Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Regarding Abe Rosenthal was just a more nuanced and a head-patter with a better perspective.
Here are some dots to connect:
1. Amar Singh of SP pays into Clintoon's re-election campaign (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/indi ... eferral=PM)
2. Clintoon is now kicked around as a modi-baiter. (links all over the place)
And the clinton'ites were foremost using their half-brights for India's Cap-Eliminate-Rollback.
Is this a small wheel within a wheel?

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
It is simple - A x-tian principal of a x-tian college asks to vote on "secular" lines. Is that secular or communal? Where was this inner-voice (the inner pakistaniyat) in 2009? In 2004? So much so that the inner pakistaniyat is regurgitated now in such a "secular" verse!SwamyG wrote:It is not wrong for any one to make their opinions or request someone to vote as per their thinking. As long as they do not force the listeners then it is the freedom everyone enjoys. In a fair and just country all should have the same privilege or freedom to speak for or against a politician. He could have openly called out Modi, the frankness would have been appreciated.
It is a irrational decision that EC does not allow open canvassing on religious lines. In a free country, one should have the freedom to ask votes on religion and caste. How can EC decide that it is incorrect, it should be challenged in the SC. Can it be?
Why have religious universities and special privileges for certain religions? It is clear religion is important to people. Let the people decide based on their priorities and interests.
Remember all the guys with inner pakistaniyat - Rapepal was one of them - so is it possible that the Principle-sans principal of St. Xaviers could be a sexual abuser? Will lacerating penance bring out more?
In an equal right democracy - it is indeed irrational to seek votes on cast or religion lines. You do not want to be PM of Karnataka and CM of muslims - do you?
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Like the Republican Thugs who blocked Obama in Maasa, the Indian opposition is going to be a pain for Modi. They will use media to hound Modi even more. Modi has to ignore the barking dogs for some time.Bade wrote:If NDA/BJP wins do not expect anything other than a focus on the economy for the next 5 years. All other hair brained ideas will be tested only if they get another mandate post 5 years. That is what a sane politician would do. So expect more secularism of the right kind in the first term.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
At least in North India most small traders and retailers (which comprise Justdial list) would be considered a BJP constituency. I think this holds true for S. Indian Hindus as well...So, I would caution about skew being eliminated.Frederic wrote:*All numbers through JustDial.com. Thus the inherent skew in the BJP supplied list was eliminated.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
It is OK for the principal to endorse whomever he wishes and provide a rationale - but not OK for him to use official communication to students to do so...St. Xaviers just proved that it was no different from any Mullah-driven Madrassa, through this act of its Principal.SwamyG wrote:It is not wrong for any one to make their opinions or request someone to vote as per their thinking. Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
A Christian Principal should have the right to ask people to vote on Christian lines. That is my point. I am arguing that the country should allow politicians to seek votes on the basis of religion. Instead of BJP whinning about it, it should motivate 1000 Hindu Principals to step and "urge" its students to vote for Mod - directly or indirectly. It does not matter. It is war, and BJP should be more bold.disha wrote:It is simple - A x-tian principal of a x-tian college asks to vote on "secular" lines. Is that secular or communal? That rascal should be doing his $hit outside the Xaviers Campus building on the street like others not using the college premises paid partly by Hindu taxpayers.
I think other Hindu principals and Hindu religious leaders should come out and ask for Votes
p.s. No need to increase BP (talking to myself). Talked to a friend in Mumbai about it. He says words of these scoundrels have effect on Modi votes any more and people are detemined and united to get rid of the elites. He said there is enough evidence to show that Milind Deora has paid in crores to this guy. The rascal is also in committees with Teesta and other usual goons.

Correct. Except for the word 'more'....India does not have secularism of the right kind now.Bade wrote: So expect more secularism of the right kind in the first term.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Mobile phones are not allowed inside polling booths. The security will not keep your cellphone while you finish voting. Instead, if you carry a cell phone you will be sent back. So please remember not to carry your cellphone with you. And please spread this to all. Hope Chennai does better than Bangalore which achieved only 53% voting, and the main reason is they were not allowed because of mobile.

NaMo, Rajiv Malhotra, Dayanand Saraswati have all expressed their thoughts on what the right kind of secularism should be...RamaY wrote:Is there any place in the world there exists secularism of right kind, now or before?
I don't want to be constrained by the past or the present in defining what the future should be (though ancient India and ancient China are the closest historical precedents in my definition of truly secular societies).
Any way, all this is OT and subject for discussion after May 16.

then SC supervised SIT inquiry with Modi at the center most proilly HM too, no congress will dare to do that, in BJP ruled states polis are
fully prepared simple chanting of AoA without permission will be severly dealt with.
Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Right kind of secularism for India is separation of the state and the church. It cuts minority and majority politics as government can't intervene in minority or majority religions. That secularism can be sold as Universal secularism and more importantly to those that see any thing western is modern and good to imitate.RamaY wrote:Is there any place in the world there exists secularism of right kind, now or before?

If the xtian institution is taking any govt money in the form of subsidy/grant for minority etc - then it is unethical to become political using the office of the institution.

All educational institutes receive some form of subsidy from the state. It is better that they do not entangle themselves in political processes, other than in purely academic roles or as experts in political science associated with Univs making commentaries in the media on public policy issues.

EC put in the extended polling session in a bid to stop any momentum Modi may get as the tallest leader in these elections. Or at least slow down the momentum given the weeks (almost) time between the big phases. So far Modi is utilising it well by fine tuning his interviews and giving enough time for the fence sitters to see all the presstitutes and charlatans like the padre in full action.

Namo is the 32k point of a 42.2 race. so far he is on target pace....fatigue is setting in and easy stores of glycogen are exhausted. he needs fresh Gu gels, water and a strong mind to complete the last 10k strongly. its all fat burn and mindgame now until may12.

The xtian institution is an autonomous public institution and gets grants from UGC. The very fact that it is indulging in political should jeopardize its autonomous status and also its UGC - no?Gus wrote:If the xtian institution is taking any govt money in the form of subsidy/grant for minority etc - then it is unethical to become political using the office of the institution.

Re: Statewide and National runup to 2014 General elections
Just came back from voting. A small field report from a mostly middle class, predominantly Marathi speaking area of Mumbai North East constituency.
There was a small crowd of people at the polling station at 7.20 AM when we reached. No political party had set up their booths yet. The voting procedure was done in 10 mins.
The worrying thing was that even at 8 30 AM I did not see any large number of enthu people suggestive of a wave. The overall mahoul was the same as 2009. Lazy middle class working stiffs don't want to come out and vote. The crowd was 50 percent retired people and 50 percent everyone else. Where are the youth?
My friends and I will be going house to house in order to encourage voters to get out and cast their vote instead of sitting at home.
