I agree with you that misinterpreting the mandate is dangerous to political longevity. There are two aspects: politics and administration.
Politics is about winning hearts and minds i.e. votes. Administration is about fulfilling needs i.e. bijli(electricity), sadak(roads), paani(water), jobs, education, security, ...etc.
One can perform administration well but fail on political scale or one can succeed in political field and fail in administration. Either way, it leads to failure in the long run even if there is success in the short run. More successful regimes mix both aspects properly and judiciously.
The success of Modi has been judicious mix of development with Hindhuthva. He has not overdone either of the two. His campaign has tried to balance the two very cleverly. While Modi talked about development, Shah talked about Hindhuthva. Even Modi raised the Hindhuthva issues under the cloak of development. For example, when he talked about security for women in riot areas, its quite clear what he was saying. Similarly, Modi talked against 'pink revolution'. Modi talked against art 370. Modi contests from Varanasi. All these are part of his campaign due to Hindhuthva. He is talking development but there is always an underlying current of Hindhuthva. Modi, unlike his predecessors does not have to go overboard on Hindhuthva, because his opponents already do that job for him. He was made popular as a Hindhuthva icon. Otherwise, one can say that there are other BJP CMs who are also doing well. But, Modi became popular because his opponents made him popular as the biggest Hindhuthva icon. Modi used it by not getting apologetic about it. Then, he added development into his brand image. Modi does not have to go overboard, because he is constantly accused of being a Hindhuthva Hitler. Remember, Modi declared that he is a Hindhu nationalist?
Now, if Modi comes to power and does not deliver on any of the Hindhuthva items but does moderately well on development, then what will his opponents do? The opponents will say that Modi betrayed Hindhuthva. If Modi performs on Hindhuthva and does not deliver on development, then his opponents will say that Modi did not do development. So, Modi will have to do both. The good thing is that both Hindhuthva and development can go hand in hand. Infact, that is the real message of Modi. Modi's campaign is that Hindhuthva and development can go hand in hand. Whether he can do that after coming to power or not, one has to wait and watch.
PS: Singha saar, already typed it before seeing your message. Please allow this one.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Modi's first mandate should be economy and development but what pray is Hindutva in Art370, UCC, NGO regulation and foreign money regulation acts, etc. Only Ram mandir may be called Hindutva and a national Freedom of religion bill is necessary to save our future generations and civilization. Without some progress on these Modi would face ABV situation in 2019.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Lets just make an INDIAN government first instead of Italian-Mughal-American one. First strengthen our institutions, economy and then think of a resurgent Hindutva.

For clarification, the use of Vikaas & Suraaj as separate from Hindutva was not to convey that the later does not foresee the former as part and parcel of it.KLP Dubey wrote:The damage done by deracination runs deep, even among those who think they are not deracinated. The tendency to pontificate with western-style logical constructs is an amusing trait of 'educated' Indians. There is still a good chance that the last Westerner will be an Indian.RajeshA wrote:If half of the voters for BJP voted for it for Vikaas & Suraaj (development & governance) while the other half voted for it due to Hindutva, how can one say that the mandate for BJP is only for V&S?
This is again like saying the Hindutvavadi voters are only good for making sacrifice!
It is ridiculous to imagine that 'Hindutva' doesn't encompass 'vikas' and 'sushasan'. Those who want to decouple the two fail to realize that the rising commitment to 'vikas' and 'sushasan' emerges from a proper understanding of 'dharma'. Neither is sustainable on its own, unless you want to imagine an India full of doubleCrossers, atheists, 'liberals', and a restive underclass of Moonshiners. This mandate, assuming it comes as expected, will be as much a repudiation of that scenario as it is a mandate for development and governance.
The mandates of the past have been wasted because they were too many 'technocrats' and 'economists' who have completely failed to deliver a prosperous and cohesive India despite the best 'phoren' education from places like Akshvardha, Kamboja, Hardvar, etc. Disconnection with dharma was the downfall of these pretenders.
Vikaas & Suraaj is most definitely an intrinsic part of Hindutva, simply because Hindutva is all about the Renewal of Bharatiya Rashtra, and development and governance being part of Raj Dharma, how can it not be part of Hindutva?! How else can Bharatiya Sabhyata rebound?
The use of Hindutva and V&S as separate agendas for a Modi Sarkar was not suggested by me, but rather earlier in this discussion here.
However a huge part of BJP's voter base are instinctively voting for NaMo because of his image as Hindu Hruday Samrat. They can live with it that neither electoral politics nor administration allow the leader to be overly Hindutvavadi! But that doesn't mean they accept that when in government, that NaMo would not do his part in putting India back on the rails of Hindu civilizational consolidation. They expect at a minimum abrogation of Personal Civil Laws for minorities through UCC & Article 370 which are all symbols of Islamic Exceptionalism and Separatism. They expect at a minimum stopping the Muslim & Christian demographic expansion in India through illegal immigration and runaway conversion activity. They expect that at a minimum, Jihadis, Ghazis and Muwalis would not be continuing their aggression towards Hindus. They expect a minimum of Ram Mandir which has become a symbol of Hindu rights to their land and religious places.
So if Vikaas & Suraaj is for the Renewal of Bharatiya Sabhyata, then Hindutvavadis agree with it, and at the moment they also believe in it. But if Development & Governance is for a population which has been taken over by Islam, Christianity & Marxist atheism, then Hindutvavadis don't see any difference between BJP's current proposition & Manmohan Singh's statement that minorities have the first right on India's resources.
NaMo's govt. would have to provide sufficient assurance to his voters that Development & Governance he speaks of would not turn a blind eye to Islamic & Missionary aggression on India and help in the Renewal of Bharatiya Sabhyata.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
That's the point. Even ABV was doing good work in development & governance, and yet he was thrown out in 2004. Hindus were put off by his turning his back on the Hindutva agenda.Supratik wrote:Modi's first mandate should be economy and development but what pray is Hindutva in Art370, UCC, NGO regulation and foreign money regulation acts, etc. Only Ram mandir may be called Hindutva and a national Freedom of religion bill is necessary to save our future generations and civilization. If NaMo wants to win 2019, he better deliver on both Vikaas & Suraaj as well as on other issues on the Hindutva agenda!
And no Togadias don't own the Hindutva agenda! It is not just about chest-beating, sloganeering and showing the Trishul!

Kant said land acquisition for large-scale infrastructure projects had “come to a complete standstill” and the new government, irrespective of whether it was formed by the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party, had to work on amending the law, making it more industry-friendly.
“The new government will have to recognise that if manufacturing has to move forward, along with infrastructure, the law has to be redrafted keeping in mind that a fair price is paid to the farmer. The Act has to be simplified for the sake of manufacturing and growth and then only we will see foreign capital flowing in,” said Kant.

Suraj sarr,
I agree with you that misinterpreting the mandate will result into disaster. But not with the rest of the assessment. It was Hindu internet warriors who were constantly backing modi for all the while when absolutely NO ONE wanted to even utter the name of NM should he/she labeled as "communal". Hindutvavadis were the first and the most loyal supporters of him. Till about a year ago he was nothing more than an "Amit Shah" of today in terms of popularity. Who other than Hindutvavadis back AS today? Why AS is so popular in western UP?
Though it is fully to NM's credit that he used that support base to propagate his message of development and drew crores of fence sitters into the fold. He did an marvelous job of exposing the fake secularism of every other party which disgusted so many "secular hindu" voters. But it must be remembered that these fence sitters are always quick to cross the fence when chips are down. But Hindu warriors will never back off. They will hold the fort and keep spreading the message to the fence sitters also. So NM better not piss this section of voters.
In any case, as JohnnyG garu said, it is not like Hindus are demanding something which will curb the development. Most of the issues don't even require any kind of financial budgeting. Neither we want the head-rolling of minorities. We are demanding our rights and equality that were denied to us. That's it.
Also, in my original post I didn't say NM should address the hindu issues by hook or crook. I said he must make an honest try to do them. Even if they are not possible to do due to constitutional limitations, or any other realistic barrier, NM must at least attempt for it to his followers satisfaction. At least that will keep boiling the issues and educate the new generation about them, at the same time it will expose many more secular faces. I believe that it will only increase his popularity for next election rather than reducing it.

How to get your Voter ID Card in Bangalore if you ae already registered
I could not find my Voter ID card and so wnated to get a copy and it is very easy- go to Bangalore One cneterAsk for the center where they will give the Voter ID copy. It is wise to initially check your Voter Part and serial Number online at

as it will help immensely. Once there tell them your name ,fathers name serial and part number and they will print and laminate your voter ID for Rs 10.Only hitch is at times the server is slow.I got the card despite a slow server within 1/2 an hour though technically it could have been done in minutes.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
I tweeted before that this election is not so much about Secularism as it is about Pseudo Secularism. Lots of the V & S crowd that were before neutral on the 'secular' - 'communal' debate have now become openly 'communal', thanks to Aaptards and Congoon antics, statements. DVS, Singhvi, Ayyubs, Jhas has helped tens of millions transition beyond V & S to proper secularism as is defined by Modi. To do that Modi and team went about scientifically.
Step 1: The allure of V & S was dangled wrt Gujarat model. Endless debates and balls thrown into the others courts. Victory obviously would be the Truth, and in this case people particularly in SM were ready with data that indeed Gujarat had done exceedingly well.
Step 2: After millions were convinced, they took the blinkers out and had a fresh look at Modi. People like Kishwar did a major part in removing the riot stigma. Then came the court judgements and the Teesta's and Sharmas lying and desperation were at the fore.
Step 3: Misuse of CBI, encounter stats investigated convinced people the Congi's had a lot to hide.
Step 4: Muzaffarnagar riots and the way the seculars behaved sealed V & S newcomers opinion on Modi's version of the Pseudo secular debate.
Now they need only rinse and repeat this cycle till the last phase. Don't do anything silly. And Voila 350 plus in the kitty.
PS: You have 5 years ahead to convince at will these for why a Dharmic union is the best for this country. Things will change.

Hot pursuit of Muslim votes by non-BJP parties has created divisions in seats with large minority populations
In some instances, the BJP just has to sit back and watch the minority candidates fight it out

Many conservative elements from the Muslim community are also in the electoral theatre
It’s not fear but competing local interests that often determine the way Muslims vote in parts of UP

I hope Ananth Kumar can conquer him in Bangalore South. If he loses, he can't use MSM to do Kejriwal style build up of himself. He cannot claim then to be a "popular" leader. Electoral Loss would look very bad on his resume.
He can still easily be smuggled into Rajya Sabha. After all Congress strength in Karnataka is considerable.
There would however be many new IT companies coming up working on India's digital infrastructure. Infosys may not necessarily be among those who profit.

Considering the under-reporting of wealth going on in 'God's own country' I doubt this number to be actually true. In rural areas I am familiar with, Muslims have very deep pockets and are at the top of the pyramid in wealth acquisition, be it gold or land and of recent business enterprises in towns and cities.Kerala and Gujarat have emerged as the top two states in India where poverty among Muslims in both rural and urban areas declined drastically in the last seven years, according to the National Sample Survey (NSS) statistics. it will have to be stepwise. one enemy after another. I'm sure saffron is already calculating its enemies per their threat level. but yes, there is a long list of sellouts who are willing to serve the Durbar's interests. it will require "intelligence" from each and every region. analysis of the inputs to understand who's ambitions are what. then piece-meal absorption of all these forces. there should be several regionalists whose "ambitions" can be nurtured as a member of Saffron. such people should be inducted.
there will be others whose ambitions can be used to destroy them. and there will be others whose ambition will be to destroy saffron.
the focus should be on absorbing the "useful" ones and destroying the threats. it has to be simultaneous. can't wait around for the good potentials to be "collected" by other forces.

it might not reflect in seats immediately but rss is on upsurge throughout the state and that even has quite a lot of sympathy from official quarters (non-pol). times are a changing.SRoy wrote:So, the Kalighat hag is caught between saffron pincer from East (NE/Assam) and (West)Bihar/Jharkhand/Odissa.Rahul M wrote:Naorem Mohen @laimacha 2m
