Ah, Yanam , an enclave in east Godavari district, right in the heart of Coastal Andhra is French speaking of course! :(( :((

It would have been better to have created Indian states by drawing straight lines on the map, like in the US, so all this chest beating about language would have stopped.
Truth be told , Nehru resisted the best he could, his hands were forced by the death of Potti Sriramulu, who fasted to death demanding Andhra be created as a linguistic state. That really opened the way for the *MKs and their chauvinist mobilization in TN

Yanam is a small village and kept separately for a purpose. It sere as a tax heaven for the local people and everybody is happy for being a drinking hole during prohibition. No one is getting kick-out from there just they may be from Hyderabad city.

What concerns me is that if this can happen to A.P , which had so much going for it in terms of MPs and money power , just imagine how GOI will treat less politically important states .

I guess the solution is to have two or more strong regional parties in the state which are aligned to the two national fronts (NDA and UPA) , like Maharastra .

RPI is asking for Vidharbha in MH which BJP also supports. Siva Sena is only party opposing the demand now. Wait for a year are so you will have a dozen new states in the nation.

The game is still on as for as AP goes

Folks - you are all probably aware of Chinmay Krovvidi - a psephologist, who is a BJP member and an absolute Telangana fanatic. He keeps tweeting BJP leaders about how BJP can win many seats in Telangana, if it screws SA brutally. This kind of idiotic thinking needs to be countered - I hope none of the BJP leaders are being influenced by this, but then, one never knows. It cannot harm to counter this guy. I thought it would be a good idea to collate the different surveys on Telangana, and then add our knowledge on the different seats, and leave it to people to judge how much chance the BJP alone has in T. If any of you are interested, please let me know here.

The major Seema Andhra Kangress leaders will not leave Kangress or will not criticize the actions of Sonia Gandhi because of various reasons:

1. Chiranjeevi: Has massive assets and holdings in telanagana (HYD) so will not go against Congress, as if he does, chances that he will lose his assets during the up coming Congress-TRS rule in Telangana

2. Botsa: A liquor baron and land lord with holdings in Hyd area, and also a greedy snake of a politician with loyal support base, will be a loyal doggie to mommie sonia in immediate future.

Similarly a lot of Seema Andhra leaders have massive assets in Hyd region and will not revolt or will risk losing properties. Same also goes for all telugu cinema families

People can't do much except protesting with the picture of local leaders who betrayed Andhra. At the Center Congress stabbed from the front, BJP from the back.

Hyderabad as capital for Telangana was VOTED DOWN. meaning: Hyderabad will not be under Telangana jurisdiction.

there is no need for the dramatic chippa comments. my guess is either Hyd will become a UT without revenue sharing (in which case, T and SA both get screwed). or more likely is Hyd becomes UT with revenue sharing for 20 years or something. which pretty much brings the SA account to surplus again.

^^^^Sigh, here we go again.

What about YSR and his shehzaada, which side did they did they stab from. Looking at the line of leaders coming from SA - YSR, CBN, Chiranjeevi...after a line of such venal leaders at the top, something like this was bound to happen.

Other than NTR, who at least gave lip sympathy to Telangana but did otherwise in action, no leader from SA reached out to Telangana to bridge the divide. It was for the SA leadership to bridge the gap with Telangana but they did nothing over the years.

Looking at the muslim narrative leading to partition of Punjab in 1947,There are parallels between behaviour of Hindus (supposing eating from separate dishes, dominating moneylending to muslim farmers in west punjab etc.)and the SA moneybags in Hyderabad. I am not saying these are facts but the narratives appear to have parallels.

SA politicos could have done more to bridge the divide and avert the bifurcation.

cannot include CBN with YSR and Chiranjeevi. Chiranjeevi was an out and out incompetent nincompoop who turned out to be a big dud.

YSR was a true Rakshasa with good Maya-astras to delude the people.

CBN became complacent and arrogant in 2nd term. but even after that, it was the worst drought in decades that totally uprooted TDP in 2004. after that debacle, he's lost touch with the pulse.

The sad truth about AP politics is that it is caste based. Years ago when I told AP people that YSR is a Christian they told me that he is a Reddy. To be fair most politics in India is caste based, but people of AP refused to see beyond their nose. Again that's not to say that AP should have been split. My personal feeling is that it shouldn't have been. Now the Reddy's have been shafted in both SA and T. The Kammas are overall gainers in the grand scheme of things, atleast in SA. So much for the Reddy's being the pallbearers of the INC in AP since independence.

could someone please explain what they realistically expected bjp/modi to do ?
only thing I can come up with is they could have abstained from voting by saying 'while are not necessarily against split we oppose it in the current form'. but even then the bill would have been passed.
Can only speak for myself but I'm not blaming Modi for the split only for lack of leadership in this issue. He's the public face of the BJP in the 2014 LS elections and to my mind this LS fiasco on Telangana creation reflects on him. I would have expected him to say that while BJP is all for Telangana (as they believe in smaller states), the split will not be supported without adequately addressing the concerns of the rest of AP. Push for amendments and agree to support only if they are accepted. Even if bill is passed without their support that shows statesmanship in not budging from their principle of justice for all. What matters is perception, helping the Congress to pass the bill after blacking out LS TV gives rise to the suspicion that they had something to hide. Also gleefully crowing about remember me when its time to vote is in bad taste - it would appear to the rest of AP folks that all the BJP cares about is LS seats in Telangana, rest of AP be damned. I completely do not agree with folks who want the BJP to abandon AP just because they voted for the Congress and are getting EJfied. That is equal to saying that abandon the folks from Kerala/WB because, hey, they voted for the Commies or abandon the NE folks because many are separatist or abandon folks from TN because many might support the LTTE. Doesn't work that way and if that is the attitude be prepared to have no relevance is a huge part of India (Kerala, TN, AP, NE, WB, etc.) - 100+ LS seats.

Lets see how many LS seats they get in Telangana and how many in the rest of AP in LS 2014. Or how many their allies get if they get any allies.

Is the Bhadrachalam division also going to Telangana? This was historically part of East Godavari dist(SA) but was only included in Khamman dist (T) for administrative ease. What is the justification given to hand it over to T now?

Krishna dt was part of Nizam before it was sold to British. That is why you still see a place in Vijayawada called as Nizam gate. Folks (my ancestors) first has to go there to get Visa to visit their relatives in Hyderabad and beyond. My mom side grandfather's cousins etc used to tell stories proudly how there served the army with food etc., when the landed there to launch attack on Nizam. Good that no one is alive of that era.

Wrong
It was part of the Outb Shahi kingdom which stretched all the way to the Orissa border. The Nizams came much later when Bhadrachalam was no longer a part of the kingdom. It was later part of the Madras Presidency.

Ahhh - Operation Polo. The operations began simultaneously from Vijayawada and Solapur, IIRC. The Indian army spent all that blood and treasure to rescue the people from the Nizam and his Razakars, and now the Nizam makes a comeback as the Patron Saint of Telangana. The ironies of life.

Our of curiosity, wasn't Rajamahendry also part of Northern Circars handed over to the British?

I do not think so. In whole South India, Hindus of Telanganites can match with Razaakars in brutality. Go to any Hyderabad area, the Hindus are hyper aggressive in showing their faith and symbols, and in protecting in it too. Preciously, for this reason only, BJP are strong around Hyderabad (to counter MIM). All these years, the rulers (from SA) were holding the Hindus in gong in full blow back. But Telangana becomes a state, I bet there will be communal tensions, that will lead to polarization, that ultimately benefit BJP/RSS.

Now I understand how BJP/Jana Sangh and RSS failed to remove INC rule for all these decades. They simply lack cut throat political ability. They failed horribly today and joined mafia queen in creating a mafia ruled state for the next decade at least and abandoned 25 MP seats to EJ almost forever.

I hope NM wins the elections but now I am not so sure. After what Sushma did I am sure there are many like MMJ in UP and Bihar ( Bihar Modi wife is also EJ) who are equally back stabbing.

Cow-belt UC elites considers Nehru Dynasty and its current head SG as one of their own. +++1. Hindus of telangana give as good as they get while the SA Moneybags have been giving Hafta to the owaisis. This is a fact and not discussed in the thread so far.

The arrangement between the owaisis and the SA moneybags will continue for some time.

All the heavy lifting during the communal riots was done by the Telangana folks. For instance go to the top of Golconda fort. There was a very small temple there in the 80s. I went there in 2004 and the temple has expanded many times over. They are the ones holding the orcs at bay and they should get their credit. The Nizam thing is just cheap talk and will go away in no time.
