At New Delhi my carry on bag was opened and thoroughly searched and the guy asked me if I am carrying bullets. Obviously the police at the Indian airports do look for bullets.

Here is another cop from US arrested for carrying bullets in Nepal.

But look at the comments though mostly critical of the cop.

imo due to huge volumes, the scanning of checked in baggage in videshi airports is highly automated and sensor based .... maybe explosive sniffers, drug sniffing dogs etc...not sure if anyone eyeballs them carefully as for hand baggage.

so people could be smuggling barn doors around and nobody knows.

in india probably the checks are lot more thorough even in the older airports where scanning is done before checkin, they sit there and check carefully.

How is it that christian Indian priests, doing their ordained duty of fondling minor female children and who admit to the same, are only deported whereas Interpol red corner notices are issued against Hindu Spiritual Leaders who are framed for alleged child molestation.

US security for checkin baggages for outbound traffic seems strong like good sieve. i wonder if they could catch a couple of live goats someone packs in by mistake.

btw when going on international travel who doesnt carefully clean and pack the bag? you dont just leave stuff lying around and throw in things at last min.

The number of cases of people being caught with live bullets suggests that people are also carrying in firearms disassembled which are obviously not being caught.

The Tanzanian minister in charge of poverty reduction, Edgar Maokola-Majogo, has admitted that Indian police found a single bullet in his possession at Mumbai airport, but denies any ulterior motive.

The bullet was found in the minister's brief case

Mr Maokola-Majogo says the bullet was found by Indian security agents minutes before he boarded his flight back to Tanzania after attending a conference on poverty reduction in India.

He told the BBC that the bullet was inadvertently left in his brief case when he left the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam, for India.

"The special hunting gun bullet accidentally dropped from a packet inside my brief case which also had all my conference papers," said Mr Maokola-Majogo.

He says that he is an ardent hunter and is licensed to carry a hunting gun in Tanzania.

"What could I do with a single bullet without my hunting gun which I left back in Tanzania," asked the minister.

Tanzania's Majira newspaper on Thursday quoted Indian press reports as saying that the minister had been held by Indian security agents for about eight hours after bullets were found in his possession.

But Mr Maokola-Majogo says that Indian police neither harassed, arrested or charged him with any offence.

He says that he voluntarily wrote a one-page statement regarding the bullet found in his possession and was immediately allowed to proceed with his journey home.

Kathmandu, Jan 14, 2014
KATHMANDU: Police at the Tribhuvan International Airport arrested a US police officer with seven bullets of a pistol on Saturday. Police identified the man, detained with the bullets of a 45 calibre pistol at around 8:30 am, as Leonard John David Rubin (passport Number-07776560). He got arrested while he was about to board a flight to Lukla, Solukhumbu, police said, adding that they recovered the bullets loaded in a magazine from the pocket of his bag. However, police found no gun in his possession.

Rubin is in the custody of Metropolitan Police Circle at Gaushala, according to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office. “The Kathmandu District Administration Office has remanded him to seven days in custody. He will be charged under the Arms and Ammunition Act,” said MPCO spokesperson SSP Hemanta Pal, adding that an investigation is on. Rubin has told police he does not know where the bullets came from.

Even Newark, NJ, stages Nannygate revenge:
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,456660,00.html
June 2003
Going through airport security is tough these days, but especially if you're carrying hollow-point bullets. That's what Master P found out on Tuesday, when police at Newark Airport arrested the gangsta rap mogul for allegedly trying to pass the illegal ammo through security, the New York Post reports.

Police told the Post that Master P (real name: Percy Miller) was on his way from New Jersey to Los Angeles when he tried to check a case that he told security personnel contained an unloaded handgun for which he was properly licensed. But the agents said they found the six armor-piercing rounds in a separate magazine. He was arrested, taken to Union County Jail in nearby Elizabeth, issued a summons, and released. Possession of the so-called ''cop killer'' bullets is a third-class felony in New Jersey, though conviction on a first offense would result in a likely sentence of probation.

It's a good thing posters on this thread are highly knowledgeable and know US law inside and out. :D Gosh, I guess I would be in big trouble if I could ever afford to fly to Alaska to hunt.
So far, posters are assuming that the guy always only uses that bag when he flies somewhere. It is quite possible that the guy could have taken it while driving to a local overnight shooting trip and could have stuck some loose ammo into a side-pocket somewhere and forgotten all about it. Then, he takes the same bag when flying to India and gets caught by New Delhi customs. This scenario is quite likely, especially if a gun was not found in his luggage, because bullets are pretty small items and much easier to miss.

Clearly, you and I are very different people. My last trip to Cozumel, customs guy found in one of my luggage bags: a number of Euro and British coins, a few touristy tchotchkies, expired motion-sickness medication, an iPod gen II charger that I thought I'd lost and two spare SD memory cards for a camera that I wasn't carrying. Needless to say, these were all from a European trip from a few years previous and were in two side pockets.

Gents...you are all missing an important fact here. If one is a janitor in the sheriff's office in hicksville, middle of nowhere in America (MONA, copyright me) then he/she has jurisdiction to police the entire world. They can go in and out of airports, catch criminals, meet with a country's leaders and chief of army staff at a moment's notice and advise them on security procedures and finally save the world from armageddon. Indian, Cheeni, Russian military, police etc are all incompetent, corrupt and in general nincompoops compared to above janitor. 8)

Well, I collected all the cases, and tweeted the link below which aggregates all the bullet-at-airport-arrests to Secretary of State John Kerry, Senator Charles Schumer, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Representative Peter King and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton. Maybe a bit of information might help them (or rather, their staff might read & carry some information to them). I have given them the opportunity not to make utter fools of themselves.

One of the questions I was always asked in UK airports was "Did you pack your bags yourself?". Once you say yes, if any illicit stuff is found - it is your responsibility.

Like I said - who will listen to an excuse that says "I went for a Holi party and was carrying some grass in the bag and forgot to take it out" Some things you don't forget.

MLAs, Youth Congress leader (said to be Rahul Gandhi's aide), BJP President's pilot, even a Punjab cop have been arrested for carrying bullets at Indian airports. I now have more than 30 cases listed here now:

The Punjab cop case is here (June 2012)

The US Dept of State even has an advisory to carefully examine your luggage for ammo. before travelling to India, because Indians arrest people with bullets at their airports.
http://photos.state.gov/libraries/india ... ournal.pdf (PDF)
Before traveling to or from India, you are urged to thoroughly inspect all bags and clothing that might inadvertently contain prohibited items. In the past, U.S. citizens have been arrested or detained when airport security officials discovered loose ammunition in their luggage. If you are found to have loose ammunition or bullets on your person, you could be charged with violation of the Indian Arms Act, incarcerated, and/or deported from India.

The levels of stupidity that arise out of Amrican jingogiri are revealing.

Here are guidelines for carriage of ammunition in US airlines. "Forgot" is not an excuse.

http://crime.about.com/library/blguns.htm
Ammunition - Check with your airline or travel agent to see if ammunition is permitted in checked baggage on the airline you are flying. If ammunition is permitted, it must be declared to the airline at check-in. Small arms ammunitions for personal use must be securely packed in fiber, wood or metal boxes or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition. Ask about limitations or fees, if any, that apply.
http://reservations.usairways.com/en-US ... items.html
Checked ammunition may not exceed 11 lbs/5 kg per person. Ammunition clips with ammunition loaded are not accepted. Ammunition must be packed in the original manufacturing package or constructed of wood, fiber, plastic, or metal and provide separation for cartridges. No additional documentation is required.
American airlines
https://www.aa.com/i18n/travelInformati ... rearms.jsp
Ammunition in its original packaging from the manufacturer is preferred, however it will be accepted in fiber, wood or metal boxes, or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition. Loose ammunition, magazines or clips will not be accepted.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/lok-sabha-elections-2014/news/US-rights-panel-under-fire-for-influencing-Indian-election/articleshow/33288151.cm
A US Congressional panel's hearing on religious freedom in India came under fire from some of its own members on Friday. They called it an attempt to influence elections in India, even as Hindu activists in the US said the partisan event was aimed at undermining the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

The hearing by the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission (TLHRC), named after a late Congressman whose holocaust survival resulted in a lifelong devotion to human rights, was deliberately timed to impact the election, US lawmaker Tulsi Gabbard, a self-described Hindu-American, told the panel, after a Hindu activist group complained the panel had packed the hearing with witnesses who have an ''ulterior motive.''

"I do not believe the timing of this hearing is a coincidence. The national elections in India begin on Monday and continue until May 12. I am concerned that the goal of this hearing is to influence the outcome of India's national elections, which is not an appropriate role for the US Congress. Such interference with India's elections would undermine our shared goals,'' Gabbard, a Democrat from US President Obama's home state of Hawaii, told the panel.

"We need to be especially careful not to directly or indirectly contribute to sectarian strife in India or other countries. I am concerned that this hearing is an attempt to foment fear and loathing purely for political purposes. This is wrong and it will contribute to further sectarian division in India and will undermine national interests of the US," Gabbard added, in withering criticism of the hearing.

"Any attempt by the United States to have an effect on the Indian elections will backfire,'' Gabbard's senior colleague Brad Sherman cautioned while questioning panelists.

Leaders of the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) echoed similar concerns, noting the ''unbalanced'' panel of four witnesses, all of whom expressed concern over the prospective election of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Narendra Modi, as Prime Minister. A witness that would have offered a Hindu perspective to ground realities and the multi-dimensional nature of inter-religious tensions in India was not included, despite requests by some members of the TLHRC, the foundation said.

Witnesses who testified before the committee included Katrina Lantos Swett, Vice Chair, United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, John Sifton, Asia Advocacy Director, Human Rights Watch, Robin Phillips, Executive Director, The Advocates for Human Rights, John Dayal, Member, National Integration Council, Government of India. Swett has been a leading advocate of continuing the US denial of visa for Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

HAF activists said they had reached out to the office of Congressman Keith Ellison, who is the first Muslim to be elected to the US Congress and is co-chair of the TLHRC, asking to add their witness ''to provide additional perspective on religious freedom in India.'' But they were told that only human rights groups were slated to be on the panel, and not specific to any religion. HAF pointed out though that panelist John Dayal serves as the Secretary General of the All India Christian Council in addition to being an activist, and said, ''the rejection seems disingenuous at best, and indicative of the ulterior motives of the hearing sponsors at worst.''

"While the promotion of international religious freedom should be a US policy priority, the testimony made it clear that the witnesses today simply had an axe to grind with the BJP's prime ministerial candidate,'' said Jay Kansara, HAF's Associate Director of Governmental Relations.

The panel's leading witness made no secret of her concern over a Modi-led BJP-alliance coming to power. ''Many religious minority communities fear religious freedom will be jeopardized if the BJP wins and the Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi becomes Prime Minister. We hope that is not the case,'' USCIRF's Katrina Swett said, recommending that the State Department elevate religious freedom concerns in the bilateral strategic dialogue mechanism.

US hypocrisy even to its allies!

US blasts Europe’s plan for anti-snooping network as 'unfair advantage'
Published time: April 05, 2014
http://rt.com/news/us-europe-nsa-snowden-549/
US officials on Friday slammed plans to construct an EU-centric communication system, designed to prevent emails and phone calls from being swept up by the NSA, warning that such a move is a violation of trade laws.

Calling Europe’s proposal to build its own integrated communication system “draconian,” the office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) said American tech companies, which are worth an estimated $8 trillion per year, would take a financial hit if Brussels gives the initiative the green light.

"Recent proposals from countries within the European Union to create a Europe-only electronic network (dubbed a 'Schengen cloud' by advocates) or to create national-only electronic networks could potentially lead to effective exclusion or discrimination against foreign service suppliers that are directly offering network services, or dependent on them," the USTR said in its annual report.

In the aftermath of Edward Snowden’s whistleblowing activities at the National Security Agency, which proved that much of the world’s telecommunication meta-data is being stored away in the United States, European countries – notably Germany and France - are desperate to get a handle on their own networks without relying on a meddlesome middleman.

Germany’s outrage over the revelations hit full stride last month when Der Spiegel, the popular daily newspaper, asked if it is “time for the country to open a formal espionage investigation” following yet more disclosures that Britain's GCHQ infiltrated German internet companies and the NSA collected information about (German Chancellor Angela) “Merkel in a special database.”

Now, US trade officials are up in arms over proposals by Germany's Deutsche Telekom (in which the German government owns less than 30 percent), to avoid passing communications to the United States, saying the move would give European companies an unfair advantage over their US colleagues.

"Any mandatory intra-EU routing may raise questions with respect to compliance with the EU's trade obligations with respect to internet-enabled services," the USTR said. "Accordingly, USTR will be carefully monitoring the development of any such proposals."

If the European-centric plan gets the go ahead, it would require the dismantlement of the Safe Harbor agreement that allows US companies access to European data. It should be noted that despite the work of the NSA, Europe has some of the strictest privacy laws in the world.

US telecommunication and internet firms are now lobbying Washington to calm fears over privacy concerns in an effort to halt Europe’s move toward protectionism.

Similar criticisms were directed by the USTR at another American ally, Canada. The representative complained about privacy rules enforced in Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Nova Scotia, which do not normally allow public bodies to store and access private data of Canadians outside the country.

The USTR also criticized the Canadian federal government’s move to build a unified email system, which required data to be stored in Canada and thus prevented US companies from bidding. Bell Canada eventually won the $400-million contract.

“In today’s information-based economy, particularly where a broad range of services are moving to “cloud” based delivery where US firms are market leaders, this law hinders US exports of a wide array of products and services,” the report said.

Much like the EU, Canada has concerns over its dependence on US for routing telecommunications, with some 90 percent of all Canadian internet traffic going through the US. The Canadian Internet Registration Authority proposed in October 2013 building up domestic infrastructure, which would change this and protect the data from potential NSA snooping.

The fundign for this is obviously from the US,manipulating social media to influence the Indian election, where its stool pigeon is the AAP led by quislings Kejriwal and Rajmohan Gandhi.

Head of Change.org India is the same traitor who heads Twitter India - Raheel Khursheed - a guy who keeps having a go at the Indian Army's "unthinkable atrocities" In J&K, who networks with Pakis, and who blithely tweets jokes making fun of Hindu customs and festivals.

How do people know that teetar/fbook/guggal are not similar to zunzunyo? What if they are also funded by the See Eye A like zunzunyo using benamis? Or for that matter even windoughs? Ok, even if they were not benamis to start with, have they not been recruited to use them as platforms for snooping, subverting and destabilizing? How can these amirkhan companies be trusted by the world?

Brasil is doing the right thing by trying to build a network of internet that circumvents the amirkhan. Others should learn from them. Learning from Cheen, all countries should try to develop their own local variations for these online services instead of allowing monopoly to phoren corporations. I am not saying that the local corporations should get the monopoly. I am just saying that there should be checks and balances in the form of competition.

This cop raises the suspicions tremendously. I can understand a layman saying that he forgot the bullets. It is understandable but is not valid grounds for the authorities going lax if a layman forgets bullets because the layman may not understand the security implications. But a cop/military/intelligence guy 'forgetting' ammunition is very unconvincing to me. A guy with a such a background is supposed to know the security implications and therefore is supposed to be very careful unless he did it intentionally. Coming at election time, I think this needs serious investigations specially after David Headley episode and the recent theories of using MH370 for staging 9/11 event.
