So the head of our home ministry shields businessman with close links to terrorists and other underworld groups. No wonder India is being overrun with jihadis and other anti national elements. I have no doubt that RK Singh and Modi are coordinating their actions. We are completely compromised.

I am now suspicious of the TMC of Mamatadidi that when it comes to the crunch she may not support Modiji. I was always suspicious given all the pappi-jhappi between Mamata and firstly Hillary Clinton and more recently David Cameron. Tell me when did foreign leaders start meeting our Chief Ministers. As more proof it appears that TMC has decided to send Indira Jaisingh to the Rajya Sabha on its ticket. Note that Indira Jaisingh is the person who is acting at the hatchetman attacking the Supreme Court judges. Also as was reported earlier she too is a recipient, perhaps the single largest, of Ford Foundation grants. So it appears that some of the foreign hands' agents are being shelved for use at a later date.

While Shashi Tharoor's marital problems are his to sort out, the charge that his wife makes that the "woh' is an Pakistani ISI agent makes one wonder if IB has been told to stand down?
The exfiltration of the Richards family to US, the ISI agent charges with woamn consorting with A Central Minister all ae indications of breakdown of internal security. Either the IB is not doing its job or has been told to stand down.

ramana ji,
Its a brinkmanship game, with fears of rats abandoning the ship thinking it might sink. Use my old model of the state and purpose of how modern intel on the subcontinent was shaped up - deliberately. Things are done in a way that would always keep all the major countries in the subcontinental framework "open" to manipulation. Either info will come out at the "right" moment, or there will be public outrages that will then force the govs and society to take up positions that would help the long term objectives of the handlers.

Whoever wants to restart the thing needs to replace the pre-existing setup - and personnel. From scratch.

3 dead in communal clash, Rajasthan village looks for answers
It was the day of Makar Sankranti and Id Milad-un-Nabi. After celebrating during the day, the residents of Kotadi village in Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan were just turning in for the night when communal clashes broke out, leaving three dead and six injured. Two days later, the village remains under curfew even as additional security forces have been deployed in the area.

According to reports, the violence began after a group of Muslim youths made some objectional comments about some young RSS workers returning from a meeting in a nearby village at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday.

“Both the groups gathered support from their respective communities and clashed at the local bus stand. Members from the minority community opened fire, injuring some Hindus
. The Hindus too brought out their firearms and set ablaze several houses and shops belonging to the minority community
But Ram Lal, a member of the Gaeri community, said, “We are poor people. We work in our fields, eat our roti and go to sleep. These Pathans own illegal firearms and are engaged in smuggling. They are responsible for creating a hostile environment in the village.
The affected areas are part of the opium plantation belt and instances of illegal use of firearms have been reported earlier.

Now Sunandaji is found dead alone in a hotel room and Delhi Police rushes to say its suicide.

I think NSA Menon needs to deeply introspect why is he in that position?

Why is Greenpeace showing extra attention on Danish woman rape and wanting Kejriwal to implement his agenda? Was this some sort of trailer to Kejriwal? Note that Kejriwal has since then been asking for moving DP to under Delhi state administration. What games are being played? Specifically how is Modiji's security being done?

Same hotel room murder as Bob Woolmer's. Hopefully these people and others should realize that if they want to expose betting or any other activity in cricket, please do not give any signals before hand by tweeting shady journalists or give any inkling about their impending announcements. Let them give a press conference about their next book and then insert this topic in between the interaction. Also move away from hotel rooms to someplace safe beforehand.

Sunanda Pushkar: A case of unnatural, sudden death, AIIMS doctors say
NEW DELHI: Sunanda Pushkar, who died on Friday night, had "injury marks" on her body and it is a "case of unnatural, sudden death", one of the doctors who conducted the autopsy said.

"On postmortem examination we can say that it is a case of unnatural sudden death. There were certain injury marks on the body but we can't divulge details at this point," said Sudhir Kumar Gupta, head of forensic sciences department at AIIMS, said.

"We will conclude our report and opinion in a couple of days," Gupta added.

Sunanda did not have serious health problems: Doctors
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A complete medical checkup conducted earlier this week on Sunanda Pushkar, who was found dead in a Delhi hotel on Friday night, showed that she was not suffering from any serious health problem, doctors at a super-speciality hospital here said on Saturday.

A team of doctors, who analyzed the results of a series of tests she underwent at the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) hospital here, said the results did not show that she suffered from any serious illnesses.

"We cannot find that she had been suffering from any serious health problems....Like any other person these days, she had come for a complete check up...She had been given only simple medicines," eminent cardiologist Dr G Vijayaraghavan, who headed the team of doctors, told reporters after a meeting of the medical board at KIMS here.

The board met and reviewed the test results following the death of Sunanda, wife of Union minister Shashi Tharoor.

Dr Vijayaraghavan said he could not divulge details of the check up and the results as that would involve the risk of encroaching upon the privacy of the patient. Sunanda was admitted in the hospital on January 12 and discharged on January 14. Her husband was also with her. Doctors and other hospital staff who met her said she appeared "comfortable" during her stay in the hospital.

One wonders what the security establishment is doing/were doing when Kejriwal and his friends are hell bent on disrupting the Republic Day parade. The choice is clear. Will the GOI permit a confrontation between the DP and AAP or wait for the larger confrontation later in the week between the armed forces and AAP? Prima facie it appears that AAP wants a confrontation with the armed forces which will permanently destroy the emotional linkage between aam admi and the armed forces. This is a totally no no scenario and should be avoided at all costs.

Wrong assumptions. This tactic will be one of the miscalculations of AAP and their external handlers.
The ones who'll agree to a confrontation with the forces are that have no emotional connect, respect and pride for the forces to begin with. We should admit that there are many of them in the metros.
If these people come out of closet, much better. The real aam aadmi will see their true face out in open. The NCR region sends a large bulk of men to armed forces and many of them are serving the forces over many generations. They will not be fooled, nor they will forget such a spectacle.

This is the ultimate plan of Congress. AAP naxalites will swamp the capital and start an Indian Spring. They will get 1-2 months of coverage and black out every other political foe especially Modi. Gandhis will be out of the country and leave it to MMS to take the hit. He will step down, elections will be suspended until a jan lokpal is constituted and corrupt (NDA leaders including Modi) are dealt with. Sonia neutralizes all her foes in Congress and NDA and she gets a new puppet to mess around with.

Levy, who believes Mumbai saved itself because “ordinary people acted in extraordinary ways”, says the question to ask is why Indian intelligence agencies failed to act upon the inputs they had received before the attacks.
Levy, who has been visiting India over the past 20 years, also believes the country’s “political culture cripples the intelligence agencies”.

if Levy is the author of the book about siege of the Taj it is a fairly unimpressive piece of work imo. skimmed it at the airport this week. focusses mostly on the people trapped inside and very little on the fighting and none perhaps on the events that made it possible/political inaction.

sounds to me like another william dalrymple.

there are 'agencies' which supply BD labour to kodagu tea and coffee estates. I was told this myself by a planter whose homestay we visited in madikeri. he says local labour is very hard to find esp if there is a good monsoon because they would be working their own farms in the plains.

I saw BD labour gangs in Bhutan last month. Don't know how they got there. Seems mostly masons and carpenters.

And yes also in the numerous numbers in tea estates when I drove down to Bagdogra via Phuentsholing check point.

Another observations is that some of these tea estates also seem to have tribals from Jharkhand all recently converted, as I could deduce from makeshift churches near their living quarters. Not just Mullahs, EJs also seem to running a good show.

Reserve Bank to withdraw all pre-2005 currency notes from circulation
MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank on Wednesday decided to withdraw all currency notes issued prior to 2005, including Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations, after March 31 in a move apparently aimed at curbing black money and fake currencies.

"After March 31, 2014, it (RBI) will completely withdraw from circulation all bank notes issued prior to 2005. From April 1, 2014, the public will be required to approach banks for exchanging these notes," the RBI said in a statement.
BUT

Secret Indian currency template compromised: CBI
NEW DELHI: The secret template India uses to print currency notes has been "compromised" and that is possibly why fake but real-looking Indian currency notes are being pumped in to subvert the country's economy, says the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The CBI, the nodal agency for checking fake notes, has now formed a special team comprising its sleuths and officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory to find out how and at what level the design got "compromised".

"Our investigations have revealed that the 2005 secret security template which was introduced as part of the new design adopted then has been compromised," CBI Director Ashwini Kumar said.

Asked, if the country was still using the security template, he said, "yes".
If 2005 template is compromised, then why pre-2005 notes are being recalled? One of the biggest scam happening right in front of our eyes.

They can try screwing up the economy as much as they want. A few simple reforms will fix it up in no time. Good thing is people aren't too dependent on the gov for most things. So they'll just wait it out and spring into action when things get going.

Assault on India by a Chief Minister

http://www.canarytrap.in/2014/01/25/ass ... -minister/
The recent dharna at the venue of the Republic Day Parade was a perfect lesson as to how external security and internal security conflate with politics. When the politics of the day assaults on the integrity of India, it is the Constitution which comes to the rescue of the State. Perniciously, this time the assault was not from extra-constitutional forces, but the elected government in Delhi. The assault was spearheaded by the Chief Minister, who continued to spit venom on the State.

His venom was unforgivingly directed at the Republic Day, which celebrates the very Constitution that made him the Chief Minister. The Republic Day Parade draws men and women, boys and girls from all parts of India. It is a perfect symbol of national integration, sovereignty and aspirations of India. Young boys and girls of the NCC wake up at 4 O’clock in the morning in the Delhi cold to rehearse for the Parade. Those children who win the bravery awards come with their parents to the Capital, full of pride and enthusiasm. The young girls’ band of Birla Public School is a regular feature. Widows receive gallantry awards on behalf of their martyred husbands and children. It is these martyrs, because of whom we live in security, the same security without which Mr. Kejriwal cannot carry out his dharnas.

If Mr. Kejriwal really understood the élan and pride that the participants evince in the Republic Day Parade, he would have probably not decried it in the manner in which the Maoists, the insurgents and separatists do. This author while writing a book on Maoism, interacted with the District Magistrate of Gaya district in Bihar, the DM narrated an incident wherein the Maoists had issued a diktat that black flags will be hoisted on the Independence Day in all schools in the area under their terror. In one of these schools, one eight year old girl could not bear the sight of a black flag being unfurled. She in a patriotic rage brought the black flag down, tore it, and hoisted the national flag. The girl and her family were subsequently compelled to relocate themselves. Is it surprising that the core of the ‘Aam Aadmi Party’ comprises over-ground Maoists, Maoist sympathizers and ‘collapsed ultra-leftists’?

A perusal of the documents issued by the Central Committee of the Maoists in India makes it evident that their final objective is to capture the Indian State. In the bid to capture the State the Maoists have divided their push for taking over the State into three broad phases, i.e. Phase-1 (strategic defence): capture of rural areas; Phase-2 (strategic stalemate): characterized by balance between security forces and Maoists armed strength; and Phase-3 (strategic initiative): capture of the epicenter of power. In this endeavor they elicit the support of all anti-state forces. Therefore, Prashant Bhushan’s advocacy for separatists and referendum on the deployment of State forces in Maoist affected areas should be seen in this backdrop. Also Mr. Kejriwal’s comments on Batla House encounter and his refusal to comment on Pakistan amounts to pandering to jihadi forces and Pakistan. One does not call a press conference to give merely inane remarks on issues of such vital security interests. The design is therefore obvious.

The Chief Minister could have gained equal amount of media traction, had he chosen to abide by the order of carrying out his dharna at Jantar Mantar. The purpose, however was sinister. It was to pose a threat to the nerve center of India, i.e. the South Block, North Block, Parliament and Rastrapati Bhawan complex. It is for this reason that he duped the authorities by first stating that only he and his cabinet colleagues would form part of the dharna. Once he established himself he gave a call to cadres from all parts of the country to converge on the nerve center of India. What saved the situation was the insipid heed to his call and the vigilance of Delhi Police.

The objective to capture the nerve center was betrayed by the very language of the Chief Minister. He went to the extent of saying that it was not for the Union Home Minister to decide whether he as Chief Minister will sit on dharna, instead it is he, who would decide where the Home Minister of India should have his office. Significantly, the target was not Mr Shinde, but the institution of Home Minister. He could have well issued the same threat to the Supreme Court of India?

All through the ‘Aam Aadmi’ leader emphasized on his status as Chief Minister and his right to dharna, anywhere and everywhere in Delhi, as ‘real democracy’. The Chief Minister should reflect on the outcome, if another group of ‘aam aadmi’ opposed to him occupy the same venue and contest his dharna in the same democratic refrain.Apart from other pressing considerations, it is to guard against such imponderables of rogue Chief Minister that the Delhi Police cannot be placed under Delhi Government. Imagine what would have been Mr Kejriwal’s response when information was given about presence of terrorists in Batla House? He would have probably refused to order the Delhi Police to take action. It must be underscored that for most federal security and intelligence agencies located in the Capital, the Delhi Police is the armed executive force in support. A rogue Chief Minister with Delhi Police under him can even order the arrest of the Home Minister, an institution for which Mr Kejriwal showed complete disdain and disregard.

The plan of dharna was therefore well planned and calculated. It was a trial assault on India’s nerve center. What saved India from this assault was the Constitutional safeguards.

Democracy and Constitutional culture evolves. Every country passes through its period of trials and tribulations, hits and misses in the evolution of political culture and awareness. India is no exception. Even UK, the mother of Westminster democracy, has one of the most abnormal coalition government of Conservatives and Liberals, which some may say is travesty of democracy.

Mr Kejriwal displayed total hatred for national symbols and institutions. He has no business to abuse the same very system that subsidized his education and allowed him ‘study leave’ at Aam Aadmi (taxpayer’s) expense, which later had to be returned under legal threat.

Mr Kejriwal also said that from now onwards the Republic Day will be in his style. He did not have the intellectual capacity to appreciate that the Prime Minister of Japan was not coming as a Chief Guest to watch his style of Republic Day. I can bet that none repeat none in Mr Kejriwal’s cabinet knows the significance of emerging geopolitical equation between India and Japan.

The country cannot be hostage to such vicious plots by any Chief Minister in the garb of democracy. India cannot permit externally funded anti-national outfits to dismantle the constitutional framework, rather the country itself by such sophisticated plots.

Very good find Nawabs.
Shades of colour revolutions, or even more sinister a putch along the lines of Valkyries. I wonder what shade of colour the aap has in mind. Also shades of deja vu, as this present period is very reminiscent of the run-up to the 2004 election when there was a coalescence of Maoist, leftists, NGOs, congress, jihadis all funded from afar. This time the aap has been bestowed the mantle of congress from their common benefactors

Posthumous Ashok Chakra to Andhra's anti-Naxal unit cop
Babu played a key role in killing nine Maoists and injuring several others.

On April 16 last year, about 70 Maoists carried out IED blasts near Andhra-Chhattisgarh border and fired indiscriminately on the Greyhounds unit led by Babu. Babu and his unit charged towards the Maoists, killing nine of them.

The next day, the commandos were being evacuated by helicopters. When, 19 commandos were to be picked up for the last sortie of evacuation, about 60-70 Maoists attacked the helicopter. While 14 commandos boarded the helicopter, 4 commandos along with Babu began retaliatory firing, according to the statement.

After the helicopter left, the Maoists began encircling the commandos. Babu then urged the 4 other commandos to retreat to a direction while holding the nearly 200 Maoists single-handedly until the others reached a safe spot. He died in the process, it said.

Accepting the award, Babu's emotionally overwhelmed father acknowledged the crowd with folded hands.
Did not find a good thread to ask this question so posting here. Does anybody know how to get in touch with his family? I tried a search but it is difficult to find this information. Thanks in advance.
