks more and more to moi that the story about sajna was a plant - rather than an actual coup occuring in TTP council. TTP takes time to elect its new leaders - i don't see why it has to be different this time.

Security forces discover jannat in South Waziristan

PESHAWAR: Security forces on Friday discovered jannat (heaven) in South Waziristan Agency, with which terrorists used to brainwash suicide bombers. According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), a team of journalists visited the jannat at Nawaz Kot area of the agency. The ‘heaven’ consisted of four rooms. Each room contains beautiful paintings of running canals of milk and honey surrounded by hoors (maidens of paradise). Conducting Officer Major Saleem said Taliban clerics showed the jannat to the would-be suicide bombers to convince them that once they blew themselves up they would enjoy a status equivalent to that of the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He said they were also told that they would live forever in the company of beautiful hoors. He said security forces had also seized hate literature, CDs, hashish and other drugs from the site. Add this BS with so called liberal Paki,Toad KamranShafi in Tribune threatning India with the bravado of Millions of armed Inbred Paki. This is the first real sign of panick and dawn of reality that Indians are not holding ther breath waiting for Poaq to be friendly neighbor. Lilo, I agree. The fractious TTP with its clannish divisions etc is prone to competition for the top post, as we witnessed after Baitullah Mehsud's death, for example. But, as it happened at that time too, some of the stories were plants by the TSPA. This is the best time for the TSPA to sow discord amongst the TTP fractions and generally show them up in bad light for the rest of Pakistan as a rag-tag setup. We have to wait for clarity to happen in a few weeks' time. The shura would be even afraid to meet now for fear of an attack. But, one thing is for sure. TSPA will have it from them. One consolation for TSPA is that after Qari-the-Suicide-Bomber-Ustaad's death, the intensity and effectiveness of that mode of attack has come down drastically. Nevertheless, TSPA cannot escape.

UK's Channel 4 aired this on the news. They blamed fighters from "Afghanistan, Pakistan & India " for the re-appearance of Polio in Syria.

OT but still : India is just 2 months away from being declared Polio-free.

Yes, come January, we shall be so declared. However, there are many districts in India which have already been polio free for 15 years or more. We do not want all that monumental effort to go waste through a relaxed-visa regime to terrorist Pakistanis as the current government was planning to do. The unfortunate events at the border where lives of some of our soldiers were lost, fortuitously put paid to such a reckless diplomacy. May their sacrifice not go a waste.

Taliban threaten to target PML-N leadership, Sharif blames US

ISLAMABAD : Blaming the Pakistan government for the killing of its chief Hakimullah Mehsud, Taliban have warned that it "will soon start targeting" the ruling PML-N leadership for its alleged support to the US in the region.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan also announced that it would not hold any peace talks with the Nawaz Sharif government and threatened to avenge the killing of Hakimullah in a CIA-operated drone strike.

Geo News quoted an unnamed senior militant commander operating in Afghanistan as saying that they would soon start targeting the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership for its alleged support to the US in the region.

TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said the group's leadership knew that the government was not sincere in peace talks but had decided to hold negotiations "for the sake of the Pakistani people".

"We did not want innocent Pakistani people to suffer any more and therefore decided to hold negotiations with the government. But the government, by helping the US in the killing of Hakimullah Mehsud, proved that there was zero sincerity in the mind of the rulers. It was neither sincere nor serious in peace negotiations," the Taliban spokesman was quoted as saying by the report.

He warned the government would have to pay the price for, what he termed playing a double game with the TTP.

Shahidullah said Hakimullah's killing was a "huge loss" to the Taliban, adding they would always feel his absence.

"We are passing through a difficult phase and are still in the state of mourning. And that's the reason we could not sit to choose his successor," he remarked.

He said the TTP Shura would hold its meeting within the next few days and would choose the next Taliban leader.

When told about reports that the Shura had held its meeting in North Waziristan but could not develop consensus over one name, the Taliban spokesman said it was not true.

He said all the Shura members had been informed about the meeting and they would soon gather at a safe place to choose Hakimullah's successor.

US drone attacks violate Pakistan's sovereignty, PM Sharif says

The US drone campaign violates the sovereignty of Pakistan, which will not allow its national security policies to be determined by foreign powers, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said today.

In his first public remarks after the killing of Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud in a US drone attack on Friday, Sharif said the days when security policies were decided through "telephone calls from abroad" are over.

Without referring to the killing of the Taliban chief, Sharif said US drone strikes violate Pakistan?s sovereignty and international laws and are counter-productive to efforts to bring peace and stability to the country and the region.

"Gone are the days when our national security policies were determined through telephone calls from abroad.

We now have a democratically elected government, chosen by the people of Pakistan," he said in his address at a field exercise by the army in Punjab province.

"Pakistan is faced with serious challenges both within the country and at international level. But there is hope, a hope to rise through and meet these challenges," he told a gathering that included top military officers and army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has blamed the US for deliberately sabotaging proposed peace talks with the Taliban by killing Mehsud. The government had begun contacts with the militants and a team of representatives was scheduled to meet the Taliban just before Mehsud was killed.

Sharif said his government is determined to end bloodshed and violence "but it cannot be done over-night, nor can it be done by unleashing senseless force against our citizens, without first making every effort to bring the misguided and confused elements of society back to the mainstream".

The government has to ensure that political parties, the military and civil society are on the same page to create an environment necessary to tackle this problem, he said.

This bit of news came last Thursday ( IIRC) on CH4. I clearly remember because :
a) I was surprised that CH4 mentioned India &
b) This polio thing & visas have been discussed in this thread before.

So I went to http://www.polioeradication.org/ and checked the news section. No mention was made of the source of the virus but just a confirmation of an outbreak. I wanted to post this here Thursday itself but I forgot.I clearly remember "Afghanistan, Pakistan & India" being mentioned.
Part of this interview appeared in the CH4 news report.

Was it mentioned on air? Was the original statement in quotes or something somewhere? Trying to figure out whether Channel 4 made that "India" part up... for I doubt the Syrian government would have mentioned it.

I'm referring specifically to the "polio" statement on Channel 4 in the UK. They apparently mentioned "Afghanistan, Pakistan & India" - I'm wondering if the Syrians included "India" there, or it was just some Paki in Channel 4 sticking one to us....

TSP Fin Min says the world is ready to help TSP in its energy crisis - Dawn

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar told President Mamnoon Hussain on Sunday the international community was ready to help Pakistan tackle its energy crisis.

The minister informed the president that during his recent visit to Washington to attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, he met deputy prime minister of Japan, finance ministers of Afghanistan, Iran, Qatar and the UK on the sidelines and discussed with them matters of bilateral economic cooperation.

He informed the president that economic measures taken by the government had been appreciated by the international community which had once again started looking towards Pakistan as a destination for Foreign Direct Investment.

Senator Dar also apprised President Hussain about his meetings with international financial institutions, banks, rating agencies, heads of OPIC, USAID, IFC and senior officials of the IMF and World Bank.

“International financial institutions are now favourably inclined to invest in Pakistan in line with priorities set by the government,” the finance minister said.

He informed the president that he had held in-depth discussions with them to attract investment in the energy sector particularly to commence work on the Dasu Hydropower Project and Diamer Bhasha dam.
