Heard on Twitter: "These elections have proven one thing. A Gujju can do anything to get a US visa."

and

"Cong files FIR against BJP for gang rape."

Sorry guys.. was lungi dancing on twitter and FB..

First of all, congrats to all.. har har mahadev, jay bhavani jay shivaji, jay shri ram and vande mataram..

second of all, sugar lobby of western MH seriously breached. I wish they continue the offensive till september. Need to deploy amitbhai to MH asap. MH needs to be biufurcated into vidarbh and maharashtra. Vidarbha by defualt will become a state like MP, GJ and 36garh. I was predicting 30-32 seats in MH. I am happy to announce they are leading on 43 seats in MH. Baramati will be won by Pawars by 2000 votes.. what a downfall.

thirdly, congress winning only 1 seat in MH - Nanded ashok chavan. Better news is ashok chavan will soon be disqualified and there will by by-elections in nanded which will then return a BJP MP in nanded. Its matter of time.

fourthly, I hereby officially declare end of mandal commission's effects. The circle has finished its course and the Hindu consolidation which was blocked is now perhaps back on course. it may be too early, but it looks so nonetheless.. I expect division of UP in 3/4 states and win and consolidate power there.

fifthly, for the first time, there won't be an opposition leader in india.. :)

rest i will write as and when it strikes me..

enjoy till then..

Abhijit ji,

this verse is more apt -

बुडाला औरंग्या पापी | म्लेंच्छ संहार जाहला |
मोडली मांडिली क्षेत्रे | आनंदवन भुवनी ||

at least thatha LKA did mention "Narendrabhai Modi" had a important role in it.
Sushma should get the ministry of culture (dance is a big part of it). Or her old post of leader of the opposition if Congress cannot get it.

LKA as speaker will do so much drama its best to ask him to wait for Presidentship.

The shock of 2004 and the (somewhat expect to me) disappointment of 2009 has been completely washed away now. Not only has the NDA won, but it has an eminently capable leader at the helm.

On CNN & NBC news, there is a small story with a smaller link with the usual drivel on right-wing hindu nationalist pro-business modi who presided over 2002 riots. Nothing more. A pox on them!

Tharoor had even openly courted the Christian Bishops seeking their help to get votes. This was widely reported in the media, but EC turned a blind eye. I guess habal has also listed out a few vote bank areas for any non-BJP candidate; the Vizhinjam, Bheema Palli area which is purely "secular". So if it is these votes are now getting counted then O.Rajagopal can call it a day. Sad that he did not contest from a safe seat as well. He did bring in a few trains for the thankless Mallus when he was the State Min. for Railways.

Live Indian television on screens at Times Square, New York

However, it's not just the country which is excited about the Lok Sabha Election results. BJP supporters in New York reportedly gathered in Times Sqaure today to watch the the counting of the elections in India. According to some of the tweets, people who gathered there were given free tea and samosas while they cheered for BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

With ~335 seats, NDA already has functional 2/3rds majority in Lok Sabha unless parliament attendance exceeds 92% . Average attendance is typically between 78-80% . What they need to arrange is 2/3rds majority in Rajya Sabha, which is where Amma and Didi come into the picture.

Suraj wrote:Singha: please tell us more about the political history of individual Assam constituencies or regions and how much things changed today.
In lower Assam, there are 3 seats (Dhubri, Barpeta - both Muslim majority, and Kokrajhar - Bodo seat). It is only here that the BJP has done badly, but BJP hardly existed here. This is the stronghold of the AIUDF, and most of the fight was between the Congress and the AIUDF. The Bodo seat was fought by proxies (BPF for the Congress and BPPF for the BJP). Whoever wins here is going to be on sale.

In central Assam, there are 3 seats (Mangaldoi, Nagaon - both have 30-35% Muslims, and Gauhati). This is the region where the BJP was decently placed. Nagaon and Mangaldoi are polarised and tend to vote for the BJP (both have been electing BJP for more than 10 years now). Gauhati is an urban constituency and BJP has always done well here. Once the AGP was very strongly present here, but has since atrophied (had atrophied even 5 years ago). The fight was between the Cong and the BJP, with the AGP and AIUDF playing spoilers in specific constituencies. AIUDF had tried to help Cong, by fielding spoiler candidates like Moni Kumar Subba and Aditya Langthasa. Looks like it has not worked.

In upper Assam, there are 5 seats (Tezpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, and Kaliabor). The fight was generally between the Congress and the AGP. The BJP for all its efforts, had not been able to win strongly here. It has never won a single LS seat. Muslims are irrelevant here, except for Kaliabor (~30%). Here, the BJP has swept the entire belt (even Gogoi is losing his own seat, Kaliabor). This is the huge change.

In the southern Barak valley, there are 2 seats (Karimganj and Silchar). Karimganj is a Muslim dominated constituency, and BJP has not won since 91 (when Hindus were still majority). This is a traditional BJP stronghold, particularly at the Assembly level, where BJP tends to win all the Hindu seats. AGP is irrelevant here, and has never been relevant. But with the emergence of AIUDF, and the Hindu vote split between Cong and BJP, it is advantage AIUDF. In Silchar, the BJP is winning, and has a history of winning.

Apart from these, there is the Diphu (Autonomous district+North Cachar hills) seat. This is a tribal seat, with extreme variability. BJP has never been very relevant here. The fight was between Jayanta Rongpi (a party hopper, who was once in CPI(ML), ASDC (autonomous district state demand committee), and Congress. It is only here that the Congress is winning.
