General Elections 2014- Largest peaceful transition of power

Post by Peregrine »

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar resigns
PATNA: A day after his party JD(U)'s poor show in the Lok Sabha elections, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar resigned on Saturday. The JD (U) had managed to get just 2 seats out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Kumar has submitted his resignation to governor D Y Patil.
I hope Madre E Figlio take this as a Cue and follow suit!

Here is the latest :

Speculation that Rahul and Sonia could offer to resign at CWC meet
NEW DELHI: As Congress searches for answers for its worst-ever electoral performance, daggers are already out in the party ahead of the crucial Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting scheduled on Monday.

Senior party leaders speaking in private are severely critical of some key advisers of Rahul Gandhi, while some have chosen to go public finding fault with the ticket distribution.

Those who are in the firing line of a section of leaders include Jairam Ramesh, Mohan Gopal, Madhusudan Mistry, Mohan Prakash and Ajay Maken.

There was also media speculation that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi could offer to resign during the CWC meet, which has been called to take stock of the political situation in the aftermath of results.

A very nice artcile

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/vamsee-ju ... f=religion

This election was not really about choosing between secularism and religious extremism as it was made out to be. The choice was perhaps seen by people in India more accurately as one between Hinduphobia and an India for everyone.

And India has chosen.

In the long term interests of the country we need a congress party without the nehru/gandhi parivar. The current generation of parivar is not even hindu and is controlled by western christian influenced doon school gang. The original congress which fought for india independence was not a single family organization. The nehru/gandhi clan hijacked the congress. The congress needs equivalent of a vajpayee or modi to start from the ground up and dethrone the nehru/gandhi parivar.

Let us celebrate bjp/modi victory. cheers. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

The congress party will always be there because of its 100 plus years track record. Even Mahatma Gandhi could not prevent congress party. He wanted congress to be turned into a social organization and did not succeed. It is better to have a congress party minus gandhi/nehru parivar. Otherwise Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka vadera and her christian kids and their descendents will rule the country for generations to come. My 2 paise.

The funny thing is that for 67 years a Family got away with dissing the People as being a "Parivar". Who says the Mafia ain't smart? 8)

Talking of Mafia, I thought it was a given that the Ma/Beta/ Damaad would all take the first plane out. What's taking so long? Didn't Subramaniam Swamy promise some legal action?

President Obama calls Modi:

Underpinning the phone-call was the US desire to 'reset' ties with Modi, while recognizing that the stupendous majority the Indian electorate had lavished on him trumped any human rights campaign a small left-wing clique had mounted against him, with the prospect of holding US-India ties hostage in its wake.

Quote: Rajiv Malhotra:

Just a few thoughts on what the new govt must strategize:
1) USA:
Obama/Kerry are not to be trusted. They have lost big and now have tail between legs inviting Modi to visit USA. Modi must not seem too eager to accept. He must NOT visit USA before visiting other important countries first, as is will send a subtle message. Obama will bow low when he sees Modi operating from strength and developing friendship with many other countries.
USA badly needs India for military stability after troops withdraw from Afghan. Use this leverage wisely. A strategic card India holds.
US big business can be turned into allies to lobby for India in Washington.
The Jewish lobby is powerful and a great supporter of Modi. I had many meetings with them before leaving for India. They can be used to further Modi's policies.
2) Dismantle the anti-Hindu, anti-Modi nexus:
someone like Dr. Swamy should prosecute the old mafia. Done let them run away like Prithviraj let Ghouri escape after defeating him.
Compile blacklists of these anti-Hindu forces and squeeze funding, do not let them sneak into the new establishment.
Repeal all anti-Hindus laws and policies - there are many such things.
Empower the Hindu institutions, gurus, festivals, sanskrit, symbols, etc.
Stop the persecution of Hindu gurus especially the media slander.
3) Use the massive majority to amend the constitution strategically. This super majority is very rare. Examples:
Repeal Art 360
Make Uniform Civil Code the law
Create Presidential System to bring stability and stop fragmentation in the future.
End all divisive affirmative actions and replace with individual level help to the needy, not based on group identity of any kind. True meritocracy.

For someone who spent months in UP campaigning and interacting with people on ground. I will summarise in few points..

1. Younger rural/Semi urban Generation is not tied to Fake Gandhis

2. They feel out of place in a fast globalised world & funnily access to internet (mostly mobile) has evoked aspirations unbounded

3. Dole culture has no takers on a permanent basis, People want to work , make money and live a better life. Doles can only help survive.

4. 'Aatma Samman' is the currency in UP. 10 years back when i used to abuse Gandhis in election rallies, Old gen would come and temper me down calling them 'Brahmins'.. This time they were asked to shut up by their own younger Gen..

5. The rise of China has left a scar & people ask me stories on China a lot & why they have become powerful...? I mention, Hardwork , education

I campaigned for Hema Malini and promised her win with 1.5 lac votes min, She was happy with a win. She eventually won with 3.7 lac.

As for the role of fake Gandhis, New gen (my brother included) is clear that Con must get rid of them.. There will be a split in Congress party & Priyanka Vadra will be pushed as a Glue. She must be discredited and then only die-nasty will be buried.

The two/three most important portfolios in this government outside the 4 CCS will be,
1. Agriculture
2. Industries/labour reforms

The only sentence Modi said to the economic cell in Dec 2013 was - make Agriculture profitable. This has been the constant theme for all the talks and conversation.Eco cell had suggested 6 points, 4 were part of the manifesto..
1. Scrap Mandi act (AFMC act)
2. A different pricing model for determining MSP for Wheat & Rice, rest open market
3. Restructure/Reform/Scrap Food corporation of India. Its procurement policies drives staple food prices up by taking away 25-30 mlntonnes out of the market and then rots it to sell it to mallaya and company for peanuts.
4. Stop this obsession with Wheat/Rice
5. Subsidy for purchase of drip irrigation & link it to seed/Fertiliser purchase subsidy.
6. Reduce Fertiliser subsidies to half in 3 years.

Reform labour laws in Industries. Its much better to work & contribute...

4. Stop this obsession with Wheat/Rice
I think restructure is the word FCI. FCI for the lack of proper godowns leads to rotting of grains. One thing to note is that in far-away places of India where the population is not huge nor "very less" and where access remains closed for about 6 months, FCI is the only way to distribute food grains. No private player is ready to take the burden of the losses there. So restructuring yes - scrapping NO!

Secondly, what do you mean by obsession? Unless there is enough rice or wheat produced how will the country survive. Please look back at the 60's when there was severe food shortage. I heard that day on AIR a gent speaking that removing the name from the ration card was mandatory if you were residing in a hostel away from home. In fact, I remember that for myself until late 90s also. One could not draw 'food" from two Govt. sources. The US exported some PL160 or 180 rice during the food shortage. That rice was not even edible and was good for making starch for clothes. So let's be a little cautious about food security and self reliance regarding food. Ultimately everything fall apart if there is nothing on the thaali.

There seem to be poor choices cropping up: Sushma Swaraj for the Defence Ministry or the Ministry of External Affairs, Ram Vilas Paswan will also be inducted and could be given Health or Agriculture. Same old, same old. sigh.

May the results of LS Election 2014 be a lesson for the political parties with a penchant for pandering to communal Mohammadden vote under the pretext of being secular, that vote bank politics can only take one so far in the electoral battle:

Election results 2014: Reverse polarization is why Muslim votes did not count in UP and Bihar

Meanwhile expatriate Mohammadden Indians residing in that  exemplar of religious tolerance, secularism and democracy  , Saudi Arabia, hold a meeting they have termed as a “condolence meeting on the sad demise of secularism in India” :

Indian expats shocked at drubbing of secular parties in national polls
We have had these debates in this forum.

Modi & Amit Shah proved that Political parties can come to power without any overt (few Muslims voted for Kamal) support from Muslim vote bank. There are 600 million (of 800 m) Hindu votes they can rely on if they really care for Hindu interests.

The added advantage is that by serving Hindu interests, these political parties serve 85% of India.

Which is better? betterment if 15% India or 85% of India?

There can be two outcomes from this...

1/ the other parties will now clamor for Hindu votes, thus pushing for absolute Hindu Rashtra
2/ formation of a full-fledge Muslim party because the charade of secularism failed to fool Hindus.

I agree with Manny.Dr.SS should be given Law to prosecute the scamsters and Congress "Crore Committee",who took all the major decisions leading to the unprecedented theft of hundreds of billions of $$,resulting in the economic collapse, skyrocketing food and fuel prices, etc.

Rajnath for Home.Ravi Sanka Prasad though expertly qualified for Law,would make a fine Foreign Minister, where his legal acumen would be put to best use talks with foreign nations, plus he possesses one of the most articulate and outstanding minds in the BJP.for the Speaker's post

Sushma or LKA for the Speaker's post.Nitin G could be a good Infrastructure Min.,perhaps even Defence.Defence is very tricky. One needs a knowledgeable and strong figure..Gen.VKS as MOS Def. Production would give the DPSUs a prod up their nether end and be of good advice to the DM.

Ultimately, the 4 key ministries will be filled with whom Mr.Modi considers as his key advisers and support.

I will give a small example. We were rarely well off landowning family growing up but Wheat chapatis were made mostly on the days we had some guest coming over.. Rest days Bajra/Corn(Makai) Sattu (roasted Barley product) were cooked. Most of the poor villagers would come and borrow wheat Atta in case any guest arrived. Suddenly this whole MSP business started and Wheat became staple grain.. Too much of input cost/Care. Same is Rice.. Poor agri Technique/Over reliance on pesticides have made our yields 1/2 or even worse than Bangladesh/China.

We must encourage Millets/Coarse grains (Bajra/Makai/Jowar/Ragi), they are healthy too. This was my point and people accepted and agreed. If we want to make agriculture profitable,

1. we must increase yield/productivity.
2. Bring down the input cost by weaning away from high cost pesticide/Fertilisers by encouraging indigenous grains.

With such a clear mandate, a Modi government would be able to push through many reforms that a coalition government could never have even attempted. So, I am going to suggest a few paradigm shifts that will probably be laughed at.

Before I do so, let me make a few predictions:

1. The current economic system will collapse or suffer severe reverses inside the next 10 years.
2. Worsening climate, eroding coastlines, infrastructure failure, and other natural and man-made causes will lead to mass migration of populations and resulting conflicts.
3. It's very likely that governance will suffer in many parts of the country to an extent that precipitates total lawlessness.

I guess what I am saying (and I'm just repeating what much wiser people have said) is that our current civilizational paradigm will soon become unviable. The Modi government is uniquely placed to prepare India for a dark future.

My suggestions:

1. Dissociate India as much as possible from the global economy.
2. Reduce centralized government where possible. Encourage institutions of local governance.
3. Encourage adoption of village-centered technologies (for power generation, agriculture, health care, etc).
4. Discourage built-in product obsolescence, excessive packaging, and other aspects of modern life that hurt the environment.
5. Discourage excessive mobility and car ownership. Build up an excellent public transportation system.

I'm not sure if this post even belongs here. But since we are dealing with a situation that holds so many possibilities I had to say it.

Why we need paid-media-mukt bharat ----- difference in paid-media trends between (aug-2013 to dec-2013) period and (mar-2014 to may-2014),

1a. During apr-2011 to dec-2013, TimesNow used to give HUGE positive coverage to AK\AAP. Starting mar-2013 ----- So upper middle class, which is generally pro-BJP will move towards AAP

1b TimesNow started giving negative coverage to AAP and hugely positive coverage to BJP\NaMo ---- So upper middle class, which is generally pro-BJP will move away from AAP and back to BJP. In fact, TimesNow repeatedly shown RaGa and NaMo so that NaMo looks far better,

2a, During apr-2011 to dec-2013, HeadLinesToday, used to give HUGE positive coverage to AK\AAP --- So upper middle class, which is generally pro-BJP will move towards AAP

2b. Starting mar-2013 , HeadLinesToday started giving negative coverage to AAP and hugely positive coverage to BJP\NaMo ---- So upper middle class, which is generally pro-BJP will move away from AAP and back to BJP

3. AajTak is Hindi channel and is watched by lower middle class, and middle class. which has mix of BJP voters and Congress voters. Now they also watch IndiaTv. IndiaTv was highly anti-AAP and pro-NaMo. And AajTak was highly pro-AK after mar-2013. The combined efffect will be

3a. BJP voters will see stay with BJP

3b Congress voters will drift towards AAP

====

IOW, before between apr-2011 to dec-2013, TV-channels covered AK in a way that would do maximal damage to BJP. But after NaMo accepted MNC-owners all terms and conditions and in around 1-mar-2014, the TV-channels repositioned the coverage in a way that

a. AAP would get less coverage and AAP would do least damage to BJP and more to Congress,.

b. NaMo gets huge positive coverage in in all channels except AajTak.

====

So a consider portion of TsuNaMo was engineered by paid-media coverage, And sad part is --- these channels are owned and run NOT by Indian elitemen, but videshi elitemen.

Solution I propose --- "paid-media mukt bharat" i.e. India where paid-media has near minimal influence. . That can be acheved using OST means given at https://www.facebook.com/mehtarahulc/po ... 5321091922 .

Look how the narrative is staring in the west
Read it carefully. Why should West come to know how the Indian style works.

Modi Facing a Rocky Road
As He Seeks To Govern India From the Right

NEW DELHI – Elections are all about arithmetic and atmospherics, about calculus and celebration, but they are also about a division of the spoils. To put it another way: Winning parties that get to form governments also get new opportunities to get lucre, not merely political power.

ROCKY ROAD: Narendra Modi, after an election triumph from the center right, will have a honeymoon of fewer than 100 days.

The winning center-right Bharatiya Janata Party campaigned, among other things, on a platform that promised clean governance. Its prime minister-designate, Narendra Modi, has pledged that his will be a scrupulous administration, that financial corruption will not be tolerated, and governance will be transparent. In short, the Modi Administration will be an adret — that side of a mountain that always gets sunshine and is clearly visible on most days.

But an adret is also typically rocky and steep, a metaphor well applicable to the incoming administration’s monumental tasks. Rejuvenating a sluggish economy will have to be a priority; generating millions of jobs to cater to a growing cohort of the unemployed young will have to be another key objective. Reassuring India’s minorities – mainly Muslims and Christians – who might have apprehensions about the strong Hindu leanings of the BJP, would be still another priority. As the Germans say, und so weiter – and so on.

He certainly has the mandate to formulate and push for any economic policy he wishes. Mr. Modi might want to work more closely with Western countries such as America and the European Union, not to mention pro-West Japan, to invite more investment. The opportunities for outside investors are vast in a country where the middle class, already at 350 million, is increasing in numbers.

But it’s not just the welfare of the middle class that should concern Mr. Modi. The vast majority of Indians lives in its 565,000 villages. Economic development needs to be accelerated in rural regions, especially the remote ones in the Northeast.

Mr. Modi should be emboldened by his electorate mandate, and his post-poll speeches have clearly demonstrated that he has the self-confidence to offer India bold new leadership. But India being India, and Indians being Indians — argumentative and disputatious — there will be many political and social hurdles in the path of this low-caste former tea seller from Gujarat.

His background shouldn’t matter. What counts is his will power, his willingness to take on the odds, his energy in governing, and his ability to select experienced and expert associates. He will have a “honeymoon” of no more than 100 days. Then the cribbing will start, and the political undermining, and a fresh examination of his credentials and — in typical Indian style — the question of whether, even in this modern era, a low-caste man is be able to lead the world’s biggest democracy.

The 15th LS is dissolved, and the ECI will submit the list of MPs to the President. The Elephant slowly moves to get the job done. No hurry, no haste, just clam and measured steps laid out.

" Reassuring India’s minorities – mainly Muslims and Christians – "

First off Muslims and Christians are the Golaiths of the world. They are not minorities. India's minorities are Skihs, Jains, Parsies, Zorastrians, non converted Tribals., SC/STs, Jews ... Thats it These are the minorities who Modi needs to protect.

The most heart warming thing about this election was, the Anti Hindus could not split the Hindus by caste. Hindus of all caste came together for once. I now have high hopes for India and the Hindus!

Modi is a great uniter! Thats for sure!

Could the title of this td. please be changed to Gen. Elections-Modi victory Implications? Or some such suitable title
as we are now dealing with the global implications of Mr.Modi's "Tsu-namo".

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stormed into power on Friday riding on the crest of a Narendra Modi tsunami which gave a clear majority to a single party for the first time in India for 30 years and swept the ruling Congress into oblivion.

It has become the worst-ever electoral performance by the Grand Old Party. With Modi emerging as the undisputed strong man of India, this will have its own implications for the world.

Here is my take on the specific countries and regions that are crucial for India.

South Asia/India’s Neighborhood:
Modi’s emergence as the undisputed strongman in India and the sole decision-maker should make India’s smaller neighbors more cautious. Nepal and the Maldives have repeatedly cocked a snook at India during their tenure of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government headed by Manmohan Singh. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh bugged India with their own pinpricks. They could afford to do so as the UPA government was bogged down in coalition politics. This mindset should see a sea change.

Pakistan:
The country’s entire leadership, particularly military, is prone to India-bashing, something that would get a fitting verbal lashing from the Modi government if such statements were to emanate from Pakistan. However, the most interesting thing to see in India-Pakistan relations will be whether Pakistani firing from across the Line of Control (LoC), which has picked up momentum in the past couple of weeks, will continue this trend. Incidentally, for the first time in its history, the BJP has won three out of six Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir, the state which is at the core of the India-Pakistan dispute, and also the venue of the Kargil War in 1999. This in itself should be seen as a huge statement from the people of India to Pakistan.

China:
Modi will be more careful when dealing with China. However, it will have to be seen whether China makes a Depsang Valley-like 16-km-deep incursion in Ladakh (Jammu and Kashmir) under a Modi-led government.

Russia, Japan: These two countries will be the most important in the entire world from the perspective of the Modi government. The Modi administration will deepen ties with both: Russia to counterbalance the United States and Japan to counterbalance China. The Modi-led India should also see a huge fillip in trade and economic ties with these two countries.

United States: Modi will go slow with the US and wait for the Americans’ overtures before taking the first step. The US has pursued a policy of denying a visa to Modi over his alleged but unproven involvement in the Gujarat pogrom of 2002, and has foolishly stuck to this policy when the entire West has changed its stance toward Modi.
Domestic implications

The Indian election results have also come up with three trail-blazing new trends, each one auguring well for the nation of 1.2 billion people.

One: The coalition era that descended on India a quarter century ago is over, as the BJP has crossed the magic number of 272 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha on its own and does not need any allies – pre-poll or post-poll – to run the government. However, it is another question whether Modi, after he takes over as prime minister of India in a few days, will be able to rope in the BJP’s regional allies in his government. The flip side of this is that it does not mean that it is sunset time for regional parties because parties like AIADMK (Tamil Nadu), Trinamool Congress (West Bengal) and Biju Janata Dal (Orissa) have done very well without the support of any party, national or regional.

Two: For the first time, factors like caste, creed, religion and region that have been the bane of Indian politics have been thrown by the wayside.
The BJP has posted unprecedented electoral victories in states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar which are notorious for their caste and religion-based politics. Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest state in terms of population and number of MPs in the Lok Sabha, is a classic example. BJP nearly swept the state winning 71 out of 80 seats (as against just ten in the last election). The Samajwadi Party (SP) plummeted to just five seats from its previous tally of 23 seats, while the worst fate befell the Bahujan Samaj Party or BSP (previous tally: 20) which drew a blank despite having the third largest vote share. Both the SP and BSP have, for decades, thrived on parochial political considerations, such as caste and appeasement of Muslims.

Three: In Modi, India has seen for the first time the emergence of a single individual, born in the post-independence era, who is today the most powerful man in India despite humble origins.
He has single-handedly outstripped the record of the previously best leader the BJP ever produced – former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He is the only prime ministerial candidate in the history of India to have won by a margin of over 570,000 votes. Ironically, Modi, who contested his first Lok Sabha election from two constituencies, posted this feat from Vadodara in his native state of Gujarat, where the BJP won all 26 Lok Sabha seats, but he is likely to resign from this seat and retain the fiercely-contested Varanasi seat, which he won by a margin of just fifty thousand votes.

For the first time in decades, perhaps since the time of the Congress stalwart and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the world will be dealing with a strong leader who has a mind of his own. It will have to be seen whether Modi displays Shinzo Abe’s Abenomics or pursues hard economic decisions like Margaret Thatcher, or shows the gall to take tough strategic decisions like Vladimir Putin.

Well, the author and others are going to be trying to model him based on whatever they have understood or can understand.
When one says he has a mind of his own, it means it is going to be unique which could be a combination of all the above and more or something that is uniquely modi style.

Shri.Modi is a true karma yogi and will do what is necessary. It is for others to tweak their models to figure out how to describe this phenomena.
