Andhra Government Imposes Ban on Sale, Lease of Temple Lands
http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/ ... 892151.ece
As a large number of lands belonging to temples were allotted to private companies for projects by various government departments earlier, the Andhra Pradesh Government has now passed an order prohibiting temple lands from being sold or given on long lease to companies and individuals.
“Henceforth, no department will be allowed to send proposals for transfer, sale or alienation of any temple land either for any routine public purpose or for the purpose of giving it to a private party,” the Government stated in a GO issued in this regard. In case a particular temple or charitable trust land has to be given for public purpose or to an individual, concerned district collectors or heads of departments (HoD) would have to send proposals to allot Government land to such temples.
Not only that, the department, which recommends the allotment of the temple or charitable trust lands for the purpose of setting up of industries, will have to provide alternative lands equivalent to the value of the land being acquired and which could be put to use by the temple to generate a regular stream of income.
Moreover, the alternative land being given should be close to the temple or the existing temple land which is proposed to be taken away so that the temple administration would be in a position to safe guard the land and generate revenue for maintenance of the temple. “Without making this arrangement, no temple land would be allowed to be taken by any department,” a senior endowments official said.
If at all temple lands are to be given on lease, the authorities can do so either in the short-term or on BOOT basis in the long-term after a careful assessment of the temples’ needs, the official added.

Re: Telugu States' News and Discussion
Present Endowment Minister of AP is from BJP. Similar thing is there in TN also. For all we dislike JJ, she did some good work in at least protecting temple properties.
Power cuts is the main problem in TN. Sri City which is in TN/AP border and near to Krishnapatnam and Chennai seaport is now emerging serious challenge to Chennai TN. It is in this place the new Foxcomm ( is it the correct name) the mobile maker is opening its facility. If some place near Ananthapur Dist in developed in the same way, it will bring industries etc form Bangalore where land cost etc are quite huge and lot of telugu people with money will be investing there.

Re: Telugu States' News and Discussion
This is good, Unionism had become rampant around Chennai and TN admin became too corrupt. Further, since 2009, a thanks to KCR shenanigans a lot of people from Southern Andhra have migrated to Chennai rather than Hyd. This has also spoilt the job market as there is a lot of supply of talent with little demand in the 2010-15 period.Kakkaji wrote:Andhra Pradesh vs Tamil Nadu: How the Chandrababu Naidu-led state is becoming the new investment magnet
I don't want to start a Tamil-Telugu flamewar here, but interesting claims and counter-claims in the article.
Sounds like Jayalalitha is slowing down due to age, sickness, and legal issues, while CBN is agressively pursuing industry to set up shop in his state.
If Southern Andhra develops with Industries, I feel both states will become the winner with people from both Sourtheern AP and Northern TN prospering.
On anther Note, Any idea why AP does not have good resorts(3 star, 5 star) in Pulicat Lake, beach areas of Nellore Dist, in the Forest of Seshachalam Hills. With the proximity of Chennai and Bengaluru, some resorts can make a killing with day trips as an alternaative to Mahabs.
Re: Telugu States' News and Discussion
Pulikot lake is protected area. Further very near to SHAR and serious security issues may be there. Beaches in Nellore are quite good like Mypadu, Ramathirdham ( I am not certain of this place) etc. What AP needs is more Sri City like efforts. Many many more. 6 ports are going to developed in private sector. Once both are done AP will be ok.

One of the 'smart cities' under the new programme is coming up in a place called Ponneri. It is very close to Sri City. The new city is also on the alignment of the new Chennai Bangalore Industrial corridor road project. The road takes off from the Ennore port and takes a route due west towards Bangalore.Yagnasri wrote:Pulikot lake is protected area. Further very near to SHAR and serious security issues may be there. As per news, each bag costs Rs. 500. So this is a small investment of Rs. 10 crores onlee to reach out to 2 lakh Muslim families.

Police too busy with VVIPs, fume pilgrims
CBN has acquired really a big bad Karma, and it cant be washed away by simple Temple visiting and Homas.
It means CBN and his family has blocked a complete ghat for nearly 2 hours, causing the buildup of huge pilgrims, causing stampede killing 30+ people.RAJAHMUNDRY: Police mismanagement and the presence of VVIPs which diverted the attention of cops seem to have been the reason for the Tuesday morning tragedy, with some eyewitnesses saying there were just around 30 cops at the venue after chief minister Chandrababu Naidu left the venue after puja.
Naidu, accompanied by his wife Bhuvaneswari, son Lokesh and a flock of cabinet ministers started arriving at the Pushkara Ghat around 6 am and were among the first to take the holy dip at the appointed auspicious time of 6.26 am.
This was, however, a departure from the earlier decided schedule by which Naidu was to formally inaugurate the 12-day holy event at Pushkara Ghat and then move on to the VIP Saraswati Ghat. But after formally launching the Pushkarams, Naidu decided to stay on at Pushkara Ghat, which was meant for the devotees.
This delayed the opening up of the ghat for the general public, over a lakh of whom had already converged at the gates (some from 3 am) and were impatiently waiting to get inside.
The opening of the gates got delayed even more as the security personnel had to ensure the smooth departure of the chief minister and his entourage of ministers from the ghat -- which finally happened at around 7.45 am.
Nearly 20 minutes after the exit of the VVIPs, the policemen opened the gates, which were earlier closed due to the CM's presence. However, they were not able to control the surging crowds, triggering the stampede.
Retired Hyderabad police commissioner V Appa Rao, who was at the ghat, said, "There was frenzy. Everybody wanted to take a dip at the same time. This led to the stampede." He added that if the crowds have been compartmentalised and queue lines formed as in Tirumala, the tragedy could have been averted.

is telengana still logically part of south india or naarth?
Re: Telugu States' News and Discussion
Isn't there an auspicious time for the holy dip?? This evil man and his family willfully deprived lakhs of people, some of whom had queued up a day or two in advance of their chance to complete the rituals. Now he blames the pilgrims?? What a pliable, pitiable and arse liking bureaucracy he must have in his brand new state. jantha janardhan maaro goli.kmkraoind wrote:Police too busy with VVIPs, fume pilgrims

Bhagyanagar and Not Hyderabad even in 1757
Bhagyanagar and Not Hyderabad even in 1757
A tweet by Sri Sunil Baboo shows that even in 1757 Maps, Bhagyanagar was not known as Hyderabad. It is therefore clear that the state was called Golkonda and Bhagnagar was a city there.
It is nothing but mischievous propaganda that stated that the city of Hyderabad was known by this name for 400 years. It also makes the case clear that the story of Bhagmati being converted to Hyder Begum and hence the city name was changed from Bhagnagar to Hyderabad is also nothing but propaganda.
It is clear that the city was named on the Goddess and it also makes the case for a bhavya Bhagyalakshmi temple very strong.
For decades, the Hindus are fighting a battle to save the Bhagyalakshmi temple in Hyderabad from onslaughts on numerous occasions. In 2011, we had written a detailed article on this topic – Historic Bhagyalakshmi Temple Under Siege

Just read tweets that Rajamundry is being renamed to Rajamahendravaram. It is a good news if that is true. We have to go back to their earlier glorious names.

An encyclopaedia of physics in Telugu
An encyclopaedia of physics in Telugu
Murali Narayana Dulla, an octogenarian, has embarked on a huge task of bring out an encyclopaedia of physics in the Telugu language to help students and scholars to break the language barrier to explore the depth of the subject.
The Benarus Hindu University’s alumni has already compiled and published all the topics that start with the first five alphabets by detailing them in a well accepted terms and words in Telugu. The amateur lexicographer, Mr. Narayana started the academic exercise in 2011. “I have decided not to compromise with the standard that should be useful for the advanced learners, research scholars and the teaching fraternity,” he said.
Mr. Narayana is the founder of Optical Engineering Laboratory (OEL), Machilipatnam.
Established in 1954, the OEL was closed in 2012, for want of technicians and committed learners to run it. “Given my age and health status, I am publishing the encyclopaedia in a book-series for each of the alphabet in which respective technical terms are given with a detailed scientific explanation,” added Mr. Narayana who manufactured crystal optic products for Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman in 1960s. The branches of physics which were covered till date in the project include general physics, electronics, optical electronics, robotics and microcontrollers.
“Apart from direct experience earned in my laboratory, developing academic research projects by various scholars of the renowned Indian universities has helped me gain authentic knowledge in physics and the courage to write the encyclopaedia,” Mr. Narayana, a professional Carnatic vocalist, told The Hindu.
Illustrious list of clients
Many India’s renowned institutes such as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Technology-Mumbai, Kharagpore used to procure products from the OEL, Machilipatnam, for their research work. “The galaxy of institutes used to prefer our products such as Nicol prism, Wollaston prism, quarter-half-wave plate and many products listed in the OEL’s catalogue,” said Mr. Narayana, who founded two Industrial Training Institutes here.

Twin Demons Of 2004 – Chandrababu Naidu’s Loss And Wrong Lessons
Prime Minister Modi would do well to learn lessons from my defeat” - Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to the Economist magazine, May 30, 2015. This story titled “Learning from the Pioneer” recalls how one of India’s first Davos-trotting, reformist, liberal Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu lost the 2004 elections in Andhra Pradesh, to the dismay of the then ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The article further elaborates that “those close to Modi are painfully aware of Naidu’s 2004 parable”. More than a decade earlier, in May 2004, then editor of Indian Express, Shekhar Gupta in his weekly column wrote “the malls of Hyderabad or the software parks of Cyberabad” did not resonate with the average rural voter, handing Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party, BJP’s alliance partner, an ignominious loss. Gupta, in his article, further expounds on Naidu’s loss with perils of “trickle-down economics”. Evidently, Naidu’s 2004 loss has left an indelible scar on the psyche of Indian politics. This notion that Naidu’s reforms in Andhra Pradesh between 1999 to 2004 made him a rockstar among the urban rich voters but a pariah among the rural poor, thus leading to his electoral defeat, is deeply entrenched in Indian political thought for more than a decade now. Pandering only to the urban elite was Naidu’s Achilles heel which won him urban/rich votes but abandoned rural/poor votes, is the prevailing wisdom. Only, this is folklore, devoid of any data based evidence.
The Census and the National Sample (NSSO) surveys are perhaps the only reliable data source that numerically and objectively define often bandied English terms of urban, rural, rich, poor, literate, illiterate, young, old etc. Incredulously, the Census districts and the Election Commission’s electoral constituencies are two completely distinct silos, making it very hard to map electoral data to it’s districts. Using Census data from 2001 and 2011 and corresponding NSSO data, we categorised the 23 districts of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh in order of “urbanness”, “richness” etc. We then painstakingly mapped all 294 electoral assembly constituencies of Andhra Pradesh to each of these districts. Analysis of 35 million votes cast in the 2004 elections in Andhra Pradesh across these 294 constituencies and 23 districts reveals that Naidu’s loss was uniform and spread evenly among urban/rural, rich/poor, young/old voters. In Hyderabad, the most urban and wealthiest district, Naidu’s TDP won 41% of the votes in seats that it contested versus 56% for the Congress. In Mahbubnagar, the most rural district as per Census definition, TDP won 45% of the votes versus the Congress at 48%. In Nizamabad, the poorest district as per NSSO definition, the TDP won 39% votes versus Congress’ 56%. In the five most urban districts, Naidu’s TDP won 43.8% of its contested votes vis-a-vis 43.5% in the five most rural districts. Similarly, in the five richest districts, TDP won 44% of its votes versus 42% in the five poorest districts. For the more mathematically inclined, the trendline of TDP’s vote share across districts of “urban” or “rich” is flat with no statistically significant relationship.
The scatter chart shows how voters in Andhra Pradesh across urban, rural, rich and poor districts voted in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections when they had a choice of a TDP candidate on their ballot. This analysis was also tested for various scenarios – districts that urbanised rapidly between the 2001 and 2011 Census periods, districts that saw an inordinate growth in wealth in this period, districts with higher youth population, districts with higher literacy levels and so on. In 2004, Andhra Pradesh had simultaneous elections to its State assembly and Lok Sabha. Voter choices across districts were tested for differences between the assembly and Lok Sabha elections as well. The results are unequivocal – Naidu was voted out across all segments with no one section of society favouring him disproportionately over the others.
Contrary to the decade long belief, it is unclear from this analysis that Naidu’s economic reforms abetted his downfall or that he was embraced by the urban rich and ostracised by the rural poor. The only plausible explanation for Naidu’s 2004 loss in the absence of any other hard evidence seems to be plain voter discontent and anti-incumbency uniformly across all sections.
Wedged between a noisy clamour for economic reforms and the sounds of silence of farmer suicides, governing leaders in India seem to struggle to achieve a seemingly impossible balance between votes for their party and greenback notes for the economy. That these two are mutually exclusive and “never the twain shall meet” seems to be accepted notion in the Indian political fraternity, predicated largely on the defeat of “CEO Chief Minister” Chandrababu Naidu in the 2004 election. As Prime Minister Modi battles his way through a reforms vs state elections environment, it is evident from this analysis that the choice is not binary and is often a mere alibi. Electoral outcomes in a plural, first-past-the-post democracy such as ours is often a complex manifestation of various inexplicable factors. In our quest for simplistic narratives, we run the risk of endangering the larger policy environment by misreading electoral verdicts. It is time to discard the demons of the 2004 electoral loss of the TDP and BJP. Perhaps the only lesson to learn for both Chief Minister Naidu and Prime Minister Modi is that there were no deeper lessons there.

Rony, I started a thread called Naidunomics where these very exact causes of the defeat were explored. It might be in the archives.
A deeper cause was the dictatorial leadership of CBN which made a lot of his own people (officials and community) sabotage his chances.
Then YSR and his padayatra rousing up the rural folks was ignored due to hubris.

Interesting talk though I could get only 50 to 60 % of it. And it is well known that a good percentage of people in TN have Telugu origins and speak it at home. His point about Kattabommu is widely known too.
I would be interested in the event he spoke about in Sankaralingapuram and what's the exact reason for the alleged discord. I guess it is due to party and symbol but couldn't make out fully. Maybe second or third listening should help. Also am surprised by his claims that people are worried about disclosing their Telugu origins fearing retribution. Don't remember a single case.

^ A push on universal literacy is sorely needed in AP.
AP has been one of the worst performing states on this front over the last few decades, the literacy rate only improved by 7% (from 60% to 67%) in the decade between 2001-2011.
100% by 2019 might be an unrealistic target at this point. I will settle for a well designed plan and good execution towards a goal of 85% literacy rate by 2019.
