For Pakistan’s Dalit Christians, embracing Islam is an escape from stigma
Yousuf converted because he was dalit whereas Kaneria didnt cause he is upper caste hindu , is the gist of his logic.
Worth a read. It just shows how the mind of a paki works.Yousuf a dalit? Though Christians, his forefathers belonged to the sweeper caste and converted to Christianity in search of dignity and equality, a quest that sometimes failed to liberate them from performing the menial tasks linked to their caste. Yousuf’s father was a sweeper at a railway station and he was himself an apprentice tailor until, in a twist of fate, he was plucked out of obscurity to play in a local league by a team short of a player. He then burst upon Pakistan cricket, amassing runs as well as wealth. Suddenly rich, Yousuf became a benefactor of his community and gained, as Shaharyar Khan says, “the immense respect of the Catholic Church.” Despite all this, he was sometimes heckled, as Khan records in his book. Even today Pakistan’s three million Christians, barring those who are descendants of Goans settled mainly in Karachi, are poor workers employed in menial tasks or on farms owned by Muslim landlords. Providing a historical perspective, Khan writes, “Many such persons (Christians) adopted Muslim names to escape the daily derision, wore Muslim dress but remained Christians. Others converted to Islam, losing the sympathy and protection of the Christian Church and community without gaining a commensurate advantage with the Muslims.”
Yousuf converted because he was dalit whereas Kaneria didnt cause he is upper caste hindu , is the gist of his logic.

Indian Army chief's statement provocative : Pakistan
In a clear warning to Pakistan, General Bikram Singh said on Monday any militant who crosses the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir would be fired at.
Pakistan's Inter-Service Public Relations ( ISPR) said in a press release later that it is contrary to the facts on ground.
The Pakistan Army respects the ceasefire agreement in letter and spirit, it quoted a Pakistan military's spokesperson as saying.
After the meeting between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) Dec 24, 2013, the situation along the LoC has improved considerably. Such accusation and provocative statements are regrettable and counter-productive, the spokesperson added.
The Indian Army chief in his statement Monday also said the army needed to continue guarding the troubled northern state "under the present circumstances".
"We will fire at any militant trying to enter through the LoC," Gen. Bikram Singh said at the annual press conference ahead of Army Day Jan 15.
His comments came as reports in the Pakistani media blamed India for violating the ceasefire and firing at a civilian near the LoC.
Cheers

Question to the gurus. I am the last person to be termed a WKK, but I find the timing of General BS's taunt to TSP a bit surprising. And the reason being that let alone punishing TSP, in the past, India was somewhat coy about about something as benign as even honoring the Kargil martyrs for fear of offending TSP (I know it makes one throw up) and "vitiating the atmosphere" while piss process is on. By that yardstick, currently, temperatures along the LoC have reduced somewhat, there have been no daily exchanges of fire or even verbal volleys between TSP and India, and so what prompted BS to suddenly issue this statement which sure dents TSP's H&D a tad.
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan - Jan 04, 2014
BS is trying to prop up MMS whose wifey is friend to his wifey. A demonstrable Act should be punished by another act and not by verbal diarrhea.
Re: Terrorist Islamic Republic of Pakistan - Jan 04, 2014
My guess is that there is intelligence input that TSP is in a deja vu mood and is preparing to launch another insurgency with the jihadis as it happened in 1979. I am sure that one carrot that TSP would dangle in front of TTP in the on-going 'peace talks' is the jihad in Kashmir and India. That would save Pakistan and engage the soon-to-be-jobless mujahids safely in India. It would also bottle up India within its borders rather than engaging in Afghanistan and beyond.CRamS wrote: . . . and so what prompted BS to suddenly issue this statement which sure dents TSP's H&D a tad.

“Granting MFN status to India is not part of agenda of the talks as both sides will hold negotiations on giving non-discriminatory access (NDA) to the markets of two countries,” said Minister of State for Commerce and Textile Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan while talking to The Nation on Monday. The title of the talks will be “meeting for review of previous round of setting of fresh timelines”.It is to note here that India’s trade with Bangladesh, for example, has more than doubled to $5.8bn since 2010. Similarly, its trade with Nepal has surged from $1.9b to $3.6bn and with Sri Lanka from $2.5bn to $4.6bn. Pakistan, on the other hand, has remained far behind to boost its trade significantly with the Saarc member countries. Its trade with Nepal is negligible and with Bangladesh $650mn and with Sri Lank $384mn.
And can India fill in those products and help TSP become free from South Asian trade? That way they can truly be part of Muddle East as they fondly hope to become the Farce of Islam.

Our MFN status to them is only in name and has been reciprocally curtailed to the same level of trade status as currently "extended" to us by the pakis. Nevertheless, officially, we have extended MFN status (unilaterally!!). This is mandatory requirement by WTO guidelines

( Data about India in the link)A report placed Pakistan at the top of a list of 198 countries most suffering from social hostilities involving religion, by the end of 2012.The Pew Research Center’s report issued two indices, based on statistics from the years 2007-2012:
1) The Government Restrictions Index (GRI), which measures government laws, policies and actions that restrict religious beliefs and practices.
2) The Social Hostilities Index (SHI), which measures acts of religious hostility by private individuals, organizations or groups in society.
The results show that “Pakistan had the highest level of social hostilities involving religion, and Egypt had the highest level of government restrictions on religion.”Neighbours Afghanistan and India were also up there with Pakistan in the SHI index.Worldwide, except for the Americas, “the share of countries with a high or very high level of social hostilities involving religion reached a six-year peak in 2012,” while ”the share of countries with a high or very high level of government restrictions on religion stayed roughly the same in the latest year studied.”Pakistan topped the list for most religious hostilities while showing a ‘very high’ range of scores in the other index too.

The armed forces personnel, trained to deal with situations like these, took no time to tame the flames and stop the fire from spreading further. The former military ruler is under trial for treason over his imposition of emergency rule in 2007, charges he has dismissed as politically motivated. .He is the first general to face trial for treason in the country's history. Pakistan's import list from India may triple soon
While neighbouring Pakistan is still to concede to India’s demand for grant of the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status, it is likely to substantially increase the list of import items to be traded from India via Attari-Wagah border in Punjab.
Pakistan permits India to export only 137 commodities. Requesting anonymity, senior officials in the customs department told Deccan Herald Tuesday that Pakistan may increase its list of import items up to 500 this week. While Pakistan has a restricted list of items to be imported through the route, there is no restriction on traders from Pakistan to export goods to India.

Mr Musharraf is under house arrest. His wife, who is in Dubai, has asked that he be allowed to leave Pakistan to receive medical treatment, and increasingly, this appears the most likely course of action.
It’s a very Pakistani solution, one from which both sides will seek to claim a measure of honour.
Mr Musharraf disappears, never to return again, and the problem of his trial - and his treason - goes away.

Postcard from... Delhi: Do classic cars hold the key to India-Pakistan relations?
If all goes to plan – and that remains if – up to 100 members intend to drive a convoy of 40 classic cars and 10 motorbikes across the Pakistan border. On the other side they will be met by 30 classic cars owned by Pakistani enthusiasts who will escort the Indian drivers to the city of Lahore. They’ve named the trip Wheels for Peace.
“My family were originally from Peshawar,” says Mr Marwah, 55, who owns a film and television studio on the edge of Delhi. “But this will be my first trip to Pakistan.”
The car enthusiasts are hoping their trip will be a lot of fun. But there is more to it than that.
The members, who include historians, lawyers, tycoons, writers and other representatives of India’s elite, believe that so-called people-to-people contact can work where government-to-government may not. For all the antipathy levelled at each other by the governments of the two countries, it is rare to hear an Indian criticise a Pakistani individual, or vice versa.
The members point out that a former Pakistan High Commissioner to Delhi, who is also a car enthusiast, used to regularly partake of the club’s events as a guest.

Pakistani MP arrested after five people found living chained up in DUNGEON at his home
Cruelty: Abdul Rehman Khetran is accused of kidnapping and imprisoning a woman and five men in a dungeon
GettyA local MP in Pakistan has been arrested for running a private dungeon at his home after five people were found chained up.
Some of the captives had been held in Abdul Rehman Khetran's cellar for several years.
The dungeon only came to light after private guards working for the lawmaker attacked police at a checkpoint at the weekend, beating them up and stealing their weapons.
Police then raided the lawmaker's fortified home in lawless Baluchistan province, freed the prisoners, including one woman, and arrested Khetran, his son and six private guards.
Barkhan district police chief Abdul Ghafoor Marri said the prisoners had been mistreated, and a truck packed with ammunition and weapons had also been found.
But Khetran claimed the arrests were politically motivated.
The mineral-rich western region of Baluchistan is deeply impoverished and a haven for smugglers, drug lords, Taliban insurgents and separatist rebels.
