It's clear that the missile is specifically tested to take out Paki terror camps - test range of 300 kms and loitering capability. Finally seeing user guidance and focus on current+ emerging threats. We are thinking and behaving like Israel now.

Expect Pakis los*rs to amp it up next time on the border - this will be a fitting response.

This is priceless, for ADE/DRDO to try this in its first test of the re-designed missile speaks volumes about their confidence. Something tells me, this missile's components HAVE ALL BEEN VALIDATED in some other name already.
Component validation occurs before any flight test as SOP.

Karan, not just individual components, almost the whole missile... May be masked as Lakshya drone tests?!!?! Loads of confidence... All the best DRDO... Make us proud... My prayers for a successful mission today.

Cruise missile tests don't need to be declared in advance like ballistic missile tests. It's possible that a few flights may have occurred already.

BrahMos missile to do near vertical dive in a year
http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/b ... 508523.ece
“We want to demonstrate a ‘near vertical dive and surround’ capability to take the enemy by surprise. While radars do not have 360 degree coverage in the mountains, we would like to show the missile taking a turn in the horizontal axis and decimating the target around the hill. We hope to do this in a year’s time,” Sudhir Mishra, chief executive officer and managing director of the company, told The Hindu.

The capability, he said, would allow the Army to inventively approach their operational plans.

On the air version of the universal missile now under development, Mr. Mishra said a dummy BrahMos would be test-dropped from a modified Su-30 MKI fighter early next year. By March, the actual missile would be test-fired from the aircraft.

Is't the turn in horizontal axis a s-maneuver ?
I thought Brahmos -III already had vertical dive capability. What am I missing ?

I have seen it flying high above clouds in last yr video from the su30. isnt this unusual for a CM? to my knowledge the other CMs of the world always try to fly lo-lo-lo to evade radar and SAMs.......videos of ships launching thawks always show them coming down to low level right after the vertical launch.

10 must-known facts about India`s frist Cruise Missile Nirbhay

Image

- See more at: http://www.patrika.com/news/10-must-kno ... ay/1038128

Both last years and is years test are taking place at 4k altitude.

Maybe its a precautionary measure. INS failure at super low altitude would have meant super quick crash maybe into populated areas.

Also telemetry might be an issue at low altitudes if it uses LOS link.

This is only second test and they may have targeted some parameters in this test. Tree Top flight may not be one of them. It may come for the next test. I am sure that will take place soon.

To add to the points mentioned before, higher flight path to reduce background clutter to help visual tracking by chase craft.

hopefully one chase plane is flying behind and around it in circles, logging its thermal & radar signature using OLS IRST & bars for later analysis while the close su30 records with camera.
